My phone was rooted and running a lag fix and was working fine untill i saw a cool theme that i wanted. I tried to flash it but it bricked my phone enstead. I was able to get it back buy following some instructions using odin. I got it back but without avitar, sims, and media hub. Now it also restarts over and over when i have my wifi on. I turn wifi off and it stays on. Is there a fix for what is going on? and is there any way i can get back avitar and the media hub. If not im going to take the phone back. Its not rooted anymore so it should not be a problem. What kinda of warrenty does to phone have i bought it the day it came out?
you get a one year warranty against factory defects. just call t-mo and tell them your phone keeps boot looping. they'll send you out another one in no time

Maybe people should take responsibility for their actions instead?
Can I just go to tmo store and get a replacement or is it something I need to call on

If you're past the two week grace period you can go into a store, but they will just order one for you there. Even with insurance they won't hot swap you at the store.
Use Odin again and QUIT MESSING WITH YOUR PHONE. Why are you all encouraging the op to get a replacement?

You did this to yourself, YOU are responsible! don't try to scam T-mo into giving you a new device for something YOU did.

You would be committing fraud which is a crime. Anyone who advises you how to do it would also be committing a crime.
How about you ask how to fix the problem and I'm sure people well versed in Odin will walk you through the fix.
Thanks for helping to drive up the cost of the phones, much appreciated. You VOIDED the warranty by rooting it, deal with it, not expect the rest of us to subsidize your phones.
do people not read disclamers? the devs clearly tell you that your phonw might blow up, so take responsibility for what you do to your crappy phones and man up.

Will t-mo replace defect unit if you bought it from ebay?
people REALAX. I went to tmobile and told them what i did and they said the root that i had done DID NOT MESS WITH THE WARRINTY. And that i should have brought the phone in before doin anything to it. I have INSURANCE and I will get a new phone tomarrow. Now the guy that helped my had the same root on his vibrant and that he would not have done it if it did mess with the warrinty. So I come on here for some help and you guys toss me under a bus. I never said i was going to LIE TO TMOBLE i would not do that. I still had to pay 130 bucks any way.
Yea, so suck it you war mongers. LOL

Your friendly neighborhood tmobile hacker boy may have taken it back but the policy has always been very clear that rooting your phone will void your warranty. Regardless of whether they took it back or not, the fact remains, you broke it and you want someone else to eat some of the responsibility for your actions.
I told them that i was the one that messed it up so i did not lie to them. I filed a claim with the insurance and they said as long as the type of root that i did was a small one that even though i messed it up there concearn is the warrinty of the phone. its not like all of you are these saints. I did nothing wrong. The insurance could have declined the claim but they did not they just said that i problably should not do it again and that if it did happen again for the same reasone that they would reject the claim. So i did not have any friends at tmo or the insurance. So im all done with this now. Beside all of you have rooted any way so let my say that i hope it does not happen to you.
So.. I've been fiddling with my phone on and off for a bit... I mostly run stock, ive tried a few roms here and there but they never made me so excited that I'd flash every version and such... I had gotten my phone from my uncle and sprint basically told me to hit up samsung for warranty. When i slide my keyboard down the touchscreen will occasion stop working.. Sometimes after rebooting from that I lose my email settings and such. I've had to odin it 2 or 3 times now to get the phone even to run after shutting it down.. so very frustrating.. So i decided to contact samsung through there online support.. seemed fast and easy... until they end and they told me to contact the galaxy s support line, they cant help over the internet :/ .... I called in at 7:10pm EST... its now 8:28.... im shocked my phone hasnt dropped the call (maybe the airrave helps ) Really samsung? really? Anyone know anyway to get a hold of samsung support quicker?
i know this is a question, but really more of a rant... Im still sitting here at 836.. and i really have to pee now... gahhh samsung! Making my bladder hurt too!
If they have a chat service, possibly that?

