WP7 keep restating - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

Why is my hd2 wp7 keep random restarting.

Unplug the USB cable.

put another SD card in it, it isn't compactible, and make sure your sim card is also inserted

It sounds like an incompatible sd card... what kind are you using?
And did you see my post in your other thread about the solution to android not being able to see your sd card? You have to use minitool partition magic to change wp7 partition from logical to primary, and the android can mount and see the sd card fine.

Get a new sd card that's why.

SD Card corrupts with USB data transfer

When I do a data transfer between my Mac and my G1 running Cyanogen, the SD Card immediately comes back as corrupted. I am unmounting properly.
When I have the stock Donut on the G1 it works fine, no corruption.
Any ideas?
This used to happen to me all the time. I guess the card wasn't compatible with the phone. I was using fat32+ext2, fat32+ext3 or even fat32 on it's own and I was always having problems.
If it doesn't happen on stock donut I assume it's an issue with our ext partition (if you have one).
I would agree with you except I am able to 100% reproduce it on the 3 SD Cards I have. I am using this method to partition my SD Card through the console of the Cyanogen bootloader: http://androidandme.com/2009/08/news/how-to-manually-partition-your-sd-card-for-android-apps2sd/ I have rooted and unrooted my phone a few times trying to troubleshoot this and it happens every single time.
What happens if you only use fat32?
I've had issues w/ two cards, including the one that came with the phone. If you can, try a Transcend card.
I have not tried just one partition of FAT32 under Cyanogen. I am going to try moving a file via USB with Cyanogen 4.2.4 in a moment. If that corrupts the card I will try just a single FAT32 partition.
I have used the SD Card that came with the phone, an 8GB Class 6 Transcend, an 8 GB Class 4 Patriot (which I know have issue with the Dream so I don't really count that) and a brand new 8GB Class 6 ADATA.
I really appreciate your help.
It appears that the latest CyanogenROM (4.2.4) has solved my issue!
I have done a bunch of 1GB+ file transfers via USB back and forth with my Mac, created directories, deleted files, etc and it's holding steady (just one random reboot but I can't say if it's related or not).

[Q] microSD card unexcpectedly unmounted

Hi,
I've a Desire HD with the 8GB microSD card that came within. Randomly I got a message something like "Sd card unexpectedly unmounted and I can't access the card. The only way to have it back again is rebooting the telephone with the option Fast Boot disabled.
Any clue about what this should be?
Regards,
I had a similar issue, although I never got the warning, well, it never actually unmounted.
I would try and take a photo and it would drop to the homescreen. I figured I had to unmount and remount the SD card
I did a factory reset to fix it. Maybe the same can help you?

I have had the same from time to time and figured it was due to low quality of the SD-card.
So I actually just switched a few moments ago for another SD-card i got laying around. This is a class 6 card though and a bit better than the class 2 samsung card that comes with the phone. We'll see how this will turn out. Hopefully its a bad microsd card and not the phone.
This solved it. Havent had any problems with the card unmounting since i changed the card.
I had this problem, even start a new thread...
This is due to some corrupt file inside the sdcard or even a bad sector.
Try to do a "chkdsk /f /r" on the sdcard...
Hi,
I've checked the original SD Card with chkdsk as sugested and everything seems OK.
Since then I've changed the original card with a 16GB Class4 Kingston card and the problem does not happen again.
Let's see......
Regards,
If I did only "chkdsk /f" it also reported that the sdcard was alright... but I still had problems...
I had to use "chkdsk /f /r" to discover that I had a bad sector...
Now, for a few days I still hadn't any problems...
Oh, this didn't happened with the stock 8GB card... it was another SD card that I already had.
Replacing the stock card did help.

SD Card Problems with Android - Solution

Other people have probably already discovered this but I thought I would share this information.
I was using an SD build of Android on my HD2 and had problems with it losing files during USB connection. I switched to a NAND build with data on SD card.
The corruptions on my SD card caused system errors, force closes and mismatching system UI numbers.
This got sooooo bad that I had resigned myself to buying a new (and bigger) SD card.
However, whilst browsing the ext4 partition threads I read about the Panasonic SD Formatter V2.0
Apparently formatting an SD card using windows isn't good enough for SD card standards. The Panasonic app sorts that.
So I copied all my files off, formatted the SD card (takes about 10 mins) with complete erase on the Panasonic app, copied them back and re-flashed my Android build.
I have now been using the card without error for over a week and am blissfully happy with Android on NAND.
Damn, I love this forum!
(Might still buy the bigger card though! )
Cheers,
GG

