What do you guys think? Will a 7' screen be enough? If I got one I would get wifi only so I can tether with my Epic. I wish it was SAMOLED.
Personally, I think a 7' screen is a bit overkill for a mobile device. That's just me though.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

Anyways I think 6 inch and 7.5 inches will be alright to keep it portable
I wasn't aware that a Wifi-only version would exist, either. I wonder how that affect Market status.
its sad i want one but what does it do that my phone cant?
same specs too right?

Yeah, it doesn't seem like the tab has anything on the epic at all other than screen size. It seems like a very introductory product that won't be anywhere near the level of the iPad (as much as I hate to say it). I'm sure if we give it another year there will be one that's better than the iPad.
personally, i am a "pocket guy" when it comes to phones. i dont do clips. the Epic is about as big as I'd get and still be able to pocket the sucker.
i just dont get devices like the Tab or the dell streak or whatever hitting that 5-7 inch mark and still marketing it as mobile as a phone. i feel like they're trying to copy apple and invent a new product, the ipad was a risk but its paying off, i feel like these other companies would do better to directly copy the ipad and make an even larger device like 9-10 inches, a true tablet. i'm not digging the phone/tablet crossovers, to me its too big to be a phone and too small to be a tablet and get FULL web browsing capability.
just my .02
If the wifi-only version price really is $500 that'll torpedo it right there considering the base wifi-only iPad is the same price. I love my Epic, but if I had to choose between those 2 I'd get the iPad. Put the wifi-only version of the Galaxy tab at $350 and then it makes more sense IMO.

But you wouldn't have access to all the paid apps on the android market that you purchased if you chose the ipad.
And the modding possibilities!
The Tab also lasts longer than a epic..battery wise. Its a great home multitasking utility. I would def use it as a ereader/movie player as well as automating some tasks in my home.

Regardless, if that's what you're looking for, the iPad is MUCH better. I'm a huge fan of Android & I dislike Apple but the tab is really the iPad's little brother. It just doesn't compare.

That doesn't make any sense. The Galaxy Tab is nothing like the iPad. If you wanna compare things compare the iPad to every other tablet that came before it. Comparing the Galaxy Tab is like comparing it to the Blackberry Playbook.

actuallu thinking about it it would make one hell of an xbmc remote...
The Galaxy tab costs 600 dollars so no, it will probably fail.
Eh... if I were to get a tablet, it would probably be an iPad. I have android on my phone. I don't need a replicated device on a larger screen. I'd also have more games to play on the iPad which would be fun
Well, now I have two 7" tablets.
I got the 64 GB because I need as much space as possible for hi-def .mkv files.
I will do a comparison of my 7" 3G t-mobile Galaxy Tab with my new Playbook pretty soon.
So far from playing around with it at Best Buy, the white on the Playbook looks brighter and whiter than the SGT, even when the SGT is set at maximum brightness and contrast.
Too bad there is no dedicated Playbook forum here at XDA so I will post my observation in this forum since I also have the SGT.
Did you turn off energy saving mode on your galaxy tab when you did the white comparison?

Actually, I have put away my SGT (with Overcome 1.4.5) and has been playing with the playbook constantly since I got it.
I really like it. I did read the engadget review before I bought it. I am not thinking of returning it.
The 64 GB Playbook is actually the most expensive tablet that I bought....even more expensive than my 3G/4G Xoom (bought it with 25% off coupon).
So now my 2 kids and my wife get to play with the ipad, Xoom, and SGT, while I get to play with Playbook.
You prefer the Playbook over the Xoom? Weird.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
I'm thinking of getting one too, since I own two BlackBerries (though I still love my Tab to death).
I talked to a guy (who's not particularly computer savvy) who picked up a Playbook at Best Buy and played with it in the store. He hated it. He said that unless you have a BB, you can't get your mail, calendar or contacts on it and found it useless in that regard.

I am also a Tab owner that has now purchased a Playbook. I have tried out the Xoom, Ipad2, Playbook all for 2 weeks each and have decided that I like the Playbook best out of all three. It may not have lots of apps but the browser hands down beats the socks off of any other. I realized after a while I didn't even use any apps, only the browser for all my email, messaging and all my other needs. The hardware is amazing, portable and the screen is better than the Tab along with the battery life. I am still keeping my Tab for the odd game for my kids but as a business user, the Playbook is solid. I also have a Blackberry so the tether feature eliminates the need for a separate data plan.
I am not bashing the Tab in any way, I still love it and get a little angry every time I read the reviewers say it is a failed tablet.

I owned 4 tablets currently. The tablets that I have now are the ipad, the T-mobile Samsung Galaxy Tab, the 3G Xoom, and my new 64 GB Playbook. So far I have been playing with my Playbook constantly and neglecting other tablets. In fact, I am letting my 5 year old son and my 7 year old daughter play with the SGT and the ipad.
I post a summary of my view on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Vs. the Playbook here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1046964
It is funny because of all the tablets, the Playbook has the least apps and games and yet currently I like it the most out of all 4 tablets.....and I don't even have any black berry phone.

So I told myself, "Self what I really want for this Christmas is an Android tablet".
Now I would like to know which Android tablet you people are planning to get by Christmas. I know tablets are gonna be the top thing to get then so I could see competition stepping up. I'm gonna want a wifi only one with the option to tether my Vibrant to it (yes Im planning to still have at least one of my Vibrants by then). I know the Ipad2 and the HP pad seem a lil ahead of the game compared to the Android tablets but I'm sticking to Android cuz I want to have the freedom to customize it like I did this Vibrant. Do not reply if your NOT getting an Android tablet please.
So which Android tablet are you getting and why?

