Info in my sig. I was on a previous version of CM (4.2.12.2, iirc) and had no problems. It did run sluggish, but was guessing it was due to my class 2 sd card and using swap/ext/fat32 on it.
I repartitioned my card to all fat32 and loaded 4.2.13 yesterday. It runs much faster, much more responsive than before.
Now, when on a call, it sounds like it's breaking up, like I have bad signal every once in a while. When it would do it, I checked and had 3G and 3-4 bars. I was at my house, where I've never had problems before. This happened both with just the my3g and on a BT headset. Initially I thought it was where I was in the house, but it happened no matter where I went.
I searched and found a thread titled "Background noise" talking about improved call quality. I can't post a link because I'm a no0b, but here's the info, with attached filename Audio-mic-gain-fix.zip:

You can try this. It has improved my call quality a lot. Follow these instructions using terminal app.
*unzip the files using astro or file manager of your choice*
Open terminal emulator
Type - su (enter)
Type - mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock0 /system
Type - mkdir /sdcard/mic
Type - cp /system/etc/* /sdcard/mic
Type - cp /sdcard/download/*.csv /system/etc/ (or whatever directory you unzipped to)
Type - reboot

Are you rooted with a modified ROM? If so, many people have complained about poor call quality, distortion, etc. This file has fixed this problem in many cases. The *'s stand for 'files'. If you call out an * in a command it pulls all files in that directory. However, another example would be *.csv, which would only pull .csv files, or whatever file extension you put after the *. Sorry, hopefully that makes sense.

Since the file is named audio mic gain fix, it seems this is more for the mic gain, not the ear speaker.
Am I having the problem this is intended to fix?
Thx!
If you're having a problem with your ear piece (speaker), I don't think the mic-gain file will help with your situation. The mic-gain file was intended to improve call quality via the microphone. Some users were claiming that the people they were calling said they could hardly hear them or that there was distortion and background noise.
I don't believe there have been any reported issues with the ear piece using any Cyanogen ROMS, but I could be wrong. Sounds more like a hardware issue. One way to test is to downgrade to a previous ROM and see if you still have the issue. If so, more than likely, its a hardware problem.
Good luck!
That's kinda what I figured. I'll continue using it to see if I still have probs. If so, I'll try a different ROM.
thx for the infoz.
This might not help but I had the same problem when updating from 4.2.5 to 4.2.13. It was fine on 4.2.5 and had a little background noise frequently. But once I upgraded to 4.2.13 calls were horrible all the time, the person could barely hear me. I decided to do a warranty exchange and unrooted it. Calls were fine once I was on stock 1.6, still had some background noise but not on all calls.
Got my replacement the next day, rooted straight to 4.2.13 and had no problems cept for the background noises every now and then.
I have a MyTouch3G as well.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but are you saying that you exchanged your phone to fix your problem? I highly doubt that the Cyanogen ROM you had installed caused a hardware problem. Could have possibly caused a glitch if you didn't install it correctly. However, you should have just wiped everything and tried again. Or, if you were really feeling up to it, started from scratch by unrooting in fastboot with the SAPPIMG.nbh, then rooting again with the recovery image and ROM of your choice.
fwiw, I did a wipe, reformated the sdcard, and a fresh install of CM 4.2.13.
I have a feeling it was just poor reception at the time. I don't talk on the phone that often, but used it today for about 5 mins and it seemed fine. I was riding in a car and background noise was loud (my buddies arguing over steroids & McGwire, lol), but the guy on the other end had no probs hearing me.
Glad to hear you got it fixed.
Sorry, I guess that was out of context. That was @Weirdkid, stating that I didn't do an upgrade like he did. I haven't touched it since yesterday, I wanted to let roll to see how it plays out.

Not quite, I was already getting static every now and then even before root(I thought I could live with it). It was just a little glitch I guess and that pushed me to get an exchange. After the unroot and back to Donut, the glitch with all calls getting low quality was gone but still getting minor static noise every now and then(just like before). Sorry for the confusion.
Okay, so I continued to have poor call quality and 3 calls were dropped. I went back, did a full wipe, no swap/ext, and reloaded CM4.2.13 and had the exact same problems.
I decided to load Dwang's rom and no longer have the problem of dropped calls and/or poor call quality.

Yeah, I stopped using Cyan's ROM when the 4.2.10 release came out. Great ROM, just seemed to have increasing issues after 4.2.9. You should try the Super D rom. Fastest and most stable ROM I've run, hands down.

