who has ditched their phone and uses the tab as phone? I am thinking about it but the size is an issue.
lol sorry but i think ur gonna get flamed for this post, most people on this forum have already made the switch lol.. and yes i use it as my primary phone since my android hd2 sucks, so now i use it as a AP for my tab just need to always wear pants with large enough back pockets haha
oh man. i opened a can of worms
Yea, i mainly use cargo pants but on occasion, I need to where jeans or slacks I guess I will need to get use to it.
Ditched my nexus for it. I bought a jacket and had to sew a pocket in it just for the tab. Yea....i love this thing enough to do that lol.

Galaxy Tab + bluetooth headset works fine as a phone, and is my primary phone now. I'm also wondering whether a LiveView might enhance this experience (ability to see who's calling without pulling out the Tab).
It fits both in my winter jacket inne pocket and in the side pockets of my pants, so it's no more of a hassle to bring along than a normal phone.
I have been using my S7 as a phone. It fits like a glove since it isn't too wide. For me the Tab is slightly wider so it isn't a comfortable to use as a phone.

I'll ditch my N1 soon, just planning to buy sony liveview, once i have it, then i'll ditch my N1 and use tab as my primary phone

I've got my Galaxy Tab a week ago, and I have been using it as a phone since then with a bluetooth headset.
Being a woman has its advantages, I take the Galaxy Tab comfortably inside the bag and bluetooth headset attached to my clothing or bag strap. My husband adapted a car sunglasses clip to carry the headset in it.
What is not well solved yet is how to make calls from the headset without having to take the tablet off the bag when I'm on the street. I live in a city with high rates of violence and assaults and would not be a good idea to pull the tablet to call someone.
I'm using the headset that came with the Galaxy Tab kit here in Brazil. It pairs without problems and he has the ability to dial the last number called. The problem is when I want call a number other than the last. Perhaps there is some bluetooth headset that can store contact list on it ...
Other than that I'm very happy using my tablet as a phone and don't think looking back to my hd2 "desire" !

For what I understand from Sony Liveview, I can't start a call from it, can I? I'm just able to see who is calling, but I don't realy care about it. What I need is some kind of contacts agenda to choose someone to call without taking the Galaxy Tab out of my purse.
Did I miss something about Sony Liveview? It would be wonderful if it solves my problem...

I'm not sure, but i think it lets you see the contacts so it should even allow you to call, just check their docs on their site
If it doesn't have a pocket that fits the TAB I don't buy it or wear it anymore. Gave me an excuse to change up my wardrobe a bit.
Ha ha ha how was that saying about Mahoma and a mountain?
I wasnt using it as my phone as i had my hated galaxy s, but since it fell to the floor the other day i decided to give the tab a try as my main phone. As
Absolutely fantastic.
i just cant understand how anyone who needs a bigger screen doesnt jump to it right away.

As some of you already have the Athena, can you please comment on the size of it? A huge decision whether or not I buy this incredible device is whether or not I can fit this in my pocket.
I am not asking whether or not it is comfortable to wear in side jeans/pants pocket or if it looks dorky, but rather want to know whether it does or not. If someone could take pics of it in pocket, that would be really cool.
I am sure others have the same question.
Thanks.

personally, i think if you mind the size, then don't get it, it is a fact that this device is the biggest PDA or Phone ever, so if you mind the size, think very hard for it.
In the other hand, if you just want lots of function and good spec for this device (like me), then this device is for you.
I personally only want it for technical and professional uses only. My BT headset is the way to go ^^... If you are looking only for a phone/incoming/outgoing calling purpose then this is not it. This is a Pocket PC with built in quad band and GSM SIM whatever you know. So if you are lookin for some bling bling nice lookin phone go for motorrola or nokia or maybe even lg prada or smaller. You are in the wrong place if you lookin for flip phones and other stuff. Well personally i think the smallest phone is my BT headset. All i do is keep the athena in the pocket or in my briefcase and it is powered by a huge battery and doesnt heat up since backlight is off. So i just recieve and make calls using the BT Headset... its truly the bling bling. Plus i dont carry my laptop because i have my Athena (smallest laptop). So there we go Athena + headset is truly a bling bling ^^ where style matters.
I am a techie and like all the functions it has. I do not care so much for smallness, I currently have a TYTN and think its not big at all.
HTC's website says its truly pocketable, but many people say the opposite.
Just trying to understand the size in context to a pocket.
FYI - I would use a BT headset.
Thanks

If you dont want the screen to break dont put it in your pocket. Simple. You are kinda bending the device by putting it into your pocket. Since most of use wear Jeans or Khakis/Pants... it is really not comfortable in the pocket. Imagine some 6 inch book in your pocket. exactly it feels weird! also you are bending the device in your pocket atleast in the jeans unless you decide to put it in the shirt pocket... gawd too many pockets. anyways there is a 60% chance that the screen will break in your pocket. Just a warning.
I found this on the internet, while obsessively searching google for Athena/U1000/Advantage/Ameo Pictures.

