I sometimes have problems with booting up games. You first see the loading screen and then the game just disappears. Sometimes I can boot up another game, after which the previous game which did not work, works.
I think Sony need to hurry with a Firmware Update to sort this out, Before we loose Faith. come Sony.
i have the same problem with splinter cell. That is a really bummer.
Could it be that my internal storage memory is left with only 50 mb
Same problem here with Sims 3, bruce lee and asphalt 6 closing randomly.

In order to lose faith, one has to have it. Why should I have faith in Sony's products? They stated that their Éclair was better than Froyo, for example.

Come on bro let that pass. They literally spun 180 degrees now. I mean name me one android manufacturer that allows unlocked bootloaders. Heck the Play is on Android 2.3 only the nexus s is 2.3 right now not even the dual core atrix is there yet.
They allow unlocked bootloaders for the precious few who will get the phone unlocked right away, which creates a good bit of confusion for the buyers of free phones. As of now, I don't know if my sim-unlocked phone's BL's are unlockable or not . I bet Samsung (who has announced that they will open their BL's as well) and the rest of manufacturers will follow the same policy as Sony, as it makes sense: if you want to fully own the phone, give us hundred percent of the phone's price. If you get a carrier subsidy, you don't have any say on who owns the phone's insides.
And even if their bootloaders were open like the sea, that doesn't address the other point: Sony's software sucks, and their after-sale support sucks even harder. If you buy something from Sony, it's because it has great hardware and it's solid, not because of what Sony promises to do with it.
Actually, the same applies for any Android device: if you want an issue addressed, you better put your hopes (and your beer funds) in a good-willed programmer. The device seller will leave you unattended, and you can only hope that although they let you and your phone rot, they haven't killed the chances for improvement. Why do you think I titled this thread What do you expect of a CUSTOM ROM?
And you know the best part? The fact that the manufacturer doesn't care about its Android products is a good thing. It leaves open space for tinkerers to do as they please. I had a Galaxy S (the one I'm selling for this phone) with Gingerbread before the Play was even released.
P.S: Some further proof of what Sony Ericsson making bad software means: http://android.modaco.com/content/s...iew-modaco-com/322585/sony-ericsson-liveview/
mine doesnt make ashphalt past loading screen
Wonder if there's just a few faulty phones? Haven't found many others with these problems
Never had this problem with any game.
All i can suggest is formatting your SD card and making sure your firmware is the latest.
mine is okay. does it maybe once in a week only. it could be due to low ram. close all apps before getting in. it should work normal. i mean mine doesnt go on my nerve. once in a week is normal for the first software pgrade. wait for the next ones and we should b eokay. i still love it. i play back stab and everyone is like :O
just like back then with WALKMAN and SE cameras.
and P series.
so go ahead and hate SE. but few know how great they are. they mix latest tech with phones.
i am very happy with my phone.
btw i got it from rogers canada
I think u just need internet connection when booting games

I'm above "hating" the company which made the netbook and the telly I use every day. I bought them because they are excellent pieces of kit: Sony always packs good hardware. That doesn't blind me to the fact that they suck in software: e.g many an XPlay reviewer recommended to do away with Timescape as your daily driver launcher since it has a lot of issues with speed and stability.
No problem with my phone, i have rooted and removed heaps of stuff though. I have 270mb ram free usually.
Personally I couldnt give a rats ass about this update lol all ure gonna get is a few minor graphical changes and performance tweaks. All I want is for the playstation suite stores to open finally in my area.