Funny you ask, I've only ordered mine (a first for me and a new one too) from Ebay just a couple days before. Aaaaaand it's a ViewSonic G tablet.
Why you ask? Well for 3 main reasons; The 10.1 inch screen, the Unmatched Dev community it flashes (only 2nd to the 7" Galaxy tab) and the great price....Im getting this for as low as 250$ with a 16gb sd and a screen protector. Couldnt have asked for a better really.
Oh and did I mention the rush of a flashmania circling through my system since I received shipping details, CRAAAAZY
If I get one it's probably going to be the asus eepad or the acer iconia, just because they're the cheapest 10" honeycomb tablets. I'm still hoping for touchpads to come back in stock though........

Outside of watching video on Netflix in bed because I don't want to move my XB360 into the bedroom, I don't see a reason to even look at a tablet, TBH. They're overhyped devices that don't offer much more than Smartphones in a more restrictive form-factor. That's the only reason I'm thinking about it, and that's why the crappy 1st gen Samsung Tab would be more than good enough for me.

One is a phone, one is a tablet phone if you get the 3G version like I did. It replaced my SGS2. I had the same decision to make. The number one question to ask yourself then is if you need a device in your POCKET all day to be contacted on. The answer for my life currently, is no. My tab goes from home to my car to my office desk. I also carry it in my jacket pocket when I must (like when I'm in town without my wife and may need to be contacted) but for practicality reasons I'm murse shopping for when summer comes around.
A good test I did myself is see if you have a way or mind carrying a book or notepad of similar size for a week. It made no impact on my life, so I got the tab. I completely understand this doesn't work for a lot of people though, you just need to find out what your needs are (pro/con list to the rescue!).
ps, there are other things to consider too of course. The Nexus has a better camera and direct OS updates from the mother land. Everything else as far as I'm concerned goes towards a 3g Tab 7.7.
To each his own!

Look like you want a combination phone and tablet I think. That's the reason why you make that comparison.
If you have a phone you would like to get a Galaxy tab 7.7 then. If you dont have a phone I would suggest you the galaxy nexus. Or you might think obout galaxy NOTE. It's very unconvenient to use tab 7.7 as a phone.
I have a HTC sensation XE and a tablet 7.7. If i only have to choose one i would like to get galaxy NOTE. It's a 5.3 inches phone.
Wait until the official announcement of the Galaxy S3, the Nexus will be about $150 cheaper then as it will be a forgotten phone when that beast comes out.
hi
i am planing on geting a samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 they are now selling them at my walmart here in sonora CAthey started selling them in 2012 i been wanting too get one but is it worth it ? i be uesing this for note takeing playing games and web sufeing but i all so been thinking about geting a ipad 4 this is so hard too pick be come they are both selling at$499
I love mine, and I bought it at best buy and got them to price match amazon at $449 for the 16gb, and I woukd have got the 32gb for $499 if the had it in stock.
am going too go a head and get samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 has it seems that this tablet can do way way more then what the ipad can
when i got the $ saved up
Do you want simplicity - Ipad, or the ability to customise how you want - Note 10.1.
It essentially comes down to what you want to use the tablet for, remember this is a forum for note 10.1 and opinions will be biased,
I like the fact that with the note I connect it to the PC and don't need to use any other apps to convert my movie files to a compatible format, the same with music, text and apps.... It has a screen thats fine for viewing and the fact it has phone capabilities (N8000) just takes the cake. Throw in the stylus and it just blitzes the competition.
I know someone will yell at me for this BUT, the ipad has a retina screen and IOS6... I hate the fact they locked down the system so hard. It has not had any major makeovers since it 1st came out. It is a simple system that I find limited and boring, hence I have a note 10.1....
Others will probably disagree and I hope it won't degrade into a Apple vs Samsung war but probably will like all these types of threads do.
I'm not saying the ipad is a useless piece of tech but from personal experience with one, I won't be buying it ever....
We have the IPad 3 and the Note n8000 and if you like to customize your device... the note wins hands down. Browsing is so much better, speakers that you can hear and No iTunes dependency I love the note and don't like using the iPad/iPhone and I was an Apple fan for years.

I must again disagree with those that think the s-pen is the only thing that makes this worthwhile. I barely use it, but still love this tab. As I mentioned in another thread, I just spent 9 days in the hospital and this thing performed flawlessly. I used it constantly because they refused to let me sleep. Not a single lock up. Battery life was great. I was great having the extra memory and never having to worry about manually killing any apps. And the few times I did need the pen, it was there.
Yes, you can buy tablets with better resolution screens. But you can't buy one that performs better.

This pretty much sums it up. The Note's only weakness is its display. Not that it's a bad display; color reproduction, contrast, and brightness are all great. But 147 PPI is a bit behind the times and not the best for text. But given a choice between a higher PPI display or all the Note's features (well beyond inking) I'd choose the latter. I think a lot of folks feel the same way.
For the price I think I'd wait until the next generation. Samsung has been dripping hints that they plan on coming out with some new stuff this year.

There will always be something better just around the corner. You can wait till the Note 10.1 version 2 comes out. But at that point version 3 will be just around the corner.
As of today, this is the best tablet available,IMO. I don't see a version 2 coming for at least another 4 months. More likely it will be more like 6 months. But it's all guess work at this point. If you need or want a tablet now, this is the one to go for.
