[Q] ERI file for Sprint Vogue, *poof* it dissappeared! - Touch CDMA General

When I went and flashed back to Coke .40 (to unlock GPS after letting Verizon customizations run), then a stock 2.x series radio rom for my Sprint Vogue (that I normally run on Verizon), the ERI disappeared! Its completely gone from the system. I look at the system information, and ERI reads "version 0," and when I browse to my /ERI folder, it is empty.
The phone seems to work fine, but I cannot program it via *228 because the ERI is gone! lol
My request is this, can someone with a Sprint Vogue please ##DIAG# and browse to /ERI with Bitpim/QPST and dump the file in ERI and post it here, rared. Trying to manually upload it is my last resort. I tired uploading a Verizon ERI and even a Bell ERI, but the file has different names on each carrier (which I think may be way they won't work).
Unless someone else has ran into this issue (and I've dug on google for the last week finding nothing), I really don't know what else to try. I'm praying that just dumping a stock Sprint ERI will make the phone work like it used to.
And yes, I am 100% sure it is gone, the folder is empty!

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377514
Wouldn't you be able to re-flash from the original Sprint RUU update exe file?
Doesn't that restore the vogue to factory?
Or is this a special file that can't be recovered?
If you can PM me on how to recover that ERI via BitPIM or QPST, let me know.
I still have another family member using a Vogue on Sprint service.

see, flashing the original ROM is what got me into this mess in the first place. Even if one of the old factory ROMS has an ERI update, I prob can't use them because the run during the customeization phase, and all the instructions for unlocking a borked Verizon GPS (i converted this phone to verizon) say to not let customizations run. Perhaps I should let the Sprint Customizations run on the GPS ROM?
As for the eri file it's self, gettint to it is pretty easy. Type ##daig#, find the com port that your phone is on in device manager. Open bitpim and for phone settings choose "other" and then select the com port of you Vogue. Then go to view and select "file system". After that you can browse the file system and the ERI is in the /ERI directory. Right click the file (whatever its name might be) and choose to extract it somewhere. Then zip/rar it.
If you could do that for me it'd be awesome. I've been trying to get NuAngel to do it for me, but he's been busy.

Hmmm...
I don't see an ERI on mine either?
Does that get deleted when you flash it to Android maybe?
Only thing I have not tried is re-flashing the original RUU file from Sprint.
I will try that when I get home and see what I can find.

strange. in my device settings, ERI is being reported as verison 0... perhaps I just need to let Sprint customizations run... I need to find my Vouge, I have no clue where I put it last.

Sprint PRL Update 20225 CAB (PRL Manual Update Hack)

I have only tested this on an HTC Apache with AKU 2.2... Should work for all Apaches though at least.
Original Post found at: http://ppcgeeks.com/sprint-prl-update-20225-cab-prl-manual-update-hack-t1868.html
Original Message:
Well after I nuked my phone to the AKU 2.2 (I doubt this is related) my phone went back to PRL 20224. Well that and I lost my MSL (again). I was sick of calling and dealing with customer service, so I cam up with this hack.
Instructions:
1. Download and Install to the Device (its 280kb, but technically you already have this installed).
2. After the install browse to \Windows and find PPST.exe
3. Run PPST.exe and wait (not sure how long... a minute?), phone will say "no service" ... Don't worry this is normal.
4. Softreset
5. Start -> Settings -> System -> Device Information
6. Confirm new PRL 20225
Warranty... None... It worked for me... But I'll try and help if I can.
This hack is based on PPST_FILE_SPCS_1_19_003_with_PRL20224.sa.CAB from the Extended ROM of the latest "Official" Sprint Update. I forgot where I got the PRL file it's self though. The only way to tell the difference is the CRC. Because I don't know exactly how PPST.exe works, I just renamed the PRL to 20224.prl and replaced it within the CAB.
Good Luck,
MadManX

