Twice it crashed and now it sux - Streak 5 General

Twice I pulled my phone out of my jacket pocket and it was stuck on the dell logo. This was after using the qdl tool and updating to 318. This time instead of redoing it on 318 I used the tool again then went back to stock att 1.6. Had one screwy reboot yesterday for no reason. Both times stuck on the dell logo I couldn't factory reset. Couldn't do anything without using my computor. That's just wrong!

you sure your not holding the power button and locking it up?
I had this issue a few times when it was in my pocket. No longer have this issue using my otterbox beltclip

I had this and had to take the battery out to reset it. Once I had done this I had a look at the graph produced by Juiceplotter and it showed a 10% drain in 5 minutes!
Im not entirely sure what the drain was as it was simply in my pocket and the Juiceplotter graph did not show wifi/screen etc on.

Jacket pocket. Very lose jacket pocket. I'm on att 1.6 for a couple days now. I was on the phone and couldn't get the screen to come back on after she hung up on her end. Nothing..... I pulled the battery and put it back in and the #$%% phone reset to factory state so I lost everything. I'm and so fed up with this phone now. I am going to try and get dell to send me a new one

Just got a replacement from dell. Very happy with how well they handled this. Sticking with 1.6 for now and waiting

Glad it worked out for you, I've gone back to stock from 1.6.1 and so far seems fine.

[Q] Diagnosing instability

First a disclaimer ... actually two disclaimers ...
#1. I'm an Android noob - I had installed it onto my old AT&T Fuze and loved it and based on that bought a Dell Streak which arrived today;
#2. Within an hour of getting it, it was rooted and 2.1 O2 image installed
I love it. Faster than I can believe is possible over 3G, smooth, lovely.
Except it constantly shuts down. It seems almost every time I go to switch it on it's booting from startup again ... Dell logo ... O2 logo ... then home screen.
OK, 3 disclaimers ...
#3. I've installed a ****load of apps onto it already
Is there an application that will allow me to monitor which applications are causing the instability, or do I just have to suck it up as the cost of running something that's beta/unstable/wrong network/wrong device ... ?

have you checked the back plate is secure? when i had random shut downs it was because the backplate wasnt in place correctly. that could be the reason your having random shutdowns? the backplate is a little temperamental
I'm 99% sure it's secure ... it's flush to the device and can't see that it could possibly slide any further up.
It just shut down while I was using it ... hit the menu hard button in the XDA app ... reboot ... although this one was much faster restart.

hmmm, how odd. i dont think there is a app that will allow you to diagnose the problem. the best way would be to factory reset then reinstall one by one each app and try to find one which may be the problem
I've disabled the live wallpaper - will see how that works.

Power it up let it sit and dont run anything. Pick it up and drop it back in your hand then tap on the back plate. If it powers off then either the cover is loose or like me i actually had to mess with the two tabs on the back that senses thae cover is on. It was easy fix but took a bit to find. Thought I had a lemon for sure. I am not sure why they care if the back is on or not but it drops the unit without warning. Your problem sounds similiar to mine.
I think you guys could well be right. Last night I picked it up and dropped it about an inch onto the table and it rebooted.
So far today it seems to be behaving after I really pushed the back plate for all I was worth!
A bit of a design flaw to have it quite that sensitive I think.

You also need to remember that 2.1 is currently in Beta and is pretty buggy, that could also be causing the reboots
I'm on the 2.1 beta also, so expect the odd bug. Mine rebooted this morning after I dismissed the night clock after it had been running fine all night and the alarm woke me up fine.
Random rebooting is something I hope is fixed in final release
The back plate does become easier to fit after a bit, the first time I fitted mine I thought I was going to break something.
Not seen any random reboots on 2.1 (or none that I remember),4399 was much more prone to it.
Since giving the back cover a major push, the reboots have stopped. Kudos to flumps and martywix.
Loving this device ... why did it take me so long to discover Android?

Streak unresponsive / sluggish after phone calls

Hi all.
This has been on for several months now.
After ending calls, or mostly calls being ended, at random times, the streak would seem to be unresponsive and would be very sluggish. I would have to wait for a few minutes or to turn it off and on again for it to start functioning properly once again.
This happens with both streakdroid 1.8.1 and 1.9.0
Could it be an issue with my baseband?21
I have the same problem. I looked everywhere but I didn't find an answer. It happens to me regardless of witch version im using. Currently im using 1.9.0. I would really appreciate some help with this.
Had the same issue despite which rom I was using. Did a screen recalibration from the recovery screen and no problems since. Select it from the stock recoveey screen. One down from "apply update pkg" I think. You don't even have to touch the screen, it does it all itself. Has never been so responsive.