I like the part where you clearly have no idea what you're on about.
Call me crazy, but I can't get that worked up about an OS.
The Xperia Play remains the device I've always dreamed of carrying with me, ever since I first saw the PSP and wished it could fit in a pocket and make calls and texts. If you'd have told me that device would one day stop getting official OS updates, I would hardly have been shocked or put off it. If you'd have told me the manufacturer released its latest beta freely and remained supportive of unofficial development (I know part of the thanks to that is Android), I'd have been impressed.
I have friends with Galaxy Notes and S2s and they see my gamepad, and freaking ZELDA on N64oid, and their eyes light up. It's a really, really cool device. Not that I hate their phones or anything, but I wouldn't swap. Hell I wouldn't swap for a Galaxy S3 or HTC One X or whatever the latest is currently. Now they may be the dream devices for some people here, but for me it would be as exciting as swapping a PS3 for an ironing board. If I didn't think that buttons are an essential for making games fun, I'd buy an iPhone, seriously. Much as I prefer the open nature of Android, iOS has many more apps.
90% of Play owners out there do not have root or an unlocked bootloader. They are not as technical as posters on XDA, and would not have been expecting game buttons to go wrong. It would have been a support nightmare for Sony to have let those people upgrade if there were going to be issues. For the rest of us, we can flash the beta / whatever dev roms we want. What I mainly liked about the ICS beta was the hardware accelerated browsing. But if Gingerbread ends up being the way to go, then I'll just use Opera for that. Nothing else on a generic gamepad-less ICS phone would really hold a candle to playing console games with buttons whereever I want.
I'm much more pissed off at EA for not making our optimised exclusives, FIFA and Dead Space, available in the UK for people who were too late for that deal, even to buy.
Its a phone im getting sick of tinkering with it....i just wanna play my games, text my *****es and occasionly call my parents and tell them im alive...ics pfft.

I find the part where you say that OP has no idea what hes on about to be worthy of a good ol fashioned facepalm.
ICS is pretty much all OP says it is. Graphical and Performance tweaks. Swipe off notifications (pointless as I have a handy little cross on Gingerbread that removes notifications anyway), Swipe task killer (not as amazing as it sounds as I have a better way...close the app properly) and some browser related stuff like hardware accelerated browsing and swipe off tabs (again, just open up tabs and click the little cross in the corner)
Almost everything on ICS is there to save you a whole, get this, few seconds. More often than not you dont end up swiping a particular notification/app/tab off and end up opening it instead.

On ICS, with N64oid you can use the gamepad touchpads.
(but atm, N64oid with ICS is still laggy ...)
Its true that we dont need it. But like my self i bought the phone since i have in mind buying an ICS but didnt wanted to spend $600 or more in it.
I own an ICS tablet and its the first android that doesnt need tweeks or that i find no use of a custom rom to make it work the way i like.
Do i need ICS on my xperia play?
Yes, please.

I love the part where you think you do. Do me a favor, how about you buy a different brand of phone so you can realize that Sony is actually just as good, if not better at supporting their devices than HTC, Motorola, Samsung, [insert name here].
Better yet, skip a step and just buy a ****ing iPhone. It will compliment your douchiness nicely.
I dont need it, and I'm getting a Hayabusa when it launches locally.
I have a Xoom with 4.0.4 ICS and I don't see why everyone is making such a big fuss.
However, I would have liked to see Sony push out one more GB update for the play with updated Qualcomm drivers, updated Sony apps and maybe improved Web browser.
Im just saying its really not worth the fuss lol who cares what I want is what I was promised ps suite isnt this supposed to be a sweet ass gaming phone with a tit load of games ? I LOOOVE my emulators and the small library of optimised games and psxperia emu sony sure did **** the bed with this phone it could have been so much more!!! Still it is a TON of fun

