Hey all. This is my first post, so bare with me.
I read somewhere that some roms were built to utilize class 2 cards, and only class 2 cards. Is this true? And if so, does cyanogenmod (6.1.1) support anything higher?
I'm asking because I just purchased a class 6 from newegg. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. And cheers!

The Aria should support your Class 6 sdcard just fine.
I have an Aria running CM 6.1 and I use a class 6 SD Card.
Thanks for the replies.
Cheers

First of all i'd like to say welcome and thank you for not posting in dream android development like most other people I'd strongly strongly recommend cyanogen's 1.4 recovery image and his latest ROMS. The experimental versions have more "bling bling" but his stable versions are well...just that incredibly stable. I also recommend that you get a class 6 sdcard, preferably 4 or 8gb so you have enough room. You can get them at newegg.com for a cheap price. class 6 for $15-20. Good luck and have fun!
Thanks so much guys for the responses and info ... and i have a 8gb sdhc from my old phone so i will be all ready to go

Want to make sure it's a class 6 card like the above poster said. You can use class 2 or 4 but might experience lag if you are gonna use apps2sd.

Check and make sure its a class 6 card. You can usually tell on the front of the card should have a number with a circle around it. If you don't have a class 6 I would buy one off newegg they are under 20 with free shipping usually.
ok i just checked and i have a class 4 :-/ ... will the lag be serious enough to where i should get a class 6 or are there more serious problems a class 4 could cause?

Class 4 is cool, but to get the full experience you might want to try a class 6. They are cheap enough now a days. 8 gig class 6 for $15 on newegg.
I have a PNY Class 6 8GB MicroSD for my phone. I was wondering what are the benefits of a2sd, and what are the benefits of a class 6 SD rather than a lower number? I don't currently use a2sd, and wondering if i should.
lower number is slower. iirc, the Hero supports speeds up to class 6, which is faster then the phones ROM

Ok, that makes sense, but why should I use a2sd? How is it better than storing them on internal memory?
if its a class 6 it will load faster.

Ability to have more apps installed, as well as not having to wipe all the applications when you flash a new ROM (although some require you to wipe the ext partition, the ROM chef will tell you if you need to wipe the ext parition (where your apps are stored).
I didn't think I would ever need A2SD until I got to my limit.
I have not noticed a drop in performance opening apps with A2SD on my class 6 card, if there is, its milliseconds.

A2SD moves all of your installed apps to the SD card. If you have a class 6 card, which have a faster read and write speed than the internal memory in the phone, it makes everything run a lot faster since it doesn't have to run everything from the phone.
sorry to get off topic a bit, but ive been looking for a good class 6 card. the only brand i have seen is a-data i believe for about 20 dollars. im not really looking for something that has a large capacity. in your opinion, which one is better as far as brand? and how much did you pay for your card?
One thing to remember though is that class 6 just means it is certified/guaranteed to transfer at 6MB/sec or faster. A class 2 card can still be as fast or faster than a class 6 and there are some out there that do just this.

I wouldn't... every A-Data sdcard I've ever bought has developed bad sectors almost immediately.
Sandisk is the standard, but a class 6 SanDisk is hard to find. The last few I bought were Transcend.
How do you tell what class your card is?

It's on the card itself. It's the letter C with a number inside it. That number is the class number.

thats what ive always been looking for, but as you said its hard to find. if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for your card and what size is it? also, thanks for the heads up on the a-data card.
I read a review not long ago about sandisk class 2 cards. the tests they ran on them showed they were the equivalent to 10 mb/s. of course you would have to get the right batch number. does anyone know a site that tracks this kind of info?

I have a class 6 Transcend and use app2sd. Just wondering how much memory is it supposed to be freeing up?

Depends on how you use a2sd.
If you move dalvik-cache to it as well as your apps it'll be a lot.
But the total amount depends on the number and size of the apps you have installed. I'm sitting with 126/160mb free on Internal Storage.

+2 I have a Class 2 card and I get around ~7+MB/sec, I'm tempted to bump it up to run A2SD more aggressively so that my phone's faster.
i was thinking about buying a class 4 16 gb Sd card.. will this help at all i am not running app2sd..so will the sd card make any difference??
Will it make my screen run smoother and fast on Damage Control 2.8??

