Since the latest OTA update the current location on the weather app is stuck on one location. Even if I'm in London it will show Basingtoke. It updates for a moment and then reverts back to the old location. Anyone else finding this? Has a fix been worked out?
Thanks
Have same issue.
I can't imagine this is anything to do with hardware, though if its software related surely everyone would have it?
Have you checked yours? go on.. ave a look

Same problem here. Besides that, after the new OTA, Locations widget never shows that cup of coffe? wich indicates my possition on the widget, I have to tap the widget (wich, by the way, updates forever) to see the map and my position. My only hope is that the future Gingerbread update will fix that since HTC won't release another update soon.
Has EVERYONE with the new update this issue?
Or are there some users with the new ota update which DON'T have this issue?
Did a factory reset helped to get rid of the issue?
Mine is with the new OTA update. HTC said my phone needed to be sent back to them to be flashed to the previous firmware. Stuff that! i flashed it again myself and the problem remains. must be a bug in the new firmware?
I suspect that this new firmware has some nasty bugs and I think that's not HTC's fault. I belive this is an Android problem because in the last week I saw many complains regarding similar problems from people with various devices (Droid, Nexus, Galaxy etc). What makes me wonder is why HTC continues to roll this OTA since they've got so many complains about it
Guys
If it is of any use to you, I had the same problems, with it losing my correct location in the Weather screen. I reinstalled 'Location' under settings, and all was fixed. Where previously it had just listed 'Current Location' in the Weather screen, it now locates the phone properly, with my current town
I have never had this problem after the update.

I just re-installed and rebooted and still not working. I've instead installed Fancy Widget 1.3.0 which looks identical. HTC banned this from the market because it looks to similar to thier widget. At least Fancy Widget works!
Me neither, i don't have this issue after OTA (but I have the sms one...)
If you go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All > HTC Weather Sync Provider and click "clear data" it resolves the issue.
Just seems to have got stuck due to the update (for some people)

Can someone who had this issue confirm that this solves it?
I had the issue and it resolved it for me, but I havent changed location since I did this so I'm not sure if it will just get stuck in my current location when I go elsewhere
Sorry. Doesn't work. Changed location and its stuck again

Tried that, it got rid of my holiday location and has now replaced it with London. However the clock widget shows Poplar (which is more accurate) and when pressing on the weather widget, it first shows Poplar (Current) and then it updates and switches to London (Current).
I'll see if it ever changes from London tomorrow.
Cheers for the suggestion, at least it got rid of my holiday destination.
can people confirm if clearing the "HTC Weather Sync " solves this issue ?
It did work in my case. Everything is back to normal now.
I reset mine as you suggested today. Now I'm in another town its displaying the location I was in earlier today. Seems you have to reset overtime you move location.
I did a factory reset the problem still there. also if you delete the data only update once after you go to another town you have to do it again.

Hi all.
Ever since updating to the new ROM (Orange UK) I have been getting the com.htc.provider error message. Everyone is saying that this is because of Peep and Twitter but it is causing another problem for me: The weather on the clock widget is no longer showing. It displays the name of where I am but that is it. Around 10% of the time the weather is there but 90% it isn't.
I have tried wiping (factory reseting) the phone and re-installing the ROM but this doesn't help.
Any suggestions?
Cheers.
I am Having the exact same problem with the weather since the update, but if i just choose the weather by itself, then that will update.
Yep, that's the problem alright.
Glad I am not the only one but I would prefer it if it wasn't happening at all!
I logged out of Peep and the problem as described disappeared....might be a coincidence however!
I am also seeing an issue sometimes with the HTC Weather widget not updating as regularly as before. With the v1 firmware it would update a few seconds after I moved to the Home screen it lives on, now it takes ages or does not update at all. You have to go to the Weather app and manually initiate an update.
Just (now) checked the widget and it updated immediately
I think the newest firmware (may be Orange related only) updates at longer intervals than with the 1st release.
A pain and IMHO as the weather in certain places can change quickly, and not how it should work.
I hope HTC don't think the v2 firmware is the final one they need to release.
BTW, not logged into Twitter via Settings but use Twidroid and log in via this.
Not had the .provider error message at all.
Well the weather bug on home screen happens because of the com.htc.provider error.
And since the com.htc.provider error comes from the Peep application and not Twitter you need to not use Peep until HTC releases an update.
A fast way to get the weather to work again is if you have saved your scene. then you just need to change to the normal HTC Scene and then back to your own again.
And regarding the latest release it will probably only be one of many since already in October it is rumored that the next firmware which will probably be a build of Donut will be released.
I've had that problem since I've had it, about 2 months, Done factory reset twice. And it cures it for about 10 minutes, then just name of homebase, and no weather.
I Had the same problem after the update. I deleted the clock from the homescreen, reinstalled the HTC Clock widget and it works fine now. Hope that helps.....
is there a way to manually set the weather so that it shows under the clock??
i mean i m not connected to GPPRS or 3G all the time..so can i just make it show manually?? without being online??
I've had this problem almost since day one. It's a G2 on stock T-Mobile ROM.
No weather data under clock and if I manually update it just says 'no data available'.