Yeah thats what i said I did.. here is the log
Sheila: Hi, thank you for contacting Samsung Technical Support. How may I help you today?
Visitor: Yeah, I had an Epic 4g given to me as a gift and sprint told me to contact samsung since I didnt purchase it directly from sprint
Sheila: May I know the question you have for me on Epic?
Visitor: I am having an issue where the touchscreen stops working when the keyboard is open. Sometimes the touchscreen even after closing will still not work.. I have also been losing my stored email accounts and have had to factory reset it every week or so as directed by sprint support.
Sheila: I am sorry for the inconvenience being caused to you.
Sheila: Since how long you were experiencing this issue?
Visitor: about two months now, sprint kept putting me off seeing if they would handle the warranty and they finally told me to contact samsung directly
Sheila: I see.
Sheila: Have you tried any troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue?
Visitor: I know its less then a year old since the phone has not even been out a yar, but they didnt care since i didnt purchase directly from them myself
Visitor: Ive done a factory reset almost every week
Visitor: and they had me do something in recovery
Visitor: i also took it to the sprint store and they said they reloaded it
Sheila: I see.
Sheila: Do you have a screen protector cover on the phone?
Visitor: no
Visitor: I hate those things
Sheila: Okay.
Visitor: and it only happens after i slide the keyboard open
Visitor: to shut it down i have to hit the power button and then use the arrow keys on the keyboard
Visitor: The last time i tried pulling the battery it stopped booting and I had to take it to the sprint store
Sheila: As you have performed factory reset on the phone it clearly indicates that the issue is with the phone's hardware and it needs physical diagnosis in order to get it fixed.
Sheila: I see.
Visitor: The issue I see from your website is that this was a gift to me and I have no receipt
Sheila: However, not to worry, please file a service request for the phone, am I sure you will get it fixed by our service technician.
Sheila: You need to contact our voice support team to file service request.
Visitor: Ok
Visitor: Am i going to have to go over this with them again or is there a case number
Sheila: You need to just explain the issue and troubleshooting steps you have performed they will process you further for service request.
Sheila: You can reach them at 1-877-EZ2GALAXY (1-877-392-4252).
ok.. didnt take it to the sprint store the last time.. i odined it
well i give up with samsung... 2hrs 37minutesd on hold
Since the phone is under a year old and I'm assuming hasn't been dropped take it to a Sprint repair center, they don't care where you got it from and they should repair it for free or at most $35.
I went to sprint corporate store and repair center.. they sent me to samsung :\
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yay 3.5 hours at the sprint store... about 8:55 before they were closing they gave it back and said it was fine... funny thing was that the touchscreen was not functioning with the keyboard closed and I handed it right back... tech didnt believe it... they changed my screen for $35 and it seems i have a whole new body and they put on a screen protector for me ... took them another hour.... no one liked me keeping them there to almost 10
Recently a few weeks back i had messed with my "atrix" a little to much and ended up HARD BRICKING My device from reverting back 2.3.4 to 1.83 sbf file etc and i sent to Motorola and they send me a replacement unit.. Reason i'm posting is because apparently they replace if you have a hard-brick they did for me.
why is atrix in quotes?
Tell
What do u you tell them
I had the same thing happen and I told them that it screwed up doing the ota update.
They didnt see the software and how long did it take for them to send you a new one
They saw that it was updated to 2.3.4 but still sent me another phone. It took about 3 weeks to put it in the mail and get it back.
The fact u were the able to brick with all the warnings is astonishing. I worry less about moto honoring it as I do AT&T. AT&T looks for any reason is drop their end of agreements u pay for.

Isn't just a bunch of Hispanics in Mexico that repair the phones? I'm guessing they probably care less or really even know about all of that stuff.
Careful... warranty is notorious for putting "znrp" soc code on your account and next bill you will see $150 charge for equipment returned damaged. if they check it that is... seen it before at work... just saying.

I bought an AT&T S4 32gb from ebay brand new a week ago. It was working well & it was never rooted or custom rom installed.
I slept & woke up & this phone wasnt responding to anything i do. No boot or power at all, checked battery it looks fine & voltage output is 4.21.
I didnt open the phone, though it never got water/liquid damage. Another thing strange is its not even heating up from any side.
Wrote this thread in hope, if anyone has had in this situation & made it work again.
Im truthful to every line i wrote. Need solutions.

I dint get it...why cant you claim warranty? Warranty is for devices that were once working fine but no longer are. Warranty is through samsung themself not your carrier...so it shouldnt matter how you got it you should still have up to a year to file warranty

As I said, i bought from "ebay.com" seller, that isnt helping as the seller states, it was working when he sold to me & he doesnt wanna help. Yes you are right but i can only claim warranty if i stay in USA & if i have the receipt, which i dont have. I cant claim warranty locally as its an AT&T phone which is only sold in US.
The way around is to make it work.