EPST code "##778 call" Stopped working

I am on Stock 2.1, Rooted
For some unknown reason I have lost ability to go into EPST from phone by ##778 code.
QPST is working in diagnostic mode.
Does anyone know what could have caused this and more importantly how to get it back.
Any suggestions would help.
I have searched many places but did not find answers.
seconded...
EPST works fine on my rooted/2.1 stock phone... not on my wife's. None of the ##xxx codes works.
Weeks after rooting my DInc w/ unrevoked 3.0, I decided it was safe to go ahead and do the same on my wife's phone. It's 2.1 stock, rooted with unrevoked 3.1/CM 2.5.0.x...plus the wifi tether kernel for AP mode wifi. Deleted CityID and installed root apps Ti Backup (full version), IncrediLite, and AdFree (which required manual symlinking /system/etc/hosts --> /data/data/hosts).
That's IT. Her phone is simpler in terms of apps installed. There's very little there that I haven't also done to my own phone... she has HandCent SMS where I don't; rooting method plus clockwork recovery were/are newer, and I never quite got AdFree working on one of the handsets.
I've no idea why this happened to one phone and not the other...I don't understand the where the config files are stored, or how the dialer accesses the 'hidden' menu. Unless I find an informative answer, I'm just going to try unrooting hers & reverting to stock...
figured out a few things
running ASTRO's process manager on my W's rooted phone, I see that dialing ##778 does invoke an instance of EPST... but you don't get the view/edit mode dialogue.
Trying to launch EPST from the ASTRO process mgr ("go to application") gives the view/edit choice, and if you hit edit you are prompted for the password... but after typing in 000000 it just hangs on 'wait while verifying password'
logcat has lots of entries containing 'epst' but I don't know how to interpret them.
I notice that the com.google.android.epst file lives in /data/data, where one has to muck around when getting a hosts file symlinked for AdFree...but I didn't do anything clumsy, and the permissions are rwxr-xr-x which looks right.
That's about as far as I can go. Anyone know what breaks EPST?
QPST workaround...
I guess this problem must be pretty isolated since no one has responded... but fwiw, as OP alluded, Qualcomm's QPST utility offers a workaround if you can't launch EPST from your phone/dialer:
1. Find a copy of QPST 2.7 build 323 (don't ask me where). Install to PC.
2. Install HTC Sync (for drivers), then Connect phone as 'charge only' via USB with debugging enabled.
3. Open Device Manager and look under Ports to find which COM# is the HTC Diagnostic Interface.
4. Launch QPST Configuration applet. Click the Ports tab, then Add New Port. Select the COM port you found in Step 3 from the list at left, then hit OK. Your phone should now show up under the Active Phones tab as FFA/Surf QSD8650 Rev. 2.0. If not, unplug phone, dial ##DIAG#, wait 10s and plug back in as in Step 2.
5. Open the QPST Start Clients menu & choose Service Programming. Select your phone, hit OK, then click 'Read from Phone' button in the resulting window.
6. You now have access to the same configuration items you normally reach via ##778 on your phone. 'Write to Phone' will commit any changes you make, without further warning.
Obviously it is possible to seriously BORK your phone from here, requiring a restore from backup (which you should have before trying this). I take no responsibility for what you do with QPST. I used it only to change the tethering NAI from <number>@dun.vzw3g.com --> <number>@vzw3g.com so I could tether my wife's DINc. via Windows DUN. That worked, but I can't guarantee the results of other edits.
Same issue
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am having nearly the same issue.
When I try to access epst from dialing ##778# on my girlfriends hero nothing happens at all. I ended up adding a shortcut with anycut and now the view or edit menu comes up. When I hit view it just hangs when I hit edit and enter the password it stays on "please wait verifying password". I can get ##data# to work and a few other ##xx# codes to work but I need access to the epst advanced settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I have tried 1.5 stock 2.1 stock Fresh versions 2.1.3 (i think that's right) Fresh 2.3.3 and Damage control 2.09.....
I have qpst and CDMA workshop 2.7 but I know there are more options I need to change to get data on cricket. I don't have the $100 to spend on the new version on CDMA workshop.
Thanks in advance.

RADIO

I'm running 3.37 whatever of the radio for this device (on Verizon) and I'd like this 3.42.50 radio. I actually have a 3.42.50 radio download but I'm told if I want to do this with the PC that the radio should be part of another cooked ROM so they flash during the same process. If this is true, which ROM out there includes this radio at this time?