Yep, same as me, apart from when it was brand new, worked for about half hour, then 'no data available' for my home base in 2months, and deleting and installing new widget makes no difference as worked for some others
I've been getting the no data available problem as well.
What I've found is that using 'current' as the location sometimes gives this for my location (Leicester) however, if I add Leicester as an actual location and choose this as the one to display, then it seems ok.
There's obviously a bug of some sort that results in Leicester current having no data when Leicester actually selected does.
Also, when I add the clock widget, no matter what city I choose to display, it always displays the one which is top on the sort order. I get round that by sticking my local one at the top...
Not sure if that is exactly the same as what you guys are experiancing...

Currently there is no answer for this. Simply add your location manually and select that for the clock location. I'm doing that and have never had an issue with the fact that "my location" is in the list.

I've never tried to remove it myself, so I can't be sure, but you could just disable and re-enable Sense in the Today settings. That should do the trick.
just wanted to share an experience i have had
i was having the same problem with the "my location" updating since i updated to the 1.6 WWE ROM
what i discovered is, when i go to central london, it works, but when i am in north london it doesnt - now for those that know london, you will recognise the town Camden - well when in central london it picks up place name Camden
i think the problem might be to do with the device being unable to recognise where you are - if i find it i will post the link to a thread i read last night (1:23am lol) that said it was possible to add custom locations to the weather widget and this might very well resolve the errors with getting weather at these locations, but i have made no changes to any settings neither felt the need to remove "my location" and it works fine suddenly

There have been a few threads on this problem - none of them have come up with a full solution as yet, though some 'workarounds' are available.
The situation you describe is typical though. Another poster described exactly the same situation for four different parts of London - 2 working - 2 not!
I did a little bit of analysis and research and I do not think the problem lies (in the main) with the phone not being able to recognise where it is. Most posters say the 'my location' in GoogleMaps works fine!
I think the problem is one of 'translation'. The location code used by GoogleMaps is a different format to the one used to query AccuWeather when you manually select a town/city on the Weather page.
Somewhere along the line, the one has to be 'translated into the other. I THINK (and I stress that deliberately), that this translation works for certain locations and not for others.
If someone actually KNOWS how this translation works (and who 'owns' the 'translation' process), I would be very interested to hear about it.

how do you do this? (add location manually). my 'add location' is greyed out. i'm not using a data plan, but using wi-fi to update the weather.
thanks
update: i figured out what was going on. the app only allows 12 cities. once you're 'full' the 'add location' greys out. and the '+add city' disappears.
Hi all
I'm loving the sense clock widget with weather but I have an annoying problem with it; in my home location I don't get any weather information. If I add the exact same location (same capitalisation, spelling etc) manually and set the widget to use that location it works fine and if I leave it on "current location" I start getting weather updates as soon as I leave my local area.
I started pulling some of the APKs with weather in the name from the phone and tried to look at the xmls to see if there was something I could tweak to get it working but the files seem to be in some sort of binary encoding that I can't open, so I'm stuck already.
Anyone able to suggest what to try next to get this working properly?

