Hey, I upgraded to FR008 last night and its great, except I think I've got the 2.2 sms bug which sends messages to random contacts.
I had 3 people text me last nigth saying "wtf" or something similar. I'm not sure if it was sending previously failed messages, or something else.
Anyway, is there a 2.2.3 update available for the Aria? I still want HTC Sense, is this possible?

With HTC Sense being a proprietary UI build on top of Android 2.2, it is up to HTC to incorporate Android point releases into their code and then release it. Since the current HTC Sense ROM for the Gratia/Aria is Android 2.2 and not even 2.2.1, it seems like HTC does not care whether the Gratia/Aria stay current with Android point releases.
So the answer is no? Cool.

Uhm... no.
But you can try to skin it to look like sense if that's how you want it...

Anyone have a friend or family member with a Magic?
I'd be curious to see if there's any new features that could potentially be ported to our Hero.

Looks like they have a pull port of Eclair as well. I bet we could steal their sense for our AOSP builds, problem with that IMHO: Most of the people running AOSP want Vanilla - The push to get it in and working would be minimal. Sense is sadly not as simple as installing an APK.

Why would you want to add Sense to an AOSP build? That's basically your stock ROM minus some of the crap apps crammed on there, which is already available.

I was wondering the same thing when I saw this on Engadget this morning, what version of Android is the MyTouch running, I thought I remember hearing that it was on 1.6.

It is 1.6.
My co-worker has one and likes to remind of the fact that it came pre-installed on his MyTouch.
EDIT: Correction, he got it OTA. I'm running AOSP1.6 now anyway so... screw him!

Hey guys, I know about the whole "disabling sense" trick in the manage applications folder.
But I was wondering if it were possible to take all sense related things off of my evo completely?
I switched to this phone from the Droid thinking I would really enjoy sense but in all honest I don't.
Aside from updating to the hacked 2.2 Rom. I was wondering if there was a version of 2.1 for the evo that still allowed the camera to work (I use it numerous times a day and haven't really changed roms much because of it.)

No, there is not a full AOSP rom for the EVO. As far as I know at least. Darch has a full AOSP rom for the hero, but doesn't develop for the evo. (Not yet )
The best you can do would be disable sense, or flash a rom with "sense removed" which basically means they have replaced the top bar and launcher. From there you can simply install AOSP apps (mail, sms, phonebook, browser, etc) The only thing that you cannot change without an AOSP full rom would be in call. That will stay Sense.
Look in my sig..not the evolution rom the other one..its the closest 2.1 rom that has the most sense crap taken out that I can find.
Thanks man, ill definitely try it out

We already have Froyo (CM6) but not with Sense.
Desire is getting 2.2 Froyo with Sense Update this weekend.
Also Evo is getting it Ago. 3 but that one cannot be ported or I'm wrong?
It can be ported to Hero?

Which Sense apps? There are great replacements for almost if not all of them.
I loved Sense and would not flash an AOSP Rom, but once they released the first build of CM6 back in June I flashed it and kept it on my phone for 3 weeks. I installed launcher pro and beautiful widgets along with some other apps that I thought were decent like extended control widget. I got sense deprived and flashed a sense rom back on, but found myself reinstalling launcher pro because I like dock a lot more than Sense. And people can say that they can make a ROM with Sense just as fast as froyo are lying. I tried everything I could to get it as fast as froyo but was unable too. I have DC running right now, because I am working on porting something over from the EVO. Once everything is working on CM6 I will flash again.
The only thing that may be good is to get the HTC framework working with froyo and then you can still use the HTC apps, but other than that you can find alternative widgets that are close to or better than the HTC widgets

IMHO, the only one Not replaceable is the VVM. (and no, GoogVoice is not a great alternative/just as good, frankly. the number forwarding shell game, redundant emails, txtx, etc, annoying. and simply not as responsive or "easy to use") I hate to say it, but it was this feature that sold me on this phone. of course since I have found other reasons to love it.
everything else can be replaced easy. (in fact, msg me w/ your email, I can send a pack...)
personally not using Froyo just yet, looking forward to a Sense port as well... but I can wait.
Sorry guys but the topic here is not if you like Sense or Not...

