Hey!
I don't know a whole lot about how ROMs are made, but would love to learn... but for now, I'm after something a lot more basic, I think.
I've got my HD2 exactly where I want it... all the setting are perfect, everything is configured just as I'd like it to be. So, I'm wondering if there's a method for saving an image of my phone as it is, as a ROM. If not, fine. If so, I'd really appreciate any help, even pointing me to a thread if one exists that has already answered this.
Thanks, all!

Ok so after i have seen many people asking about doing things like porting and how to add power menu options and lockscreens( includes me ), i wanted to ask you guys if you can start sharing things like adding power menu options and adding lockscreens here..how to edit settings.apk to show lockscreens option..how to edit mod version when is written in the apk itself.. things like that..im not asking for something wrong right ????
So basicly this is like a guide just like the one jellette posted sometime before here in general, lets make an all in one guide so people dont be all over the place asking posts twice ...well i think i will benefit about this too since i have entered the dev world and its hard lol...no sleepeng well, not eating well, thats me i dont know about you...so what you guys think.. ?
Is this wrong ??

The problem, Bosina, is that people are always asking for guides that already exist here on the site. A search of xda will show you how to add am / pm toggle, lockscreens, power options, porting apps etc..

Let me also add that sending a dev a request and only giving two options: tell me how or write a guide is not the way to request help. There is a 3rd and 4th option: walk me through it when you get the time (like I have done a lot) or don't help if you don't have the free time right now.
A dev works hard to pump out the best roms. They do not always have the time to walk away from their own project to fix someone elses.
I recently walked a "dev" through a port 100% from start to finish. That earned me a little line of thanks at the bottom of his OP and earned him a big arse line at the top of his OP stating that HE worked real hard to get the port bug free.... This ruins it for others, like yourself, when you ask for help.
Can I write you a guide and send you some files please?

who did this, that whore.
I usually have no trouble teaching someone or sharing any knowledge I (might) have, but when people message me and want things but have no idea how or why something is, it's annoying.
I know that's a little vague, so let me make it clearer: if you are going to PM someone and ask them how to do something you damn well better make sure of the following
1) you have Google searched the issue for at least 9999 hours
---- (tip: try using "site:xda-developers.com" in google)
2) you have tried doing this yourself
3) you at least have some idea of how whatever you're asking about works
4) you aren't asking said person TO do it, but rather HOW
And Bosina (and everyone else), I know guides are useful and all... but anyone can follow a guide. You need to learn HOW this stuff works

We are actually pretty lucky here in the Vibrant section, have you ever looked for a how to or source files in one of the other sections. The amount of sharing that goes on here is far greater than anywhere else on xda.

I was being sarcastic bosina. I would love to learn this stuff but theres no way I would come out and start asking people how to do it. Id learn 100% of everything from just research and reading myself. Take in part, my JIGs, I figured out how to make them through research and development and never asked anyone how to do it, and I only got ideas from KidDynamite on the fancy lanyards I use because I wanted a nice adjustable lanyard system, but had no clue what to use, and he being ex military suggested I use 550 Paracord and a cord lock... Techie type people like high quality full of fancy specs stuff like military grade 550 cord.

Ive noticed that same thing jellete, only the i9000 forum imo seems to match our prowess in that dept. For the US tho the Vibrant forums is #1 for sure.

Can anyone help me figure out how to change keyboard background?
I have looked through everything and must be missing it somehow...
Well we found the files, edited one to test but now when we reflashed the swype.apk, no virtual keyboard is installed. ADB pushed it, reflashed it, moved it to system/app... no keyboard shows up after only changing one image...
I am confused...
I basically need to figure out how to resign the apk after customizing and I am pretty noob right now..
You'll be better off asking this in the theming subforum.
I figured it out finally. It was me being dumb is all...

Let me get it completely figured out first but then of course!!
To change it, you have to edit swype.apk and I have had to reflash 3 times now because I keep making little errors. It is kind of a painful process!
Well I finally got most of the editing done... I kept it pretty simple as far as the letters and I didn't really try hard with the placements on things because to be honest I wanted to throw the phone after awhile !
But here is a sample of what I did, if there is actually a demand for people wanting to do this then I will write a "how to" but I have to warn you it is painful and you will need experience with photo editing...
I changed the flame color in the background to be different for each mode.
And yes, Swype still works!
Consider this your first demand for a how-to.
Ha.. I will go ahead and get started on it then and post under themes/apps for everyone! I am not taking credit for doing it but I will write the how to for somebody to try.
Maddog and Illinois08 were the biggest help during the process so I will include them in the walk through.

I have placed the how to under themes section.
Let me know if you have any questions...
Does anyone know where to find a decent guide explaining each of the options in the Dev Tools app? I know most of them but still lost on a couple and can't find a guide at all really, thinking about making one BC some of it can screw with people if they don't know what they're doing.

What's the "Dev Tools app"?
sorry gnarly, should've specified, the application for Android, that is on many of the ROMs on the device. From what I can tell, its main purpose for debugging and testing.
com.android.development .. Development.apk and sorry im not tryin to be repetitive just puttin it all out there.

Oh, duh! I should have got that. Sorry, I've actually never really looked at it. Fail on my part.
I had a developer environment set up on my Linux partition and it had everything (not that anything actually worked but I was playing around with things). It recently got corrupted and I can't find a complete guide that give me straight-forward directions on how to set up the JDK, SDK, AVD, Eclipse, and all the repo's.
If anyone knows of any guides I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
I'm not totally familiar, but I believe lithid-CMs thread titled "wanna learn to dev correctly" details how to set up the environment. It's buried somewhere in the development section. Good luck.

Thanks, totally forgot about that one.
If anyone has any other, please feel free to throw them out there.
Give this one a look if you haven't already. I used it on Linux partition and it was super easy and did everything imaginable. It's Tommy Tomato too, so the support is second to none
