[Q] sense notification icon change - HTC Aria General

wondering if this will work if resized for aria
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-droid...-transparent-notificatoin-bar-lockscreen.html

I'm not sure you even need to resize it. Do a nandroid backup and go for it. You can always return to your backup if it doesn't work.

Those look great too bad you have to sign up to get them.
wonder if they are posted else where like rapidshare or mega upload

CyanogenMod MMS not resizing photos

I was told in the main CM thread that starting a new thread about this issue specifically is more likely to get attention, so here it is.
In the last 4 version of CM on my Nexus One (5.0.5-5.0.5.3), the MMS app is not resizing the photos taken with the camera app. When I go to get details on a photo that MMS is trying to send, it shows that it's anywhere between 600kb and 1000kb, clearly too large to send through AT&T. When I flash back to the stock rom, the MMS app resizes these same photos and they go through every time.
I tried sending an MMS earlier today with no luck, I'm on 5.0.5.2
I thought it was something i was doing wrong :/
I have the same problem
I guess we'll have to wait for 5.0.5.4...
I have the same issue. The only workaround I found was to use Handscent SMS instead of the built-in messaging app.

This is what I'm currently doing. Two things that suck about Handscent (from what I can tell). 1) It compresses the pictures to VERY small, so they actually look pretty lousy on a phone with a high resolution display. I think it compresses them down to 11kb. 2) Handscent doesn't send video.
This has been an issue with CM since the initial release. i switched to using Handcent as well.
Have you gone to the Settings menu in the Messaging App? From there go all the way to the bottom and Select Custom User Agent. Try selecting different ones and see if that changes anything.

I have tried all the user agents, none of these settings affect the size of the file being sent so it does nothing for this problem.
Any luck using chompsms?
i've had trouble with both reg message app and handcent....just reporting...HAHA
uh yep. same problem here. super annoying.
hopefully Steve has seen this and will look into it. I have played around with it a lot over last two days. It seems very random, works, then doesn't. I dunno....See if Steve mentions anything in next ROM update changelog, lets all hang tight, he's never let us down!!
chompsms has worked best in resizing mms and such
much prefer it to stock and handcent overall in use as well
I don't think this has anything to do with the CM ROM as I get the same on stock and from what I've read everyone seems to have the same issue.
There are other posts on here about this as well as on Googles Nexus help forum.
I struggled with the same issue. Firstly, as already pointed out, this is not an issue with Cyanogen, its the stock SMS app that is the culprit.
The solution is to edit your Mms.apk and hopefully Cyanogen will implement this fix in a new version.
Just use whatever binary editor on your OS to edit mms_config.xml which is in mms.apk. The limits are clearly visible as ASCII text in there. As the limit is 1048576, you need to make that 0307200 to be on the safe side. I also edited the resolution, 1024x768 would seem plenty for an MMS. The result is that out going messages here are around 100kb when resized and it never hits that 300KB limitation.
So start with unzipping the Mms.apk, then edit the file called mms_config.xml, and just zip it back up again.
Again, hopefully this fix can be implemented in the next Cyanogen version
cyanogen said that hes thinking about making the messaging app be configurable so we can choose which size the app does.
thanks for the tip Untouchab1e, but when i tried to unrar the file opened the xml file, edit with dreamweaver, changed the file size and the resolution (i did 800x600 though), but i rar it back up and rename to apk. Doesnt work. Am i doing something wrong?
EDIT
Well my current workaround for now is, download picsay (free) from the market, open picsay, tap get picture, open the picture you want, hit normal, hit menu button when the picutre is showing (menu on the 4 keys at the bottom) hit export, tap on save to sd card. after the picture has saved, open messaging app, attach a picture, open the picsay folder, select the picture and send. delete the picture from picsay if needed.
Any kind developers willing to recompile the Mms.apk with the edited xml file? I changed the file myself with the recommended settings, but I haven't the programming background to even begin to understand the process of putting the apk back together (everything I read about it gave me a headache).
Here's the zip file that contains everything, which technically just needs to be converted into an apk.
+1 here.
This is the biggest Problem for me with CM-Rom...
Its impossible to take a Picture and send it via MMS.
Iam 100% sure that the Picture-Resizing is working on Stock-Rom.
Please dont get me wrong, iam really happy with CM's Rom but iam wondering why Cyanogen didnt fixed this since the first release because its something like a "Basic-Feature" but it seems to be more important to have fancy color LED-Notifications...
Cyanogen, please fix this soon
It appears this is fixed in the upcoming 5.0.6 ROM, or at least it is in the test version.
You can also push the older 5.0.4.x version to get it working in 5.0.5.x, instructions are here.
I have a feeling that these settings only affect those using the Nexus One on AT&T, and since CM's ROM's are used by people in numerous countroes and various networks, it would make sense to keep it open for those carriers to allow larger pictures. That's just my guess though.
I tried 5.0.5.6 briefly just to test this and the results seemed to be the same. I'm going to try pushing the older version, but I don't want to lose the black background. I think it's slick.
Edit: Just reverted to the 5.0.5.4 MMS file as posted above without theme options and it's still not working. I also forgot that the old and stock version of this app have that inconsistent behavior when pressing the back button (sometimes you load all threads, sometimes you get kicked back to the home screen). Nandroid restoring now...