I had exactly the same problem, it began with corrupted files, constant errors, FC and restarts. At the end it was so bad that neither device nor PC could not read the card. Panasonic SD formater the only thing helped. However from the 2nd attempt, quick format didn't work long I.e. problems came back in few days. After full format everything seems to work OK. It's been OK for 2 weeks now
BTW card is Sandisk 8gb class 2
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
excuse my ignorance
but...how exactly do you use the panasonic reformatter? I downloaded it to my computer but after that i am lost. I tried to reformat sd card through usb connection but does not work i am at a lost now. Again please excuse my ignorance and be kind.
Put the sd card in a larger adapter card and put it in a laptop or external cardreader
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
Ive been able to put my sd card into a camera and format when I have had trouble like that and it worked.

[HD2 / WP7] SD card not detected?

I'm not sure if this is a common problem or not. There seem to be a lot of SD card issues, but the descriptions don't seem to apply to me.
I'm installing WP7 on the HD2, and everything works except that when I look in the available memory, it says there is 170MB (thereabouts) of storage space available when there is an SD card inserted. This card was present on the initial boot, and is the one that originally came with the HD2 - a SanDisk 2GB.
I don't have the restarting issues that others have seen, so I'm not sure if this is a symptom of the mysterious unsupported SD card issue?
hi,
Did you read this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=912904
Partially, but I find most people there are having problems with constantly rebooting, or similar problems. I don't have these problems, just that the SD card isn't being used. I also have a wifi problem (always Searching) which I've read is SD card-related but I don't know if that because the SD card isn't being found and utilised, or that the card itself isn't supported.
Never mind. I tried another card (8GB SDHC, as opposed to the 2GB SD) and that picked it up straight away so it looks like it was just a case of the SD card being unsupported.
Hope this proves useful to others also.
What steps did u take when "trying another sd card" I have the 16 gig which i did NOT 1rst time boot with but did have interesting glitches i.e. wifi and reboots..
I tried Hard resetting with it in but to no avail. Hopefully there is still hope for my existing card as I am going to attempt a full 1rst install with it in but maybe you could post the steps you took when getting the new card to work
I powered off, inserted the new SD card, booted into MAGLDR and reinstalled Windows Phone 7. I believe the SD card has to be present on the first boot, so I reset may work, but I reinstalled just to be sure!
After installation and the first boot, the new SD card was recognised and used (as confirmed by checking 'About' in 'Settings'). Hope that helps.

No SD Card detected however .. (please help)

Hi,
(Strange problem - OS does not detect SD Card however Bootloader does and loads ROM from SD Card)
I have a strange problem from this morning. I had WP7 mango installed which was working pretty ok apart from a few restarts if the bottom part of phone got warm/hot, so I kept it in from of AC (This idea usually works with HD2)
This morning, WP7 gave an error saying it can not detect the 16 GIG SD Card, I reformatted SD Card using Nokia phone/FAT32 and re-installed WP7 however it gave a message saying No Storage Card present.
I have also tried installing WM6.5 but that too doesnt not detect SD Card.
On top of above, strange thing is that I have installed 3 different version on WM6.5 stock ROM using SD Card method (pressing VolDn methos while powering phone up to boot load ROM from SD Card) and it works perfectly fine however the OS does not detect SD Card.
Has any body faced this problem and have a solution?
Or does any body know of a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Ash.

further to add, i have tried 2 sd cards 4gb and 16 gb. WM6.5 says no SD Card present however the WM6.5 and all of software (ROM, Radio, Splash etc) were loaded/installed using LEOIMG.nbh on 16gb SD Card.
I have searched the forum as well as other sites, and have tried re-formatting sd card as well to no luck.
Please help, if you have any idea of whats wrong.
Cheers,
Ash

