I'm on the latest stock for the Fascinate (rooted) with all of my carriers information written to it. Data and MMS work fine. For some reason, though, I cannot use any GPS-enabled apps without first starting Sprint Navigation. My carrier is IV Cellular and usually any aGPS server will work. I installed the Sprint Navigation app from the HTC hero I had. Anyone else have this problem, like on Cricket or Metro?

You could download the GPS Status App in the Market. If you run that before running your maps, it downloads the aGPS data too.
Or I could be completely wrong and a total idiot. But since it's a free app, won't hurt to try.
Hell, I think it worked. I uninstalled Sprint Nav though. The GPS status app almost seems like a combination of HTC's GPS Status and QuickGPS apps. I also set the phones PDE server to Verizon, not google using the Samsung dialer codes. it works better than ever.

I bought the HTC Desire Z from Bell in Canada about a week ago. So far im loving it. but... the phone is missing "Locations" app which a normal DZ should have. I emailed and asked HTC and they said the Bell version of DZ DOES NOT have "Locations".
Then I started to check out my phone and I found an option in setting->location->Reinstall. That option is to reinstall the locations app. However, when I pressed the button and it said "Unable to find an activity to handle this option."
I have read that the Locations app on Desire HD is in SD card. Is there anyway for me to get the locations app back?
Thank you.
You will have to install a custom ROM to add locations, also the Canada maps cost money so kinda pointless.

The Locations *maps* are on the SD card, but as far as I'm aware, the actual app isn't.
You'll need to install a ROM containing HTC Locations, as has been said, but then you'll still need to get hold of maps.
I debranded my Bell DZ and got Locations and the Car Panel.
Here's the link.

You should be able to create your own POIs.
To get others listed you must have the map data for that area.
Locations is a month by month suscription($10.00 per month). Didn't you get some sort of notifiation of this when you launched the app. Maps I believe are free. The service seems similar to the GPS Navigator app on the Bell Desire Z.

It's not a month by month thing in the UK. I have no idea about your country. It's free to use the maps that are loaded onto your phone (e.g. my UK phone has maps of the UK, Ireland and France). But everything else does cost though - e.g. navigation, traffic, speed camera alerts, etc, etc.

I believe Locations is a free app with free maps provided by HTC.
Bell, being Bell, removed the HTC Locations app and replaced it with its own GPS Navigator app that costs $10/month.
Whatever nav application that was on my phone before debranding had loads of POI's in it. Although I have map data, I have no POI's.
Google maps navigation is awesome and free! I love it

I haven't tried to use Google Maps since I rooted, until now. After I rooted and got rid of a bunch of bloatware, I did screw up and disabled a few apps I shouldn't have messed with. A few of them were things such as Google Talk and some other things......that I 'thought' were useless, but found out quickly I couldn't even DL apps from the Market without some of them.
I got that straight, and now I have found the only thing that doesn't work is nav. I can enter the address, and the driving directions come up in text. I can also see an overall map, with the directions outlined. When I click to change teh screen to navigation mode.....it gets stuck on "getting driving directions".
I've done a little research and tried a few things. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Google Maps, I have tried GPS Booster (tried the lite version for free), and GPS Booster failed, I have made sure all of my settings were correct for GPS......
When I first open Maps, where it gives your GPS location.....the pinpointed area it shows me in is about 0.75-1.0 miles away from where I actually am. So I am wondering if it isn't going off my phone position itself, instead of GPS.....
Anyone have any tips or things to try? I am out of things I have found to do.....
you could always just odin back to stock, then re-root, and see if that does the trick.
Download Gps Test from the market, enable VZW and Google location services, turn on GPS and run Gps test. If you able to get a lock with that Nav should get a lock as well.
If it still hangs on "getting driving directions" youve prob got app problems.
I don't think there's anything wrong with the app - pretty sure it just says "getting driving directions" until it gets a GPS lock, so make sure you're locked in the GPS Status app before trying the navigation.

I'm hoping for a much simpler solution.

Downloaded two different free GPS testers.....neither will lock a location.

