Hi im new to HTC Wildfire which i just rooted a few minutes ago. Should i use Openfire or WildPuzzleROM? I want a stable one with no errors that i could use. Any advices?
Two differnt roms. Main difference? One has the sense UI the other doesn't.
Just try them both and see which suits you the best.
Good Luck
That depends if you want sense or a none sense ROM. my advide is try out both a few days each and then decide
Market Problem
FAIL - Wrong Topic, Sorry
I've tried the OpenFire it works smoothly.. but when i tried the WildPuzzleROM , my contacts crashed and got into HTC reboot screen again. any help for this?
EDIT:Managed to get over with that screen and trying it out. testing out the difference
CyanogenMod
ermms sure can you get me the link for it? can't find it :X
All the roms are right here in the development forum...
Openfire or wildpuzzle you must try Cyanogen mod 6.1 because this is one real master...

As far as I know, cyanogenmod is still in beta. Before recomending it I think we should tell this to the topic starter.
Now regarding openfire vs wildpuzzle:
Because we don't know how "deep" you are in this, let me describe as that. Wildpuzzle looks much closer to the original rom, containing htc's sense interface,Widgets and some apps. It looks like it's there ready for everyday use right out of the box. On the other hand openfire has a cleaner approach waiting for you to set it up. It also works out of the box, but I think the approach for someone who wants to customize the installation before using it. You choose and go. Both are result of great work, covering different needs. I used both.
I hope I helped.

okie i've tried wildpuzzle for awhile and seems like openfire is smoother then the stock and wildpuzzle rom. So.... cyanogenmod i'll go test it out. cyanogenmod or openfire is better now? lols
There is no 'best rom'. There is only choice.
If you like the HTC Sense interface and its features, go WildPuzzle.
If you prefer snappiness, go for Openfire and Cyanogenmod (although WP also is a huge leap in speed compared to the stock ROM)
Okay I did some research on the Rom. Everyone raves about the speed and how battery last longer then the stock or cm6 roms. It looks very iphony to me. How smooth is the Rom? How is it working out for you miui users. Is it worth the time? I am very satisfied with cm6. Haven't thought of switching but I want to give it a try. Please let me know.
try out the rom yourself, its not going to kill you
I gave it a go. It is very iphone-ish, but not so much that it bothered me or was distasteful. I saw no increase in battery life or speed, even though I'm sure tests might prove it, nothing that makes a noticeable difference in day to day usage. I eventually went back to enoms rom with wildmonks kernal.

miui
well, I didnt wanna try it out either because I really dont like the iphone interface, but turns out that I did try it and I love it!
I didnt use the stock launcher though, thats what made it iphone like.
Im using launcher pro and adw so I get pretty much all the benefits of the rom. It is a very fast rom. probably as fast as all the other really. but for some reason, its really smooth. its a completely new version of android I would say.
give it a try with another launcher. I think you might like it. also, try out wildmonks kernels. they seem pretty fast and stable for me
Which Rom do you recommend? Rodriguez or dj's? Wildmonks kernel is the best. Not a big fan of iPhone but will use launcher pro or adw launcher.
Im using rodriguez. It seems to be the easiest one file flash type of rom.
Rodriguez is what I used. Was very nice and launcher pro worked great with it. It also has some nice features with it. I might give it another go myself, but with gingerbread around the corner, I dunno. Plus it's just hard to give up enoms.

