yeah it's strange, i looked on my t-mo account and the area designated to signing up for new services no longer shows my t-zones 5.99. I hear they have gotten rid of it. BUT, when i change my phone type(the pic in the upper right corner of my t-mo page) to a moto razor and go back into account/services, the 5.99 t-zones web shows up! So! try switching to a moto razor on your my t-mobile page and see if it is an option in the account/change services links and report back. I know when i last signed up for t-zones i did it from a non pda phone via the handset and the t-zones page. then i pulled the sim card and put it in my wing. once i set the proxy settings the full web was available. right now I'm using the epc.tmobile.com site instead of wap.voicestream.com. i've heard that this works even without a subscription to a data plan but will only be available for a limited time. start/settings/connections/manage existing connections/modem/edit/access point name/epc.tmobile.com..... good luck!
t zones hacks
ok after going round and round with tmobile with my wife's behold i had figured out something the 5.99 tzones does no longer exist it's price has been raised to 9.99. depending on the device that is going to be using the tzones depends on what plans are available, so the trick is to find the oldest phone you have and place your simcard within. then goto tzones and sign up for the lowest data plan. the plans are not tied to the phone once the plan has been purchased but it does look at the device that is being used to access the web. for example my wife has a razr and and a samsung behold the behold is a 3g device while the razr is a standerd gsm device. now according to tmoble the behold will not work on the standard gsm plan. but that is wrong once ya change the proxy to the standard gsm proxy 216.155.165.50:8080 it will work now mind you you will not be able to stream anything but ya can still surf just as well also the 9.99 is limited to 100mb. my plan stemmed from a sony erricson t19 long story short the data plan is independent of the device (with the exception for a blackberry) after it has been activated its tied to the phone number on the sim but to sign up it depends on the device
-rastlin
Actually if you use the epc.tmobile.com access, you do not need to set the proxy settings since there are no port restrictions.
And it may be just an illusion but I feel that it is much faster too.
So if I put my SIM card in say a Razr, change my phone to a Razr and the data plan to the 9.99 data plan, and switch the SIM back in my Wing, I'll have full internet?
But what's the deal with the bandwidth limit? It's ONLY for the 9.99 plan no?
corrrect if memory serves me, the 9.99 is the lowest amount one get for a dataplan but they cap it @ 100mb the 5.99 is grandfathered in now depending on whom you ask in customer support ya may have access to it then it depends on the person you speak to and what level they are at as an employee for all you know they may not have access to that screen so just keep askin...

T-Mobile Web $5.99 is now web2go $9.99
T-Mobile Web $5.99 is now web2go $9.99. Since changing from wap.voicestream.com to epc.tmobile.com the proxy is no longer required with either service. One is simply grandfathered, the other is new service. A word of caution, changes to your plan and services online at My T-Mobile may result in removal of T-Mobile Web without you being aware of it, so before you lock whatever changes you have made in it is imperative you make sure you're not removing T-Mobile Web. I called their web support and tech support and raised holy hell with them about this sneaky little tactic being put in just before you make the final click to submit to the changes online. I do know T-Mobile is unlimited as in exactly that, unlimited. There is a fair usage policy on all of T-Mobile's new data plans including web2go and as many know, data usage is now included on your bill.
so if i get the $10 plan i can do everything with it that i would be able to do with the $25 plan but i am capped at 100MB correct?
edit: i changed my phone to a razor v3 the tmobile support page but the 10 dollar data plan is not there only the hotspot plan is that the same thing because i dont think that it is.
t-zones and data plans
i too had this happen to me and just found out last week when buyin my new Wing. i currently own a Moto RIZR, which is a really nice slide phone. and i had t-zone web for 5.99 and used opera mini. i turned it off for a few months and when i looked it was the new 9.99 plan. i have all the services t-mo offers and 5 lines and very happy its all good i have the 9.99 plan now.
well on the plus side its beats paying the full price that they are asking for.