Thanks for the the recommendation, I was looking at that one, but haven't changed my SPL. No reason, just haven't ventured down that road yet.
I've been looking at the 10mb ram hack, searching for pros/cons, but just see people using it and no full explanation of it.
Is there any real benefit to it, and what does it actually do?

Not a problem. Also, if you have a mt3g, you don't need to upgrade your SPL to run the Super D rom. Aside from that, just make sure you have the correct radio, then do a full wipe and flash the ROM.
In regards to the 10mb ram hack, it definitely increases system speed and performance. So that would be your 'pro'. However, the ram hack is created by pulling 10mb of ram that would normally be used for graphical processes, and instead applies it to your operating system. The con would be a decrease in 3d game performance. So, if you play a lot of 3d games, then I wouldn't recommend the 10mb ram hack. If you don't, then use it. Currently, the only Super D rom you can download that doesn't have the ram hack is the 1.6.6 beta, which as of right now is fairly stable. However, If you are considering switching to this rom, just wait a couple days, the developer has announced that he is releasing the 1.7 stable version this week. I'm assuming he will have two separate downloads. One with the ram hack, and one without.
Btw, I didn't see your phone setup before my last post. You DO have the correct radio to run the Super D rom. So, all you have to do is a full wipe and flash the rom.
Nice! I forgot I was reading the page in the Dream/G1 section...I got this one how I like it, so I'll roll with it a few days and keep an eye out for Super D 1.7.
I noticed one bug. After I'm finished listen FM radio when i close it off, all sound on the phone suddenly becomes very low. I need then to go to Music player options and enable Dolby Mobile then the sound comes back to normal and then I can deactivate Dolby Mobile. It happens not every time but most of the times.
This happens only after listening to FM Radio not Music Player.
Same problem here :-(
yeah this bug has been mentioned in another thread around here. We need to inform HTC about this. I've already sent them an email. Everybody else should so they will realize this issue is quite widespread.
Have just send mail to HTC as well.
Got similar problem but a bit of twist. I've got a call while listening to the FM Radio. After the call, the phone won't switch back to FM or to be more specific, the FM app seems to be running but there was no sound.
On the side note, can any confirm the radio is really stereo? I am a bit skeptical but my ears ain't the best. It is certainly Hi-fi. Having been bite by SGS with their first FM radio version being Mono, I am just curious. I must also say that the Radio quality is not as good as SGS's.
(WOW: HTC CS called me back admitting the bugs but of course has no solid date for a fix ....it really doesn't bother me much as the phone is really great when compare to SGS. Besides, I used a BT with radio anyway. They have also noted my question about Gingerbread upgrade which they gave me an expected official answer...i.e. "As the OS was just released yesterday, we are getting more information. We shall let you know soonest possible once the situation clears up."...well, less than 8 hours of response time, what do you expected.)
I told them about this when I noticed it a couple of weeks after the phone came out. They fobbed me off with the 'do a hard reset' response.

at least they answered you HTC is too busy updating its old phones to 2.2 right now
and i'm sure they are delaying any coming update for the DHD to include gingerbread
one thing worries me though about gingerbread, i hope it doesn't come with its own set of bugs the Desire froyo update broke the SD card read speed for example, thank god we have custom kernels
Wrote to HTC yesterday in evening today got email:
"Dear XXXXXXX,
We are aware of this and are currently investigating the issue, Hopefully we will be able to find a root cause and resolve it as soon as possible. Keep an eye on our webpage for update announcements."
First and foremost to everybody over at ACS thank you for bringing Gingerbread to my Epic. For the most part I have a fairly bug free, fully functioning installation.
I did want to mention a couple of things:
- I am getting an interruption in charging (I know this was a known bug)
- I have fully functioning GPS (I got a lock in GPS Status right before I did the install, left GPS on, shut the phone down and did the install, when my phone booted up after the install I turned on GPS and got a lock right away!)
- My voicemail won't verify! (I can still receive voicemail, I just don't get the voicemail-to-text to work) Plus, my voicemail icon in the notification bar NEVER goes away! (Hoping there might be a fix for that coming soon)
- ED12 does something absolutely no ROM I have had does... I listen to Pandora in my car with an auxilary cable plugged into the headphone jack. I also have my bluetooth headset paired and connected. In the past, whenever I received a phone call or wanted to make a phone call I had to unplug the auxilary cable in order for the phone to route call audio to my headset... NOT THE CASE ANYMORE!!! In a very awesome twist all call audio automatically routes to the bluetooth! Also, amazing bluetooth compatability with Google voice, Voice Search, etc.
So, all in all, Gingerbread has made me totally happy! I am sorry that I put this in the General forum apparently I am too new to post on Development pages so I understand if this gets moved.
Curious, when do you think we will start seeing ROMs and Bug Fixes for ED12?
Also, I saw that Jez2cool's thread with the tar version, however the link to the file was dead (just came up with a Dropbox error page), will there be a flashable version for me to Odin coming soon? Will that version fix some of the issues I am seeing on the version I have installed through CWM?
Once again to the whole team at ACS thank you!
I will be looking forward to further development!