Check that thread - has a link to 3 different radios and instructions
You can just flash the radio only, don't have to flash the whole rom.
If you DO flash the whole rom - you cannot let customizations run - it can mess up the phone.
OK...what if I don't have a 2GB microSD card? Can this be done with the flash program from the computer?
Yes, you can flash it from the computer.
Use this utility - unzip it into its own folder.
In this same folder - you need to put one of the radio files and rename it
Rename the radio file to:
ruu_signed.nbh
It has to be that name for the utility to see the update
You can flash via USB
No dice...
ERROR [328] : INVALID COMMAND
This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your Update Utility.
I have the white XV6900 from Verizon and it has already been unlocked with the Coke Unlocker.
If it won't flash via the Rom update utility - your only hope is using SD card to flash.
Any 512MB, 1GB, or 2GB micro SD (it cannot be SDHC) will work
Just needs to be formatted FAT-32 and file called VOGUIMG.NBH
Can you borrow one from someone?
As long as the card is already fat-32 - don't have to format it.
Just need to put the VOGUIMG.NBH file in root of SD card.
Did you CID unlock the device? I am not sure if you can flash a radio without unlocking the CID first (please note that this is different from Cokeman's).
One other thing, there is a stock rom (I believe it is Bell's), which comes with 3.42.50. If you are unlocked, you could try to flash that rom (which will flash your radio as well), and then simply flash to whatever rom you want to have. That is how I did it as I couldn't flash via RUU or via SD.
You can find a link to that rom in my guide.
Edit: BTW, I am moving this thread to General as it is not dev related.
Thanks Thunder...that was my preference, just wasn't sure which ROM had that radio with it. Smallest microSD I have is 4GB and can't find anything smaller anywhere unless I try eBay which I'd hate to do for one task. I'll holler if I have any issues.
When you flash that Bell Rom - make SURE you do NOT let customizations run!
I have never had to flash that way to upgrade my radio, but from what I've heard,
it can mess with the phone settings and change carrier info if you are not on Bell.
Flash the ROM, let it reboot, and once it powers on, before it does anything, pull the battery.
Then go ahead, put it in boot-loader (tri-color) mode and flash the ROM that you want.

Never had that issue myself, but what Does_It_Matter says here makes perfect sense.
yeah....oopsie on my part and the customizations ran...oddly enough the phone is only half working. I did load another ROM but I'm left with the following features. I can make a call, send/receive text but cannot receive a call or access Internet on Verizon. Automated activation and manual do not seem to be working. Can I simply flash the Verizon ROM onto it to resolve the issue or is there a better approach?

Actually, not everything is lost. Just flash Verizon's rom, but before you do that, extract the contents of the exe and in the extracted folder you will see 2 nbh files. One will be about 100 MB (this is your rom), and the other will be roughly 12 MB (this is the radio). Delete the radio image and flash away. This way, you will ensure that you are not going to downgrade the radio again.
Good luck
OK...the good news is I was eventually to get the stock ROM back on there unfortunately had no choice but to downgrade the radio. Even though I extracted the exe and removed the related radio nbh file, the image would not install unless I ran it from the packaged exe from Verizon.
The bad part is the phone refuses to establish a data connection even after all of that. My fault for letting those Bell customizations run in the first place I suppose but I should have remembered that as I've done this before. I suppose there is some positive in the fact that I have the phone insured and they are sending me another (to bludgeon...lol).
I guess I'll eBay my way into a small microSD card for these radio upgrades. I plan on moving to Sprint and if I do so, can my XV6900 work on the Sprint network as well seeing it is also CDMA? I still have a chance to make this a nice phone for one of my kids when I tickle a new Windows 7 Phone.
Thanks for your help guys and I'm glad that at least someone else can read this and take the necessary precautions.

While technically the MP6900 and the XV6900 are almost identical (who am I kidding, they are the same damn phone!). Sprint doesn't like to activate Verizon's devices on their network and vice-versa. If you have it available (and don't need fast web on your device), try to switch to MetroPCS, which runs off the Sprint network anyways.