Ya....
I'd also like to also reiterate that after I rooted and deleted a bunch of bloatware, I did accidentally deactivate several things. I didn't actually delete ANYTHING, I simply renamed the extensions of everything from ".apk" to ".bak". Are there any critical apps I could have killed that aren't blatantly obvious by their names? I think I have all the Google stuff, and any of the voice things returned to normal. In fact I had to do that just to get the market to work....
Here are apps I have disabled:
BluetoothOPP
CarHome
CityID_1.0.27_vzn.sch.i500_12118_release
DeskHome
Dlna
Final_Schi500_3.9.3.3_07262010
I500_MyVerizon_05202010
InfoAlarm
MobileAP
MobileClientUpdate
TtsService
vnav_4.7.0.258_i500_rel_PROD-signed
Update:
I changed the last app I listed above back to .apk, and noticed that there were some changes for the better.
vnav_4.7.0.258_i500_rel_PROD-signed
When I opened Maps, I pulled up the directions like normal.....then switched it to navigate on the map. What I noticed was that the map showed up in the background.....and it was actually plotted my exact location. The map was still grayed out, and it still shows "getting driving directions".
I also ran GPS tester.....and it now shows lots of info on the display, but I am still trying to figure out how the fark to work it.
Ok, GPS tester plots within 20 feet of me.......but I can't get Maps to get into Nav mode still.
ttt
Anyone?
Anyone?
Tts is text to speach.. you need that for spoken directions.
Just a thought, but why not change all of the not so obvious ones back to apk's, and just see what happens.

I was hoping to avoid reloading to stock, especially since this app worked fine since rooting.
Anyone know if such a program exists and specifically for car navigation (unlike the offroad one currently on the market)? Kinda like Microsoft Streets & Trips but for Android. I am hoping to use my Xoom as a offline GPS since it is Wifi only model.
There are several. The cheapest is CoPilot. I have it as a backup for when I don't have data. The US only version is normally $4.99 (but I got it on sale for $2.99). I find it OK, but I prefer Google Maps Navigation.
Another is Navigon (it's quite a bit more expensive). A market seach should turn up some more.
Don't forget that Google Maps Navigation will cache the map and route for you . So you can start Navigating while you are in a WiFi hotspot and it will cache all of the maps to finish your navigation. Of course, if you get too far off route then you will have a problem.

Yeah that's kinda what I'm worried about. I need this to be a 100% offline app with full stored maps. Also obviously to be compatible with the Xoom.
which phone do you have, you could enable your wifi hotspot using your 3G network. (I do it on my desire Z/G2)

I have a Blackberry and has no option for Wifi or Bluetooth tethering. I can only do Dial-Up Networking but android doesn't support it as a client.
Have you tried Aura Sygic? if it works on XOOM and Honeycomb?

And you can find it for free on a site for Pirates.

I used Sygic back when I had a WinMo. Was a good app. I'll check this out.
Found several apps:
Aura GPS Navigation
MobileNavigator USA
Locus Free
CoPilot Live USA
NavDroyd
Anyone try any of these and know which works with the Xoom?
When I open market I am not able to see any images
Even in description I am not able to view any thumbnails. It states no connection whereas I have 3g network and everything other works fine

Sounds like a network issue. There are times when 3g etc shows but no data is transmitted.

I can access the marketvand even download apps but only the images or screenshoot of apps r not shown other everything works perfectly issue is ther in wifi also

I assume you are on Vodafone and this is an issue. Seems like they are having issues with the images, perhaps some firewall policy has disabled the images from loading.
IF you try using WiFi, you will notice that they show up.
Airtel is not having this issue, so its isolated to the Carrier and not Google / Device.
Yeah I get this too sometimes, seems to be a carrier issue cause when I set another carrier using market enabler, it works fine...
Thought this was just me!
Had similar issues my self. Go to the market to view the stop. Shows a preview of al the pictures but sometimes (more often than not..) I can't click to view any more than the first image. I've flashed a fair few roms now, I put it down to the market being a bit buggy at the moment as some work fine.
I normally google the hell out of what im getting prior to the market to make sure its what I'm after so is not really been a issue.
You can try clearing the market cache , from the task manger
I guess this is phones in general, but I have a G2 atm so asking here. I've read multiple times in the past you don't need a data connection for GPS to work on map apps and such. I was out of service completely last night and I tried using Google maps but it said cannot connect to data, so I couldn't even use it. I'm just confused as I didn't know you needed data to use GPS.

You need data to populate the maps.
Sent from my LG-D803 using XDA Free mobile app
You either need a navigation app or download from Google maps for offline use.
Sent from my LG-D802 using Tapatalk
There's no offline navigation with Google Maps. You can pre-load the maps, but it won't tell you where to turn.
TomTom works while in airplane mode with driving navigation directions though. That's what I used in Canada last week.
