Hey,
I have been playing with Android for a few months, and still not very good at it.
But one thing i noticed, regardless of the Build (think i have so far all used sd card builds, A darkstone v3, then another, now currently on CoreDroid v.8 i think). May have been another one in there.
This is my bluetooth issue.
My new Camaro and all the builds, so far, seem to work nicely kinda;
I can answer the phone from the car or phone. I can make calls, and have it routed thru the car. My bluetooth stereo, ADP2F? (or what ever it is called, for transmitting stereo via bluetooth) works fine on the car, and headsets.
The one thing i consistently notice, if there is not a constant stream of bluetooth data or packets, the car and the phone seem to disconnect. In translation, if i am listening to music etc, the connection is fine.
If i pause music, and just let driving directions transmit using navigation only, the connection probably times out and disconnects. I am forced to continually reconnect...while driving trying to navigate, makes navigation a royal pain in the A*^*.
Is there some setting to prevent time outs or disconnects? is there a patched file to load, to give me a choice to not disconnect a connection automatically?
thanks
I would also be very interested in a response to this!
I'm experiencing a very similar issue. I've also tried many different Android builds/kernels/SD/NAND and even different WINMO Roms and Radios.
Mine is a little bit worse though in that without exception, the bluetooth on the phone will 'break' after 1-2 days - meaning that it will spuriously drop a connection and will no longer function after that, i.e. will make a connection but will drop it less than 30 seconds later.
The only way I have found to fix it is to reinstall the android build.

Bluetooth works on my Vodafone HTC Magic, but it's a fiddly pain in the arse. Process seems to go something like:
1. Turn on headset
2. Headset connects for phone audio only (music still plays on phone speakers)
3. Go into bluetooth settings, disconnect headset (if it isn't stuck, in which case exit and re-enter settings, or if that doesn't work boot the phone).
4. Re-connect headset (from within settings), which now connects for phone and media audio.
5. Play music, which then often skips for half a second or so about once a minute. If it skips constantly, jump to the next track which usually solves that.
The skipping doesn't always happen, but it does seem to happen regardless of whether I'm at home, work or in a tube station, and whether I've got the phone in my pocket or held up near the headset.
The quality's not bad apart from the skipping, and usually it doesn't skip enough to be truly annoying, but it's still a little disappointing from a £350 phone and a £90 headset.
So, I had the exact same problem, and I may still have it. I have now rooted my phone and applied the sapphire 6.0 update. I'm listening to music right now and it's working fine now with no skips. Having said that, however, I found that sometimes it would work flawlessly before as well.
Anyone have another A2DP device that acts similarly? Or is the problem with the magic.
When I connect eh MM200 to my macbook-pro it sometimes refuses to respond to the button pushing and such. Not sure what exactly that indicates.

I've also rooted and updated to 6.0, still got the problem. I think to be honest it actually pauses rather than skips (I caught it pausing for ~2sec once, it's harder to tell with the shorter "skips")... it still does it when there are few other processes running, so I'm not sure what is bothering it. TBH I've not really tried it playing music without the headset to see if it happens anyway!
I've beemn messing with my phone (Magic) all day try to get the bluetooth to connect to my bluetooth usb dongle or my old phone, both of which work fine together and with everything else,
My PC can find the HTC Magic when i put it in to visable mode, but other then that it wont show up and service's for me to use with the phone,
My old phone (Samsung F700v) cant find the HTC Magic at all, altho i did manage to find the F700 on my Magic and pair them that way but still my F700 wont find it anywhere (with visable mode on,)
Am i missing somthing or does the Magic/Sapphire have a very bad Bluetooth flaw,
on a side note i've only had the phone less then a week and its not rooted, is it worth it? and is there a noob guide to the basic's eg. which version does what and what all the cons are?
Thanks
Edit:
guess i just found my answer...

Android does not support any bluetooth services other then "hands free".
This means that you can only use BT headsets.
Android (either G1 or Magic) phones cannot natively send files over BT, cannot use BT a modem, etc...
There is not third party tool so far to send files via BT to other devices.