[GUIDE] Galaxy Tab Network Unlock

**UPDATE**
This method causes your serial number to change to 00000000 (which isn't a problem as such as this isn't currently used for anything) but there is a new method which involves directly hex editing the nv_data.bin file, which may be faster and does not change your serial number. You can find the details here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843323.
**UPDATE**
First up I'll say that I'm not incredibly familiar with Galaxy S firmware changes/modding, and this mostly builds on work done in these areas, so not all these steps may be necessary but they worked for me. If someone can suggest a faster way to do this/unnecessary steps then please go ahead and reply with them!
This unlocked my Network Locked Australian Galaxy Tab and so I assume should work for others.
You should back up your /efs/ folder before you proceed as you may need this to undo if something goes wrong.
*I take no responsibility if something goes wrong!*
Requirements:
Root access
repair_nv_data.zip (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8942669&postcount=94)
Java
Busybox
The Android SDK for ADB, Root Explorer or some similar file system explorer/editor
(If you have US firmware with no Phone software, you may need to flash European firmware as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838250 ).
Firstly, on your phone dial *#7465625# and check if the Network Lock is set to [ON], if so then your phone is locked (duh), so continue.
1. Use Superoneclick (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812367) to root your phone (the other z4root method may work as well, but this isn't what I used).
2. Either use ADB or some other method to rename or delete (backup first):
/efs/nv_data.bin.md5
/efs/.nv_data.bak
/efs/.nv_data.bak.md5
(I just used Root Explorer to rename them to something else).
3. Restart your phone and then go into the /efs/ directory and see if the 'nv_data.bin.md5' file has been re-created by your phone, as long as it has been created then you can proceed.
4. Go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8942669&postcount=94 and download the repair_nv_data.zip file (the credit for all of this mostly goes to that thread and helroz).
5. Install 'busybox' from the Market. Once you install it, you actually have to run it and properly install it (the Market app is basically an installer) - the files in the above zip have a dependency on this.
6. Extract the above zip to your PC, plug in your Tab in USB debugging mode. Run the Step 2.bat from the extracted file. You may need to allow the script super user access several times. This should copy the /efs/ and a bunch of files into a directory with a french name.
7. Run the Reparation_nv_data.jar file. (You will need Java for this step.) It will prompt you to enter two numbers, which are your pseudo-unlock codes. I entered '11111111' and '11111111' (eight 1's) both times. This rewrites the nv_data.bin file to be simunlocked with these details.
8. Run the Step 4.bat. Your superuser app (the one installed when you rooted using SuperOneClick) will need you to allow each command to have root access so keep an eye on your Tab. You may need to press y/n a few times if you encounter errors. This is uploading the edited nv_data.bin onto your Tab.
This batch file will stop several times and need you to hit a key when it pauses. My Tab rebooted halfway through this batch file - when it did this I waited for it to fully reboot back to the lock screen before pressing a key to make the script continued while the Tab was actually able to respond to its commands.
9. Towards the end of its execution it rebooted a second time. It paused during loading up and had some yellow writing on the screen saying it was updating media (I assume it was rebuilding the nv_data.bin). Leave it for a minute and it will prompt you to reboot/some other options. Just press whatever it wants (home I think) to reboot the phone - you don't want any of the other recovery options.
10. Go into your dialer and put in *#7465625# again and (hopefully) voila! Your phone should no longer be network locked. Try a SIM from a different provider to make sure.
Enjoy!
Edit: I had to go out and actually buy a prepaid SIM to confirm that all was working with a different provider. Attached are screen caps of my Tab on two different networks, as well as the network status screen, making/receiving calls etc. all works on both.
Awesome man, thanks.
This is much better than the 2 month wait we had for Galaxy S unlocking.
Hello, I'm french and i use your post to unlock my Galaxy TAB SFR ''réunion island'' and she is unlock thanks for your AMAZING post for unlock TAB
Ps: For unlock my TAB by SFR REUNION, he tell me 150 Euros.... Vive smithdc & helroz
Works well! I had little trouble running java on windows7. But changing compatibility mode to windowsxp sp3 and check run this program as an administrator solved the problem.
Thanks for easy guide!
tacoda, you mean for running the .jar file? or for installing Java itself? (I assume the former).
Sweeet thx , curious if unlocking the AT&T version has hardware only set to AT&Ts 3G frequencies, so 3g wont work on tmobile or is it capable of running 3g on tmobile with a unlocked AT&T tab?

Running the jar file. I didnt know how to run it.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Does the sim card and/or sd card should or should not be plugged in during the unlocking progress?
It shouldn't make a difference Zeron.Wong.

