How can i acquire root when i am on adb ? I want to replace some files in system/framework and i cant do it.
i do
adb shell
su
and i cant acquire root to replace the files.
PS : Come to think about it, i once tried to replace some files in there and i end up with a bootloop. So it would be nice to know how to be able to get out of that loop by replacing the original files.
Thanks in advance.

I did accept it, but when i was on bootloop i couldnt acquire root. Plus the Android Commander needs root too. How can i do that ?
Stick it in recovery mode, mount /system RW. Then ADB shell in, you should get a root shell. Fix what needs fixin', then reboot.

I'll try that if that ever happens to me again since i had to re-flash it. Do you maybe know how i can acquire root on Android Commander ?
In normal usage I assume you'd have to allow the request on the Tab's LCD. Else, I don't know. I don't use Android Commander. Sorry dude

EDIT: This information is out dated now but visit the link below for updated info.
taken from here http://www.samsungmomentforum.com/rooting/root-access-(finally-achieved!)/
1) Partition your SD Card to have first partition as fat16 and second ext3 [this tutorial assumes you have this setup exactly as stated]
2) Boot in Test Mode with Call+Center+Power
3) copy root into your tools directory of the sdk
4) adb push root /system
5) adb shell chmod 0755 /system/root
6) adb shell /system/root
7) unplug usb, remove battery, reboot into test mode when instructed
8) adb shell
9) /system/bin/btld_testmode
10) /system/root
Excellent. It work!. Just do exatly the steps above. Thanks for putting all this info together.
FYI... Samsung post the source code of the samsung moment.
Is this temp or persistent root? For temp root I don't think partitioning the sd card is necessary or at least I didn't partition it when I temp rooted my Moment.
Was a long time WinMo user, I was stuck with a Moto Q9c on sprint for way to long. I'm still stuck with sprint, but got the Moment in hopes of having a badass Android to start with.
Night and Day compared to my Q, the root is key though, custom rom's were so easy on the Q.
soooo im a newb to android, same question as johnbarry3434.
does it stick?
I've got two Moment's(thanks sprint for shipping me 2 and charging me for neither) ?maybe one for test purposes?
Anything I can do to help the rooting process, please let me know
Sorry guys but I'm very new to this android. Only had my phone for a week now. Is rooting like flashing a custom ROM for the Touch Pro?
Does this require seperate adb drivers for the Samsung phone?? If so where can I get them and are there any avaliable for Ubuntu???
Hi guys,
I have just gotten myself a Samsung Spica. Can I use this guide as well? Is there a ROM-update tool for the Spica?
I'm really n00b, so any help is appreciated
I need someone with this rooted phone to contact me, I need to get some data from it so I can work on something for it.
Please contact me at [email protected]
Thanks
hey look i am brand new to this whole root thing i just got my moment two days ago i am used to the simple jailbreak iphone stuff but this is a whole new level
i am on windows vista and i do not understand any of this at all please someone email me some simpler instructions or make a video or something just to help me out in some way please and thank you
my email: [email protected]
use the search Service people
Now that moment is rooted?
Will there be any chance of us getting a custom rom of andorid using sense ui?
i dont really see any point in rooting my phone if there is no MAJOR thing you can do with it..
I cannot get my samsung to root
I have the updated cupcake cl14 and when I boot my phone with talk+center+power, I boot into a test mode that lets me test the screen, keyboard, and so on. I did copy the root file (supplied from the instructions ) to the main part of my card on both partitions, and partitioned it just as it stated in the 1st step. I don't understand what the "adb" is and how to use it. Can this only be down with windows because I'm am using Ubuntu. I know adb is advance debugging bridge but after some google searches I still don't know how to use it. I now a little about chmod 0755 because of Ubuntu but any "hand-holding" instructions would be great thankyou to everyone who is willing to help me and others out with this problem.
Is there still no "real" benefit for root access for the Moment? As in no good reason to root the phone? My girlfriend has one and I was hoping that it was at least close behind my Hero by now in terms of root access benefits....TIA