I think it had something to do with your provider settings. When I got the Desire I still had my old provider (KPN). I also had this "current locations weather bug" after two weeks I switched over to Vodafone, updated the APN settings, and everything is ok! Hope this helps you a little!

TThanks for this, tried resaving apn details but no change, so annoying that it work everywhere but at home!
I've emailed HTC support about it, got this reply:
Dear Leszek, Thank you for contacting us in regards to weather updates, I can help you with that. The location service for weather updates is based on information from your cell provider and relies on the masts in your area being enabled for this service. If you are in a 3g area disabling this from settings, wireless controls, mobile networks and then updating may help. I trust that this resolves your query, please do not hesitate to contact us again if required. Thank you for contacting HTC. Best regards, Mike B HTC

to which I replied
Dear Mike, I do not believe that the problem is with the location service -- as I said, my current location is correctly given as "Cambridge (Current)". Nonetheless, I tried disabling the mobile network, and indeed have now tried all combinations of disabling/enabling the mobile network, wireless and gps, none of which worked. Is there a way to see exactly what weather data the device is requesting? I know I had trouble on a previous phone, which was requesting data for "Cambridge, Cambridge" instead of "Cambridge, UK".

Still waiting for a reply to that one -- it's been a week though, so it's becoming unlikely that they'll actually reply with a real solution.

This is what I have done as a work around but I would like to use the location aware one as it's cool to have the local weather when I commute to work (40miles away), was hoping we could hack the app to make it work better as it doesn't look like HTC are going to finish. I guess I need to dust off my Java skills and start reading about JF's decompiler.
I have the same issue and find it very annoying!
I installed "Beautiful Widgets" and set that up to show the clock with weather set to be location based and it works fine (unfortunately it's not quite as beautiful as the HTC widget!).
Surely this proves that the bug is with the HTC widget and not anything provider based? Anyone else fancy trying to see if Beautiful widgets works when the HTC widget doesn't?
Similarly, the weathernetwork widget works fine for my location whereas the HTC one doesn't
I've got a problem that's not related to GPS but locations. When I'm at home, the weather widget says my location is Sweden, however, Google Maps finds almost my exact location (two streets away or so). If I take a one km walk it finds the location and says Stockholm. I tried re-installing the locations software with no luck. Maybe my phone doesn't like my flat? :S

If you read what I actually said I clearly state that it's a problem with the weather widget (which naturally does display weather)
I have a different, but frustrating issue:
On the clock widget where you also can see your location and the weather:
I live in a town called Geldrop in the Netherlands, which always showed on the clock widget, including the weather corresponding to this town.
Now since a couple of days (do not know when exactly)...it just says: 'current location'...when I select the widget, bring it to the left bottom on the homescreen to edit it, I cannot select Geldrop anymore, it says it does not exist.....
My girlfriend has a DHD as well, and hers still says Geldrop.
Now, I do have flashed Leedroid, kernels etc, etc, so I am not sure if that has anything to do with it...but is anyone able to point me in the direction of the solution?

The problem I'm experiencing only seems to appear when I'm in Stockholm, nowhere else.
I had the same problem with it saying "Current Location" before too, both on the DHD and my old WM. It solved itself eventually. However, the reason Geldrop doesn't "exist" is because it's not added in the built in database that comes from HTC. Because of this, you'll only see Geldrop when it's your current location since it gets the name of the location via AGPS and then looks it up on Acuweather.com. There's a program to edit the database for WM which I used to add Opitter in Belgium with, but I don't know if there's one for Android.

Yes, but the fact that your girlfriends phone finds the location while yours doesn't is very strange since it's the same device. I will report this tomorrow.
Another thing that's strange is the weather animation for fog. On the weather tab it says FOG with black letters all over the animation while this text is not visible on the clock widget. I asked HTC about this and they said it's all as it should be. Seems strange to me though.