Traditionally, AT&T and T-Mobile hardware used different radios, it was more than just firmware. That's also true on the little brother Galaxy S series, the Vibrant has a different radio than the Captivate (though the Vibrant radio DOES have 1900 band in the hardware, for some reason).
Kudos to smithdc for this awesome guide! I saved a lot of money thanks to him. Congrats again.
Bump, is there any way to sticky/pin this for people?
So your saying if I use this method and install my tmous unlimited sim I can get calls and 3g or do I need a prepaid sim
I'm not sure on how T-Mobile are blocking, but if it IS my IMEI then you would have to use a SIM from a different network.
If they are blocking your IMEI on their network, then you would have to use a SIM from a different network (as a different network, wouldn't be blocking this IMEI number). Changing it to a different SIM on the same network won't help as your IMEI is for the device itself.
I just want to clarify something..
I have a T Mobile Tab and want to use a SIM I have for ATT.
Will I have to flash my device with the EU firmware first in order to get the phone software on it..then do the rest of the unlocking steps?
Assuming thats correct..after unlocking it I then can put my ATT sim card in and it should work for calls and data (Edge only) with not having to tweak any setting at all? Or do I have to set up my wap.cingular connections for the data like on a WM phone on ATT?
And if I want to get back to original out-of-the-box firmware from T Mobile (like if I had to send it in for repair) I just have to flash stock T Mobile firmware and its back completely to original?
Thanks..and wow am I loving this TAB !!!
You'll need to set up your APN data for AT&T, yes.
Thanks for the fast reply. As for the flashing of the EU rom..is that the only/best way so far in order for me T Mobile Tab to get the radio software on it. I was thinking I saw an APK for the radio software someplace but did not know what way was better.
I just want to be 100% sure bfr I take the jump to unlocking and playing with the phone part
thanks
I got a quick couple of questions:
1. If I restore original firmware (Canadian), does it relock my phone?
2. Where can I get the Canadian firmware release? I see EURO and US, but no Canadian.
I read on one of the other threads that sim unlock method also changes your imei number. Is this really case?

Yes, it will set your IMEI to a bogus one that will get your T-Mobile internet access disabled after 1/2 hour.

Can't connect to network?

I bought this phone via craigslist, and it works minus getting connected to my network (tmobile)
i tried rooting it, but when i go into recovery, it says that there is no sdcard/update.zip directory..my sd card is "unavailable" when i check it in the settings.
i factory reseted my phone, and still nothing with the service. any help?
Try going to settings , wireless and network , mobile networks , network operators and click search now . It might take a few searches but it will eventually register to the network .
I tried that as well, it gives me some error with my sim card.
but my sim card works in every other phone, just not this one
I've lost all hope in society. Man, people knowingly sell things with problems. What makes someone think it is morally okay to rip off another person. Why be a morally corrupt individual?
I hope your phone is fixable, seems like the person sold it to you knowing there was a problem.
Try using odin to go back to stock JFD, see if that helps. Just make sure you can get into download mode with the 3 buttons with no problems
I'll try that, any other ideas..?Thanks btw
I noticed that odin is only for windows, while I'm on a mac..
how do i go about doing this on a mac then? i was thinking restoring a stock rom might help..
You can use Heimdall as an alternative to Odin. It runs on Macs and linux boxes.
Here is the thread that contains the DL Link and info about the program. I have personally never used it, but have read that it's fairly simple. I also recall a member from xda making a video tutorial that he posted on youtube.
EDIT: Here is the original thread from the I9000 forum.
If you have any questions it would probably be better to post there.
I believe the developer checks that thread far more frequently than the one here in the Vibrant forum.
Thank you so much, I'll try to fiddle with this.
I can't seem to locate a stock rom anywhere, the mirrors that I found on this website (the bible thread) the links were dead
Well hell that sucks.
I've got it. I'm zipping it up right now and I'll start uploading ASAP.
I'll post back when it's ready for you.
Awesome,thanks!
Here you go, man. Samsung T959UVJFD True Stock Firmware
After you download the archive. Unzip it and there will be a two files inside, 'T959UVJFD.tar' and 's1_odin_20100512.pit'.
I tried this, but I still get the error that my sim card does not allow connections to this network
any idea what could be wrong..? i sure hope i didn't lose $280 dollars...
Perhaps the phone was locked to a different carrier? I remember when I first got my Vibrant and was reading about rooting, I also saw information that switching networks between AT&T and T-mo was *extremely* easy. I thought I remembered seeing information at one point regarding the codes for each carrier (so you could lock back to t-mobile), but I can't find it now.
Here's the post on unlocking your phone though:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045
thanks so much! this might be my problem!
i downloaded the SGS_Unlock.apk, but when i opened it,it said there was no codes and asked me if i was sure that i was using a samsung galaxy s?
Edit:i'm using a mac, and i'm trying to use the mac software for the unlocking, but when i run the software it tells me this
strings: can't open file: ./nv_data.bin (No such file or directory)
strings: can't open file: ./nv_data.bin (No such file or directory)
Your code is:
I get a blank.?
Is there anyway you can contact the person you bought the phone from and ask them what network they were using the phone on? Or even ask them what exactly they have done to the phone?
They haven't been answering...****ing assholes
Are you rooted? I think that you need su permission to see the path that nv_data.bin is in.
Also, if you go to Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names, what do you see there?
i am not rooted, i will root my phone tonight
Are you still having the "SD card unavailable" issue after flashing back to stock firmware?
When you are ready to root use this.