Moved from a MT3G to the Nexus One, and I've been very disappointed by the Bluetooth.
The phone pairs fine with my Bluetooth devices, but it rarely transfers the audio. I've tested it on several devices:
Chrysler MyGig: pairs, but doesn't transfer audio. Carkit DOES show incoming and outgoing calls, but audio stays on the phone. Pressing "Bluetooth" in call doesn't do anything.
Garmin Nuvi 855T - pairs and calls work, but it regularly pops up with "phone connection error"
Spracht Bluetooth carkit - pairs, but same audio transfer issues as on the MyGig unit.
These three products worked perfectly with the MT3G, so I'm curious what Google broke and whether any of the other non-stock roms out there can make Bluetooth work correctly.
having issues myself with streaming A2DP in a 2010 VW. Phone works great but music clips almost like it's buffering. Issue doesn't exist with other phones.
My issue with bluetooth is I cant send files to my laptop anything works fine...
Don't know about your issue, but my N1 hasn't had any major BT problems. Occasionally it drops out while running with my Plantronics with A2DP, but that happened with my G1 too. File transfers are no problem for me either, and I never get disconnect problems. Stock rom was fine too with BT before I installed CM5. Maybe you have some app that's interfering with it? Try killing everything.
I have an aftermarket parrot bluetooth car kit and its worked perfectly with every phone ive ever had: sidekick 3, tmobile dash, bb curve, g1, bb 8900, mytouch. and now with the nexus it says it pairs but wont connect. so its completely useless. and i live in california so i have to have handsfree. bummer.
What annoys me most is a) how this wasn't picked up during testing by Google and b) how they managed to break something that worked perfectly on the G1 and MT3G.
It has been submitted as a bug in Google Code, but that doesn't mean they'll fix it. Sad that I have to use an iPhone just to make calls in my car when I paid $563 for the N1
my jawbone prime works great..
sometimes i have to send a file twice to my mac, but it does send, and i can send from mac back to the phone
Really? My first, and ongoing, impression of the N1's blue tooth is that it's really slick.
It pairs with my in dash NAV on my '09 Jetta TDI before I pull out of the driveway, every time. Phone calls always work and the A2DP streaming is flawless, this is the first device I've seen it actually work and play well with -- consistently .
The sound quality is BETTER than my iphone through the apple A/V cable; with the iphone I had to put an audio filter inline behind the dash to suppress engine noise caused by a ground loop. I'm considering removing it now since blue tooth A2DP streaming would obviously be immune to this problem.
I couldn't be happier, personally. I can control playlists from the stereo head unit or the steering wheel while the N1 is in my pocket. It's been very reliable and has performed beyond my expectations... not to mention the "wow factor" when somebody realizes where the tunes in the car are coming from.
For me, the blue tooth performance has been an unexpected bonus... It wasn't a consideration when purchasing the phone but now I feel it's become a "must have" feature.
- Honda Car Kit
- Philips SHB7100
- Gear4 BlackBox
- two Desktop Docks
are working fine.
"Audio Link" sometimes has "clipping".
Pairs fine with my Garmin Nuvi 265WT, however ALWAYS drops a call around the 5 min mark. My G1 did the same thing with my Garmin Nuvi 680.
My N1 won't work with my 08 Nissan Xterra. Pairs just fine but won't transfer audio. This worked fine with my Samsung Blast, G1 and Cliq.
There is a thread about this on the google nexus one help forum but unfortunately I'm not allowed to post external links. I'd recommend voicing your problem over there to let google know this is a widespread issue.
I have problems with my BMW Bluetooth car kit. It connects, phonebook transfers, try and make a phone call and I get no sound. Receivers phone rings but no sound in the car. Once the phone call is cut the Bluetooth disconnect and won't connect until the car Bluetooth is turn off and on.
The Bluetooth on my old iPhone worked perfect every time. I thought Bluetooth had standards and should work with any device if it supports the profile.
How hard is it, especially for a company like Google to get it to work.
My Lexus bluetooth pairs perfectly every time, and usually the call will last a couple minutes before I suddenly get no audio going to the car, or the car may say "check handset". At that point, I have to click the Bluetooth button on the phone to switch to the handset. If I restart the phone it usually works fine for a while, then this happens again. I never had a problem with 3 other phones in this car.