To not forget that they sued George Hotz, also called GeoHot.
And then the reason why they took OtherOS-function away, they stated that it was a "security risk to not have a anti virus" and that everyone perhaps wasn't "aware" of that and yeah, everything is just lies when it comes to Sony, no wonder they have to cut down on their TV-selling and produce less number of TVs and more on.
And they don't have any nice support at all.
And what is ridiculous is that they took the most bad hardware-specs they could have found for an 2011-device for Xperia Play and the fact that Xperia Play has the most limited RAM in the 2011 Xperia-line is laughable for sure.
And they have never been that nice to us customers, and I believe this is the last nail in the coffin for me with Sony and me, it's not just working to have sale arguments that hang loose and playing with customers.
And to not forget the Playstation SDK that was in beta-stage for a long time ago that isn't stable yet, it disturbs me, the community for Playstation-certified devices was dead before it even was born as it seems according to how Sony are threating their customers as we are just a playground for their market and nothing that they see as that important.
And I have give up on Sony about that they are making improvements in their relation to the market that they are selling their products to, since I still feel that it was a bad move for Sony and their lawyers to totally turn the hacking-scene for PS3 upside down since I never had as an intention to get games for free, but I liked the feature of not have to run signed code and that you was free to do other stuff as well, and you could run Linux on it and have XBMC on it and have own themes, have a backup-manager and load the games without an ISO if you have a bunch of games for the console and everything I wanted and was given from Sony, they just took it away just like that, assuming that everybody's intention was to get everything for free.
And it's much more that I dislike about Sony, just look at this sound-curve
(From Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray compared with iPhone 3GS):
http://st.gsmarena.com/vv/reviewsimg/se-c901/gsmarena_a001.png
And it's just so many faults that Sony has done that I dislike them for, and I won't contribute with buying something more from them as a customer, since they give us products that has potential, but instead of working with that potential and take benefit of those potentials, then they instead take the potentials away and kill their own creations, time after time, and I have really liked them, and I liked their PS1, I have PLENTY of games for it, and I liked their PS2 as well and I have even more games to that, and I really liked them and was sure for having the PS2 when it was released, but then the PS3 came, my thoughts went like "It's so expensive, should I buy it or should I go for an XBOX 360" and I thought that I had to buy the PS3 since I used to like Sony's Playstation-concept, but it turned out that my bet was on the wrong machine, I should had go for the XBOX 360.
And after giving Sony their 2nd try now with a product that I thought would fall between the chairs, it turned out that I was right, and after those experiences with the whole Playstation-certification, overpriced hardware-specs and the very to late Playstation Suite SDK, that will make me not to choose Sony ever again, the focus on the customers seems to be equal with zero.
And this is just another sad chapter in Sony's history according to me.
To not forget that all the Xperia Play development-devices that Sony had at shows had an HDMI-port that could mirror the display to the TV, and was later on removed duo to, according to Sony/Sony Ericsson themselves it was laggy, well, I don't think they spooked the whole truth, since the device had the ports at other positions compared to todays devices that we have, those development devices must had another SoC, GPU, amount of RAM and more with way higher specs and I think Sony took lower performing parts with an meaning and for reasons.
Like one reason about the fact that it would had been to expensive to produce in larger scales with a good profit as well per sold device.
And yeah, I could go on like this forever, but I think it's 'nuff said, I'm no longer loyal to Sony as they have spitted me among many other customers in our faces too many times before, and yeah, I see this as an end of an book called "my life with Sony"
Dont forget what they did to graf, they went gang busters on him

While these i5 MUCH and JXD devices may be a great handheld consoles, they are in no way an Xperia Play replacement. What makes Xperia Play cool and unique is that it looks like a slick, profesional phone you can use in the adult world without no one guessing it's also a great handheld console. This is the defining point and "an Xperia Play alternative" MUST have this feature. To anyone past high school it would look extremely stupid trying to have a public conversation holding these things.
So far, the Bladepad is the only legit replacement i've seen so far. The downside is you need to own an iPhone and I refuse to buy one. There is the small posibility they would release Bladepads for the most famous Android phones, so in a perfect scenareo I could buy a Galaxy 3 or 4 (whichever has better battery durability) and a Bladepad. But i've been waiting for ages and no news, so I guess I will need to buy a Xperia Play since for some reason no one is capitalizing on the slide-gamepad+phone thing. I only want to play old dos classics like Duke, Doom, and snes/gb emulations and thats it. The most hardware demanding game I like is the Carmageddon one, so I dont really need much extra power than what the Xperia Play has. It also has good battery life which is very important when gaming.
Yes I would love an Xperia Play 2 but im tired of waiting and it's just not happening, and no one wants to release a slide-gamepad+phone so there's no other option so I need to buy one asap to satisfy my gaming needs.