ED12 - ACS-Leaky Gingerbread
There wont be any bug fixes for ed12. It will just be another rom that samsung will make. Its just a test build. Hopefully we can get another leak when another version comes out. Also the tar and flashable version thru recovery is the same thing.

It's actually so unbelievable that I think Samsung just hasn't overwritten that part of the code yet in attaching their skin to GB...
We probably won't be seeing a TAR to Odin since that file is off-limits until Sprint releases it to the public.

The lock screen date is a universal problem, not just ED12.
its a alot of bugs they dont say about this rom
I'm running gingerbread ED12 stock ROM right now for the first time. My first impressions are "Amazing." This ROM seems like it is the direct port from the Nexus S with TouchWiz on top of it. Everything seems to be working...I know people said they are having a lot of problems, but I haven't seen any too major ones. My battery meter is fine, GPS is working, and the phone isnt crashing.
WiMax doesn't work, which I assumed. And the lockscreen has the date cutoff like every other ROM in May. That's a problem with Samsung's TouchWiz that they need to fix.
EDIT: And again the "Time Without Signal" issue is still here. I wish they would fix that
gingerbread was way cool, but the thing main that stopped me from running it full time was the fact that visual voicemail wasn't working. Couldn't download vm's and wanted me to call the vm service like I was on a dumb phone. Eff that
There were some other minor bugs that I was willing to put up with, like not waking the phone when the keyboard is opened and only having the CRT power off animation but not [/i]on[/i]
Then there are the things that samsung/sprint seem entirely unwilling to fix like the date on lockscreen and whatever it is that causes google sky maps to always point at the southern hemisphere.
still, I was willing to forgive all that for HALF of the badass CRT animation.. it was THAT cool imo, but i just couldn't deal with calling to get voicemails LOL
Just use Google voice dude its better

That's a problem with the Sprint data being uploaded. It seems the 3G uploading is borked as well. You can test it with "SpeedTest.net" app
Since the update to GB... my voice-to-text has not been working properly in the car. I first thought it might be background noise like the A/C or something but it appears to only happen when the car is moving.
Isn't this the whole point of voice-to-text? To keep you safe while driving so it doesn't require typing. Am I the only one with this problem? Is there any kind of workaround? I depend heavily on this feature. This is a big negative for me.
Same issue here. Voice to text has been broken for me since the first GB update on a stock unrooted EVO.
busted here too.
sucks.
Yes this happens to me too.
Just quit using your phone in the car so i can quit flipping you people off!
Have y'all tried updating voice search from the market? I noticed there was a recent update for it mentioning bug fixes.
Tried updating everything. Full factory restore on Unrooted GB 2.3.3 both the first release and with the maintenance fix. Changed Voice Input and Output settings. Changed the Google account dashboard and personalization. Everything and even rolling back to 2.2 which doesn't work because of the new Hboot.
It is completely broken. You get going 20-25mph+ and the mic does not respond.
Hope that it is address in a future release update (not likely), but will have to root and roll back.
Can any one that is rooted and on the stock 2.3 or different rom confirm if voice search is working for them?

Yeah... I updated Voice Search and I will find out later if it works when I get in my car.
Well, I did the Voice Search update and still can't do voice to text in the car while it's moving. This is ridiculous! I love using HeyTell especially when driving and now it has become useless.
A guy at work asked me today if i knew anything about this problem. He has had this problem since the GB update and his EVO is stock and not rooted. I told him I would look into it. Looks like I found the answer.