im using it with adw launcher and i love it. there isnt really any increase in performance that ive noticed but i love how you can go straight to sms app from the lock screen.
Rod's MIUI rom's rock...happy flashing!
And read his thread posts for details & info
I've been using Rodriguez MIUI roms for a while now. Every once in a while I flash something else including a few Sense ones and CM6.1 but the MIUI roms simply dust them in speed and responsiveness.
I don't really like the icons so much but I can easily overlook them with the huge increase in speed, stability over CM and the latest (1.8.1) with Wildmonks kernel gives me better battery life than I have EVER had.
I really like MIUI for a couple of reasons. The ability to create folders on the home screen makes finding my apps faster and more organized, as I like to load down my phone with more apps than I ever would really use. I also really like what they've done with the dialer and in-call menu, as it gives you bigger buttons and indicators for Bluetooth connectivity and such. I've lost track of how many times I've forgotten to turn on Bluetooth prior to making a call, and ROMs based on the stock Froyo only have the small icon on the status bar to let you know whether Bluetooth is connected, so I often ended up sitting there listening to silence for a few seconds before realizing the problem. Even answering a call is somewhat easier, as you swipe down instead of sideways, and that's especially useful for the times when I'm asleep and get awoken by a call.
Then there's always the other assorted UI improvements that aren't particularly necessary, but still cool nonetheless. There's a cool visualizer that plays along with your music on the lock screen, in addition to controls on the lock screen for your music. The stock wallpapers are really nice too, and after using CyanogenMod I started getting tired of seeing the color cyan. The top bar is transparent too, so it will always look nice with whatever wallpaper you choose. Despite taking some cues from Apple's iOS UI, I actually think MIUI does it better.
The look of the icons is my only gripe with MIUI, but that can be changed with themes of course. Speed wise, I haven't noticed a whole lot of improvement, and I think that's because I don't often have many apps all running at once. What really matters to me is usability, and in that department MIUI shines, and hopefully will only get better.
I use the miui rom as well with Launcher Pro. The Battery life rocks. thats my main reason I use it.

I thought we've always been able to do this with even a stock n1, no? I never use it, but thought it's always been there.

I did it I flashed it made it like I had it before. Seems little zippy. I like the lock screen. We will see how everything works in couple of days.
Is there a theme for this Rom?

it is not hard hard to make a nadroid backup, flash a rom and try it, if you don't like it, may be go back?. People's inputs are biased and you may have a different experience than what others tell you.
One thing is sure, MIUI rom is more composed than the stock experience you get from CM.

Meh. Tried it, didn't like it. Went back to CM nightly. MIUI is not in any way faster or better on battery than CM or stock rom. That's all hype and placebo. And imo, LauncherPro2 is way better than MIUI launcher.
But, some people like it, and I'm glad we have a choice.

I agree. I was using miui not so long back, and its certainly a nice rom, and unlike many,i certainly don't mind the iphone look. However, the talk of it being faster and having better battery life than others is incorrect. I'm now using geos frg83 rom which is largely stock, and the speed and battery life are identical. I decided to start using that as I got sick of constantly updating newer versions of the rom, and all the issues it used to bring. However it is a very polished rom, but with ginger bread around the corner, I will just hold off until then.
As an out of the box rom though it is very nice and polished.
i am using cm 6.1 rc1 right now

As far as am aware the messaging thing used to be an issue a few updates ago but I think it's fine now. Maybe someone else could clarify. If anything perform a nandroid backup just in case.
I personally think that miui currently outshines the rest, it's my rom of choice on my n1.
ya , ill give it another try
thnx , i just miss the 3d app drawr in launcher pro
When I got my phone, like many I'm sure, I used the HELL OUT OF IT!!
After tons of research I decided to Root and go with Fresh's Rom..
I love his Rom to be honest.. but I'm thinking after months now, I should try something new?
I have the same boring superman theme and background, (was cool for a while)
I use Launcher Pro and such.
So.. Should I try a new Rom guys? I know I will lose everything, all my information, which kinda sucks, but I think I'm willing to give it a go..
What Rom should I do? What's the most popular rom these days?
THANKS
Dude... I flash new (updates) ROMs almost daily while I experiment with ROMs, kernels, fonts and themes. I don't understand why people are so afraid of wiping their phones to default settings. Anything worth keeping is on your SD card, it is on mine. Apps can just downloaded again. Look on the ROM page of the Evo wiki and find a rom you think improves your phone or just try something for the hell of it.
Miui. Ive tried many many roms and is awesome. I love my phone again!