just got my phone and can't increase the size of the fonts was told rooting is the only way even with using spare parts.
first of what program can I use to partition the sd card I am running windows XP. and everything I have downloaded today would only see the internal drive.
For those of you still looking for how to root your Samsung Moment (you don't have to use your SDCard either) there are two HOW TOs posted at PPCGeeks under the NON-WM DEVICES>ANDRIOD>SAMSUNG MOMENT
One explains how to root phone with CJ05
The other explains how to root phones that have CL14 out-the-box or officially updated to CL14
I would post a link except I'm not permitted to post an outside link... just go to PPCGeeks(dot)com and click on their forum
So what Now!!!!
Okay I see you have this placed here.. I like... I have a Nexus and 2 Droids, wife and mine.. Nexus ALL mine.. HAHAHA..
My sister, wifes sister, she has the Moment.. I have always wanted to root this just cause of the 800mhz processor... This was the first device to almost meet up with the Nexus before it was even thought up..
Is there Roms, Themes, Kernels, etc.. I see nothing, but a root, useless, without an accommodation, thanks anyway, always good to have the key to the door first..
Somebody, PM me if not on, or reply here, I'll come back around...
cool that i made the front page but the info is out dated now.
yes this info is way outdated. just flash the kernel with speedyrabbit's or joeykrim's kernel and you'll have persistent root, plus a much faster phone.
also, speedyrabbit's kernel has wifi tether and flash_image support. you can download from www(dot)sdx-developers(dot)com.

Maybe you can first instal Amon-RA recovery and then install Fyodor ROM with built in Market Patch. Also Fyodor ROM is much better than the stock ROM
Recovery
ROM
adb
may be you just didnt get adb working
windows has a usb driver issue sometimes that means you have to un-install the device first then go for the adb device recognition
in your command prompt first check are at the directory where your adb files are located,,,
then plug in and wait a mo- now type - adb devices -
( without the dashes of course )
you should get something like htcw804556554
( made up but you get my drift )
if thats not working you have the usb driver issue i mentioned above
the forum post on tattoo market hacking is brilliant and does work so all i can say is give this a crack see what gives !!
..
thanks terminal 7, I will try this today.

Oh no not another N00b question on rooting...
How do i get root on a fender...lol JK JK
Seriously, i want to know if it is possible to pull all the Fender special stuff from the device BEFORE rooting so I can use them on the new rom.
I remember something like adb shell pull or something like that?
Google proved unhelpful.
My mother is *****ing about how slow her phone is, how many problems she has, etc.
She has so many STUPID apps loaded there is only 32MB internal left....So I told her to let me root it and then she can have apps2sd....but she wants ALL the stupid Fender specials.
Thanks guys
You could try tools like Droid Explorer or Android Commander to copy the apps from the phone.

Well... you have a couple of options.
You can use adb shell do do it.
create a folder (we'll use example c:\users\john\desktop\dump)
open command prompt
cd c:\users\john\desktop\dump
adb pull /system dump (it may create another directory within the 'dump' folder... which is fine)
or the easy way, just extract the stock rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5451846&postcount=1
Just note this, many of the files are odexed and cannot be used on other roms.
However other apps such as solo and such should be fine.
The Music app will not work (since it is dependant on the odex counterpart and the specific framework)
For that you can look into this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=679707
Thank you Binary ^_^
Thats aht i needed.
I just need the stuff like Solo and the Boot screen(or is it the splash screen)

Check out the Unlockr.com for the bootscreen because you will not find that in the rom.

Hi there,
Newcomer to the forums - go easy guys!
I'm wondering what's the safest one click .apk I could use to root my LG GT540 using the stock Android 2.1? If possible I would like to revert back to a unrooted device within oneclick as well.
The only reason I am interested in rooting my device is to overclock it - by adding more power when needed, and to lower the frequency when I'm not using it.
Any help is appreciated guys, thanks!

