I recently ditched the Archos 70 for this Samsung galaxy tab, and I have to say, that this tablet is way much better in terms of hardware and how the software functions.
Now here are two thinks I want to do:
1. Be able to activate the phone functionality, which I think is disable by t-mobile [usa]
2. Be able to install a very good custom ROM
I came across this guide on how to get the phone working, but I haven't tried it since I am not sure if it will work, or if I need to install a custom ROM first.
http://allinfohere.co.cc/2010/11/t-mobile’s-galaxy-tab-takes-on-a-life-of-its-own-can-now-make-and-receive-phone-calls/
I have only had this tab for a few days, and the only thing I have done is root the device via z4root.
It is also a pre-paid unit, but I haven't activated it yet. I am hoping to just use my SIM from my phone to test it out once I can apply the hack to it.
Thanks for the help.
cheers
ps.

Seriously, not one reply. A little help here please.
I just want to remove the stock t-mobile ROM, with maybe a EU ROM, where I can unlock the phone function and be able to get more performance.
anyone?

Have you tried searching? You've asked for nothing that hasn't already been discussed ad-nauseam I'm afraid!
FWIW though, I believe you can't simultaneously get voice and 3G on the Tab with TMobile US.

Hey Dave,
I have looked at the many different post at the development section, but I can't seem to find a sort of beginning point. I go through the different firmwares, but still can't find one that I can install on my tab that would allow me full access to the tab. Not sure if I should apply JM6 or JMA, etc.
Everything is all over the place and there isn't a "newbie-startup" section.
Hopefully with time it will all get organize. Thanks for your reply. Cheers!

That's because there isn't one at present.
Want 3G? The only radio that supports it is the original TMoUS one, and that one doesn't work with voice.
Want voice? You can flash a Euro radio, but then you'll only get Edge for data.
If you're in the US, and want a Tab that can work on 3G and make phone calls, you need to get the AT&T model on AT&T.
Regards,
Dave
Start here if you have not seen this yet. It is a very good guide by Clubtech. Worked for me on my once Bell now Telus Canadian GT

I am not concern about getting 3G, EDGE is fine for me, since I wouldn't be using the service that much.
Can you recommend a Euro firmware that would turn on the radio?
My tab is on t-mobile, so when I need to, I can just pop-in the SIM from my phone.
Check this thread out.

Dave

if someone could give a bit of help with this that would be incredible. I haven't been able to get it to work either.
thank you
if you plan on switching roms, the newer ones usually have the function built in to configure them according to what carrier you are on. I found that either Kumar's or NRG's roms work pretty well as I'm currently using Kumar's Lite WWE rom

Copy the cab file to your phone and then use file explorer to go to it and double click on it and run. I will agree with the post above, 99% of custom roms come with a connection setup that lets you choose ATT and it downloads the settings for you. Plus helps out the OS lol
I got the file installed but still no luck, any other ideas??
Media Net
I have installed the media net but it still doesn't work.
I did the same thing and the people at at&t told me that it want allow you to have data connetion through them. They were wrong. Call 1-866-449-8358, they will hook you up with the settings. You want have to download anything. Once you have a data connection it will show that you are connected to edge. But, it is 3g.
I got this figured out. go to settings/Wireless Control/Data Connection/Advance(tab on the bottom)/Selectnetworks/ and then change the both drop down bars to Media Net.
Don't forget to turn the Data Connection "on" in the wireless controls.
It worked just fine on my HD2
I used the cab file on the first page, installed and restarted. Mobile internet works fine, but I still can't receive MMS. The pics are the right size so I am lost as to where to go next. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanx.

How can you be sure that HD2 will run on ATT 3g? alot of people are saying it probably won't have 3g, but you get an EDGE network... i really need to know this because i might switch to att from tmobile.
I am in between iPhone's (3GS-iPhone 4), but I have an HTC HD2 T-Mobile USA version as a secondary phone. I returned my 3GS (which I just recently upgraded to after losing my 3G iPhone) so I could be eligible for the upgrade price on the iPhone 4 and I only have the HD2 right now (love the phone by the way). Anyway....
Quick question: I tried applying MEdia Net/MMS Settings both manually and with the cab file, but I cannot seem to get data working on my HD2. My AT&T account is not on Media Net it is on the iPhone data plan, so could that be the reason why I cannot get data to work on my HD2?
I tried figuring out the problem on my own but I'm obviously not getting it done...thx for the help.
p.s. The HD2 is running on stock software. I have not applied any roms or hacks to it.

Funny, I'm in the same situation! I sold my iPhone yesterday in prep for the iPhone 4 and got the HTC HD2 from T-Mobile to use for a couple of weeks (also got it unlocked by them the next day!).
After installing the .cab file, reboot your phone then go and change your data settings in the HD2. I'm on the iPhone data plan with AT&T as well and everything thing seems to be working fine.