I change my rom so often I have a small collection of nandroid back-ups that I use to switch back and forth (nandroid = backs up your phone and makes a damn good rolodex of roms). I've used Myn, MikFroyo, Gingerbread, Fresh, MIUI and sometimes I'll just go back to the ol stock rom. Then I go theme hunting, font hunting, live wallpapers, fun programs and try out kernels. Which combos have the best performance, the best quadrant scores, which ones look the coolest. Granted, I've only had the phone for 3 weeks but...yknow... aww hell I think I'll go with some gingerbread today!

Same here. Keeps me busy. Pisses the wife of though. I just tell her "I'd rather mess with my phone, than listen/watch that crap you have on the TV." I'd rather shoot myself than be in the same room as Jersey Shore.
Use titanium backup and you won't lose all your apps. As far as roms go check out Myns or some cm7
try myn's rom with a gingerbread theme and a netarchy kernel. much better than fresh imo.

I also like to try most every rom out there, from Cyanogen, and MIUI, to Sense. I trend to lean toward Sense roms because everything works.
I'm digging Caulkins EviO rom with themed launcher pro. Great speed, look, and battery life. Linpack and Quadrant scores are pretty high too if those numbers make you happy.
I constantly change roms. Between myns, calks, mikfroyo, and whatever else sounds interesting at the time. I have quite a few gigs of nandroid backups on my pc, just fly back and forth between em. I just can't stop changing roms, I like all of them. All the devs here are great and put out some awesome work. Flash away dude.

I'm the same way... You might want to try out MIUI. After installing it, it's like having a whole new phone again... the user experience is completely different than what's out there right now. However, I do wish they resolved the BT issue - it's the only thing keeping me from having it as my daily ROM.

I used to be kind of skittish about changing ROMs and such. When I first rooted I went with Myn's warm, and used only that for months. It was just the best out of all that I had seen. Great polish, fast, had everything I wanted. But like a lot of you I got bored after a while. Needed something different. Tried out evervolv (and king/dc13's variation of it) to see what the gingerbread was all about. It was freakishly fast (I hope the official 2.3 release is even faster!) and had great animations, transitions, etc. But the few bugs kept me from keeping it as a daily driver for more than a week. GPS almost never worked for me and wifi seemed to have a mind of its own. Went back to Warm for a while. Then tried MikFroyo v4.4 after seeing the explosion of popularity after he revamped the whole ROM. I have been using that ever since. It's got basically everything I loved about Warm but it's slightly faster, enough to notice, especially sending texts. I've been eying MIUI lately...thinking about trying that out soon. As for kernels...I've found non better than netarchy's. Currently using 4.3.1 and it's the most stable/fastest yet. Incredible battery life especially with the SBC mod.
Basically nandroid backups and titianium backup are your friends. I have a backup of Warm, Evervolv, and MikFroyo so I can switch back if I feel like it. Backing up and restoring apps with titanium is a breeze (I highly recommend the pro/donate version). I've got to the point where doing a full wipe does not bother me at all...I have all my settings memorized and I can have everything back to how it was before the wipe in no time.
I highly recommend some Warm two point two. Can't go wrong with that. I've been running it for about a month, and don't want to change.

I highly suggest you try Miui 1.21.2. The official release JUST came out late last night and it is pretty freaking epic. It's something completely different than what you are used to, I guarantee.
The stock launcher on it is like an android version of the iphones because there isn't a App drawer. It is extremely smooth, theres a theme manager built in so you can change themes on a whim, you can even edit your own.
If you don't want the "iphone" feel, although I must say it is much more epic because of window animation transitions and the addition of widgets and much more, try GO Launcher Ex which also just came out and seems to be on par if not better than adw or launcher pro...
I'm currently in the process of customizing each launcher to my liking (launcher pro, go launcher and the stock one that came with the rom) and I plan on using home switcher ALOT.
ANYHOOOO... If you want something new and even more epic than before, you won't go wrong with MIUI... I was holding off because of the lack of 4g but seeing that it's around the corner I decided to give it a go...
I currently run Iced Glacier, but am thinking about switching over to CM7.
I've read the pros and cons on CM7, but would like feedback from those that switched from IG to CM7, or switched to CM7 and went back to IG. Or those that just love IG/CM7 to death and wouldn't recommend anything else.
Please and thank you.

