Uninstalled Google Maps 5 after going on a road trip to SF and putting the app through heavy use. On more than one occasion it displayed black graphics when switching back and forth between Spotify, Messaging, and Navigation, meaning it was impossible to navigate unless switching to turn-by-turn text navi.
After several reboots and lots of bad timing I just uninstalled it and am now running 4.X fine and stable.
Anyone else experienced this? It will ONLY show if you are a heavy maps user who multi-task, otherwise you probably haven't ran into it (yet).

I've been telling myself for weeks that I'm not going to worry about it.
In Google Maps when I use the compass mode on Street View it responds... but very strangely. It's difficult to explain but I have to spin in circles slowly just to almost all the way around 360 degrees just to do a 180 on Maps. Obviously the trackball works on it just fine so I'm not really worried about it and it's not worth wiping and starting from scratch. So like I said... I didn't worry about it.
Since then I've tried Haykuro 5.0.1G and everything worked great. Too great in fact. The Google Maps Compass mode works perfectly. I flash back to RC33 and I have the same problems so it doesn't appear to be a hardware issue.
I'm not near metal, I've recalibrated the compass by the "Figure 8" method, all other apps (Brain Genious, Bubble, Planetarium, Sky Map) seem to work alright.
I have all caches to SD, apps to SD, auto-rotate disabled, transitions and such disabled.
And the weird thing is that I was able to go straight from RC33 to 5.0.1G without loosing any apps. I just needed to use Mybackup to restore my data (texts, phone log, etc) so I doubt that it's a problem with an existing app.
I'm thinking it might be my class 4 card with my Maps cache to SD. Maybe I'll try moving it back to see if the problem clears up. Any input anyone?
I've googled this problem an no one else seems to have it. I'm presently running the stock T-Mobile HD2 ROM (2.10.531.1) and have downloaded the Bing application directly from the Windows Marketplace. When I'm using Bing for navigation it sometimes crashes (rarely) but mostly just shuts down (always). I immediately go in to task manager and see that Bing has shut off completely for no apparent reason. I don't really want to flash a new ROM right now because I misplaced my unlock code and am still stuck with at&t. I suspect it may be a problem with the ROM, but really have no idea what's causing the problem. No other programs display this behavior and I have no problems whatsoever with the phone or OS. Any insight into this problem anyone? Thanks in advance.
I'm on a stock 2.13 ROM and Bing does crash/close on me occasionally. It's inconvenient when it does, because you have to start it up, choose your last destination, etc.
Try uninstalling the app and then reinstalling it again.
@p_synthesis
Thanks for the response. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application a few times through a Bing cab that was floating at XDA and have also done the same with the Bing app directly from the marketplace and I get the same problems. I have also installed on the storage card and on the internal memory, and still the same problem. Well at least I know I'm not the only one with the problem. This is a fairly major problem as it causes a major inconvenience when using the navigation.
Yeah, mine is doing the same thing, HD2 is stock except for cookies. Although, strangely I was using the navigation today for couple of hours and it didn't crash once. Sometimes seems to get hung up when losing signal momentarily at the same time it needs to do a reroute, although in that instance the app locks up but doesn't disappear. I've only had bing navigation for a few days but as long as doesn't crash too often, and Microsoft puts a little more time into this app to polish it up a little it will be something handy to have. Things they can add to Bing I would like would be to display the current speed with the posted speed limit, options on font sizes, and API to allow other meta data to be displayed if available (speed traps etc). However, I think when Google gets around to adding navi to the WM platform they will have the product to beat. I have a Garmin Nuvi now which I pretty much utterly despise hence I will be using my HD2 for navigation for the time being using Bing. I definitely need to get a adapter for car use though as the HD2 really sucks down the power, even more when the GPS is active.
Problems with Bing turn by turn with voice navigation.
Don't feel bad. Bing has died on me regularly while using voice turn by turn directions on both the stock rom and on elegencia......my theory is it's getting to areas of no net signal, panics and the program exits...would seem to me the stupid program could cache the whole trips from the beginning or at least give a friggin beep when it's gonna die and offer to "resume" from where it left off on restart. Sometimes I give up and just have it print me the directions....been eyeing google maps more and more.
Bing shuts down on HD2.
