I need this files from the root of my running device (not windows folder)
mxip_lang.vol
mxip_notify.vol
mxip_system.vol
But I cant copy them!
Is there any way or tool to get them?
Try to dump the rom with This tool
but i don't know if the PE headers will be correct ...
hi TofClock,
this tool dumps only files in the Windows folder, but I need the files from the root.
This files are the databases of the system, the files in the windows folder are the templates for the first boot.
Also the content of the .dsm and .provxml files is writen to this databases (after first boot).
My idea is to use the finished database in a ROM and delete the .dsm files
i've just finished a dup with the tool , and in the "Files" , i've mxip_lang.vol , mxip_notify.vol and , mxip_system.vol
EDIT : **** , it should not work :/
Test that :
I've succefully copied , with built-in explorer :
- mxip_initdb.vol
- mxip_lang.vol
- mxip_system.vol
but i can't copy or rename mxip_notify.vol
does anyone how to edit those files (mostly mxip_lang.vol from /Storage folder) and how to replace them?
my phone always says that it is in use and i can not do anything with it
this is the last file I have to change to get my phone fully translated
With Sktools you can export metabases mxip_lang.vol into .xml files . Also SKtools has import function. But I don't understand how it is work. I tried to insert some new rows in metabase but sktools say: 0 records imported. May be anybody know how to import new record in metabase with sktools? Please, help me!
I successfully translate mxip_lang.vol !!! I used Sktools for dump this file. After that I translated all english records in to russian ( text file in unicode format). Then I have put DevPrepSP.exe utility ( with its configuration .xml file) and my .txt file in \Storage\MUI\ folder on my Qtek8310. I have started the DevPrepSP.exe and have added records in to mxip_lang.vol. It has worked!!!
My txt file has such format of records:
\MetabaseLabels
0#19#1;1049#31#Размер сист. шрифта:;
0#19#2;1049#31#Время нажатия:;
0#19#3;1049#31#Макет начального экрана:;
..................................................... ;
After a dump.bin file is extracted using the "grab_it" tool, what tool does one use to extract the dlls from that file?
i have tried using 'viewimgfs.exe dump.bin' , but recieve an "Unable to load compression DLL!" when trying to execute this utility.
strange thing is, i do see a file named "cecompr_nt.dll" in the same directory as viewimgfs.exe. What could be the issue here?
I believe you have to prepare the dump.bin first. If you say "prepare_imgfs.exe dump.bin", you will get an imgfs_raw_data.bin and imgfs_removed_data.bin. From there you can run "viewimgfs.exe imgfs_raw_data.bin" and dump the dll's. Hope this helps.
When I backed up my HD using Sprite Backup 6.5.2
I got few warnings
File could not be included: \Windows\System\SQM\Sessions\Global
File could not be included: \Windows\System\SQM\Sessions\PMWeek
File could not be included: \mxip_notify.vol
File could not be included: \mxip_swmgmt.vol
File could not be included: \cemmail.vol
When I backup it using SPB Backup 2.0.0 (I disabled stopping processes before backup) I'm getting lots of warnings like this:
Unable to read from file: "\Windows\BPSD\PictureMate_2005.bpsd"
Unable to read from file: "\Windows\BPSD\PictureMate_500.bpsd"
....
Unable to read from file: "\Windows\BPSD\Stylus_C63.bpsd"
....
lots of .bpsd files which look like they are from JetCet
My question is - what you guys use for backup and is it safe to ignore them ?
Did somebody try to hard reset and restore from backup ? Any issues ? What programs ?
Well, first of all, you shouldn't disable stopping processes before backup as you risk to get corrupt/irrelevant data. The reason why processes are stopped I think is to prevent them writing to files that are backed up, and sometimes to unlock these files. That's why you could get the "Unable to read" warnings.
Sprite warnings look more scary, as the .vol files are important system database files, and I'm not sure you'll be able to restore your device without them.

Problem is that with SPB Backup if I DO NOT stop processes - it does not start at all, allows me to choose backup directory and file name, but when STOPPING processes - crashes and asks if I want to send notes to Microsoft

Interesting. I use that version of Sprite and only get the first two warnings i.e. no *.vol warnings.

Did you try to restore using Sprite ? How was it ?
SPB: No problem
I use SPB back/up without problems.
Just use task manager to kill of unneeded processes, and disable tf3d.

Found any solution yet to this problem?
Thanks.
I'm using SPB Backup ... and I do have those warnings, but restored HD multiple times - it does work.
May be because I do not use JetSet (those files are from JetSet) ... so I do not care
Hi

I use SPB BackUp, no warnings during backup, but when I restore I get a warning "can't create directory BPSD"
The directory is inWindows directory and after restore it is still there and I have no problems running the phone.
So what is JetSet?
spb backup problems with BPSD ... but Sprite is worse!
Since I had the same problem with spb backup I googled the issue and came across an official statement:
"You are not the first user of HTC Touch HD, who contacted us with such problem. We have contacted HTC and got the answer that the files contained in the "\windows\bpsd\" folder are drivers for different Epson printers. For more information about printing from your device, please refer to the User Manual.
Also, we have done some tests and they showed that these files are not critical to the overall quality and consistency of the created backup file. So, they can be ignored for now. In future version we will fix this problem."
However, I restored several backups without any problem which was not the case with Sprite. So many errors until I finally managed to create a backup. But it was not possible to restore it. Really bad. Besides, no reply from my distributor when I reported the issue. I would never install Sprite again. With the spd issue I can live until it will be resolved in the next update.

me too. I installed Sprite-Backup on my Computer and after it found my Device HD. Since than it helps me a lot of my backups.
This Tool is an must have.
SPB Backup V2.0.0 Warnings
Thanks love2travel for the research!
Indeed it seems like they are Epson Stylus drivers. So I won't mind them... As a matter a fact I use an HP printer, so...
I'll be waiting for the next version available of SPB Backup...
Once again thank you all...
Be very careful of Sprite Backup. It doesn't backup the 'Object Store' which some third party applications such as Cash Organizer 2008 use for database storage.
Just trying to find out why this is the case with Customer Support (apparently it's a known issue acording to another thread I read).
Same error log here with SPB Backup ... but need to restore (RPMContacts problem after installed Resco Contacts Beta) and everything works fine (despite some error logs again).
That nice to hear its a common issue ... hope they'll fix it soon !!
SPB backup reports that it is unable to back up "windows\$UNINST$" file. Happens everytime, no other errors reported. When I tried to copy out the "windows\$UNINST$" file manually, windows explorer gives me an error that the file cannot be found. What actually is this file???? Does it exist at all or in ROM? Sprite Backup does not give any error message. Tried posting to SPB form whether this error would post a problem but as usual no reply after weeks.
Thanks
Hi,
I'm trying to copy a dll in windows\ folder but get access denied. I tried to find a solution by searching the forum and google but had no luck.
Any suggestions?
I doubt it would work, but you could try using sprite backup to copy everything and then find some way to open the resulting sprite backup file ! afaik it is effectively a zip file !