Both of those roms are great. It really comes down to if you want a MySense rom or something that is more of a straight vanilla Android with the CM extras. After you get used to CM7 it can be hard to go back to anything else, but it really depends on what you like.
My first suggestion would be to go to my EZ CwM 3.0.0.6 Install thread and install the latest recovery (3.0.0.6) and then from recovery make a Nandroid backup of your current rom. Then start flashing Roms till you find one you like.
I have been running the cm7 RC since it came out and I like it much more than iced glacier which was my previous rom. Everything from speed to functionality is an improvement. Just keep in mind that cm7 is still in the experimental mode and iced glacier is a stable rom so you have to be patient as cyanogen continues to make improvements.

I do currently roll .6 so I have the ability to go back and forth between 2.2 and 2.3 (or so that's what it tells me it's capable of).
i continue to keep flashing between these two roms because i just cant decide which one i like more...they both have the pluses and minuses but even those are very minor and are personal likes/dislikes...such as maybe a button location or theming...all which can be solved by 3rd party means
both run really well...i think cm7 runs better out of the box while IG runs better when you've flashed another kernel like Faux's latest...cm7 is also nice to not have the need to run a 3rd party app to control OC'ing IMO
i keep going back to IG cause it seems it fits the "look" i want more so than cm7 currently...it also feels a bit more natural than cm7...but at the same time i love messing with cm7 to learn gingerbread and learn whats to come for our phones
i think once cm7 hits RC2 or its full stable release ill switch to it full time when i can get a nice theme for it and get it looking and feeling the way i want
honestly you cant go wrong with either rom...if you want sense and good rom thats feels like the stock rom with all the bells and whistles of what roms add...go IG...if you want the latest and greatest that runs like a champ out of the box and is nice and simple AOSP but with a ton of features on the back end...go cm7
I also went from iced to cm7, used it for 3 hours before restoring back to iced. I'm so used to the sense UI that I love it. The contact lists is so much easier to use with dialing numbers on the pad to get that contact you want even though you could use the app dialer one to get the same features on cm7.
I don't know what else it is but I'm sticking to iced (sense) until atleast cm7 becomes stable.

I switched from IG to CM7 at some point in January and have not returned. CM7 was my first CM, and there are things about it that keep me there. Many things....here's what comes immediately to mind:
Usability improvements:
Notification widgets allow me to have six toggles of my choosing on the notification bar.
Rotary unlock gesture so much clearer, obvious, easier, and less "oops" prone than the Sense downward gesture to unlock/answer.
Lockscreen functionality out the wazoo, twelve ways from Sunday to configure and use.
CPU clocking management for performance/battery built-in, no SetCPU or CPU Tuner needed
Mass storage on/off when USB connected easier to manage than in Sense
Things I like as well, but haven't yet used:
OpenVPN client
Preferred apps (granted, you could do this on any ROM):
Built in ADW Launcher over Sense's launcher, whatever it is called
Google Voice Search over Genius Button
Google Car Home over Car Dock
IG is the Stock ROM with performance improvements and some -- some, but not all -- bloatware removed, and some prettiness added, like a transparent notification bar with a cute logo. It's very nice. But I prefer CM.
When I flashed it the RC was the latest version out that's really the only reason.

Before you read this, it only contains my opinions. Don't get mad at me for them.
I really love Iced Glacier. It has a better integration of features (Facebook, Visual Voicemail, Twitter). But CM 7 is just all around cleaner. Sense is bogged down with a lot of nonsense (haha! funny pun!). The launcher and widgets take up way too much memory. LaucherPro is faster and more customizable with much less size and memory consumption. CM7's lockscreen is better. And CM7 has volume button track change. And camera button track pause/play. This is clutch for me! I can't go back to IG because of this. I got better battery life and performance from IG, but CM7 has all the extras I need.
I currently run iced glacier 1.1.6
Everything works flawlessly. Its so fast and smooth. I have a G2 running CM 6.1.1 and its stable and perfection.
If CM on the mytouch runs a bit more stable I would throw it on.