Confused
OKay, I have a 3g iphone with 2.2 firmware. I added the tmobile plan for 9.99 so that I could hack tzones and get full internet. I have put epc.tmobile.com in my apn but I still can't roam the internet. I can only use tzones like is meant to be used. It says my plan restricts me from going to those sites, that if I want to upgrade click on the link. Ahhh. I am really frustrated on how I can get t-zones hacked! Help me please!

well i dont konw about yall but i dont know much about the iphone it self since it is an apple product and i dont own any apple products, being the fact that they cost so darn much....

this is a thread for the herald or wing not the iphone, you might wanna post in the right forum
Thanks patspdaphone!!
So I have been trying to get more on my Wing than is probly possible but hey thats the FUN of it! When I did a hard reset and then soft booted before all the T-Mobile crap was installed it saved me like 6MB of space which is a lot for us Wing users! Anyway my point is when I stopped all the T-Mobile stuff from loading, I guess a part of all of that is the T-Zones and I am using the New TouchFLO Manila 2D so it needs to connect to GPRS in order to get the weather and internet Tabs to work. When I read your post that says....
PATSPDAPHONE -- "Actually if you use the epc.tmobile.com access, you do not need to set the proxy settings since there are no port restrictions.
And it may be just an illusion but I feel that it is much faster too."
I was very sceptical... BUT THEN I TRIED IT AND IT WORKS GREAT!!! AND FASTER I AGREE!! AND FOR ONLY $5.99!! Plus I dont have all that T-Mobile stuff bothering me like TZones links and Shortcuts everywhere!! Its like I bought a HTC branded PHONE!! Anyway I just wanted to say THANKS A LOT!!!PATSPDAPHONE!!!
2 questions.. the $5.99 or $9.99 plan your talking about, is it unlimited, and second, Does it allow all sites? Because if so, I can find an old tmo phone, switch sims just to get it, but wanted to check 1st.

Well I had the 5.99 T-Zones unlimited plan and never changed so I think im grandfather'd in if you know what I mean. I haven't checked too many websites but the ones I have gone to loaded fine... Do you have any specific sites in mind?
no, just in general.. Because, reading other posts, with the tzones plan, it would be just for tzones. I called them last week, the net for the wing is $24.99 now, for whatever they call it.. web2go because they are upgrading to 3G finally. (Although the wing is not a 3G phone..) But, I can't see paying that for internet on a phone, My DSL isn't that much.

Holy crap, it worked! Hopefully they won't change it for a month or two, but even if it's just for a week, it worked!!!
By the time I find things on message boards, it's all been long changed, outdated.
PS Ok, I might have gotten a little carried away I can get to my Yahoo e-mail by bringing up Internet Explorer, but nothing else other than T-zones. Oh well, I have a lot to learn, but I'm trying.
Lol, I've had the phone for 6 months, and didn't know I could get yahoo email of IE without a data plan. The Push feature takes too long, and after trying 5 or 10 sites to no avail, I just assumed I coulen't get to Yahoo mail either. I go via Yahoo fromt page, and for some reason it lets me connect there, then to mail.
If you have web2go, you can NOT use epc, you have to use wap.
On my Wing, under Connections:
Name it something
Modem type is Cellular Line GPRS
Access point name is wap.voicestream.com
User, pass, domain is all blank
Remove any type of proxy settings.
If you have t-zones $5.99, you CAN use epc.tmobile.com.
Hope that helps.
My sister really needs a new phone and is with T-mob USA. I was telling her to get the HD2 when it comes out, and she really likes the phone but she doesn't want to pay for the added internet plan. When I had my Shadow (1st gen) I was able to use the t-mobile lower internet plan (t-zones?) and using proxy server info I was able to use the internet almost 100% normal. There were only a few apps that were odd.
What are the chances that since this is still a WinMo phone it will have that ability? Is this something that can be figured out before the phone comes out? Also, if it did work, would it access 3g data?
Thanks for any help/info.
Nick
When the HD2 launches it will have a required data pack just like all other windows, blackberry's and android devices currently do. If a discount is recieved on the device then the data pack (minimum $25/month) is required, paying full retail price is the only way not to have it. T-zones is no longer offered by itself for $5.99/month unless your plan is a grandfathered plan that supports it but would only be able to be used if the phone was purchased at retail.

i use tmobile in uk if the proxy box is ticked my mail dosent load.
T-Mobile USA now uses the device IMEI for data plans
The proxy trick does not work anymore on Tmobile USA, they now use the phone's IMEI number to verify that the phone is on the correct data package. It works for about 24 hours now then when you try and access the internet you are sent to a screen to add the correct data package.
Proxy internet for HD2 on T-Mobile
I have T-mobile with the $5.99 T-Zones. I used it on the DASH and am now using it on a Touch VIVA. If I buy the HD2 from T-Mobile with no contract are they still going to force me to get a data plan or will my T-Zones stop working. I want to keep my T-Zones and may have to get an ulocked phone.

