Over in the Captivate forum there is a sticky thread ([REF] The modem thread) and I think something of the sort may be useful to us here in the Tab forum.
So, down to business, what modems are you guys using (and if applicable, why)?
Other than the stock AT&T one, I've used:
I9000UGJK3 (Bell Vibrant GT-I9000 - Because it was identified as having HSUPA on 850MHz)
T959TLJL3 (Telus GT-I9000 - Because it has HSUPA on 850MHz and seems to be working well on my my Galaxy S, no GPS problems so far)
Stock modem used, aka P1000XXJK5
Sent from my GT-P1000 using XDA App
I am using the Bell JK3 modem, I tried the Telus modem as I am using a Telus sim card for data and phone but it was slow and laggy!

We May have a problem here , You bought the telstra next G phone and it wont be fully functional (from my understanding) unless its on the next g network
radio will work , not sure if your sim is fully compatible with the phone
Does anyone know if there any new firmware from Samsung Australia?

Depends on your carrier. latest optus on is xwkk2. Look in Intratechs carrier topic.

Optus and Virgin: XWKK2 (2.3.6)
Vodafone/3: DUKJ1 (2.3.5)
Telstra is still on 2.3.3.
Hi Guys,
Here you can find rooted stock kernels (without any modifications, only "insecure" root added) for CANADIAN versions of Galaxy S III (SGH-I747M).
This WILL rise your custom binary counter.
Insecure Means that adb daemon on phone is working as root. If you need more answers on what is insecure kernel, search over xda forums, the answer is there.
To flash, use latest ODIN (3.07) : Download Here!
*LATEST ROGERS* - I747MVLALE8
*LATEST BELL* - I747MVLALE8
*LATEST TELUS* - I747MVLALE8
Enjoy!
Code:
Instructions:
- Run odin
- unpack zip (you should see .tar file inside)
- point to this TAR file in odin as PDA
- click flash
- done

There is no separate threads for Canadian devices, so this is the good thread. If mod will decide otherway then he will move it.
Adam
Technically there is a separate thread. It's the AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 development because their both the same model I747

He was talking about i9300. This section is meant for i9300 and not i747 or its variants. Read this sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1757755

Except they are not ROM compatible, just like tons of phones with similar variations out there regardless how closely resemble they are in terms of hardware.

Can anyone who has used the root for Bell advise if they still have LTE?
rooting does not affect LTE or any other GSM connectivity.
Do you know if any of these would work on a Sasktel SGS3? The Sasktel CSC is BWA (also I747MVLALE8)... I want to root but I haven't seen any stock rooted images specifically for Sasktel yet.
Can you flash these via recovery?

Does it need to be rooted before this or does this root it?
Telus s3
This thread is for Canadian carriers.
Could you please explain further as I have flashed insecure Telus but do not have root.
Odin reported green ok after flashing Samsung-Updates.com-SGH-I747M-TLS-I747MVLALE8_Kernel_INSECURE.zip
Busybox will not install.
I think I may have missed something.
Any help would be appreciated.

I and many others here have flashed eeveral at&t sgh-i747 toms ketnels, etc and as long as u check logs first they work! No issues or bricks or any worrisome probs at all but there are a couple of roms that may cause issues if they cone prepacked with at&t modem or sny diff broadband file...then IMEI could get pooched

My phone was originally a Bell Vibrant (i9000m Canadian) which I flashed to CM9. The signal drop has been significant though (and I see other i9000 users using the UGJK3 modem. When I flash it using Odin, my phone won't connect (never gets signal).
So, how do I flash a modem correctly? Should I be wiping/factory reset? What's the process?
Search for siky's thread. And flash trough cwm.

Why would you flash jvt when you already have jvt...

I flashed an international firmware on a Sprint S4, not knowing that it breaks root and custom recovery. I also lost my 4G. I can fix everything except the 4G. No idea how to begin, any idea?

Well you can begin by going to Sammobile and download the carrier's stock firmware. Flash it via odin. Stay on stock until you figure out how to fix 4G on custom roms.
Good luck, Im sure you'd be able fix it by flashing stock rom
Have you tried fishing the Sprint modem?

Sprint Modem? Can you go a bit more in detail please?
Indie offers an "EnableLTE.zip in the i9505 Omega Thread
This maybe fix the problem, OR AT WORST BRICK YOUR DEVICE
Honestly i have no idea if this works, so be careful.
Indie or another skilled person should know of this fix the LTE bug on your Sprint S4.

The modem is part of any full firmware and is usually different for each provider, region etc.
I believe the US lte frequencies are different to most of the other countries so if you don't have the correct modem your phone may be looking for the wrong frequency.
Try this link: http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.php?dir=Files/Devices/Samsung Galaxy S4 (SPH-L720)/Modems
Flash the .tar file in odin in the phone section.
Edit: just remembered when the first ipad to have lte was released in Australia, Apple and resellers got into big trouble for marketing it as lte/4g. This was because although it was lte it didn't actually work with Australian lte frequencies. So as I mentioned above you will need a US modem. That's my best bet to get it going again.