You would not want it to vibrate so close to the Micro Drive anyway..not a good idea over time.
BTW, unless you wear skin tight Jeans, it will fit into the front pocket of that too. I do it, and even drive with it in my pocket...not uncomfortable at all.
Don't use supplied case with it though, as the extra thickness will change things.

I'm also still considering if I could live the size of the device before buying it.
I would also like to put it in my pocket, because I do not carry along a briefcase. Given the bulk of the keyboard and leather case, I would like to leave them at home, and rely on the protection skin mentioned by one of you guys. I don't mind looking foolish when answering the phone call with a brick like device, so I will not use a BT headset, as that means extra thing to carry.
The only questions that still bother me is whether or not I could easily lower the volume when answering call, and whether or not I can without the keyboard answer, make, reject, redial, and terminate call.
Could anyone enlighten me on this?
The actual picture to compare
This is the picture where U can compare it to the Universal (mine )
Picture taken at CeBIT show this year....
I've still got my Exec and I do miss the more responsive keyboard and numeric row, but I am getting used to the layout of the Ameo's keyboard and its shortcomings. It's a little annoying that it doesn't follow most of the rules of normal keyboards like the Exec does, but I've also found when I have the phone in tablet mode (without the kb) the larger-buttoned version of the on-screen keyboard does the job quite well and I can even compose texts or emails in almost the same time as on the Exec.
These kind of phones are never primarily about convenience and it's a price you have to pay for the many advantages and extra things they can do.

Initial impression is the case is nice and as described. The materials and craftsmanship are above board. Coming from the HTC case that cam with my wizard I was due an upgrade and I instantly feel that I have moved several notches above that case. Magnets seem to be just strong enough. If they were stronger they would probably be overkill but I think overkill with a 500 dollar device is confidence inspiring. The hole on the bottom used to aid in retreiving the phone is a bit small for my mammoth hands. I am going to voice these concerns to the vendor to see what if anything can be done to appease me. I will keep you guys posted on the case as well as the customer service. To this point, I am very pleased with the service. The case was assembled and arrived here from Hong Kong inside two weeks during holiday season. The vendor was prompt with updates about assembly status and the date and time of shipment. I will post more as it develops.
Nice case. Too expesive for me. That costs more than my phone! (I got mine for $34). My case was $8 on ebay. Shipped. In the long run, I don't care that I got a cheap case, I could buy 5 and they'd equal the same amount of yours. But I won't need 5. So I'll save my money and buy something else
I always baby my toys and I can tell you that I looked for a cheap alternative and I could find none that actually "fit" the Fuze. Several Wizard/Hermes/Kaiser cases were being pushed at Raphael owners but the cases are simply too big in my opinion. I like form fitting version here. My tastes are modest, but these guys can do many texture and color combinations that are more austentatious than I could stomach. One can even select the thread color. Internally, the case can be designed with microfiber suede or suede in many colors as well. You select the clasp type and belt clip type as well. The case is shipped for free via airmail so 39.99 is the final price. I think it was money well spent, so far at least. I will let you know if my opinion changes in time.
I checked it out. Turns out, this is not the only type of case they offer! They have vertical, pouches, different types of horizontal lol. I like the form fitting, but if you search on eBay for "touch pro case" a lot of them come up and most of them fit the fuze.
I am still elated with this case. And, the fit and finish are still quite impressive. I contacted thet vendor and the guys have agreed to give me a new case with a larger hole. They didn't even request the other case as a return. This company is top notch and if you need the perfect case for your HTC Fuze then this is the way to go.

