[Q] HTC Aria software version? - HTC Aria General

I currently have an HTC aria, software version 1.25.502.2. Is this the latest version of software that allows OTA updates? Or is there a newer version? Thanks in advance.

No, the version that allows OTA updates is 1.25.502.12 available here:
http://www.htc.com/us/support/aria-att/downloads/
Warning installing this will wipe your phone and require you to reinstall all of your apps and settings.

How can I backup my data then?

Just download MyBackup or Titanium and backup your stuff...if it's contacts back them up to your google account...if it's pictures and whatever else that mybackup or titanium won't back up, back them up to your computer.

Thanks, I just got this great app called android manager wifi agent, so I think I'll backup on that, update, and then restore.

[Q] Unrooting and the OTA 2.2 update (when released)

I just rooted my phone, I first thought this would be really useful but it isn't really for me. Am I right in saying that the only way to revert back to my original ROM(?) will be to flash my phone effectively loosing all the data on it? Or can I keep all my data, my text messages phone history etc?
I haven't installed any custom ROMs, just rooted using unrevoked 3. Will my OTA updates be blocked? Can I update to 2.2 (official) when it's released? Will this unroot my phone?
Thanks, I'm new to all this stuff.
u dont need to unroot, just install ota and phone will be unrooted

So the OTA updates aren't blocked because I'm not using a custom ROM?
Im not sure but i think if the phone is rooted you have to install the update manualy from recovery if the ota is here
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
So I will loose no data off my phone by doing the OTA update when it is released? And my phone will become unrooted too?
data will be lost, but if you did nandroid backup you can restore later data
dl titanium backup from market first, backup all your apps, and then you'll be fine.
Hy, i have the same questions myself, glad to know more about it using your topick here. But i have a little question: if your phone was originaly in an different language (Dutch in my case), will this OTA update reset the phone again in that original language?
Thanks in advance,
Erwin

It should do, as long as your phone is still network locked?
Anyway can't you change your Phone's language from the settings menu? Settings>Language & Keyboard>Select locale
Oh and thanks for all the replies guys, I may actually keep my phone rooted, I will probably flash Wildpuzzle when it supports the European features such as friend stream which seem to be blocked on the China ROM.

howto update to Nov update if I don't have all bloatware

hi all
I had uninstalled bloatware like CityID, Weather, (don't remember what else) using Titanium Backup, after rooting, s-offing and flashing froyo stock 2.2 manually. Now to apply Nov update I would need all those bloatware back, don't even remember what all I had removed. Can I just run the 2.2 RUU again , is it safe to run 2.2 RUU again without unrooting, as I'm already on 2.2? are there any 'Radio' issues?
thanks and regards

Yes, you can run the RUU. In fact if you search the forums there's a new RUU that includes the latest OTA
Edit: Here you go.
Is there a tutorial or step by step on how to do a RUU? I haven't done one before.

Download the file, place it on the root of your SD card. It should be named PB31IMG.zip, boot into bootloader (volume down and power) and wait for the to find the file. Then volume up to accept update
Sounds good to me. Thanks!

Is it safe to Update?

Is it safe and good to update htc wildfire from 2.1 to 2.2 (Settings - About - Software Update) if HTC is unlocked and not rooted?
I have heard that flash player (after update) is making some kind of problems is that true and should I Update my htc to 2.2 even it's unlocked to my network.?
I would like to know in short, if I do update will my HTC be locked again? And, can I, after Update "root" it using "unrevoked" ?
p.s. I don't have any backups made and don't know how to make them.
Thank you very much!

The wildfire doesn't support flash, simple.
No you won't be able to root after you install the official ota froyo, because htc updated the hboot, and unrevoked hasn't been updated yet.
No flash? How i watch youtube and etc?? What now to root or update? After update is my phone still unlocked???

I don't understand you. I have mentioned Youtube only because of flash support. I can watch & use flash with my Wildfire.
All I need to know is:
1.Can I update my Wildfire if it's unlocked (will it lock again) after update to 2.2 Android?
2.Can I root my Wildfire after update to 2.2?
Thank you
1: It should'nt. But, really, I have no idea here. AFAIK, You will not be able to update OTA if you are rooted and unlocked.
2: No. There's no way to currently root OTA 2.2 from HTC.

Ok. And 3rd question would be: Do I really need to update or should I stay with Android 2.1.?
If yes (need to update) can I and how backup my current system - if something like that is even possible - and restore again if needed?

Be careful if you are rooted...
Since this RUU is a full update, it will wipe your phone and you will lose root. It will also flash a new HBOOT loader which will probably not allow you to regain root.

CORRECT! I know I've said this before but it would awesome if someone could remove all the bloatware. This way we would have Liberated FR008 but without the bug in the weather widget (regardless to what some user may say, it is annoying). In other words: We'd have Perfection
the HTC sever is slow, Im on a 20meg connection getting 16kb do you think that the update will really unroot the device?

YES! So if you want to keep your phone rooted do not install this. Just wait untill someone can extract the rom and make it flashable though Clockwork Recovery. Knowing the developers on this site is not going to take longer than a week.
No Apps2sd? No live wallpapers? pls reply.
Might just stay with the rooted rom

so um any idea when we can root our aria's again if you're a st00pid teenager like me and flashed the RUU?

You are now in the same boat as the Asian Arias and European Gratias. There has been no exploit found on the current HBOOT loader for those that have taken the Froyo 2.2 update, so a permanent rooting solution is not possible. You might be able to get temp root using ZRoot.
So... there's hard evidence that this contains the same HBOOT? Or are we just assuming that it contains the same?
I'm not downlplaying what has been said over this update, and I was definitely not planning to update (since I'm running CM7 anyway), was just being curious.
I updated my Aria today and I have two questions
1) Froyo was supposed open up the LED API's right that way it would allow us to change the color through third party apps, how come I still can't do that even after I disable the notifications is settings like the app instructs me to?
2) The Facebook app for android is supposed to have push notifications for android 2.2 and above devices, how come I'm still not receiving these notifications?

In examining the ROM.zip file in the RUU, the HBOOT loader is now version 1.02. The original Aria HBOOT loader is 0.57. I just found an old post that stated the Gratia had HBOOT 1.01 and I believe that the Asian Arias that have taken the Froyo 2.2 OTA were updated to HBOOT 1.0x. So that my evidence and conclusion.

OK, I came across this thread post by attn1 on the Asian Aria upgrade thread. On it he thought that it might be possible to run the original Aria RUU with a gold card to restore back to an older version and possible restore your root.

Speaking as a newbie to all this the rough instructions are in the following thread; http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=770091.
With the exception of you must disable fastboot before powering the phone down or take the battery out before starting the phone up again at step 2.
It doesn't work on my phone mind. It gives an invalid operation error and just reboots.