Thank you so much for sharing. I have re-calibrated my screen and shall report here if the screen becomes unresponsive , and the streak becomes sluggish once a phone conversation is ended. (It happens at random, so may take up some time)

I did the calibration but it didn't help:-( .
same here...so slow after calls end
I hope someone has a solution for this because its my biggest issue.
Pretty strange for sure. I dont know what rom you guys are using, but I neglected to mention that I had just finished flashing the 351 official firmware and then performed a factory reset, and then the recalibration. Not telling you to reset, just sharing my experience. Hate having to reset! It completely solved my issues though. Not a screen freeze since.

Did not work for me too
It becomes rather sluggish after some calls, where it happens at random.
About factory resets,
What i do before flashing a new rom is to do a factory reset, then enter CWM, and do a factory reset once again, clear the partition cache, dalvik cache , and finally, install the rom. This issue still persist.

I'm stumped then. Its rather weird that I had the same issues and fixed them so easily. I wish I had somerhing more to offer, but I'm just learning this stuff myself. Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in with a suggestion.
As far as the official 351 build is concerned, I'm happy with it. I'm waoting for the gingerstreak rom to get the kinks worked out and then I'm upgrading. To be honest I really liked 1.9.0 and didn't have any issues with it. But, 351 is working fine for me and I'm just not in the mood for another factory reset, reinstall everything morning right now. So it comes down to lazziness more than anything, and I'm not afraid to admit it

I had the same issue to with 1.9.0 all I can say that has been fixed on 1.9.1. Don't think Steve is going to release that version though. Just wait for a stable gingerstreak.;-)

screen recalibrate
Mine seems to get sluggish after a few weeks of use, then almost down right unresponsive after a phone call, and while on the phone call I do something else with the screen. After a screen calibration, all is well until a few weeks later, then it will do it again.
I'm just wondering...even though the streak has "Gorilla glass", I have a Zagg screen protector on it. Any chance either bare or covered glass is getting some sort of static discharge freaking out the screen?

I read an article about capacitive screens and faulty grounding. Basically stated that if there was a ground problem with the screen it wouldn't register touch appropriately. However, the symptoms were more along the lines of touch registering at an alternate place from where you are touching. Doesn't seem to be the case here. Hopefully a definitive solution can be found.

Just to share what I experienced. Don't install performance mod. It fixs the problem for me.

This may very well be the reason as i have perfmod installed.

If it is a grounding problem, I wonder if there is a common mode problem associated with a difference of potential, between the glass & the casing? The back is metal, and the case front is plastic. I use to use a defender case, but switched to a belt case that is a soft fabric material. I've heard pulling it in and out of your pants pocket could cause an issue, wonder if the case I'm using might be doing it. LOL...if you are old enough to remember curb feelers, maybe I need one of these on my pants to make sure I'm grounded
I had this problem of random freezes and sluggish from the beginning. yes full factory reset n whatnot, ts been always there. from the first couple official builds, over 1.9.0 and even now with the 254 build from dell. I think its connected to the phone module tho, I sometimes have the problem that the complete streak is unresponsive on incoming phone calls. I can see the "pick up" slider, but I cant use it for a couple of seconds, and then its a pain in the *** for a lil bit after the phone call.
-> suspects the phone implementation
I am using 354 rom n its good too....

Is my Streak a Dead Streak Walking

Trying to be funny but seriously the last couple days my streak will reboot for no reason shut down if bumped right. Im running 351 bb 2.2 stock and using launcherpro and sometimes Stage. Been working fine for a few weeks. So logically battery cover but I checked it took battery sim sd card out and reseeted everything. I have an otterbox commuter on it but took it off today thinking overheating. It takes forever to boot up when it does. Swapped batteries as well. No new programs downloaded. Kind of worried.