The T-Mobile HD2 will not work on AT&T's 3G bands, period...only edge. You'll have to get the Australian (Telstra) model to be able to use AT&T 3G.
Choosing baseband
Interesting because in Phone Settings there is the option of choosing your baseband between AT&T's or T-Mobile's or to put it on Auto. I just chose Auto to be safe as I'm using an AT&T sim.
On hold with HTC Support so I'll shortly know definitely.

Hello all Vibrant Devs.,
This post is for any Devs. that would be interested in working on the T-Mobile Galaxy Tab. Currently there is a bounty for anyone that is willing to take on this task. All details are on the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=951930
Many of us T-Mobile Tab owners know that there are a lot of talented Devs. here that have worked many wonders with the Vibrant, we are hoping that some of those same Devs. can help us out.
If interested (T-Mobile Tab owners, me being one, hope someone is) please direct all your questions and requests to that thread.
Many thanks on behalf of all T-Mobile Tab owners.
***NOTE to the MODS: Please do not remove this thread from here. This is a desperate plead for help from our fellow XDA community Devs. If this could be made into a sticky it would be greatly appreciated.
You should say what you ask of them as well. Let them know that we need a Vibrant modem that will allows us to connect to the 3G and voice.
thank you for making this post.
Our Goal:
We Galaxy Tab owners are looking for a modified modem.bin file that allows simultaneous 3G & voice calling. As of now, we have the stock modem.bin file that ONLY allows using 3G; the calling feature has been disabled. We also have plenty of modem.bin files from European ROMs which will allow edge & voice calling but no 3G. Apparently the euro file doesnt support the 1700 Mhz frequency that tmobile uses; it does however, support 2100 Mhz. We tried every trick in the book. We tried messing with the settings and manually forcing it to detect the 1700mhz frequency with no luck. We have tried many vibrant modem files with no success. There is no solution except to possibly reverse engineer the two modems to make it work. This is why we are searching for a dev/engineer to do this for us. Please help us. The bounty will grow.

I had flashed the Vibrant KB1 modem. I confirmed that voice did work. So I thought I would try out the *#2243# to see which radios are active, and I saw that 1700 was not even active. I activated it and it showed that it was getting a signal. I even went into mobile network settings and it was showing a T-Mobile. However, this is where the problems began, it would not connect and give the error "Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network". So if we can find what is blocking it from connecting then we have 3G and Voice using a Vibrant modem.bin.

I'm pretty sure you would need to change the files in your efs dir to clone a Vibrant's information.
Files you would need are the nv_data.bin, nv_data.bin.md5, and I think 1 other one, I'll have to get it when I get home.
What this will do is clone the IMIE, product code, serial number, as well as the Unlock Codes. With this, also flash a Vibrant Modem, KB1 for example. You may need to swap out the ril's in /system/bin as well as /system/lib
If you try this, I will not be responsible for any bricks.

That means I would have to clone my Vibrant.
I'm sure I can take my files, and hex them to create a fake IMIE for you guys though.
the problem with that is everyone would have the same fake IMEI number correct? i dont think that would be a good idea since everyone who wants this is on the tmobile network. when we corrupted our IMEI (by deleting the contents of the EFS folder) everyone got a different corrupt/changed IMEI number and that is how we got edge to work and bypassed the tmobile redirect issue we were having. so what your saying is that just using the vibrant modem isnt enough. the IMEI number needs to be that of a vibrants as well? but if we do get a vibrant IMEI number, would this show up in tmobiles system and they would reintroduce the block? the problem in my particular case is i have the $10 unlimited phone web (grandfathered in) and that doesnt work on all phones, only the nexus and the behold. thats why i was getting the redirect. so if i put a vibrant IMEI then i might get blocked. but then again, if u provide us with a fake IMEI whats the difference between what your providing and what we did ourselves? hope im making sense.

... How on earth do you manage to put it in the wrong one? Mine only has two and I'll be darned if the SIM would fit in the other. Of course, this is t-mobiles, but I think all SIMs are about the same size, no?
Anywho, I saw your post and the one in the related post on the Tab forums and have a roommate with a Vibrant. I'm willing to test your theory and I'm sure he's willing to copy over his EFS folder for me. I'll hunt down the modem and give it a shot when I get home from work.
What your saying is
1) Copy efs folder from his vibrant (will I run into any issues [assume for me] with the network having two of the same device on it?)
2) flash a vibrant modem
3) poof, 3g's and phone.
Obviously this is just your theory, and until someone tests it we can't know, but do I understand that correctly?