Sounds top notch. I'll buy one as a present for someone then and we'll see how it goes!
I have my username embossed in the front panel of the case. My wife has already commandered the case. For a while there I thought I was going to have one hell of a back up case... On the bright side I don't have to buy my wife one for her Fuze...
nice looking case, but you have to take the phone out of it to use the phone. to many steps for someone who is always using the phone in my opinion. there are many REALLY nice leather cases, but it just takes to much time to keep pulling it out each time there is a call or email for a power user in my opinion.
Thanks for posting the pictures. It really helps learning about the different options that are available.
I have never been one to keep the phone in my pocket, but even when I did, it was always more trouble to try retreive it from my pocket to field a call relative to a horizontal waist mounted case. Besides when I am busy with many calls I usually have my trusty Motorola H700 attached to my ear and as a result I don't even have to retreive the phone. If you don't mind my asking what is your favorite type of case, if you use one?

I also use my wireless headset, but still like to look at who is calling, lol. Or with emails have to look on it. with my blackberry phones in the past and now the fuze I have always been more of a skin person, then a carrying case person. My current case is this one - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=459761 and I am looking at the Seido one also.
Do you use MSVC? I have it set to announce all emails and incoming callers. This reduces the amount that I have to take the phone out.

You could always get a bluetooth watch That'd show you who's calling. Or get a headset with a display.
What seller did you buy from? I can't seem to find a case for the Touch Pro (Fuze) on eBay? This case is exactly what I'm looking for.
The seller is WiWayCN, and I should have given a link to the auction I purchased from: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=390007490992.
Wonderful! Thanks so much!
Did you order the suede lining, or the microfiber? Belt Clip B?
As the title says, where do you put ur old phones? GF, sell, throw away, donate it?
I'm pretty happy that I managed to sell my HTC Tattoo, but maybe there are phone models which can't be sold anymore because they are not valuable anymore...
i have plenty of friends with less money then i
Selling my Htc magic hehe to a guy that was honest with me that he wants to buy them to fix and re-sell them (doesn't care about condition), and a good price too of 235$ canadian.
unless I can find higher i'll sell to him.
can't wait for sammy phone
The store I ordered it buys the old phones
As I do with all my old phones, give it one of the nursing staff who need it better than I.
EDITED:
Forgot to say, it's an HD2
The phone i'm currently using is having its last breath and i don't know how it's working right now :\
Plus its company had a bankrupcy so even if i tried to donate it ,it'll be thrown back at my face ... guss what is it ?!
Its name is O2 Atom Life , i had Sony Ericsson Xperia X1 before but it died in front of my eyes so i went back to the mentioned device >_>
When i buy Galaxy S i want to do something with my O2 that'll makes me feel good and right now the only idea i'm having is throwing it from a high place
Gonna try to sell my bricked G1 on ebay. Hopefully someone would need parts when I do.
Giving mine to the GF, its the HTC Desire, which I still like immensely and want to keep around to play with when it gets Froyo etc
o2 mini
Putting my legendary O2 mini as table clock. Task reminder and daily weather report.

So very, very mad at my G1. A trip to the desert with my 12 gauge will set things right!
Use it as my drunk phone when I'm out and drinking.
Or maybe I just use my even older W850i for that.
X1 wasn't really cheap when it come out and I dont know if I want to lost it when I'm drunk.
It's still awesome phone.
Ill send in my nexus one to google to get it replaced for minor cosmetic damage. Then i'll either sell it, give it to the wife (which is unlikely since she drops and loses all the gadgets i give her) or put it in the draw on top of my Xperia X1i.

Dont even make me bring up umbrellas ... The loss of my umbrellas brings a tear to my eye ... they were not just regular umbrellas they were art.
A week later after she had borrowed my umbrella ... "Hey babe do you know where my umbrella is ..." She replies ... "Oh, yea, I forgot it in the train, im sorry. Can i borrow this other one its pouring outside?"
At that point I just have to give up and give in. It is a helpless cause ... what did i get myself into.
I can't give my old one to the misses, she already wants a Galaxy S too, and being Korean she thinks she's more entitled to the first one!
I'll probably put a stock ROM back on my HD and offer it up on FreeCycle.
I'll keep my touchpro and drop the sim in it when I'm out on the water. That way if my phone goes swimming at least it's not the galaxy.
I'm not thoroughly convinced that I need a keyboard with my device, but if I was going to buy one, it would have to be either very small or very thin. Why tote around a keyboard that's just as large as the tablet?
Any ideas?
Of course, there's always this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/computing/keyboards-mice/8193/
(if it was ever in stock again).
I am currently using the Acer wrapping with an Incase faux-fir slip case, so I'd hope that it would be low-profile enough to fit in there.
I am curious as well. what are the best keyboard/case combis that we can get