Okey, so I mailed HTC today and they told me to remove the ip for the Proxy and port from the API, which seemed a bit strange to me, and to my disappointment it only made it worse by saying "Connection failed". Yey!
I am having the exact same problem, my original htc weather widget shows only "Sweden". This happened since the upgrade to 2.2.
I'm pretty sure the weather information is correct though. Since I've compared it to other weather apps and widgets. I've switched to beautiful widgets temporarily (well for a couple of months now), and there it shows even the parts of stockholm if I move around. Right now it's showing Fruängen which is correct.
I remember reading about some problem with the htc weather widget long ago on the modaco forums when 2.2 came. I don't think it's fixed yet (at least from HTCs side).

Yeah. That was my argument too when I spoke to HTC, but they said it's Googles fault even though Google maps finds my location correctly. They didn't accept it as their fault and therefore they didn't even file a report about it to the developers.

I've got a similar problem with weather widget and location too...
I went to a small village for Christmas and since this time, my location in the widget is locked at this village.
When I open the weather app, I can see my good location very quickly, but after the refresh the location returns to the bad village.
And my location in google maps or in google’s website is good...
I have the same problem I have to delete all data for weather and clock and update it again. anyone have any idea why this happen?

Hi,
I'm an Android noob. I recently picked up a Fascinate 3G+ from Telus (T959D) and noticed that the GPS wasn't working at all; could never get a lock. I just upgraded to Gingerbread this morning hoping that the update would resolve the issue, and it did momentarily, but now the GPS is worthless again (no lock at all).
Searching the web, I find a lot of "fixes", but they all seem to relate to Froyo. I haven't seen anything specific for Gingerbread releases.
I tried to update the AGPS configurations (as per several threads indicated) by dialing *#*#1472365#*#* , but as soon as I enter the final *, the number gets wiped out and nothing happens (just remains at the dialer with a blank entry). I don't know if this is because it is a Telus Fascinate and not a Vibrant/Captivate/etc, or if it is because of Gingerbread.
Either way, does anyone know or have any suggestions on how to fix the GPS under Gingerbread? I love the phone, but this GPS issue is driving me nuts.
Thanks,
Eric
It's universally accepted that the stock SGS phones have terrible GPS. I've had trouble in the past accessing the LbsTestMode (GPS Settings menu) on my phone due to differing phone codes and whatnot.
You can try downloading some apps from the market that bypass the dialer and just runs the service directly (SGS Tools for example)
I personally use Launcher Pro as my home replacement for Touchwiz, and using that I can create a shortcut directly to the GPS settings.
Here's a guide outlining how to get to it:
http://www.gmachine.net/tech/1-click-gps-settings-with-launcher-pro-activities/
The custom rom I use does not have the lbstest service though so I can't verify
You can also access some of the gps settings by going to /etc/gps.conf from your phone's root directory.
I don't know if this will help but my GPS takes forever to aquire location. I found an app called gpsfix run that then run navigation and it should work.

Some roms claim to do so, and some users will swear by it. However, there's no concrete evidence of it being the case, unless the rom directly tinkers with your GPS settings (something anyone can do manually)

Had this too on stock. I'm on a custom rom right now, but no GPS Status app to confirm. I'd put my GPS reliability around 65% (with AGPS)
edit: Sometimes, my GPS would act dead no matter how long it sits. A hard reboot usually does the trick, but not always

Gingerbread install must have set the default home launcher to the default touchwiz launcher. You can try going to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > All and find TwLauncher. Under "Launch by default" click the [Clear defaults] buton and then push your Home button. It should let you choose between Launcher Pro and Tocuhwiz.
However, you can still add Launcher Pro shortcuts by long-pressing anywhere on your home screen even if you're not using Launcher Pro as your home launcher.

That guide requires you to tinker with the GPS settings which, in your orignal post, suggests you were not able to access. After you're able to access the (angry)gps settings (via an app or launcher pro), you can follow the guide. It's a one-time fix, no app will be running in the background.
