Thanks

Let us know how it goes. The last person renamed the folder where the ROM was while flashing. not sure why... never good idea! After that, he gave up.
I'm hoping you can try it and tell us. Make sure WCDMA is on in the APN for 3G speeds. Good luck!
Specifically this:
clubtech posted the modem.bin for AT&T here.

If you're willing to test it, please let us know how it goes! I'm interested, but I'm scared that AT&T will screw up my current plan. They've done it before - swapped from iPhone 3GS to Palm Pre Plus, then back to iPhone 3GS - found out they switched to unlimited data, and didn't work on my iPhone. I had to call to have them switch back to an iPhone data plan.
Also scary - stuck a dumb phone SIM into my iPhone -automatically added iPhone data plan.
I'm grandfathered into the unlimited iPhone data plan, and don't want to risk it.

[Q] HD2 USA and AT&T

Hey I'm gonna buy a tmobile HD2 from a friend of mine and I want to know if it can be use with AT&T.
Also do I haave to get a data plan with this phone?
Yes it can be used with AT&T but you will not get 3G speeds due to the specific bands the phone has.
I have an international HD2 and am using it on AT&T without data plan because AT&T does not have the IMEI for my phone in their database and thus cannot automatically add the smartphone plan. I'm not sure if they have the T-Mobile HD2 IMEIs.
I too have an international HD2 and am runing it on AT&T. You can't use the T-Mobile US one - the bandwidth doesn't work on AT&T only an international version will work.
I was going to say the same thing they said
You can use an Australian HD2 with AT&T and get 3G speeds. Mine works just fine.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633404
I am running an unlocked TmoUSA HD2 on AT&T and it works just fine. Other than the fact that I have no 3G with this on the AT&T network. I am very happy with the performance since I live in an area with no 3G coverage at all. I have to drive 15 miles to get into 3G coverage area.
Yeah Baaaby AT&T .... not!!
When in the hell is AT&T going to take expanding their 3G coverage areas seriously? I wonder what it feels like to be the AOL of the cellular world, all those customers and so little speed. This really sucks bigtime!

Do not put your AT&T sim card into a T-Mobile HD2. They will automatically "upgrade" your account to $30/month blackberry data. I had a $10/month unlimited that disappeared and I can't get it back now.

That is not true.
I've been using my HD2 on ATT for 2 months now and my plan has not changed at all.

I used a T-Mobile HD2 for 5 months on AT&T without any problems except for no 3G. I used the $10mo data plan and still am. I now use a Telstra HD2 and enjoy full 3G coverage on AT&T. Both HD2's are unlocked and yes, the AT&T sim works fine. Just don't walk in to their store and expect them not to hammer you with the $30 data plan.
There's a real nice fellow from Australia that sold me my 2 HD2's. Very honest and reasonable. If you want his eBay ID, anyone can PM me and I will forward it. Beware of other internet store sellers! Some are selling the same phones for $100+ more and some people have been either screwed out of their money or have gotten refurb/used phones. Honesty is in short supply these days so be careful.
I unlock it... Just call T-mobile and ask for the pin that was yesterday and today got it by email.
Now the phone is for my girlfriend and I she doesn't have any data plan and she doesn't want any....Can this be done? have the phone without any data plan on AT&T?

if they happen to add it on there (by doing a maintenance sweep daily), give them a call and demand that they put DATA OPT-OUT on that line.
Thanks ill call before putting the don card in....I thought that it was mandatory with the phone.

It IS mandatory, that applies to ANY smartphone. Whatever you do, DO NOT tell them you are using any smartphones. iPhones are all in their database since they were the exclusive dealers for them so it's impossible (as far as I know) to use an iPhone on AT&T without them nailing you for a $30 data plan since all the IMEI's are pre-loaded in AT&T's system. At least with the HD2's and other non-AT&T branded smartphones, they don't have the IMEI's and can't just hit you with the data plan.
It's in their contract, any smartphone use requires a data plan. Of course, they also hit you for a tethering fee as well for the privilege of using tethering (computer to smartphone connection) even though there's nothing special about it nor does it use the data service any differently. Just another way for AT&T to stick it to the consumer.