If you're not using a2sd it probably won't make much difference either way. If you're thinking of running a2sd later spend the extra 10.00 and get the class 6. regardless of the people talking about their high speed class 2 cards, you'd have to be fairly lucky to get those speeds (as someone else noted, depends on the batch of cards) with class 2, or 4.
an also if i run app2sd if i pull out my memory card at anytime will it mess up my phone??
and i have the 1st class right now so upgrading will make no difference when downloading apps to my phone or anything like that??
I was using an 8 gig class 2 that I have misplaced. It didnt run too well and my nook was laggy. I am hoping to get an 8 or 15 gig card. Which class will work best for rooting? Thanks

Strictly speaking any microsd card should work for rooting the B&N stock install on the built in memory. But if you are talking about booting from microsd and running a ROM, you want a Sandisk card.
I've noticed you've started a few threads now that could have been avoided with a little searching. Talk about microsd cards can usually be found in the first two pages of the Accessories subforum just by skimming the titles.
Most of the common topics will show up in the first three pages of any given forum.
Happy Searching,

This seems to be common consensus in XDA.
Sandisk Class 2 or 4
I was wondering if it is possible to use a 64 GB microSD card with my MT4G. If so, what ROM do I need? I searched and the only thread I found was a thread from 2011 saying that the cap is 32 GB because that is the limit of microSDHC. I found a good deal on a 64 GB card and would like to get it if I can use it.
Yeah it will work, but you won't get the claimed speeds due to our old hardware.
Just format the card in the phone and you're good to go.
what is the speed I will get with the card? I'm looking at a class 6

Not sure. I'm doing research on this. I know the card will WORK on the mytouch 4G, but I don't see any mytouch 4G specific speed tests. I saw where a newer phone got better speed on sdxc class 6 than sdhc class 6, but again that's newer hardware.

What kind of speed tests are you guys looking for? I have a 64GB microSDXC card in my MT4G. I'd be willing to run a couple tests if you guys are looking for any specific information as long as you tell me what you want done.
Can we use a SD booster app to get the acclaimed speed with a 64GB SD card ? :what:

A lot of the performance gain seen with SDXC cards comes from the new file system included- exFAT. ExFAT is not supported on our device, at least not in any ROMs I've used since getting mine. I'm not sure if different ROMs can include the necessary changes to allow exFAT usage. If I had to speculate, I'd say it probably depends on firmware updates to the card reader in the phone that we likely won't ever see.
Instead, to achieve functionality, you must use your phone to format the microSD card before it can be used. As a result, we won't be able to see all the benefits the newer, higher capacity cards have to offer. An SD booster application may still be able to speed things up a little, just as it could with the older cards. I just wouldn't expect too much.

My microSDXC card is a Sandisk Class 10 200x 64GB SDXC. The formatted capacity of my card is 59.4GB. I have about 31GB of free space. This card was NOT empty when I ran these tests. I'm not sure that would effect the tests at all, but if so, this should lean more towards real performance rather than results you'll never see once you start using a card.
Here are a few speed tests:
Hey guys,
let me ask you one question. Is anybody using 32GB SD card in HD2 with Android ROM?
Yes. I've got a Sandisk 32GB [class 4] card using latest NexusHD2 ROM.
And everything works fine? No problem with read/write operations?

As far as I know, everything the same, haven't noticed any differences from my class 6 16gb card.

yes, i also have had the 'small' 32 GB card for a long time with no probs. Sandisk of similar good name is recommended. and class 6, dont pay any extra ro higher, lik class 10, as they are slower in a phone.
but.....

I'm surprised, 3 years old phone supports 32 GB card. I am using Cotulla's LEO "Stock" NAND Android ROM.
IMO difference between Class 4 and 6 is minimal. A REAL Class 10 at 16 GB may be a better deal.

From what I've read class 4/6 performs somewhat better in general use of the phone except obviously moving large files to the sdcard such as ROMs, and using the video camera to write large files for general use I've read that class 4/6 are somewhat better.
I'm currently using Kingston C10 32gb without problems.