I did; however, find out that the voice search does work in the texting mode once you've hit the car in front of you wondering why it wasn't working during the driving process. Once stopped, it is amazing!
EDIT: OK..couldn't resist, but reminds me of the little "Don't use this while your driving" disclaimer in the gps units turning them on.
I've had issues with it when not moving.
I'm not sure where this connection to driving comes into play?

The whole advantage of voice-to-text is so you don't text while driving. My phone sits in a dock in the car. If someone texts me, I can verbally respond without taking my hands off the wheel. You know... kinda like talking on the phone hands-free. That's why voice-to-text is so valuable to me.
Earlier tonight I discovered the problem is worse. I was outside taking a walk and decided to use voice-to-text and nothing. Would not recognize. But once I stopped walking and used it... it was fine. So it's not just limited to driving. They need to fix this problem!
I did some looking around on Google and this issue has been reported on multiple different sites. However, it seems that it's more related to background noise rather than being in a moving vehicle. If there is any amount of background noise, voice to text seems to not work properly. It seems that it works fine if you are in a completely silent environment.

Yeah... I read the same thing but my tests did not ring true. When I was stopped at a light, I put the AC on at full blast and the voice-to-text worked flawlessly. But as soon as I moved and even with the AC off... nothing. For me, there didn't seem to be any connection with background noise... only movement.
My only other suggestion is to try an app called Vlingo for the mean time. The In Car mode is amazing. Just say "hey vlingo" and it starts listening to commands. It really is completely hands free. You never have to touch your phone to send texts and it even reads your message back to you to confirm before sending. I've never had problems with it although the in car mode is still in beta. Good luck!
I just spoke this entire post while driving 45 miles an hour down the road using Google voice search.
I had same issue on stock Rom. I believe if u look at main settings, voice input and output, text to speach settings, and in there it should say something about downloading something. If it needs updating u can press it and market will open with what u need

So I tried going through the text-to-speech settings but no luck. The issue doesn't seem to be with text-to-speech but with voice-to-text. It's like the microphone stops picking up audio when in motion.
Nevertheless... got this today from HTC...

The netflix app version 1.6.0 build 443 seems like it's having scaling issues. It'll play fine for a bit but then the lower third of the screen bugs out. I've searched the forums, but haven't found much information about it. Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, have you got a line on what might be going on?
Hello,
I have experiencing the same issue. I called netfilx and they basically washed their hands and they reffered me to ACER (I have an Acer Iconia A500 tablet).
Acer said that this is the first time they heard about this issue and they are going to investigate further but since there are not many eports of it I am not sure what's goin to happen.
My solution at this point was to remove v1.6.0 and reinstall theolder version 1.5.2
Netflix is now working fine.
I found the file n152.apk at filesonic.com
Thanks for the heads up. I'll give 1.5.2 a try. I've already tried the patched version (from before netflix was available on the market) but I was prompted to update the app and prevented from signing in.
Incidentally, though I haven't watched much since doing it, I changed the video quality in my netflix account settings to "better" and haven't had the screen issue yet (I also wiped the app data afterward).
I had already wiped many times before trying to fix the issue, and the video quality change was to limit data use.
I've noticed this as well. I've seen reports of this happening on Transformers, Xooms and the Sony Tablet S in the Market app reviews. This is probably an issue with Honeycomb tablets in general. One thing I've noticed is that if I flip the rotation lock switch or adjust the volume, the video returns to normal (just a tip so you don't have to restart the video or anything).
I have that issue too...
Yup. Me too.
It will be going along fine, a scene will change and either:
1) seems like I only see 3/4 of the picture with the rest off screen
2) bottom third de rezzes / turns into scan lines and mush
..and a pause will reset it back to normal.
I too will try a previous version...We'll see what happens!
I've been having this issue since they released the update to 1.6.0 as well.
This morning I put in a call to Netflix to address this issue and another on WP7, the lady on the phone said she would report everything to R&D, and sounded rather happy that someone was reporting issues.
Hopefully all it takes is a few keystrokes and we will all have yet another update!

That's great, wokker. I did the same a few days back; maybe we'll get a fix soon. The issue happened on my brother's stock a500 as well as on my rooted and OC'd a500, so it does seem to be something that could be addressed on their end. I haven't reverted yet (no time since school is back in), but has anyone else had luck with v1.5.2?
possible fix that worked for me.
I had the same issue, thought it might be when the screen tries to time out so I set the Screen Time out to never and it seems to have stopped the problem.
