Hi,
I flashed my phone to the 1.61 from 1.43, and suffer huge slowdowns at times.
It seems to be when the device is woken up & unlocked, the lock screen remains, and Sense / apps perform extremely slowly. I'm forced to reset to fix the problem.
Just out of curiosity (before I 'downgrade' to 1.48), anybody else had the same problems?
Many thanks,
Daniel.
ever tried clearing the caches out (opera etc)
161 is fine for me..
+ 1 for me too. No problem with slowdown. I clean regurarly using SK Tools.
Cheers guys, I'll try SK Tools out.

did you hard-reset after flash?
Should you always do a hard reset after a flash? Didn't know it was needed. I had assumed a flash was effectively the same as a hard-reset!
The flash only rewrites the ROM! It does NOT erase the "c:"
It is like to install a new os without formating the partition first! All files left by the previous build are still there and this may cause issues!

If you flash with the stock RUU, it does a hard reset for you. If you use the "customRUU" it doesn't do a hard reset.

Oh! so whenever we flash a new *official* ROM, we do not need to do a hard reset?

whenever you flash using the exe direct from htc you don't need to hard reset.
when you flash using sd card or using the custom ruu then you ned to manually hard reset
But regarding the slow down, yes I have the problem and I think its related to all the syncing with email/facebook/weather/etc... If you are on a G reception then it will take longer to download these updates, and if you have power saving option enabled then it will do this after the device "awakes" as it won't do it as well in Standby as it is power saving.
I've used BSB Tweaks and disabled the option which seemed to work for me

Cheers for your reply - so you disabled the power saving option? What effect does this have on battery life?
Dan.
Everytime I try to run setcpu i select the hero option since Eris is not listed then it just takes me to a black screen and force closes. So I did the auto detect and it does the same thing force close. Can someone please help me? My friend rooted my phone so I know very little so please be specific!
Thank You
ok, first off you might want to uninstall setcpu to get rid of any previous settings you have. then reinstall it and follow these instructions from a previous post
1. Install SetCPU, if you haven't already. It's available here on XDA for free and for $0.99 on the Market.
2. In SetCPU, choose the "HTC Hero/Tattoo [MSM7k Turbo]" option from the device selection menu. The CPU will happily ignore you, but setting it to this means that you won't enter a reboot loop after patching when SetCPU starts and overclocks your CPU entirely too much.
3. Make sure the "Set on Boot" option is unchecked, until you're absolutely certain that the settings you've got won't freeze your phone. Also, turn off profiles.
4. Flash the latest kernel-overclock-update-v*.zip below, using your favorite method, and boot your phone. Note that this kernel update will not overclock your phone until SetCPU tells it to -- the default policy is 245.76MHz min, 528MHz max, ondemand.
5. Start SetCPU, hit menu, and go to device selection. This time, select "Autodetect Settings". Change the governor to "performance" (which means it will always use the highest frequency in the range), and start incrementing the max up from 528MHz, one step at a time, releasing your finger each step (SetCPU applies the change when you let go of the slider), until your phone freezes.
6. Remember the bit about not checking the "Set at Boot" option? This is why. Reboot your phone (this will probably involve pulling the battery, if the phone didn't reboot on its own), and start SetCPU again. SetCPU very nicely shows you the last settings you saved, but does not apply them, which is nice because those settings will lock your phone. Lower the max setting to something that won't lock your phone, put the governor back to "ondemand", and set up profiles how you like.
after you have done all of this you can then have set at boot checked