Looking for best practices for moving from one ROM to another. Any easy way?

With all the great new ROMs out there, I am trying to figure out the best way to go about backing up and restoring my apps and all of my settings.
I do Nandroid backups, and those work find as a "snapshot" of my Hero. But is there any easy way to back up and restore all of my apps or settings in one fell swoop, without affecting the installed ROM?
I'm trying to find the best way to move from one DamageControl ROM to another, for instance. My current procedure would be to back up the phone, wipe it, then flash the new ROM. From there, I would have to use AppMonster or something to restore my apps. The downside is that that would have to be done manually, and plus I would still be without all of my custom settings.
So is there any easier way to go about this? I have tried flashing a newer DC ROM on top of an older one without wiping, and this seems to work okay sometimes, except for I tend to have a lot of quirks with the new installation then -- force closes and things of that nature.
Anyway, I'm sure you guys have developed some pretty smart ways to go about switching from one ROM to another without having to manually set things up each time, and I'm just trying to find out what's most efficient.
Thanks for your time!
I use titanium backup, I believe it lets you backup personal data as well not a 100% but pretty sure.
I just wipe each time, and install whatever ROM is the flavor of the moment.
I have a couple of Nandroid backups on my computer though.
Thanks for the info. I might give Titanium Backup a try...

Mybackup works great for backing up contacts and some settings as well as your apps. You get 30 days free trial I think.
if your using Damage's latest, you may want to avoid Titanium as it seems to be breaking the audio....
Check out a program called Android Commander it backs up apps to your computer. I really like the ease of use, plus it makes editing the phone files easy. Check it out!
partition your SD card and get a rom with Apps2SD(A2SD). Than when you flash a new rom the app .apks will still be on your sd card data (unless you cleared ext3 partition in which you should mount your phone via usb and make a copy of the ext3 folder on your sdcard that you have from partitioning ur sd card via RA and have apps2sd running, now to the app that makes all this come together is this simple app i found on the market called "installer" download this one app from market and launch it, what this app does is scan's your sd card for every single .apk file and puts them in a nice neat list(with icons) than you can simple click on it and choose to install. this is a must have!
I'm using TitaniumBackup on fresh's newest and it works amazing for me.

Have you tried it going from a 1.5 rom (Fresh 1.1 in this case) to a 2.1 ROM (Fresh 2.0d)?
I tried it on my wife's phone last night. After the restore sense was stuck in an FC loop and I had to wipe and start over. I ended up restoring her 1.5 nandroid so she would stop giving me evil looks and contemplating my death.

Nah I've been on 2.1 since the eris leak lol. But were you restoring everything? try doing apps first and see if that works, then one by one doing the data it might be something you can pin point and avoid.

When I did my phone I had no issues...I was like you and was on 2.x from the Eris leak. My wife though doesn't like her phone to be 'tinkered with' (I wonder if that has anything to do with me cursing and screaming when I first bricked my phone with the RUU? But I digress), so she's coming from 1.5 (Fresh 1.1). In any event I tried what you suggest already...the apps install fine. It's when I restore the app settings (only the app settings, not system) that everything goes boom. She's got 120 apps. I'm not going through them one by one, so I'll probably just tell her she's got to live with a nuke and pave if she wants to upgrade. Since she'll likely have the same problem if/when the official Sprint release comes out, I doubt I'll have much trouble convincing her to let go of some of her crap.
My major issue is restoring her text messages at this point. I know that the 1.5 ROMs uses a different database format than the 2.x series. So I'm going to take a guess that I won't be able to save those.

120 apps! Lol, but I might be able to help with the text messages thing, I just found on the market an app called SMS Backup. It actually backs up all your sms to your gmail account in thread form. Its pretty sweet and runs in the background each time you get a message it just uploads it to your gmail account silently. I had the same issue I was just getting sick of everytime I flashed I would loose all my messages at least now I have them backed up somewhere and better yet its in a place where I dont have to worry about running outta space. So overall it might be a better option I read alot of people saying they arent paying attention and a threaded sms reaches 2k+ then their phones start to lag and it wont delete them. Just an option, but its a pretty kick ass app you should check it out.