I've got a BMW with a bluetooth kit and have similar issues.
The way I've overcome it is to always keep the bluetooth in the car "on" and on the Nexus "off".
When I get in my car with the key fob in the ignition, enable the nexus one bluetooth and it works.
It's a pain to enable/disable the bluetooth on the handset but it works until there's a proper fix for it.
Also i recently got Modaco's Desire Rom on the handset and found the above procedure works without fail.
One other thing I noticed since having the Modaco Desire ROM is that when you're in a bluetooth call all phone audio comes from the car speakers.
Never used to happen with the stock nexus rom or my previous Touch HD.
It's cool but would be great if there was a way to enable the bluetooth audio so phone sounds came through the car speakers without making a call.

I have a very similar issues with my Nexus One and my Lexus IS350. It pairs OK. But if I make a call, the cars display flashes "check handset" and then puts the call through. I can hear the other end, but they can't hear me.
This is a "deal breaker". Guess I'll be sending my Nexus One back for a refund.
I have been unable to use bluetooth to transfer files OR to tether.
I paired it with my MotoRokr speakerphone, and it paired fine, but I didn't use it to see if it actually works.
Regardless, there are obvious issues with the BT that need straightened out.

how did you that?? i have a 2009 vw
My Nexus one will pair with my computer, but it won't send or receive a file. It won't even go to the trouble of discovering my jawbone earpiece. I'm really disappointed since this should be the simplest of tasks that such a wonderful phone should accomplish. I thought it was just my phone, but seeing this thread makes me sad that that nothing has been done and hopeful that it's more than just my phone and, therefore, there's the possibility it will be addressed in one form or another.
Ok, I played around some more tonight with bluetooth.
It works with my Motorokr speakerphone great. I can talk, make calls, etc... works well.
I got the bluetooth tether working too.
I still have not been able to get file transfers working though. They look like they send, the phone thinks it sent successfully, but the computer says the transfer was interrupted. I'm not as concerned about the file transfer as I was about getting the tether working.
paired the nexus one to my '09 Nissan GTR ... works perfectly fine ... everything works as it should, calls come in perfectly each and everytime ... i do however, leave my BT running 24/7 on both the car and phone
unfortunately when i connect bluetooth to my car radio the music skips about every 15 sec. very annoying. Anyone else having the problem.
I have an iphone 3gs that doesnt skip and works great. I love the Evo but bugs are continually showing up.
Its your internet. Try updating your prl.
i did update the prl before i tried it.
still does it.
I have a bluetooth reciever for my AVR and I noticed some skipping as well. Not as frequent as you are saying but if I moved more than 10' away it would be rather bad. The Bluetooth range seems to be poor. In a car I can't imagine you having a problem. I have heard of some issues with factory bluetooth.
I had same problem till I decided to turn off my wifi.. and it started working fine.. it just doesn't have to do with Pandora, its will any Music that you stream over Bluetooth..
Just turn off your wifi and it will work fine.
Thanks
Or just place your phone somewhere else in your car. Bluetooth has very lousy range (isn't it like 10 feet in perfect conditions?), and as such moving it a foot or two somewhere else could make a world of difference.
Its definitely not the internet. I could be at home in wifi with phenominal internet it even laying it off of my SD card. If im in a vehicle or on a bus, its pretty solid and works really well. I walk out the bus and walk around either to m next bus or to work and it fails to play for more than 4 seconds without skipping. And its not like a short, nuisance of a skip. It often stays skipped for up to 3 seconds at a time. Completely unusable. Happens however i connect my phone to any a2dp device. Tried tweaking the /etc/Bluetooth/audio.conference file as suggested in a couple nexus one/s sites, but unfortunately seems to be specific to those phones. This is making me hate this phone. Every other phone I've had in the past two years does this just fine. Whyis it having such a hard time with such a simple task that others have done perfectly? Even other Roms work better but i like also better than sense anyday. Maybe its a kernel issue?. I really want this fixed. But it seems like no one is even trying to work towards a solution. Not on the surface anyway.
Did you try turning off your wifi and any other unneeded services? The only time I have had skipping over bluetooth is when I have my wifi on as well, other than that it streams smoothly through my car stero and computer over bluetooth.