We're all too surprised you managed to flash using a 16gb SD card.,,, normally anything 8gb or larger won't flash nbh files, so your problem is pretty strange.
I lost the shipped 8GB SD card more than year back and since then I am using 16GB SD card with HD2 and it worked perfectly.
Does OS like WP7/WM6.5 uses mount in some way to have card and contents available? If so, can it be mounted using MAGLDR or CWM, since the bootloader which IPL can read the SD Card.
Cheers,
Ash
indeed this is a baffling problem. can't think of conclusive reasons why the tri-color bootloader can see the sd card but OS (WM6.5, WP7, Android) cannot!
i am assuming you have just ONE partition on the sd card...? can you check and tell us the format of the filesystem, i.e. FAT or FAT32...? i think FAT isn't even possible on a 16GB card...it will likely be formatted as FAT32, but lets check to be sure.
Hi ASCIIker,
Many thanks for your response, the SD Card is FAT32 formatted. I have tried both 4gb and 16gb cards but WM6.5 says No Card found.
See screen shots attached. I have also attached screen shot of version showing Stock ROM flashed earlier today using SD Card.
I am not too sure, could it be some thing like mounting of SD Card under these OS's or under SPL which is not able to mount these SD Cards,
The problem started when phone was running WP7 Mango 8107 but it used to crash if it got hot and re-boot on its own, may e one of those automatic re-boots, the OS unmounted Sd card. When I looked at it in the morning, it was showing an error message of no storage card present and the options available were emergency call and shut down. I tried re-booting it 1-2 times and it still showed same message and then I tried loading WM6.5 from SD Card using LEOIMG.nbh which worked and left me confused.
I have also tried USB Mass Storage option of MAGLDR 1.13 however that doesn't work either.
I have never used CLk but I can try that if there is a way to access SD Card using USB with it.
Any suggestions for reviving it back are welcome.
Cheers,
Ash

It is worth a shot but i suspect you it still will not detect the SD card. Just click on the HD2 guide in my sig and scroll down to post #3 and look for the section "Updated version of clk with CWM built in" and click on the link that takes you to the download of that version. Then the bottom of post #1 and read the section "Flashing cLK via SD card". This will have clk with Clockwork Mod installed on your device. Then boot your device and hold down the home button at the same time, this will boot you into CWM and theb select "Mounts and storage" then select"mount USB storage". If you do not see the contents of your SD card on your computer then it is not working. Make sure to try "install zip from sdcard" as well. Just see if it reads the SD card that way.
Also I take it from your posts that you have tried otion #4 USB Mass storage in MAGLDR. So like I said I doubt CWM will see it in mass storage either.
Seeing as WP7 uses the SD card for the internal memory and is constantly using the SD card reader on the device at high speeds. It may just be a case of the SD card reader not being operable with the OS anymore. I mean it has to work at a certain speed level I think for the OS to be able to use it, and maybe the bootloader does not require that same speed. Or it may just be a case of the reader not being able to mount the SD card as read and write both still so it just will not mount it. Like I said these are just shots in the dark. But if it is a problem with it mounting in either read or write it could cause this problem I beleive.
Hi T-Macgnolia, thank you for this detailed reply. I was able to install CLK using SD Card method however it does not recognize SD Card nor does it mount it. It shows an error message - see attached screen shot.
I was wondering if a faster SD Card like Class 6 8 GB would make any difference to current state.

Ash

if you're getting the same behaviour with all your cards, then its likely to be a problem with the phone, and messing with this class of that sized card is probably a dead end. (thats not to say you shouldnt try if you have cards available, of course!)
To my mind its gotta be one of two things
1 - some problem with the sd controller, that is allowing low level access to the card, so flashing works, but not allowing the higher level drivers full speed access to the card, in much the same way that a PC accesses the hard disk much faster during a normal boot than it does with a 'safe mode' boot.
2 - a virus/glitch/witchcraft/wp7/other has corrupted all your sd cards in some fashion.
Just guesses, of course.
Good luck.

I agree with Samsamuel completely, it seemsit is something wrong with the SD card reader/controller that is not letting it read the SD card at a higher speed. Or something really strange and funky has happened to all of your SD cards. But I feel it is the first thing and not the later. If you want to try another SD card, as odd as it sounds, I suggest you try a lower class SD card like a class 2 if you can find on. But then again you may already have one and already tried it I do not know. One thing for sure it seems like a hardware issue and not a software or faulty SD card issue.
I had this exact same problem, in the end I ended up going back to original leo Winmo 6.5, then starting over with HSPL - Magldr - CWM - Android (though I guess WP7 will work too).
I don't know what caused the problem, I just put all these anomalies down to the bad nand blocks on my device.
I'll also note that mass storage in Magldr has never worked for me and still doesn't, the drive mounts but crashes on transfer of any files, but within CWM and Android it works now.
If you have exhausted all other options and have not already tried this then it maybe worth a shot. Good luck.
Thanks michael-jb,
I have tried all these options. I have tried installing different WP7 again though, which I will do tomorrow or day after.
Cheers,
Ash