I'll take a look at it. But if I understand what it does, it will only get new stuff that comes in, and won't be able to be restored to the messaging database, right? If that's the case she won't go for it. She's 'purist' about her phone (she's great, and I love her to death, but a tech geek she isn't. She just wants it to work, work like it's stock, and not give her problems...a viewpoint I can understand, honestly ).

Lol, I understand. I haven't tried restoring to be honest but I think theres another one similar out there called sms backup and restore or something like that that dumps all the sms into an xml file and allows you to restore it again. Not sure I haven't used it, just read about it in passing and looked it up on the market. But thats always another option.

Save scenes?

Is there a way to save a scene on the Incredible? If that were possible, combined with Titanium Backup, it'd be completely painless to flash a new ROM or install the OTA and have your phone back to the way it was.
TIA.
Not that i know of. I wish i could help more, but i have been trying to remove sense since day one.
EDIT: i think you can, but im not sure. I think it prompts you when you select it.
Sent from my Incredible using XDA App
Do you mean the "scenes" as in ones you make yourself similar to the ones that are preloaded, like "work" "play" "social" etc.?
If so Click menu>scenes>save (option at bottom) The save option will only be there if the scene is new, and has not already been saved. Hope this helps
Thanks for the replies guys, that works fine for general saving of Scenes - but what if you flash a new ROM over your old one? Assuming it's still a Sense ROM, is there any way to then automatically go back to the way your homescreens were before? Similar to the way Titanium Backup can return all your apps to the exact way they were before the flash.

HTC gallery quality problem after GB update

HTC always has to screw up something, the image bilinear filering is now disabled when viewing images fitted to screen, equally the filtering quality is reduced when zooming in, im sure they did it to increase speed
but really it makes browsing/viewing photos and pictures horrible, the gallery was one of the best things in my DHD
is there anyway to restore the foyo htc gallery? titanium isnt allowing it
[edit] more info and pics in the third post
It would allow it when u root your phone (what you haven't done... thats how it seems).
When u want to root your phone u can install Visionary from the market and root your phone for a short moment.
Then u will need a backup of your 2.2 galery or a froyo rom that included sense.
When u have the rom (.zip) the HTCAlbum.apk will be located in \system\app of the zip file.
After extracting the apk u need an explorer that will ask for root previliges (i use rootexplorer but thats a pay app) and u have to copy the .apk to \system\app after u mounted read and write acces.
After that reboot unroot and u should have a the 2.2 galery on your phone.
Hope I could help
EDIT: i should read everything and do not write when i'm drunk....
but except from the first part with rooting it is possible that may way is still working
i was unable to replace the gallery app. even through recovery it disappears
the problem is there, yesterday i made sure of it by comparing it with a froyo running DHD, the froyo gallery did not have this problem
when you have a photo or an image, that is landscape oriented and you view it in portrait, the image rendering looks all messed up, jagged edges all around even if you zoom it, very apparent if you take a picture of a text and view it against its original orientation, if you view it in landscape its good quality
likewise, if you take a portait and view it in landscape it looks bad too
it ruins the whole gallery photo browsing experience, which was the best on the DHD, HTC will always do this, break something when they are supposed to be fixing....
i've attached photos of the issue i hope it shows
its been working perfectly for me....

Few n00b question/darky 10/visuals and more

Hi,
i have some questions about modding darkys 10.1 extreme edition rom
i really like this rom its fast as hell and it didnt drain battery but i want to change few tings what bugg me a lot
1. i want to change green icons in status bar(wifi, batt, signal) to grey/white
2. i want change all icons from gingerbread to old froyo style, new icons confuse me i get used to the old ones and now i have to search all sys apps for long time till i find what i want.... and i also want to change system colors to froyo, i didnt know why but colors from ginger looks faded, for example in sms in froyo there were a juice color but in ginger they are faded/pantone
3. and last but not least how i delete old backups from cwm, they didnt even work enymore so i want to getrid of them.
when i will be able to do that three points i will be most satisfied darky/sgs user on the world, so plz xda help me.
regards
Aluz
You should be able to use the Darky configurator to reflash to the grey icon look.
I don't think you can change the icons back to Froyo. If you could I don't think it would be easy but always amazed at what can be done.
I would check ROM Manager in the backups section to delete old backups. I have deleted old backups from here.
Ok, thanks a lot mate!