Mines has been randomly rebooting as well. It never does when I carry it in my belt case, but it does when I just carry it in its microfiber slip case and put it in my pants pocket.
Is it due to its battery cover being bumped or is it due to the whole device being shaken when it's inside my pants pocket?
Not really sure but this isn't good.
the bump reboot is a stock rom problem. i had the same thing when i bought my streak. also when u bend the unit it would vibrate and then after a while reboot aswel. ever since ive been on streakdroid or simplestreak, the random reboots are gone. i would only get a random reboot if i hit it really hard by accident, but even wen i drop it on the floor it doesnt reboot.. well thats my experience anyway
Well ive been on Dj Steves roms and loved 1.6.1 and 1.9.1 and just went back to stock to have things working normal again. I will go back to DJS and hopefully that works. Battery cover seems fins. Thanks for the advice.

My device is actually on Simple Streak 1.2. So, I suppose it's a battery cover issue.

Screen flickering problem

Temp fix on post 7
Hey, I've owned my phone for
about 6 months. It has been fine till about a week ago when I flashed a miui rom (Mintberry). At first, it was just occasional flickering, everyday or two for a few seconds, but now it's turned into a fair bit more.
If I don't use my phone heavily for about 3 hours, and go back to the phone, the screen has turned completely grey. When this happens, no matter what state my phone is in the screen flickers. It generally begins flickering very fast then after 5 seconds the screen is completely grey (even once rebooted).
I have dropped my phone a few times like everyone does, nothing severe or even close though. I didn't drop it then have it instantly happen.
I have since tried a few things...
Changed pixel density in rom toolbox (works once rebooted, but only till I stop using)
Changed from miui to ICS (no difference, but took an hour for it to start)
Am I looking at buying a new screen?
Edit: tried another battery, no success (didn't expect much)

I had similar issue with my phone. I do not think it has anything to do with software.. but yours is far worse thn mine.. I only had minor flickering which could only be seen sometimes and you really need to notice it with black or white background.. I tired diffrent roms it was on all of them.. I switched back to original rom.. and then got my screen replaced underwarranty... working fine since then..
OK thanks, ill give them a call today.

Had mine flickering in the same fashion. Out of warranty. Took it to a repair place and apparently it was just the screen connection was loose - thats what they told me anyway - $80 later everything worked again - probably ripped me off but im not a hardware tech so didnt want to screw with it myself
I'll have a look at a disassemble guide today, see if I can fix the cable. Thanks man, generally screen flickering is from a loose cable.

Well today I found a fix...
I accidently left my phone in the car when it was pretty hot. Seemed fine when i used it for a few minutes so i assumed it was water damage and decided to take the battery out and leave it for a while.
Came back to the phone after i had done the shopping to see if it was still working. Nope... It was noticably colder though as the car was now in the shade.
I ended up getting a heat bag and wrapping it around the phone. The screen almost immediately started working and the screen was perfect.

[Q] the daily show killed my nexus 7 !

So, here is what has happened to my Nexus 7. It worked flawlessly for a few weeks after I bought it. I installed the daily show app and it still worked fine. Went to a friends house to play cards and had the 7 in my pocket. A few hours later I pulled it out of my pocket and the screen was black with random pixels and lines flashing in random colors. I just let it sit there for about 10 minutes, then tried a re-boot. It rebooted fine but the message "Unfortunately the daily show has stopped" or something like that. It then worked ok (I removed the app) but still does the random black screen thing and sometimes shuts off when I want it to only be asleep (annoying when I use it as my morning wake up alarm). I can't believe the app itself was the problem. My guess is maybe it overheated and got damaged by running while in my pocket? I didn't have a pattern to unlock it, only the circle to slide, so I can imagine that it might have started while in my pocket somehow. Should I try and get a new nexus 7 or is there something I can do? random reboots and shut offs are not cool...
you say you had it in your pocket...did you by chance sit on it?

haha. no. I thought about that right away, however it was in my front pocket. in addition to which physically it looks the same (i.e. no obvious bends or warping on the surface)
thats odd maybe the app has caused it to over heat and that can cause data corruption. I would try to reset it back to factory or if your on a custom rom.. Restore a previous backup in cwm... If still no luck..
go all the way back by wipe and factory rom new download...
Hope you get it resolved.. Keep Your tablet out of your pocket... Get a nice purse. Giggles. well or shoulder bag..
Good job it wasn't the Jeremy Kyle show, That kills everything.