Sorry, but you cannot overclock the phone without installing a custom kernel. But for rooting your device, I recommend z4root, it gives you the option to un-root too. Download the .apk from here: http://www.gamefront.com/files/17562655/z4root.1.3.0.apk/
Just put it on your SDCard and install with either APKInstaller or ASTRO File Manager from the market.
Hope it helps,
Jack
Okay, thanks!

You will have full control over the android filesystem with certain root apps (eg. Root Explorer) but rooting is actually quite secure, you have to allow or deny apps when they request superuser access. It will also allow you to WiFi Tether so you can use your phones internet connection on your computer (Your phone broadcasts a wifi signal that your computer can use for an internet connection)
Jack
Hi there, thanks for your help so far! Would I be able to change the top white bar (where the battery icon is) on my now rooted Android 2.1 stock?

For that you will have to find and download a moded/themed framework-res.apk .
You will also need to instal SDK tools and ADB bridge on your computer ( there are many tutorials on the net - google it )
After that you simply connect the phone to PC via USB cable , open cmd on PC and give the next comand :
adb push [directory of framework-res.apk ] /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
For example - adb push C:\Downloads\framework-res.apk /system/framework/framework-res.apk
adb reboot
if you have any more questions feel free to ask

Worked for me! It was even easier than rooting an HTC Evo 4G. This thread, or at least the thread referenced in the first post, should be stickied in the Development sub-forum.
I am a Noob and I can Root my Note!
I had experience rooting a Milestone 2 with SuperOneClick and an unbranded Android Tablet with Z4Root. (Thanks to developers of these!)
Unfortunately, both these methods did not work on the Galaxy Note so I came here and found this thread.
Unfortunately, ADB drivers was an issue with the zergRush Exploit on first run. The easiest way to get around this is to install PDANet on Windows and have it install the drivers for you. No need to complete the whole installation, just watch when it's finished installing USB drivers and then when prompted to continue, just cancel. Then re-run the zergRush Exploit and it should do its magic (Again thanks to the developers who work on these!)
While I'm able to freeze some apps with ROM Toolbox, I'm unable to change boot animation or the battery icon. Would appreciate if anyone could help with this!
Rooting hav no relation to install official/crckd version of apk.
Rooting needed for those application which are needed to access your system data e.g backup etc
when you need to install these kinds of application (weather off/unoff) you needs Root.
The optional unrooting package works also perfectly (just for info)...
i have sent back my Galaxy Note to amazon just to wait for the white version of the Note.
This method won't increase your binary counter, so root and unroot it as often as you like
Never either had any problem at all after rooting it, so this method is also stable and won't crash your device in any way or crash any applications...
Root confirmed working here, superuser.apk doesn't have permissions set properly but still works, easy to fix, updates fine from market.
Awesome - confirmed working. This needs to be stickied... other websites are promoting netchips CWN kernel method instead of this MUCH simplier way.
For you noobs with a clean system (that means me!), get the following files:
Note I run a 64 bit windows box, get the 32 bit variants if necessary.
You need:
1) Latest version of Kies
www.samsung.com/ca/kies/index.html
download file for me was: Kies_2.0.3.11082_152_4.exe
2) Java:
www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html
Click on jdk and download. File for me: jdk-7u1-windows-x64.exe
3) android sdk:
developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
My file was: installer_r15-windows.exe
4) zergrush root script
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312859
grab the zip file in that page i.e.
DooMLoRD_v1_UNROOTING.zip
and unzip it to your windows box.
Install 1, 2, 3 in that order.
Find the SDK Manager program in your sdk install directory, double click it, and download/update 'Android SDK Platform Tools'.
Note you can't run the sdk manager program from the command prompt, or it'll complain that directories are being locked.
Now follow the instructions on the zergrush page, i.e. do the 'before you begin' stuff.
Go to the directory where you unzipped the doomlord zip file, run the runme script from a command prompt, and that's it.
To test, download terminal monitor, run it, and do a 'su' then 'id' and see if it says you are root or not.
Good luck!
