I was trying to install a new kernel so I could overclock, and I could not get it into recovery mode. I tried the normal, turn off+hold volume down key+turn on, method. I also used the boot into recovery mode option from CWM (Acer Recovery)
I thought it may have something to do with my other software issues causing issue, so I did a master reset. It got everything back to normal, reloaded my info and backed up info, and installed rootcheck (which confirmed root and busybox) and superuser, and CWM, and have the kernel on my sd card. I tried booting into recovery mode again and it wont work
The error I get is the little tranlucent android dude with the gears rolling and then suddenly the gears stop and I get the warning sign, yellow triangle with exclamation mark.
Anyone know why this may be?

Which kernal are you trying to install? Are you installing via cwm? What version are you running? Are you holding vol-key until after the Acer logo shows up and then keeping the vol rocker held until you see "booting recovery..."?
Have you successfully booted into recovery in the past?
thanks for the response. It seems the recovery image was corrupted or unknown according to cwm. i had to install the cwm one and it works just fine.
Great

Glad you got it working
Installing Acer recovery installer does not install cwm. You have to select cwm from the list and click install recovery. Sounds like you figured it out, though.

A500 not switching to recovery
I also have a new A500 which already had 3.2 stock installed and it has never allowed me to go into recovery mode. I can use iconiaroot and get to a certain point with that but to install a custom rom, I haven't been able to. I want to so any ideas? I did however get to install the Acer_A501_0.017.01_PA_ATT which is about as much progress as I have got. My thought was to downgrade first then install a custom rom like Taboonay but I can't get into recovery. Please help.

Why are you trying to get into recovery? What is it you are actually trying to do? If you are stock, then getting into recovery has little value, so it would help if we know what you're actually trying to do?

Why recovery
I am trying to install Taboonay. The way I see it from peoples post is that with a stock 3.2 the only way to install Taboonay is to be able to go into recovery. Do you have a better solution? Or anyone? There is alot of information out there. It's hard to sort through it sometime.

I now know that recovery is locked by the system and one has to change the update.zip file. Right?

In order to flash a custom rom, you need to flash a custom recovery (in this case cwm) flashing custom roms with the stock Acer recovery isn't possible without out the update.zip being signed by acer.

Read through these forms and you'll get the information you need. But, before you can install a custom ROM you need to root(#) your device first. Once you get root then you have to install CWM which is a custom recovery. The Stock Recovery that comes installed will ONLY install updates signed by ACER therefore it is worthless. That's why you need something like CWM.
Hope this helps,

Please do some reading mate as I can predict your future post....
You seem to have read through a bit of info skipping the main and most important parts. If you don't follow instructions TO THE LETTER your next post will be along the lines of "Help, I've bricked my A50*"....
Yes, thank you for replying, but no thanks. If your on here to help people, then help them. Learn some help desk manners.
If your on here to show your knowledge, then you have failed. The whole point of Linux is to help and contribute to a better os then what's available through retail. Careful or the point will get lost in translations.

Boot animation works great' but when i push the home button it says system ui stopped unexpectedly. I really like the new buttons though. Tried installing again to no avail. How do i fix it and keep the buttons?

Check the taboonay thread, vache stated he fixed the problem. Kitchen has been fixed, just re-cook what you want and flash

Yes it's fixed indeed.
Just cook again ;-)
I'm about to give up hope on root. I think I messed something up with my lack of experience. Here's the story.
Rooted and everything went well. Installed clockwork and taboonay 2 with villian and everything was going great. Then I tried the cookbook thing on taboonay. And got a system UI failure constantly. So I decided I had made a mess of my sdcards trying to figure things out. So I was going to reset everything back to factory, to include clockwork, and start over. I used clockwork to restore things back to before I put on taboonay and villian. Then, without thinking I unrooted the tab before changing clockwork back. I moved my backups from clockwork to my computer and formatted my sd cards. Now the tab won't reroot. I tried to move my backup files back to path sdcard/clockwork/backups but clockwork says it can't find them. How do I get clockwork to find my backup files? And if I restore to a point the tab was rooted, will it again be rooted? How do I reset everything back to factory and start over?
think I figured it out. Rooted again anyway. Is there an easy way to reset everything at one time? Including recovery?
As far as I know the answer is "NO".
You may restore kernel and OS with a nand backup/retore and you can flash the recovery in tree ways : adb, zip, Acer Recovery app but not all at the same time.
First thing to do :
install the recovery
then flash kernel and rom from sdcard or you restore a nand backup.
Your clockwork backups should work if you put them back in the /clockworkmod directory of the external SD card. Did you pay attention to the directories structure ?
For Thor recovery, the path you mentioned is wrong to me.
On the external sd it should be :
/clockworkmod /backup/[date of backup]/*
The [date of backup] is like : 2011-08-26.20.00.12
(date and time)
id pay for an app that did it if anyone has any ideas.... OK. I got clockwork off. I'm going to unroot again and reset the whole thing again and start over.
I 've edited my previous post, will this help you ?
yes, very helpful. Got everything put back together, and even got the mods from taboonay cookbook working. You all are awesome. Learned more from xda in two days than two years of college. Ofcourse, that probably says something about my effort in college. Ive got another question though. Think im going tonstart a new thread for it. Ive got adfree on my tab. Every time it blocks an ad it puts the little green android picture in where the ad should be. Wouldnt it be cool if you could personalize that pocture that pops up? Is that possible?
Well this evening I got fed up with the stock ROM and decided since I am close to my upgrade date I'd take a swing at installing Cyanogen 7 for Droid X. I first made a backup of my original system and then installed CM7. The install went fine and the phone booted into CM7 for me. It was suggested that with Clockwork I could do an advanced restore and restore all the apps and settings that I had on my phone previously so at this point I decided to do that...and this is also where things went a little side ways.
I just selected data only restore but now when I attempt to boot up the phone starts to load CM7, but reboots after a few seconds of loading. I have booted into the Motorola recovery manager and attempted to apply the update.zip (CM7 install file) on my SDCARD using this method, but it fails due to a signature error. At this point I am not sure what else I can do to get this problem worked. Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
whit3fir3