I have to call Samsung USA tech support i guess ?? But will they help i will be calling from INDIA.
Samsung doesnt want to help if he is outside the usa because it is the usa based device so they will only service it within the usa I believe via UPS mailing since they ship back only to a usa address.
Why don't you open a ebay/paypal claim to get your money back?

Making a claim will be unfair i think, cuz it worked well for the past week.

I don't think it is unfair. You paid for a product that obviously was defective as it died randomly. If I buy a item from a store I expect to work, not die randomly to suck it up. Even though its a used item, you shouldn't deal with issues that perhaps the previous owner did not tell you.

It should still be covered and you can print your Paypal receipt as proof that it was brand new if the title of the auction says brand new. I think it should be covered. You will need to register it with Samsung for warranty service. Toucan do that on their website. You probably won't even have to mention where you bought it.

He is India and bought a device only covered for warranty within U.S.A terrority by law. They wouldn't be forced to service an out of country warranty. Same deal happened to my friend in europe with a U.S.A tmobile s4. He ended up shipping it to me so I could ship to them.
Then again its soley by Samsungs choice. He could try contacting their international department to see if they'll honor it for him.

They may service it for him. I'd play with it more. Its unusual for a phone to just die like that but something could have shorted out in it. I don't know how good the electricity in India is.
I say give it a try. Call sammy and also file a claim with PayPal. He should stand by his product.

Im really disappointed at your suggestions, making a paypal claim is my last resort.
As previously, i bought a captivate which died the same way after a month, of i did claim thru paypal i ended up losing both phone & money.
Yes Samsung may help, international samy will not bother to help & if its USA samy i must have to call from a valid US no. right?
Hello Febby, u gave me a good suggestion, ur frnd sent it to u, but can i as im limited by the person i know in USA.
Frankly, i just wanna try something myself, to make it work & btw electricity is good, but its a little costly where i stay & power cuts are limited.
My S4 screen cracked, they never asked for a proof of purchase (but then again, they took my $200 to fix it). Maybe look into something like VIAddress, they provide a US address for you to tell companies to ship to and they'll forward it to a big number of countries for some fee.

OK viaddress are they reliable, how much time do they take. They didnt ask cuz u paid for it, mine is diff then urs, as its totally dead... no response at all. They might ask
I've never used VIAddress, but I've sold several thing on eBay to people who used almost identical addresses that went to this freight complex in an pharma/industrial part of our country, New Jersey. One person was Chinese and the other Russian. So I'm guessing they used this or another forwarding service... it must be good if they used it.
True, Samsung might ask you, but I think the warranty will stand by serial number and not owner. I've sold a Galaxy S3 to someone and AT&T at least, assured us that there would be no problems with the other guy making a claim.

Okay, so I have a Galaxy S4 from AT&T purchased around September 2013 at a Best Buy. I originally bought this phone off Craigslist, but the guy did not give me any documents besides the box and accessories. So no receipt. I read on XDA people claiming warranty and asking about how to unroot. I'm not rooted or anything, I am basically using this phone like how Samsung and AT&T intended it. My question is, how does one go about getting it repaired or replaced for warranty? I know from Apple you can walk into a store and walk out with a replacement refurbished phone. Am I supposed to just call up Samsung and say I need a second-hand phone repaired? I mean I can't really call AT&T because this phone is technically with a different account, correct? And Best Buy didn't sell the black tie program with this phone, so no use calling them.
Thanks in advance. (btw, my phone isn't broken, I am just asking for future reference.)

Very easy, just go to the samsung website and chat with an adviser if you have a problem. They will walk you through general troubleshooting and then if that doesn't fix it, you can send it on for repairs.
I bought a used GS4 off CL and sold it to a guy. Didn't test out the camera but he told me camera did not work. After troubleshooting and researching online, it appeared to be a hardware problem. Logged on, they checked the serial number and saw that it was manufactured in Jun of this year, so still under warranty. They printed a 2 day shipping label for me, repair took about 3-4 days, then they sent it back working UPS 2 day!
awesome. not as convenient as apple, but if its that easy, cool thanks.