Here is a HSPA+ modem It's not a flashable zip.

I had to switch from TMobile to At&t for work reasons. I got the Samsung Focus on At&t and I love it, but I flashed Android on my HD2 hoping that I would have the best of both worlds: a WP7 and an Android phone equivalent to the Inspire 4G.
The good news is that when I put my At&t SIM Card on my HD2, it registers and says At&t, and the data works fine (EDGE, but nothing is perfect, i knew that 3G was not going to work because of the different frequencies At&t and TMobile use), the bad news is that I'm not able to make or receive calls or texts.
Anyone has any idea how to make the HD2 with Android work on At&T?
Please ignore the part of my sig where it says that i'm running windows mobile, although i'm willing to flash it if that is the solution, but i want to play with Android for a while.
Any help will be appreciated!
Cheers!
You will have to unlock the phone. Call T_Mobile and they can generate a unlock code for you.
My phone is unlocked... any other ideas?
Did you go to Settings/Mobile Networks/Network Operators/Search Networks and choose AT&T as your carrier? In the same menu, you can Select Automatically so that you don't have to manually choose which carrier is available in your area.
AT&T is the only carrier that shows up whether i select it manually or automatically.

That's strange. Seeing your moniker and knowing you were on T-Mobile, it should also show up. Since your phone is unlocked like mine, I used to be on AT&T and would see both carriers when I did a search of the airwaves. Did you check your APN settings so that they are set up for AT&T?

Hey
I bought a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 (t235y) from frys in the states to use with the t-mobile Smart Choice data plan, which includes roaming in Mexico and Canada
I am able to use the tablet flawlessly in the States, but when I cross over to Canada, at first the tablet would not register with any carrier, and after talking on the phone with Tech Support they were able to get it to register but I am not getting any data. I have tried changing apns, turning roaming off and on, hard resetting and everything.
I read somewhere that tmobile tracks the TAC code to identify that it is a tablet to allow it to access data (weird since it works in the States).
I want to try to put the original firmware of the T235 on the T235y - maybe to see if that would make it work.
My question is if I flash it with the t235 firmware, would it work or brick the unit?
Thanks

see my post here. besides flashing the t-mobile ummm rom I guess over it, you won't be able to update. I've tried samsung and t-mobile and the only thing that will work besides that is to borrow a sim from a friend and use that... https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/best-buy-screw-t3594359/page2

Try to get at least an inactivated Verizon sim card from any Verizon store or you can also try a normal working Verizon sim. I had AT&T Galaxy S5 and it needed the carrier's sim card to even check for update. I took the sim, put it in, checked for update and was able to install it.
Fix to your issue
Hey guys so I do also share the same situation, I have a Verizon s8+ yet I have T-Mobile One as my coverage
Because it's not authenticated as a Verizon provided account it simply won't update
Now.. the solution to updating isn't directly on your device.
It's within the Samsung Smart switch App for either Mac or windows, you can run an update through there with little to no problems at all and finally keep your device up to date without having to return it for an unlocked one.
Just a brief note regarding the smart switch App, keep in mind that sometimes the update will freeze at a certain percentage on the computer so just be sure to close the app out only if your Samsung device hasn't received the green upload screen yet.
Hopefully this helps out alot of you guys ?
Best regards

see my post here. besides flashing the t-mobile ummm rom I guess over it, you won't be able to update. I've tried samsung and t-mobile and the only thing that will work besides that is to borrow a sim from a friend and use that... https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/help/best-buy-screw-t3594359/page2

I'd like to flash mine to t mobile, I'm begging you to help me with this!!!

I've seen a bunch of info on the forums on how to flash the T-Mo ROM on an s8 - as well as flashing the Samsung Unlocked ROM on the s8 but frankly, almost all the threads are from back at the phone launch - and it is unclear to me which roms & programs to search for.
In a similar vein - I'm a noob to the whole process using oden - which I think is what i would need to use. I have experience from years ago running cyanogen mods on a nook tablet and messing with windows phones - but nothing recent and things have changed a lot.
I've read conflicting reports throughout the forums on doing this...
I'm running a VZW Branded (but it's now "unlocked")
Model: s8 SM-G-950U
Build #: NRD90M.G950USQS2BQL1
Baseband #: G950USQS2BQL1
What I'm looking for (really the right word is "NEED"):
Access to lower 700 A block (full band 12 use)
Ability to get OTA Updates
Mobile Hotspot Functionality
WiFi Calling
VoLTE
Bixby
If I could have these all running the Samsung Unlocked ROM - then that would be preferred...
If not - I would want to flash the T-Mobile ROM.
I need to know ASAP as I only have 14days from today (2/14/18) to figure this out or go back to VZW
Many thanks!