Also, a prerelease product info page on an interesting BT fold-up keyboard:
https://jornostore.com/
that jorno is nice but not for that much!!!! you can get a flexi keyboard bluetooth on amazon for around 30
I was considering getting the Motorola atrix keyboard.... i have the atrix so that with bluetooth on the tablet would work fine specially considering the android function buttons..
I have the Moto keyboard (Link) and for the most part it's a very nice unit. The only real issue with it is the massive bump in the back where they put the batteries and whatever else they have packed into it, that and not all the short cut keys work, but I am not sure that is the keyboard.
It's worth the purchase, and is very nice on the plane, but I find myself not carrying it locally just due to size. The Jorno looks like a great compromise for when I am more local but want to slam out a page or two...

Sure, it's not going to be the world's greatest keyboard, but I'm really just looking for decent yet portable. If I really need something more, I've got a Logitech K340 that works great. It's not bluetooth, but Logitech's USB receivers are so small anymore that it really doesn't detract at all.
I just purchased this keyboard

Wow, I forgot about that keyboard. I'm really curious to how it feels and types. Keep us in the loop!!!
I would like to see the review that ITSteve was going to do..
+1 Tor Thema review
Sorry, I have been swamped with work. I can confirm that this keyboard DOES work with the iconia but not with standard BT pairing. I had to use some hci files and script using terminal but it works great. I promise that I will get a review up. I did already make the screenshots with the terminal session, just haven't typed it all up yet

Stand is great, but unfortunately the keyboard doesnt work natively, it uses spp, which you have to purchase a 15 dollar app to use it with the tablet, and the app is a piece of junk, returned the keyboard, now i gotta find a new one

Heres a article from Engadget that shows a new tablet geared Logitech set.

Minus the spaces of course.
Funny thing but I do not see an easy solution.
At the moment I am using my netbook, so essentially when I lie in bed and my netbook is on my belly I got top of the screen tilted towards me in order to see the picture clearly (I got Asus 12001N).
I can not belive any of those tablets has screen good enough to watch a film with a completely opposite screen angle (where bottom is closer to you)...
All accessories I have seen will keep tablet under mentioned angle which is not very useful .
I do not think I will be able to hold it still for 2h... or maybe it is not a problem?
Also.... if 3.5 mm jack is on top of the tablet one needs fairly long lead to put it behind screen.
God... waiting for F1 race restart is boring - at least guys at BBC are fairly funny
Personally I have a TV in my bedroom. But I never watch it. I fall a sleep in the living room watching TV then wake up and go to bed in the bedroom. haha, try that maybe. the solution is get a wall mount for your tablet. they make them and they are cheap.
Can't be any more boring then actually watching F1

Well, race was actually very good - thanks BBC! ;-)
If I put tablet on the wall I dont think I will be able to spot it, not to mention seeing what is on the screen or actually touching it
And I do not have a telly.
Absolutely brilliant race. Shame about Michael, but well done to Button. Hamilton is just a sore loser

Proper off topic but it is truth and nothing but the truth ;-)
The viewing angle should be just fine in that position you're describing... I use my iPad just like that laying on the couch or in bed. No problem

Now, it is an idea but a tough one.
Him or R2D2 - either way someone will get jealous.
Try this:
- Lie on your side
- Put the tablet in front of you on portrait mode (so you still see in landscape, because you lie on your side)
- Put pillow behind the tablet to hold it in that position
There you go
I use that for iPad2 when my daughter wants to watch some clips.

1. Thanks - will try. But I see here a great potential for accessories manufacturers - to give us more convenient covers
2. Not much on Polish telly to watch and not much time so netbook and BBC, ITV, Ch4 + hulu, abc, cbs and netflix are more than enough.
VPN sorted out my life as I felt really lost after I came back from UK 2 PL.
I would buy a TV but it would need have to have an option to set up VPN connection or I would have to find a way to connect it through VPN so it would have UK or USA IP.
Now, my only trouble is - how to pay for HULU Plus.
BTW: If any of you is from USA and has a paypal account I would be very grateful for help (no risk for you I send you cash and you pay on my behalf. If one of you would be a "kind soul" please PM me).
3. When you have a tablet or netbook screen 50-80 cm away from your screen I think it is big enough. My netbook is 12.1" (bigger, true) and I really do not miss big telly.