You're stating your opinion as fact. I do not care if you or anyone else thinks I'd look "stupid" using a JXD or i5 Much in public. I do not own either of those phones, I use Nexus devices, but those who do own those devices surely enjoy their phones.
You say that you don't care to play new games that are coming out, and there's nothing wrong with that, but most people do care about playing the latest games. The Xperia Play doesn't have the specs needed to enjoy many of the latest titles, and people are moving on because they care about gaming.

I agree. I own the Much I5 and enjoy it very much. yes it would be nice to hide the controls for convenience, but not because i think people judge me. 75% of the people that see me using it think that its awesome and want to know more about it and the other 25% don't care and go on with their own business. The Xperia Play is a gaming phone with physical controls this means anything can be its alternative as long as it have has those things.
PS: I can't wait for the release of the next Xperia Play but till then these alternatives will have to do.

Even if Sony doesn't make it i'm just talking about in general a major flagship company. Such as samsung, LG, Moterola, .....etc.
I wouldn't trade my xperia play for any phone.
It seems you're like me, playing mostly old games with emulator (tbh I think most android games are total crap except oldies remake).
The xperia play is just perfect for that, it doesn't need an upgrade, yet.
Maybe for the smartphone part, but it's just fine with it for the gaming part.
The day they release a PS2 emulator for android with more hardware requirement that'll be a different story though.

I have no words to describe how amazing that would be. Even right now thinking about it makes my heart pump.
Quick question to every one if they had a ps2 emulator that ran flawlessly right now, what would be you first game to play on it. For me it would be Jak and Daxter.

isn't this a bit cheaper.. even this is high for this phone nw.. but still.
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Ericsson...F8&qid=1387012728&sr=8-2&keywords=xperia+play
I have to agree that there is no real alternative yet to Xperia Play with regards to the hidden keypad. But as a gaming phone, I guess the JXD and iMuch are close enough... gameplay wise. So it really falls onto the user if he wants to buy a device that's obviously aimed at gaming. I'm honestly torn about it since the phones are made and designed in China and may have suspect quality in terms of hardware and software. So I don't know, I'll probably wait for good custom roms or better support from the companies before actually buying one. I still use my Xperia Play as an MP3 player and a gaming device on the go but my Galaxy Note 10.1 is my current cellphone. Now if Nintendo made a 3DS that's also a cellphone, then my life would be so complete.
Like I said, the iMuch and JXD devices are great devices, but they aren't Xperia Play alternatives because for this, at least IMO they lack the defining feature of a perfectly stealth console in a phone. If I was in a business reunion and I got I a call and went like "excuse me, I have a call" and popped out a PSP into my ear and started talking people would think I must be ****ing kidding.
So having said that, can anyone tell me if the link I posted is a legit new Xperia Play? I dont want to buy the wrong one. Also, should i be expecting that price? It seems ovepriced to me.

That's only a speculation...
They were merged with Ericsson and we all know how that went so I really doubt those info's were actually came from Sony...
They failed to achieve few Q planas...We could expect rumors and info's like that..
Im quite sure no one has enough money to be able to Buy Sony Mobile and NOT Fall apart afterwards
I think thats not true. At the end they would have nothing to do.

I was actually thinking if they sell everything what they have, what's left for them? They'll only be selling PS4s and one day people will start to get tired of it or Xbox will start doing good then they'll be on the same page. I'm happy on one thing which they didn't bring a new device to market this CES, and I hope they'll at least try competing their phablet market with Note 4 with a new ultra with good multitasking. There's this small app which I've installed on my tablet (I think its called media viewer small app), I hope they'll do better job than that. Hope to see some good news on Sony.