Atrix on "Dumb" phone plan

Can I use an messaging phone data plan with an off-contract AT&T brand Atrix? Or do I have to wait for an unlocked international version with the right bands?
I have used this "cheat" before with WinMo phones and T-mobile phones (for edge data) but I have not tried it with a branded Android. Has anyone else had success with something like this?
Will it work if I set the phone to only use 2G data? Thanks!
No. As soon as the imei hits the network a data plan will be added. You gotta pay to play.
i used a an Nokia N97 NAM for about 8 months on a "dumb" phone plan. Maybe the Bell version or UK version Atrix can be used on a "dumb" phone plan??
not going to happen with the atrix
i put my sim car in
att knows it within minutes
how do i know they know ? they got a picture of the atrix in my account under my device when i logged into att.com
the bell desire z is your best bet (fastest as well) with using a dumb phone plan without getting charge

Yup. Was getting full 3G service. On the phone it actually displayed 3.5G
I signed up with a cheap samsung a777 (Blue), which was a 3G enabled phone. Had unlimited Data for $15/month
those were the days.
my parents and i are using iphones and tilt2 with the 10 dollar unlimited data plan. we got the phones off contract. it should work for u as long as u make sure to call in to at

<sigh> Guess I will wait for the Revolution on T-mobile....
ull get caught as soon as u put the sim in there lol
If you use a phone that AT&T doesn't sell it'll likely work because they won't be able to identify the phone model from the IMEI. If you use a phone that they do sell, they'll catch it immediately.

HTC Trophy on T-Mobile (I have searched)

Believe me, I have searched and can't find a definite answer.
Assuming I get an unlock code from Verizon, and run the Connection Setup, will the Trophy work on T-Mobile at 3G speeds? Yes or no.
If yes, will it work on Verizon again after that, or is it "banned" from their network?\
Hoping for an answer from someone who has actually done this before.
Thanks!

Yes, it should work, you may get 3G speeds, but not HSPA+ speeds.. I do believe. There have been others who have done it, they would know. Even if you get an unlock code, you can still use the phone on Verizon so long as the ESN remains clean. If you really want a Trophy on T-Mobile though.. I'd wager you are better off getting the GSM Euro model for full network speed.

Thanks for the input. Maybe some back story would explain it a little better. Debating on whether or not to switch to T-Mobile monthly 4g from Verizon, saving some money a month. I currently have the Verizon Trophy and wanted to try it out for a month to see how the service compares before I make the switch. Any other help is appreciated from someone who has done this before!
For me, the choice is clear: Verizon. T-Mobile's converge is vastly inferior, and for where I live, it isn't worth it (since T-Mobile is non-existent in this market outside of major cities).
Take a very close look at where you live, and where you travel on the coverage maps.
If you have Verizon and are on Unlimited data via 3G... for the love of God do not switch. lol Stay Grandfathered in and buy a 4G LTE phone outright (not via a plan) and your Unlimited data should carry up to 4G LTE.
Also remember, T-Mobile doesn't have IRL 4G service (LTE) and probably never will. It sounds like a great deal now, but switching might bite you in the ass, especially if your sitting on a Verizon Unlimited data plan. T-Mobile (and AT&T for that matter) run something I like to refer to as "the FAKE-G." Its HSPA+ or what the rest of the non-United States world calls 3.5G service. While AT&T is installing true 4G LTE towers, T-Mobile is simply trying to sell itself off instead of upgrading its network to compete.
Remember, the only real 4G is LTE.
If your on a metered Verizon data plan, it might be worth considering the switch (and shouldn't really change anything if you do). If you got Unlimited data via Verizon, don't even consider it. Wait for a 4G Windows Phone on Verizon and grab that when it hits at full price (even if it cost a pretty penny) and enjoy unlimited true 4G LTE data.
Read this for more information on keeping a Verizon Unlimited data plan with 4G. The only thing is, it doesn't account for the recently announced "truly Unlimited" T-Mobile plans, where they won't throttle your connection after 2GBs for some extra money a month that was just announced.
I'm not trying to sound like some kinda Verizon fanboy, but I want you to know some facts before thinking about switching.