golly, sorry to have totally sent your thread into offtopic there, buddy, but to answer your question I think:
well, it really depends on what phone its being released for... as far as I know, whats coming out is for the EVO, Desire, etc... and as darchstar said in this thread:
darchstar said:
u guys r such n00bz . we can't port an htc evo rom cuz its optimized to run on snapdragon armv7 arch. it will never boot with those libs. our hopes for a 2.2 sense rom would be a froyo legend rom, or a froyo espresso rom, as those both have libs optimized for armv61/armv5te

and the desire also runs the snapdragon, so... no.

No porting the desire is not worth while. The legend will be the one I and several other dev's are waiting for this will get ported to the hero.

You wont see it until a 2.3 sense rom is available. It'd be way too much work.

they have pretty much said there will be an official gingerbread for desire... HOWEVER, our phone unfortunately wont be on the top of the priority list, as you said, because its relatively "older" incomparison.. plus.. add to the delay the fact it has to filter down to our providers so they can make THIER changes, and then it will be officially released..
To OP: So in short... not anytime soon.. Try out CM7 Nightlies.. they are damn stable and you can really replicate most of sense with a custom launcher (LPPro has great replacements to most of the sense widgets)
I have just seen some wildfire s movies and the point is:
it's runneing gingerbread and it has a flip clock.
My question is: If the htc wildfire s has nearly the same things as the normal wildfire.
Can we (if the wildfire s is released) port gingerbread from the s version to ours.
Or will there be an update with the new sense and gingerbread.
Please could someone that know something about it say something to me, please.
And my second question is: Can someone already put the new sense in a rom.
I hope someone really know something about it.

It is not nearly the same. It is totally different. And, to get the new Sense, the code has to be released by HTC. Till that, there wont be a GB Sense Enabled ROM for the Wildfire.
Also, I am pretty sure with the release of the S, HTC will not conveniently forget the original Wildfire and probably not release any updates for it. Its basically an EOL Product now. Its the way the industry works.
After some monthes on the market every mobile phone is EOL. You are right!

If you really want gingerbread on wildfire, you can try Cyanogen 7. There is no htc sense with cyanogen though.
Just for the new sense

Its more like the aria or gratia (what is the point of that - considering the wildfire s is better) or legend or salsa than the wildfire (they are all the same phone in a different box with a different rom)

Or will there be an update with the new sense and gingerbread. - Not really with a spray of impossible

Hello people,

This is a question to alex, I think that you know more about it.
So is it possible to port htc sense to cm7.
And so yes:How can I do it on my own.
So please answer.
edit ment normal sense.
It is possible to get the Gingerbread update but no way it would get the new Sense.

Why not.
I mean can not one app ported to a aosp rom?
Simply because HTC apps require a framework that AOSP ROMS do not have as it is power consuming and is slow.

As djdevine2 stated above, porting Sense would be very hard or even impossible. Sense is like a bug that crawls really deep inside the Android OS. Eliminating is it hard, I imagine introducing it would be also very, very hard.
And not to mention the possible Legal issues that could appear
maybe there is hope
It has also been rumored that the HTC Wildfire will receive the recently released 2.3 Gingerbread update.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTC_Wildfire
This is just a rumor, but there is still hope.
Doesn't look so. If you look at the citation on that particular line, and, read that thread in another forum, there is nothing there to state that HTC has said anything about 2.3 on Wildfire. It is simply a speculative thread, and, points to CM7 for 2.3 on Wildfire.
"You can have your doubts about when your phone maker will finally get around to delivering an Android 2.3 update (March if you're with HTC, June if Samsung, 2017 if you're unfortunate enough to own a Sony Ericsson), but the smartphone dev community doesn't work that slowly. The guys who build custom ROMs just for the sheer pride of it have already begun work on delivering Gingerbread to owners of HTC's EVO 4G, Droid Eris, and Wildfire."
