I recently purchased a rogers galaxy tablet and immediately used kies to upgrade the firmware to gingerbread 2.3.3. I inserted my sim which has an active data plan and im getting text messages only from my service provider. Im not getting any data signal and i cant browse the internet. Worst of all i CANT ADD ANY ACCESS POINT NAME (APN). whenever i try to select the "add apn" icon it just dissapears when i press it. If i try to restore the apn settings to default it just force closes, and whenever i download an apn app from the android market im getting errors when i try to save the apn i create using the apps. I really love the sgt but im stuck using wifi tethering from my alcatel one touch. Help me please im new to the tablet and this forum. Heard it was great so hope u guys can help me
problem solved i did a factory reset (3rd time) and now im able to add apn which i did so now im surfing with my tab and lime simcard. Tommorow ill try to enable voice calls on it. Its strange i dif factory reset twice before and nothing happen.
I removed my ActiveSync Email account on Friday evening as part of a system test.
However, whenever I try to re-setup the account, at the last step in the process where it says "Activation - By activating this application ....", when I press YES, the screen shows "Checking incoming server settings" as normal for a moment, but then a popup dialog appears saying
Setup could not finish
Activation failed. Unable to
connect to network. Try again
with network provider's
default APN
[OK]
I have tried a "Factory data reset" - same result
I have tried setting up over both Vodafone network, and known good wi-fi network - same result
I have tried reflashing the firmware - same result
I did find a thread on the Galaxy S II forum that has about 10 reports of this issue happening to other people over the weekend.
Hopefully Samsung can fix this quickly, as I need my email.
In the meantime, if you need Exchange Email - I would advise not changing anything on your phone.
I have exactly the same problem on my i9100 stock ROM 2.3.5. I was thinking if it was my problem but after trying the same procedure on 3 of my colleagues i9100 all of them get the same error. Obviously there is something wrong with Samsung activation (???) server.

" Hi All,
I had already mentioned that inspite of factory reset, the problem persisted. Then how can by unistalling the profile, reboot & installing it again will work ????
"The problem has resolved only after contacting samsung service center. They took the remote screen of the mobile & asked me to setup my email & to my surprise it worked this time. It seems they have made some changes in their server which made it work though they didn't mentioned this "
Thanking all for your support
Same here - how did you resolve the issue?

And how did you fix it?
I'm having the same problem and have been trying to solve it for two weeks now!?
Greetings XDA members. I purchased my Galaxy S3 from AT&T back in July. Had no issues with data (HPSA+/4GLTE). Recently I rooted phone (no custom firmwares) for tethering purposes. Never tweaked with APN settings. Some reason my phone shows the 4G LTE symbol for connection but randomly when I go to access internet on any app I have no connection. I also dont receive any text messages (SMS or MMS). Only way around it is to send my phone into airplane mode then turn airplane mode off and I can surf fine and all my missed texts pop up all at once. I can be in exact same area and use data then randomly it stops functioning (repeat airplane mode procedure). I did research and some say it could be that sim card in the spring could have unaligned inside the phone. Tried that but to no avail. Anyone have any suggestions? Would downloading stock firmware/factory settings fix this issue? Below is details on my phone.
AT&T Samsung Galaxy S III (SGH-i747)
Android 4.0.4
Baseband I747UCLEM
Network APN: default AT&T PDA
I have unlimited data (used roughly 3.7gb) because I've tried the restorting to factory settings and google reinstalled all my apps couple times (forgot to use wifi instead of cell data). I figured maybe that was an issue that I used too much data and AT&T cuts me off. Im not sure if its the tethering app (only used once to test) did something to it. Phone worked fine for a couple weeks then randomly started cutting data out resulting in the airplane mode workaround.
Ok I've rambled enough. Final question: Is there a list that has AT&T Samsung Galaxy 3 SGH-i747 default APN settings so i can varify that mines weren't altered to cause this issue.
Thanks for reading and hopefully issue can be resolved. Thanks.

I just wanted to echo your problem. I have an AT&T S3 I747 and don't recall there being any network issues until I rooted my phone. I have unrooted, gone back to stock, and then even went back to stock ICS from JB and the network issue still seems to be there. I was curious if you found any ideas or fixes, or if anyone else has a fix or solution. I am running rooted stock Jellybean.
Im using my GS3 unroot with jelly bean 4.1.1 and dont seem to have the issue anymore. I went completely stock and I called AT&T to reset my data. Told them the issue I had (didnt mention i previously rooted) and rep reset my APN settings for my phone. I had to turn phone off for a few minutes then turned back on and all seems to work now. It still goes out sometimes but not as often since going from ics to jelly bean. Hope this helps. Dont think ill be rooting again anytime soon. Think problem started after I tried that free tethering/hotspot app for rooted users. This is messed with APN settings and caused problems.

Root by itself won't cause any issues. You used another app, in this case the tethering, which used root and messed up normal data on your phone. You can safely root just be careful what you do after that. Read, read, read.
Hey, I have a Samsung Galaxy S Duos running on the latest Android OS (ICS 4.0.4). I live in India and have an Airtel GPRS pack enabled on my number but the GPRS keeps getting disconnected every 10-15 minutes and I have to restart my phone and hope that it comes back on. The APN settings are the same as provided by Airtel. Sometimes the 'E' symbol totally disappears from the notification bar, and sometimes it doesn't download data (The arrow pointing downwards doesn't flash yellow, only the arrow pointing upwards flashes green).
I contacted Airtel and on their advice, tried inserting the same SIM in my mom's Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini and it worked fine for about 5 minutes, then I took out the SIM. How can I know for sure that the problem is with the phone and not the network? I purchased my phone in January so it's still under warranty. Should I get it checked at a Samsung service center?
Thanks.
Okay, I inserted the SIM of another company and it's working fine. Although the speed is quite low, there aren't any frequent disconnections. So how do I know if the problem is with my specific SIM or the provider?
Okay guys, I'm in a different city and the GPRS worked fine for two days but then it got disconnected again. My uncle living in the same house has an HTC mobile and the same carrier but his GPRS never gets disconnected. I cross checked the APN settings and found them to be correct.
I'm thinking of taking my mobile to a Samsung service centre and it get it checked properly. Btw my uncle's HTC runs on Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
What would you suggest?
Guys please help me with this issue...
Just got a 16.2 MB Firmware update today. Let's see if that does the trick.
I'm still having the same issue. Is this common in dual sim phones? I'm going to take it to a Samsung service center tomorrow.
I have galaxy SL i9003 running CM10 and have used airtel for a couple of months and had no issues.... it doesn't disconnect but DoCoMo does disconnect every 20-30 minutes.....

Install Tasker and configure data as always ON. Hope it helps.

Got a new SIM. Now it's working fine. Thanks for the help
Hi. I just want to say thank you to the help I've gotten from xda over the last few years.
I just bought a used galaxy s5 neo that has obviously been rooted. It boots up with Lineage logo and TWRP is installed. The problem I have is I can't get past the beginning of the phone's set up, specifically the 'checking for updates' screen. My WiFi is working correctly and my data is working but after 1 min or so I get a message to change the network because there's no connectivity with the one I'm using. It doesn't matter if I set up using wifi or my data. After searching and being told to reset the network settings or change the APN settings, I'm not sure the search engine gets my badly posed question. I can't get into the phone to change anything or even be more specific about the phone.
Is there a fix here that doesn't require super techy abilities? Thanks