This is simply a vanilla android vs sense question. I like sense so I stick with Iced Glacier. I find vanilla android, well, vanilla, kinda boring and less useful for the way I use my phone. This is no knock on cm it's just my personal preference.

I'm just curious cause I was having some issues that no one else is seeming to have while running IG...such as contacts problems, visual voicemail having to be re-set up every time I restart, internet crashing at times...
So I was just curious on how people felt on each, and what their experiences were like.
Firstly, I want to say that I am doing this just to get everyone's own personal view on which EVO ROM is the best. Before I get all kinds of hateful posts just hear me out. I want to know what you think from your own personal point of view and why you think it's the best. For those who switch ROMs daily, post and tell some pros and cons of each maybe. Tell me why you like it, what you like about it, which of your needs it meets, which it doesn't. And so on!!! I think this could be a good thread for the noobs to learn different things about different kinds of ROMs and what the different ones have to offer. Thank you XDA community!!!!!
Edit: "Frequent flaher" I like that term and I'm sure it applies to a lot of people posting in this thread.
Destroyer is awesome. Very fast and awesome theming. VaelPak is also really good b/c it's so unique and customizable. IMHO, if you're new to flashing, you need to try, CM or variant of, Miui, VaelPak, and a Z ROM (MikZ or Warm Z).
For sense ROMs, Unleashed is really good. Very fast/smooth and awesome theme options. Best sense ROM IMHO. MikFroyo is also very fast. I can get good battery life out of almost any ROM, but EViO 2 stands out in that area.
ive flashed alot of sense and about all of the gingerbread roms. the gingerbreads are fast, but too high maintenance for me. sure some will say that its stable for them but 8 out of 10 in the cm threads are trying to work out bugs.
theres also a lot of fast and fully functional sense roms highly themed. depends on what the end user whants out of their rom, functionality, look, batt, etc..
i like a bare bones stock sleek looking optimized preferably lightly themed rom. thats why im currently running Miks 4.6b2 ODEXED themed by Chogardjr. i removed all of the useless stuff, its faast, rock solid stable, great battery life and everything works. IMHO!
I have used almost every setup there is, and most are pretty good, except they all have an issue or 2 that makes me feel incomplete when it comes to my phone.
Sense Roms: King's Ultra Froyo and Ultra Froyo 2, Koni's Elite 1 and Elite 2. ALL of those are pretty equal. Very fast, smooth, beautiful looking, but no matter what kernel I tried, battery life was garbage. One thing about my phone is I tried almost every NetArchy Kernel there is, I bet, and never got a good battery on a Sense ROM.
Miui: I can see why people like it, but I just don't like having all my apps on the desktop and switching to LPP takes away part of the allure of havng Miui. The theme changer wouldn't install any of the themes I downloaded. Plus, I had issues with screen flicker, but I understand I did the update wrong, so that may be where that came from. Also, I spent over an hour alphabetizing my apps... damn OCD!
CM7: By FAR the best battery life, with the kernel I use, SavagedZen 009, but the GPS navigation thing is an issue. I take my phone off the charger at 6AM, and by 11PM, after moderate to heavy use, I'm never below 50%. Still, I want those Sense Widgets. LPP has them, but in People, for instance, you don't get the user pics from Facebook, and all the entries are just the stock Android image. One other thing on CM7, that is intolerable, is that it takes a coon's age to copy anything to my SDCard. I did a back up, and reformat the other night and it took an hour and a half to copy my music back (just under a gig), for example
Right now, I'm running Destroyer, and the battery isn't as good as with nightly 14, but it's pretty good. BEtter than with any of the others I've tried. And whatever issues people have with this, I'm not having them. Everything is working good. Very fast, too.
For me, the best, most complete ROM there is, is VaelPak 3.2. It has everything you want. Almost like all the different Mods were combined to make one insane ROM. More custumization options than CM/Sense and MiUi put together, puls packs of goodies that come with the ROM installed on the SDCard. I can't remember why I took it off now, but I think it was the battery life, again, was horrible. Dropped 15% in less than 2 hours with the stock kernel. Although, I didn't keep it on long enough to really test other kernels with it, and there are a few that people using it say give them fanatastic battery life.
I love my CM7 nightlies. Nuff said!!!!!! <3