Thanks for your replies gentlemen. Thing is I never had this problem on my HTC Touch Pro. I was running an NRG WM 6.5 ROM on that Touch Pro and never encountered one single problem with Bing, whether it was a 5 min route or 200+ road trip. I find it amazing that such a popular/useful app on the Windows Marketplace is so glitchy with such an important and popular device. BTW I too have Cookies Home Tab, but I shut down Sense and run SPB Mobile Shell and still have problems with Bing. I will flash to an NRG ROM in two weeks, and will report then.
i have been having the same problem on my tilt 2. the only time i have been able to get it to work is when i have a stock rom or close to stock. if its a rom that can recognize my phone as a tilt 2 bing navigation always works great. i can never get it to work on energy roms : ( m.bing.com wont even load right on energy roms cause the site cant tell what phone im using. drives me crazy cause i love the energy roms but i really want to use bing!
I have been having the same problem as well. Closes after about 10-30 seconds of navigation. Stock rom with tmobile HD2.
Uninstalling and reinstalling bing fixed it for a day, now nothing I can do fixes it.
Been using waze as a secondary, but I would love to find a fix for this.
Bing gets update, maybe fixes crashes?
I just installed the latest version of Bing which can be found at this link (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...ce-cadd-4c37-b3a6-14b7d72626f0&displayLang=en). I haven't had a chance to test the navigation because I'm at the office, but everything else runs very smooth even after toying around with it for about 5 minutes (previous version stalled or shut down on my HD2).
I've only been using the latest version for a very short time, but so far it seems to be much better. I used to get a crash basically every time I used the turn by turn. I was using it quite a bit today, and not one crash. Hopefully that will continue. I'd definitely recommend updating to the latest version if you haven't already. Can't find anything new in the latest version though. Anyone find a change log?
Peace
Dan
Crashes on latest Bing update
Hate to report that on my way back from home Bing crashed during navigation on the latest update. It was fine for about 15 minutes, then the screen froze and I couldn't exit the application. I had to perform a soft reset. This is really frustrating and only reinforces my hatred towards Microsoft for releasing such buggy ****.
I've noticed this too, however, for me it seems to only happen when the phone becomes hot. As soon as the phone cools down it works fine for me. If you have AC in your car hold it in front of the air vent for about 30 seconds and soft reset and it will work fine. As long as it is kept cool it wont shut down.
Also try using navigation without plugging the phone into a car charger as it seems to generate a lot of internal heat while charging. Besides you should get 2-3 hours of navigation if you start with a full charge and that should be more then adequate for most trips.
I don't know why it shuts down automatically but this seems to work for me
Alternatives.
I haven't tested extensively but the Dutty N4S Legacy HD2 ROMS seem very stable with Bing. Here's the link (http://htcpedia.com/htc_dutty_legacy/reviews/rom-builds.html). Or you can try an Android build and use Google Maps navigation, also extremely stable and a pleasure to use and explore. Here's the link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=787189).
I have the same problems with both bing and google map, the phone reboot itself after about 10-15 minutes of navigation, I have latest stock ROM with original SPL, OS: 5.2.21913, Radio 2.15.50.14. I have no additional application installed.
I believe this hardware issue since i know many people has the same annoying problem.
HD2, T-Mobile, USA
I'm not sure how much of this, is the phone or the ROM or google maps. I'm using MOAR ROM.
Any way first issue:
1) If you are Navigating and receive a call after a few minutes it will squawk that it can't find your location !!! This never happened with old google maps (prior to V7) on my HTC M7. Nor this phone with old google maps. Why would the GPS stop locating you while on a call. I thought it might be this phone, in how it works. But my wife just got the message on her M7 today. I know all about assisted GPS. That is for getting initial lock. Once locked it should be just GPS tracking.
2) It's been hoping location like crazy. The route will take you say on a exit ramp but the Software assumes you didn't take the ramp. Reroutes, then reroutes back when sees it's way off. It's been really bad lately that I almost don't want to use it. I swear it's Google MAPs though. Your location isn't always accurate enough to know what lane your in and it should assume you are on the route. I've seen it jump to parallel side roads while Navigating on the highway. It shouldn't do that and your location isn't always accurate enough for it to differentiate that and should assume you are on the route it gave you.
By the way I have been running the old version for quite some time. But past few months it's been having different issues, like search not working well because I think it was getting too old to work anymore. My wifes M7 was having the same issues. I actually like the new version now, when it works. I finally talked her into switch and she saw issue #1 today. Don't know yet if she has 2nd issue or not yet.