You should not restore data on cm7. You need to get into recovery and wipe data.
Strange happenings going on with my Nexus S.
It has been rooted for a while and have been running Genexus S 2.0 ROM which was fine to start with but I have recently been getting lag issues with the screen, issues with character selection on the keyboard etc.
However, I have had a few crashes when the phone has been charging and the phone is being not just hot, I'm talking boiling to the touch!
I have rebooted into recovery but....recovery img and boot img have disappeared. They have been present in recent weeks but for some reason they have disappeared.
I have reinstalled clockworkrecovery via ROM Manager a couple of times but there is still no change. TBH I'm sick of the issues I've had with the phone since rooted and it's not for me so plan on going back to stock whenever I can, however, I need recovery!
Can anyone point me in the right direction to sort this out and if possible not by plugging my phone into a PC. I am away with work and don't have my own computer for a while.
Thanks
you can always flash the boot recovery back into the phone, just follow any of the how to root guides

its because you installed your recovery via rom manager. you want to reflash your clockwork recovery through fastboot so that it will stay permanently. look in the development section for instructions.

i got to say that youre the only xda mod, that i know of, that also helps out people with issues and not just xda/site stuff. thank you!
Thanks for your help guys.
I flashed the cwm recovery via fastboot and loaded up cm7 but each new ROM I used (that had been there previously) didn't boot into a fresh version, it had elements of the previous versions I had run such as MIUI (the clock), the Genexus S 2.0 drag and drop lock and wallpaper and some elements from The Infinity ROM. Very strange.
Prior to the latest mix up the phone had become very unstable, especially the touch screen and I am not exaggerating when I say the phone just wasn't usable. I even considered getting a BlackBerry Torch 9810!!! I mean wtf?!
Anyway, I have reflashed a stock nandroid backup via CMW and relocked the bootloader. I had a few permission errors but when I rebooted that seemed to go away. I'm now quite happy I'm back to standard because of the reliability issues I experienced.
When I reboot to recovery it comes up with a White box with an arrow coming out with the android at the side of it. Is this normal or should there be a standard recovery img? However, I have noticed if I press the volume up and power again it goes to a purple recovery screen with wipe cache partition, factory reset etc.
Also, all my ROMS and Titanium Backup files are still viewable from recovery, is that usual? Would I be ok to mount as USB and delete those individual files?
Thanks
When you switch roms you MUST wipe data factory reset, wipe cache, wipe dalvic cache. Then flash the new rom.

Hi,
I had Stock LG G2 Firmware, installed root, twrp and used the phone for months.
A few days ago I installed a custom kernel, and I used Flashify to flash the new kernel, and saw Flashify has an option to backup the current Kernel.
I used it, and indeed today I decided to go back to the stock kernel because the new kernel was not charging properly. (Slow)
Now, After flashing the stock kernel with Flashify, the phone won't boot, won't go into download mode, won't go into recovery (TWRP)
And I get an error message :
Secure boot error / Boot certification verify
Now, when I connect the phone via usb to my windows 7, it doesn't recognize it even though I have the drivers.
Instead I get lots of small mass storage drives which windows wants to format (no thanks)
And in ubuntu I get lots of popups for unmountable partitions. Dbus-daemon and compiz go crazy at 50% cpu each and I can't do anything because the computer locks up from heat and resource exhustion.
HELP please.
I'm fine with bash and linux, but I need someone to help me get a bit further from this point.
Cheers,
Eitam.

D802 from Taiwan, sorry for not specifying this earlier.
So, I kept at it, apparently i'm an idiot.
Instead of using dconf-editor to disable automount, I tried using gconf-editor (Doh!!!!!)
Eventually was able to use Ubuntu LiveCD to flash according to this thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
Even after flashing, same problem with secure boot error etc.
I then tried to factory reset, and got TWRP!
I have a TWRP backup from a few days ago. Restoring now.
Damn it takes lots of time.
Everything is back and working.

i have the same think. i dont have unlimited internet connection right now. so i cant repair my phone. can i ask you one question. if i have a backup of the stock rom can ı restore it after ı get in twrp. and did you use the exect same method? or did you send different files to the phone? thnask a lot.
ps: i had cm11-m8 isntalled.
I used that method, and I was on stock and restored stock.
I think I used the files in the thread, but It was a long time ago so I don't remember.
Sorry for you that you have to deal with this - but atleast you know you can get out of it! Also, once you have twrp running, I think you can use some method to flash stock rom even without the backup.