Thank you XDA community!!!!!

still waiting for the best...
i like warm z.. but it dont have hdmi and 4G. ffc can be worked around.
what dont you give your thoughts???
Well I just started flashing ROMs about 9 months ago and started a basically sense roms. I didn't really like them bc of limited customization and they were a little slow and battery was horrible. From there I stuck with an AOSP rom for about the past 6 months until a few weeks ago and read up a little on MIUI and tried that out for a whole 6 hours and hated it. I couldn't stand all my apps on the screen and no drawer. Really got on my nerves. Then tried out that Unleashed and was happy with that for about a week til I really started doing some reading up on CM and decided to try it out, loved it and everything about it. So now I'm a supporter of them, but am super stoked to try out this new SZ ROM. Think that might be the new rom of choice for me.
Edit: That good Dan?

^^^ that will work...
Not sure why anyone hasn't said this yet but Myn's Warm TwoPointTwo RLS 5 is the best in my opinion. Might not have been updated in a while, but in my experience is the fastest Sense rom with lots of eye candy while still looking sleek/professional without going overboard, the best battery life (16 hours heavy use 30 with light use/good signal), and everything works. I know that AOSP roms have wimax now but gps has been hit and miss with every one of them (for gingerbread at least, I don't care for any 2.2 AOSP roms). Navigation definitely did not work.
I loved Evervolv and Savage but again, not everything works the way it should. Myn's is just the best daily driver. Battery life is phenomenal, I haven't been able to get more than 16-20 hours out of an aosp rom.
IMO (never h):
All the Sense ROMs are the same. They are just the same stock ROM with some heavy theming and maybe a custom tweak here and there ... but IMO if you're going to flash sense you're better off just checking the themes section and getting the look you want... because that's what they are.
Also keep in mind that Sense is likely a dead end as it is. I have doubts 2.3 will ever land on EVO .from HTC/Sprint... meaning it will never come to fruition in any Sense ROM. So it's a dead-end thing to support anyway.
AOSP is a different story. These are truly custom, already ahead of Sense if you're a version buff (2.3.3) and tend to run faster, smoother, and with A LOT less bloat. That said they aren't all flowers and rainbows either. Because they are actually scratch written they tend to not be feature complete (though team WIN is quickly changing that) so make sure you know what feature is missing and if that's a big deal to you.
That said, CM is the AOSP leader. It has the dev support, and most AOSP ROMs you'll notice are based on CM because they are nice enough to release under GPL rather than the default Apache agreement most others use. I like it for what it is, and it's the "best" if you like vanilla Android and want to follow what Google is doing with thier OS.
The other "best" IMO MIUI. It's behind CM in terms of the latest Android base (though GB is finally in the works), and it's closed source so it is missing things available in other AOSP ROMS ... but what it does bring to the table is amazing. It's better in battery, faster, the built in apps are worth paying for if they ever make it to market ... its an amazing ROM.
I secretly have wet dreams of MIUI and CM having an Android love child and bringing me my dream ROM ... until then I flip back and forth between the two.
I'm running a special rom called "dirk diggler rom" and if you want to use it deposit 500 bucks in my PayPal . P.S its better than any rom YOU will ever run on your evo lol.

The answer depends on your needs. For instance, I don't like the look of Sense but I also need 4G, GPS, Bluetooth and Camera working everyday. That limits me to a Sense based rom until CM7 stabilizes those things. For now, I'm getting by pretty well with Nonsense. It's not been updated recently and has minor flaws but the important things work for me everyday.
No one ROM does everything well. It's all about trade-offs. When you know your own needs, the filtering the choices should be a lot easier.

+1 on destroyer buddy! and its very stable!
In my experience with cm7 at least, scrolling in the browser and touch response has lagged for me compared to sense. Savage and evervolv seemed to be better but nothing comes close to the responsiveness using myns warm