This.
If that doesn't help, then if possible, you should use an aux in cable to prove it's only a bluetooth issue. If it still skips, I'd try a new rom and/or kernel. A2DP performance seems much improved in CM7 compared to Sense roms.. or at least it seems better to me.
I've had the same skipping problem with my bluetooth earphones and evo. The only slight solution that I've had was holding the phone in direct line of site with the bluetooth earphones. When I do that, it doesn't skip as much.
Streaming bluetooth audio to car stereo
Thanks Anku13, your fix works. Just installed a Clarion CZ501 bluetooth receiver in my car, experienced skipping audio every 15 - 30 seconds once my Leo connected/streaming. Killing WiFi was the trick. Love not having an AUX cable lying around in the cabin.
I'm using Plantronics 590A bluetooth stereo headset with my fairly new Galaxy Tab. When I listen to music, it will play for several seconds (sometimes a minute or so, but usually much less), then it will cut out with no sound for a second or two or three, then start playing again.
I would suspect a problem the Tab, except that this is the second one, and of a different variety (the first was Verizon, which I returned due to lack of SIM and got AT&Ts). Both showed similar symptoms. The headset *never* cuts out on phone conversations (AT&T Tilt2, HTC Aria), and it's rock solid when I attach the bluetooth adapter to the G-Tab's audio out.
I had suspected things like "Wifi notify me when a network is nearby," and the like, but this will occur even if *all* network devices are disabled (except BT of course).
I have several apps from the market and the device is rooted via SuperOneClick, but otherwise it's a fairly standard installation.
Is this a common problem? What suggestions do you have for troubleshooting/resolution?
Thanks!
I have my creative WP300 stereo connected via Bluetooth to stream music. it appears that the bluetooth connection kept dropping every a few hours of use. I had no problem with the same headset on my Sprint GS2 (Epic 4G touch). Just curious if there is anyone experiencing similar thing? Do I have a defected device? Thanks,
I have my GS4 paired to my Kenwood DNX9960 headunit in my truck and every time I get in my truck, only the "Use for phone audio" is checked, not the "Use for media audio". I have to open up BT settings on the phone and check the media check box and it connects right away. This is so annoying, it should just connect both profiles automatically.
the media portion of auto connect is determined by the music app.... i use power amp and have no issues with it auto connecting, but with the stock player no luck.

I too have upgraded from the GS2 and I have experienced drops with Both of my New Devices (2 S4's). I have a Dual XML8150 Head Unit in my vehicle. Neither of them Auto Connect. Sometimes the music will play for the duration of my travels, However most of the time it drops the audio in a few minutes (less than a song few minutes), however the 2 devices are still communicating (meaning I can play/pause basically). I do not use it for phone calls so I can't report how it works on those. A few times yesterday it would happen almost immediately, and one headset wouldn't even play audio from the onset (although I could still communicate (Play/Pause). Once I would disconnect from Bluetooth, the audio was confirmed playing on the headset. I have not tested this problem out with my Plantronics BB903+ headphones, but will today.
So a final note to wrap it up. I'm at my 14 days. Even though Im only rooted with TWRP, I'm doing the full reset on both devices and i'm going to test it out today flat stock. In addition to the Bluetooth antenna/radio, None of the Antennas (surprise, surprise Samsung) on this phone seem to be very strong. It seems that one likes to connect to 4g more than the other. Same place, same tower ones stuck on 3g and one on 4g (according to RF signal tracker). Even a data off/on doesn't seem to force it over and im sick of seeing the "can not establish a data connection" popping up in the middle of doing anything. I can't forget to mention the Dropped calls, probably more in 2 weeks than in several years. I had an S2 since the first month it was out (Typical Lame GPS, and crazy menu key was about it) I briefly used an S3 (Asurion Claim), and the troubles I had with my S2 were gone with the wind, so I figured the S4's have to be even better....Well, any troubles today, and I'll let you know what happens at the sprint store tonight.