Anyone else have these issues.
I wasn't sure if there are some hidden setting or specific ways I should set my location settings.
I had "High Accuracy" on and I just switched it to "GPS Only" and see if that helps.
I have been experiencing #2 since the last few app updates on both my GS5 and my GS3. So I've been pretty convinced its not device dependent.
I see this #2 on my S5 and my S3. It also makes Waze not find my location until the Google Maps force closes itself. Then it all works. Prior to the force closing, an app like GPS lock will show that it has a very good GPS lock despite what Google Maps thinks. It's google maps and just keep reporting feedback through the google maps app.
Are you ABSOLUTELY sure you did a full clean wipe before flashing? I once dirty flashed on v1.1 and that is the exact problem I had.
I mean....no offense, bro. Even if you did a full wipe before, do a full wipe again. Always TiBu your apps, it'll take less time to set back up.
Version 2.1 does seem the best yet. Also remember to set up everything BEFORE enabling Xposed Installer. Less chance of any FC's.
Hi all,
After a lot of testing trying to find an answer I come here for help.
My GPS is not working properly in an unlocked new Exynos S10+.
Problem: When you are in a car or even running, the current location "jumps" every 2 seconds to the new location as opposed to what it should do, move smoothly and transition following you. In the car it is quite annoying. It is like updates rate is 0.5Hz as opposed to whatever times per second it should do.
Facts:
It happens with all the applications. Google maps, Maps.ME, GPS diagnostics tool,...
It happens with google location services ("High accuracy") ON or OFF.
It happens at any location and always.
I have tried everything I could imagine except totally resetting the phone.
Can anyone try if google maps its updating the location smoothly with a decent level of zoom?
Any ideas how to fix it? It is the only thing that does not allow me to enjoy the phone fully.
Thanks!
are you running power saving mode or running the app in game tools? or running some performance tuner tools

Hi jemfalor,
Thanks for answering. Nope. Neither of them. Clean phone without almost any app. It is not my daily driver for the moment because I wanted to see if I feel comfortable with it.
No extra tool and it is running in optimized mode.
Is yours smooth when using google maps? Is the position updating continuously and not "jumping"?
Thanks!
Can anyone confirm if the movement of the GPS position is continuous and smooth or it jumps in discreet intervals? (Zooming it is more visible)
Thanks!

Has anyone found a fix for this? It got worse after the update to android 10 and it has made google maps basically useless. Thanks!
On my s10+ it is continuous and not jerky. I did however see on my car radio that is a android radio that the gps is jerky as mentioned by you. I have tried everything on the radio, but nothing helps...The only thing that i did pick up with the jerky movement is that if I have a destination/route in mpas, then it's smooth...if I just drive and maps is open, then it's jerky...I can't really give advice as it runs smooth on my phone.
Hello, have you found any solution? I have the same problem.
Will it be a software problem? Should I ask for a refund? haha
I used Google maps last night, as usual when going to a new place, but this time my phone was extremely sluggish and almost non-responsive to when trying to use other apps while Google Maps was in use. It was literally taking 10-20 seconds to open apps (stock and 3rd party) and even my music was stuttering sometimes.
On At&t
Latest firmware with October security patch
I restarted it, but had the same issue on the way home.
Anyone else have this issue, or know what could be causing it?

You could try clearing the cache for Google Maps and if that doesn't help try clearing both the cache and data for Google Maps.
If that doesn't help either hit all apps on your home screen and close all background apps.
I don't have AT&T firmware which is fairly heavily modded by AT&T but you could have some corrupt data in the Google Maps app (which clearing the app cache and data should fix) or an app running in the background that is using too much memory.
The latter shouldn't be a problem on a $1000 flagship phone but last week my unlocked S10+ issued a pop up warning that my device was running out of memory and that I needed to close running background apps to avoid performance problems.
Samsung's One UI has way more garbage running in the background than MIUI, EMUI, Oxygen or stock Android. Prior to the S10+ I haven't owned a Samsung phone since back in the Galaxy 3 days but the Galaxy and Note phones developed a bad reputation for slowing down and becoming sluggish after 6-12 months of use.
That might be what's happening to you.
If nothing else helps a complete factory reset of your device and fresh install of your apps (rather than from a Google Cloud Backup) should make your phone run like new again.
If it doesn't then you might be experiencing a hardware problem that requires service.