I'm currently with AT&T and about to switch to T-mobile when the HD2 comes out. When I spoke to the T-mobile rep., (trying to get him to set me up on the cheap data plans instead) He told me T-mobile can tell what phone you are using and know if it is on the correct plan. He also stated that if the phone is unlocked then you can trick their systems into letting you keep your old plan. Now again, I dont know if this is true or not, I am about to switch...hopefully this month, I'll find out then.
With AT&T, I have an old data plan (unlimited internet, 1500 text, 200 MMS) and I pay $19.95/month. they have never made me change my data plan and I am using the Tilt2. If you go through the priemer business website to upgrade your phone, they dont give you the $50 discount and you get to keep your data plan unchanged....all other channels force the upgrade with an updated data plan. Again, the only way around that is to buy your phone from someone else, unlocked, or have warranty dept. swap out your phone for a different model. My nephew has the $10 data plan and is now using the Tilt2 on it via warranty swapping out his phone for a different model (the Tilt2).
I know on the AT&T service you do get the 3g speeds, so I assume it will be the same for T-Mobile (but then again assuming may not be the best way to go). Hope that helped
I am pretty certain that my sister has a grandfathered in 5.99 T-zones package too. I am hoping that she can get it and use this way. The email not loading problem that adamo mentioned though doesn't sound good. Do the other internet based things work ok?

from what I was told, everything should work correctly and at the correct speed, as long as the phone is unlocked. The cell phone service providers don't seem to really offer different speeds at different rate plans like the cable internet companies do.
I had not seen your message from earlier ... we posted at the exact same time. Thanks though for your input. I will let her know. It seems like it is worth a try. Worst case scenario, she has a great phone but she has to use Wifi to check her mail and such.

Hey guys, I'm new here but I have some (nooby) questions. I'm currently using an iphone to tether my laptop using web2go from t-mobile. I got a g1 from someone and of course rooted and started tinkering with it so that I could get web2go to work on the g1.
My question mainly is if I port over say another android based os, like the droid eris os that is available, does that change the way the phone interacts with t mobile? Or would t-mobile still recognize the internal imei and not care about the os and settings? I'm mainly asking if I can port over another os onto the g1 so I can tether like I currently do.
I know there will be the people who say just buy the more expensive plans, but if I could I would. I'm tethering with these phones because I can't afford real internet!
Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
Tmobile will recognize the IMEI although I have used the wireless and wifi tether's both and not had a problem on Tmo.
wait you use the 9.99 web2go? What settings do you use? Because whenever I try it has trouble "finding internet connection" or whatever. although technically the internet should still be coming through right? It's just being subverted by the g1's software that requires the higher tier services?
If its rooted, just use the wireless tether app. You can find the link here and put it on your SD card. Download Linda file manager from the market and use it to install the tether apk. From there, you will change your phones 3G or Edge signal into a wifi one that your laptop can use. You can use that on any rom, and it doesn't matter wether its droid eris or stock. The only thing that tmobile can see is your imei and your radio version, not the rom.
ok I will try this tomorrow and get back to you. Thanks for all the help
well I tried it real quick right now and I guess I forgot to make clear whats going on. When using the G1 as opposed to the iphone, the web2go subscription gets subverted. So while web2go works with a proxy on the iphone, on the G1 it does nothing.
I have the tools to tether except the G1 / T-mobile subvert the internet. I wanted to know if this was based on imei or on a software lock. Because I have heard of people using their G1's with web2go I'm assuming it's a software lock. So if I use a rom of an os that can run web2go, will I be able to use it? or will the imei lock it out?

there's only really two different os versions. well, more, but two popular ones. 1.6 (donut) and 2.1 (eclair). does the g1 have a data plan? does it even have 3g? you say you just got it, so if you don't have 3g, there's nothing to tether. as for it not working - if you're rooted it will work. there's also a app on the market (for now) called easy tether. just use the free version.
edit: read top post more clearly - no. you can't tether if you don't have 3g. if you can, it's new to me.
one more edit: you can do what my friend did - take an old satellite dish, hardwire it to a router, and just connect a lot of wire clothes hangers to the satellite's receptor or.. er... thingy and steal wifi for like miles. ha ha.
The thing is web2go is a data plan that can access unlimited 3g through a proxy. T mobile wants users to use their strict g1 data plan, so any other data plans get shut off. I'm wondering if it's imei or software. If its a software lock then I can just install a different rom I'm guessing.
When I tether with the same data plan on my iphone i get edge speeds, the main reason i want to get the g1 working is so i can get the 3g speeds
Ok, then try this. Go to the tmobile.com website, sign in using your number and password (or create an account). When you get to the screen that shows you a picture of your phone, select the option right under the picture that says not my phone, then select any other 3G capable, non android device. That should put you in the clear for a few hours/days/weeks/months, or whenever they decide to check your account.
Ok I tried it but it still didn't work. I'm starting to think it might be the g1 software which is helping shut off the Internet. I'm going to install a new rom and hopefully I'll be able to set the settings for t mobile. Will keep u guys posted