No idea how to do that or what rom to pick. My frined literally did everything yesterday I sat there and played xbox lol.
so you really have no idea what was done to your phone?? and the roms are simple to install, look at the different rom threads, see which one you think you might like and follow the instructions on installing them. make sure you do a nand backup before you install them though. instructions for all of this can be found in this forum

first download a good ROM like Ivan's Eris_Official 1.0, unless you already have (it's a .zip file).
Put that on your SD card (do you know how to do this? if not, then stop here, and ask, otherwise go to the next step).
Turn off your phone. Hold the VOLUME UP botton while powering it back on. It will boot into Recovery. Go to Backup/Restore. do a 'nand backup' of your phone. It takes 2 minutes or so.
Then use VOL DOWN to go to the last menu (it tells you at the top to do this). Then go to Wipe and then select Factory/data reset. Then also from that menu choose Wipe Dalvik Cache.
Then press VOL DOWN to go to the last menu (it tells you at the top to do this). Then select 'Flash Zip from SD Card'. Select the .zip file you downloaded (Eris_Official_1.0OC.zip or whatever it's called). (It'll take five minutes to flash).
Then Reboot the phone (this will take 5-10 minutes, don't worry how long it takes. Any time you wipe dalvik cache, this will happen. it's supposed to).
Your phone will start up brand new.
If you've gotten this far, then you probably want to flash that kernel you have, Zanfur's overclock kernel. That one's a little better than what comes with Ivan's Eris_Official. If you get this far, then come back and post again.

BIG THANKS TO TCP! and all the others that posted help.
Samsung galaxy s 2 phone restarting 3 times on its own sitting on the desk without any apps in background or anything like that. The phone is not rooted and it has all the updates. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Alex
Thats one of androids many features' all of my android devices has that problem.
Haven't had a single reboot on mine. Think I had 150 hours uptime before I flashed the KE1 update.
Maybe time for a cache wipe in recovery or if that doesn't work try factory reset.

Can you get a dmesg of this happening, or last_kmsg if enabled in kernel?
Cant get the last_kmsg because the phone isn't rooted, now it crash every time i start an application other then browser or the dialer, contacts...
Could you please explain how to enable last_kmsg in kernel or is there any way to get the dmesg without rooting the phone?

nah... in clockworkmod recovery, on the main menu there is an option to wipe cache partition. wipe that then go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache. after that, still in advanced menu, select fix permissions then reboot to see if that fixes it

having never flashed RoyalGinger, I wish I had an answer for you....but unfortunately I dont. have you tried reading through the ROM's thread to see if anyone else has had the same problems as you did? also, is your phone still acting up?
I read an article online (No I don't remember where) about how the amount of viruses are increasing for the mobile platform. It's also possible you got a bad download, where even if you wiped everything and reflashed you'd end up with the same "bat****" goin on. I've had RoyalGinger since testing and never had any issues like the one your describing, if you could pull a logcat so we can see what's happening then I'm sure we could help you better. To pull a logcat you can use either adb or an app on the market called "alogcat", it can save the logcat as a .txt file if you ask it to. Be careful when posting due to the fact that a logcat records EVERYTHING and trying to get through all of that to find the error is a real pain. Last but not least if you find a solution post up the issue and your solution to the roms thread so the developer (TeamRoyal) can be made aware.
Well i posted the problem on the roms thread to see if anyone else had the problem and i took it by it getting steam rolled right over that the answer was no since no one replied to it . and at the time the problem had manifested itself i hadnt downloaded anything and since i havnt been on a signifigantly long phone call since yesterday im not sure if its fixed allthough the short call i was on it didnt happen after wiping devick and fixing permissions HOWEVER when i turned the wifi on to download and app from the market the damn clock app started popping up again... im bout to remove that app and see what happens .... ill install a market alarm clock app and see if that fixes
I am running NEXUSHD2 v2.7 and Int2ext± with the "Disable CPU rendering" mod but whenever I try to wipe cache and dalvick wipe, I get a bootloop. any idea? I am trying to add things to the build.prop and need to wipe before actual use, but as seen, I cannot :/
I made this thread before but I think it got deleted
Sent from space..
I think I've read somewhere that if you have an A2sd script such as the one you're using, you should not wipe dalvik. Which may cause a bootloop. but Im not sure, that may not be it.
Try to edit build.prop then restart normally, without wiping, sometimes things just tend to work .