[Q] AT&T Data plans for Nexus 4 - question

HI everybody
Being new in the USA I am not very familiar on the way the carriers tie different plans to different phones, it seems a bit strange to me.
So I have a N4 that I bought myself and my company IT manager requested the service with AT&T. My corporate data plan they put me under is called "Smartphone Unlimited Add-On". So far so good.
Now I want to take advantage of the Galaxy S3 subsidized by AT&T by making an upgrade. BUT my idea is to keep using the N4 myself, and give the S3 to my girlfriend.
The thing is that when I order the S3, the portal forces me to change the data plan. It says that the S3 is not compatible with my current data plan, and wants to change it to a plan called "Domestic and International Data for LTE 4G phones" (or something like that)
We all know that N4 is not LTE, and as I said I want to keep using it and give the S3 to my gf. Will the N4 work with this new plan that they are forcing me to change?? Is there gonna be any practical difference, or this plan tiering is just for marketing / billing purposes?
Thank you very much
Gonzalo

the n4 is lte, its compatible with band 4 lte, and i use lte every day. the thing is that you have to enable the lte(need a custom recovery or root). anyways, it sounds like they are trying plan tiering/or trying to get more out of your bill. anyways, im not on att, im with tmobile, so take my answer with a grain of salt
Thank you .
Yes I know the L4 unofficially supports LTE in band 4. This is T-Mo and not ATT.
However my question is the opposite... will the N4 (with no LTE enabled at all) work the same with a LTE plan? In other words, will it still work fine on HSPA+ with this plan?
Thanks

I don't really care much having LTE in my N4. I'm fine with HSPA, it works very well. The thing is that I am forced to change the plan in order to get the subsidized S3 for my gf
again thanx!
Allow it to make the change. The actual change doesn't happen until you activate the phone. So when you receive the phone, just call AT&T and let them know you will not be using the phone on your line after all and they will remove the pending data plan change.

Unfortunately the sm900v will not get 4g lte on AT&T.. you will only get 4g or h+.. doesnt work on At&t bandwidth. .
You can get 4g lte on Tmobile if you can change over..I have tested both tmobile and at&t.

So, if I'm hearing (well, reading) correctly, I can get 4G and HSPA on my Verizon branded Note 3?
I'm asking because I have GOT to get away from Big V. I can't stand the way they lock their phones. Not really interested yet in a new phone but will buy a full priced one that I can root and switch to AT&T or TMO come Feb '16. In reading this thread, it makes me think that I can get relatively high speed internet access through AT&T (they have awesome coverage in this area as well) that will allow for music streaming and basically, anything short of watching video with my phone (Verizon Note 3, Android 4.4.2) as is, with just a couple changes to the APN settings? Is that right?
Holy cow! This could change everything for me! Any other details I need to know? Any advice, info, what have you, would be appreciated!

I did the swap today and, according to my wife and the people at TMO, I'm getting data/text/etc... but no phone. It can't call or receive...
Any ideas? I'm stuck at ork and can't get to it right now - i'm using hangouts on the work computer and talking with her that way.
She says they say it's a root issue. I call BS on that...
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!
I'm an idiot....
She is too...
They are as well...
Phone works great. My wife forgot that they gave me a new number for the time being until the Verizon number was ported, which was why my phone didn't ring on TMO...
Google Voice is installed on my phone and when it detected the number wasn't right, it wouldn't complete the call...
And the folks @ the TMO store said my problem was that I was rooted! I got the hell out of there ASAP & fixed everything myself! Soon as someone says
"Oh, there's the problem! You're ROOTED!" run the other way!
Took care of all that and it's flawless!
Thanks for the great posting - this did all I needed and now I've got TMO and a HUGE data allowance for two phones at half the cost of less than that on Big V....
Bye-bye Verizon....!