Doubtful and if you are going to get a discount on the phone you need to get the $30 data plan.

No I don't think you can. You could even call t-mobile and ask them. Or are you trying to see if you could sign up with that data plan without them knowing its for your HD2? lol
it worked with my n900 but my hd2 could only get an edge connection with apn internet2.voicestream.com. epc.tmobile.com didn't work at all.
25$ here...but yeah the $10 will be a waste as it will be utterly slow and I doubt it will work properly.
The plans are all correlated to the OS, i.e. blackberry uses the BB internet plan, android the android plan, and WM the WM plan
yes you can use it.
you have to set the apn to wap.voicestream.com or epc.tmobile.com
I don't know about that, but there is a new $20 plan. It is for smartphones, but says "Preferred Smartphone Unlimited Web Only". I changed to this the other day and don't see any diffence from the $30 plan.
Of course you can use it; you're experience will be different however.
You will not be able to fully browse the web except when clicking on web2go links. You will not be able to watch mobiTV, use the barnes and nobles link or use any other data-related resources under this plan.
You can still use voice+SMS; it will continue to function as normal.
Yes it will work and it will allow you to use it on all the various programs like you would normally. I won't be 3G speed, i will be 2G speed.
just type the info via the apn and no u/n or p/w and you're there.
works on everything. mobitv runs a bit sluggish unless you are running over wifi anyway. Blockbuster and B&B download just fine
well, you guys are wrong, in fact I am still using my grandfathered tzone with 3g connection with my hd2, I had the touchpro before and also work.
using the $5.99 T-zone and works just fine, webbrowsing, utube, gmap,... you name it. For $6, I can't complain about the speed.
Yep...I concur with the last two posters, T-Zones ($5.99) plans works fine with the HD2. In fact, it worked right out of the box, no configuration at all was needed on my part. The $9.99 plan should work the same.

I am on the same plan and have no problems using anything. As matter of fact my tzones is 5.99.....The only issue I have is having a 3G connection consistently.....
Same here 5.99 t-zones working fine I usually get consistent 3g connections.
Besides, depending on where you are the $30 doesn't give you 3G either. I get a beautiful Edge (and a spotty one at that) connection at home (mind you I live in the middle of Miami, FL).

I think the problem is that tmobile locked an APN to the dell venue pro. we have to probably get access to the file system to change it.
read here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=885385
if anyone can successfully remove the stock APN and put in the new one, that may work...
i have a feeling tmobile is trying to hide their APN so that they can catch who ever is using Web2Go or TZones on this device.

Seems that you're sending the response via Nexus S. The question was whether Tzones or web2go is working on Venue Pro not Nexus S. I am guessing it is since Tzones works in HD7. But for Venue Pro users please confirm.
Nope. I have both Nexus S and Venue Pro in hand currently. Plan was to decide which one was best for me and test which (if any) continued to work with t-zones/web2go.
I am likely sticking with Nexus S. Love the Zune/Xbox interface but Nexus S is better fit for me.
i can confirm that web2go or tzones dont work with Dell venue Pro even with the APN set to:
internet2.voicestream.com
I can only conclude that the REAL APN is hidden and embedded in the OS so that regardless of what APN you input, you will always be using the stock APN tmobile has hidden in the OS.
Ive already tried wap.voicestream.com, internet2.voicestream.com and epc.tmobile.com and none of them worked. I also gave the phone a restart after each time I input a new APN and nothing has seem to make it work.
I am always redirected to a page that tells me I have to upgrade to another plan.
Stange thing is that my hd2 using darkstones SuperRAM can connect to internet2.voicestream.com works fine without a single problem.
I have a feeling that regardless of what ever APN we type, the phone will always use some stock APN that is hidden in the OS. I think tmobile did this so that we cant cheat their system.
Does anyone know of a programs so that we can get into the files and look more deeper into carriers info stored on the device?
Let work to get this working!

