My phone rebooted yesterday and I found that all my settings were reset and the home and search buttons do not work. I tried restarting, formatting and restoring, reflashing back to cm6 and then again back to cm7. No success with any of those. Any suggestions?
Edit:
Problem resolved: flashed to liberated aria than back to cm7

I tried to start my phone again the same thing happen. I did Hboot and tried recovery from there but it didnt work. I tried Factory Reset but it failed. I go to clockwork recovery mode if i do backup and restore or factory reset nothing happens. Does it mean my phone is gone? Is there anything i can do to fix it? Please anybody help

I installed a rom for the first time tonight (Lightspeed), but after installing my home button stopped working. When I press on it, light changes and tablet vibrates, but nothing happens.
Even after reverting back to my stock backup it still does not work. Any ideas?
Same thing happened to me. So I ordered a new one from ebay and tried to replace mine. I cracked the whole screen instead. Apparently the home button was part of the ui and not an actual hardware key.
Problem solved
Reverting back to original Acer recovery image and doing a factory reset from settings menu solved the issue.
I have a rooted, but otherwise stock nook that I was having trouble installing apps from the amazon appstore on. I was trying to find some settings to fix this when all of a sudden it said something about an "authorization error" and reset. When it came back up, it was resetting data and I had to go through all the setup again. When I get to the point where I set up my account, I get the message "Sorry, we're having touble setting up your NOOK. Please shutdown sthe device and try again". Every time I reset it goes back to the same thing. Can I do something to fix this, or do I need to go throught the "restore to stock" and start over?
This happened to me and is the reason that i was driven to install CM7 to emmc.
It was a while ago, but i think i was able to fix this using the debug bridge. I would have to say that restoring to stock is probably your best option, especially if you don't have a recovery rom.
Ok, it's been a while since I've had a chance to look at this (and since the pad works with my CM7 boot card it's not been a priority). I have this to restore to stock: http://nookcolorrooting.com/RestoretoStock.aspx, but when I get to the 2nd step booting with the n key held in doesn't seem to do anything....it just boots up as normal. Is there some trick in how long to hold the button down?
Are you continuing to hold power + n while it's booting?
I've tried it several different ways, including holding the n button down until it has completely booted up.
I did find some instructions for using the clockwork mod recovery to flash the original files and am in the process of working through that.
Hi All,
I want to share my experience:
I installed several version of CM (7, 7.2, 9) but none where my complete liking
so i said "I will install the 2.2.1 version again with RSDLigth"
everything went ok, but when the phone rebooted as part of the process, it was only rebooting in the blank screen and never entering the OS.
Even the RSD Ligth never finished the installation :s
After several hours it occurred to me that if i wipe the cache and restore to factory settings might help
So i took the batter off, press power button several times to eliminate any energy in the phone
place the battery and pres FIRST volume button down and then power button.
Kept pressing till the Android with a "!" appeared in the screen and then pres volume up and down at the same time and came up the recovery of the phone
cleared the cache and restore to factory settings.
rebooted the phone Connected to the pc, and the process finally ended and the phone worked.
Hope this can help some one else that might be having the same issue as i did.
Here is the link to the forum where you can have the installations steps to reinstall using the RSD:

I was uninstalling some apps to get ready to back up and flash my phone because my microphone volume was stuck at minimum and no one could hear me. After rebooting my back and multitask (menu) button won't light up or respond. This has happened to me before occasionally. I could fix it by powering the screen off and back on. I believe I read somewhere it had something to do with xposed.
I tried flashing using MOP and my buttons didn't come back so I loaded a TWRP, wiped all partitions, rebooted in download mode and flashed with regular ODIN. Still can't get the buttons to function. Home button works just fine, though.
I tried finding a solution to this but I can't seem to find one. I had the same issue intermittently on my Galaxy S4 but I fixed it by wiping the partitions and reflashing. G900R4 USC variant.
So I went into stock recovery and did a factory reset. It was already as wiped as it could possibly get afaik but I thought I'd try just to see. My buttons lit up in stock recovery so I knew they were getting power. I did a factory reset and low and behold upon reboot my buttons came back.
Did I fix it or is there a circuit starting to fail on my phone and it was just luck? I'm curious.