the "unlocker" has been released which allows sideloading of apps to the device. however, no such app exists that allows changing of APNs.
i do have a bit of skepticism for you though. by default, the APN t-mobile uses is epc.tmobile.com; it's the APN that is used in the "real" $30 android/blackberry/ data plan. sooooooo if epc.tmobile.com is not working and you have t-zones, then most likely, it won't work.
if you're on web2go, you wouldn't have gotten epc.tmobile.com to work anyway since web2go never ever supported epc.tmobile.com
Exactly. What I think is that buried inside the OS, tmobile has made Dell integrate the APN: epc.tmobile.com so that regardless of what ever APN you put, the OS would always refer to epc.tmobile.com.
People from the HD7 forums have gotten their devices to recognize and work with internet2.voicestream.com without a problem. So the issue must be the OS itself. It's obviously not hardware based.
I used web2go and my hd2 recognize internet2.voicestream.com without a problem. But as soon as I use epc.tmobile.com[, the hd2 tells me to switch to a new data plan.
See?
It's all in the APN, and I think that somewhere in the OS, tmobile has hidden epc.tmobile.com so that regardless of what ever APN you put, you'll always be referred to epc.tmobile.com.
Someone prove me wrong. And tell me you can get web2go or tzones to work on the DVP.

As stated earlier, epc.tmobile.com works flawlessly with tzones with other unlocked phones (Nokia, etc), so this should be a pretty easy hypothesis to disprove. Anyone with tzones able to get their DVP work?
I am on web2go which doesn't work with epc apn so I cannot help here.

if its so easy, someone would of already proved it wrong.
The question is simple: Can you use tzones or web2go on the dell venue pro.
i have the $10 web2go, and regardless of which ever APN i've input (and I tried them all), i cannot get data to work at all .I am defaulted to a page that tells me to upgrade my data plan.
ruprick, you're on web2go, how did you get urs to work?
I have t-zones on mine and data works great. I did not even have to put an EPN in. But my son has web2go & like everyone else it seeems with the venue pro, all 3 APN's do not work.

First off, I’m going to try to believe what you say, mister post #1, with very little credibility. But I don’t agree with you because of the following reason:
1. HD7 ‘s are working completely fine with the Web2Go plans… thus it doesn’t explain why the DVP can’t do it too.
The issue is most likely a software recognition issue.
Tmobile knows it and i think they're trying to prevent it.
Anyone know how to get into the file registry? I want to take a look!

I realize I have no credibility as I am a newly registered poster. I am only letting you know the facts of my experience and offering no opinion.
I am hoping that by letting this forum know my experience it will somehow help in the quest to get Web2Go plans to work on the Venue Pro.
Uh!I hate to say this, but I think dell has disclosed all DVP IMEI numbers to t-mobile thus filtering them away from any web2go or tzones plan.
I guess some of us are surprised because a non-branded phone is still tied down regardless if you bought it off contract.
Take a look at the nexus S, some have reported to have T-Z and W2G working. While others haven’t.
The only thing I can think of to really prove this is:
1) Look if there’s any info embedded in the OS by dell/tmobile
2) Spoof the IMEI- which is illegal. But WP7 is way too young to have such this developed yet.
What I still don’t get is that many users on the HD7 was capable of having tzones and web2go on their devices. Why can’t we?
This is ridiculous.

bbwalker noted above that his t-zones is working perfectly whereas web2go does not. but if you're right, and bbwalker is wrong, then i would advise you to return the device and simply get the hd7 :d
it's strange that a t-mobile branded device will allow t-zones/web2go but a device not sold by t-mobile directly will not. too funny
Bump! Lets find a way to make this work!
I have the $5.99 T-zone and data works with my dell venue pro. I don't have to change any APN. I just insert my sim card and data works instantly.
Are you surfing under 3G speeds or are you on edge speeds with your t-zone plan? btw, awesome. thanks for that proof. Now, I wonder if its just Web2Go that isn't working. Can anyone else confirm?

I got Web2go to work on my dvp 16g. Here's what I did.
1. Turn off WiFi. Why? Because when attempting to access the site, that's the message I got.
2. Use the URL HTTP://home.web2go.com.
I made NO APN change. Stock out of the box.
Could this be a data plan provisioning issue?
