[Q] visionary version - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, so i have mt4g with 2.2 firmware. Ive tried visionary 12,13 and 14 none seem to work. i get parsing errors for 12 and 14. 13 only temp root works. Can some one tell me the best version to use. i have been searching for hours now and some say 11 is the best for this firmware, but the problem is that i cant find 11 any where. Please help

u need to force 2.2.1 or wait for the ota, then you can use visionary to temp root, gfree to s=off, then visionary again to permroot and it should stick. follow the guides

link to visionary 11 is int he description

Please post questions in Q&A section. Development is for developers.

R14 was the only version that ended up working for me... All others just kept running without accomplishing anything.

[Q] Im new to this, so is there root out for the FROYO update yet?

ok so ive been trying to root my phone for quite sometime now, i always get somesort of an error message or failed attempt. Ive done the SimpleRoots and the unrEVOked type roots and for whatever reasons it doesnt work and i try to follow the instructions but nothing anyways i dont want to give up trying to root the phone, so i was wodering if someone had figured out how to root froyo? and if they could maybe redirect me to another site that could maybe help me out. thanks.
If you currently have the latest OTA, there is no root for it yet and trying the previous root methods on it will not work. If you do not have the latest OTA, what are the error messages saying?
Also, there is an EVO Q&A section for questions, so in the future, you may get more responses if you post there.
Bad choice for a first post.

Have I managed Perm Root with this much ease? Visionary+ Question

About 3 hours ago, I won a Desire Z (wheeey!) at the HTC London meetup. Naturally, I came straight here after the help I got in January rooting my Desire.
I used the Visionary method and obtained temp root status, and then attempted perm root, which seemed to work. All of the guides I have read include a bunch of steps after this, one of which included deleting Visionary, which I then did. I just turned the phone off, took the battery out for a bit and then turned it back on. I still have the Superuser icon and the Terminal Emulator indicates that I have root access... is that it then? It's that simple?
Please tell me if I've done anything wrong, as I don't want to flash Cyanogen and Clockwork Recovery if it's all going to go to hell on me. Any advice or confirmation on whether or not I've obtained perm root would be lovely.
Oh, my firmware version is 1.34.405... etc. Is this simply the last version which allows for such easy root?
EDIT: Bugger, didn't realise what forum I was in, please delete this and I'll pop it in the Q&A.
accordingly you should have probably only achieved temp root. you'll probably lose access later when you restart it again.
One of the stickies for this forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1025135
No. I thought same thing when I did that. I gained temp root then 3 simple commands and BAM! S-OFF and all
Sent from my CM7 GDeux
the first desire z i got was right when it was released and at that time the only method that was available was the visionary method... and although some people were having problems with it the perm root method worked fine for me and i had a perm root desire z for over a month (then i sat on the phone and broke it lol)... my understanding is that visionary can give u perm root but by doing that it will modify a number of system files that should not be modified and that worked for some people and for others it just bricked their phones... personally i would do a hard reset of the phone to erase any damage visionary might have done to the phone system files before putting any rom on it (CM or other)... then get perm root and S-OFF the clean way using ADB ...

[Q] Reverting back to stock from CM7 w/o adb?

Hi All,
I think I am screwed here, but here goes...I have CM7 nightly 161 on my phone, but the USB port is broken, so can't use adb. Got the warranty replacement and now I need to put my broken phone back to stock.
I tried to load the stock rom from Football's thread, and it took my s-off to s-on, but said "Main version is older"
any ideas on what I can do to revert back? or am I screwed? been trying for hours, and I am just
Since you have root privileges in CM7, you can execute the downgrading guide without the need for temp-root through ADB.
Read the Wiki, "Root" section, "Downgrade MT4G to 2.2.1" guide, execute it all from inside Terminal Emulator on the phone. Don't run fre3vo, you don't need it. Just overwrite the MISC partition as directed, and then you'll be able to flash PD15IMG.ZIP. Link to Wiki in my signature.
thanks for the quick reply, but it says permission denied for both the "root" section and the fre3vo section
Please read my post again. Didn't I write clearly - skip the rooting / fre3vo part?
Execute ONLY the downgrade part.
Specifically, execute the following part:
Changing Version Number to Allow Downgrade
Get an SD Card adapter and use Footballs Gingerbread RUU in the development section. It will give you the gingerbread update, you will lose root, and you will have s=on. Easiest fool proof way.

Here the method i did to downgrade my phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912 I know it works. went to that wiki and the link posted there is the same as the one i posted.
Thanks for the help! my issue was that I was trying to make the version file executable from the sdcard not realizing that it needs to be local.
once i did that, smooth sailing. THANKS!!
Congrats Glad it worked.

He couldn't use RUU. He wrote - "Main version is older" showed up when he attempted. That's why me and Wolf pointed him to downgrading guide.

Visionary no longer working for me

So I never actually rooted my mytouch 4g because the temp root for Visionary r14 always worked for my Titanium backups. Over the last month or so, though, I've kept trying to temp root (even with trying r12 and r14, and even with loading and reloading and retrying etc.) without success. Figured I'd hit up XDA to see if anyone had an idea with regard to how to either temp/perm root without Visionary.
Cheers,
Jeff
There is a sticky thread for rooting. Should be able to help you.
from the mind of minolta
Were you updated to android 2.3.4?

wrong section, but did u try the gfree method and also as it was mentioned, did u update to 2.3.4?
Still on 2.2.1 (hasn't changed since I got the phone). No, I didn't try gfree... its instructions state to use Visionary to temp root and, as I mentioned in the first post (well, and the thread subject), Visionary isn't working to temp root my phone anymore, which is why I'm totally perplexed as to where to begin.

Try this guide:
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/TMobile_myTouch_4G:_Full_Update_Guide
Stop just before "Flashing CyanogenMod" and you'll be perm-rooted with stock and S-OFF.
So I just unmounted my sd card and tried Visionary r14's temp root again. It worked. I also remounted my sd card and am running my Titanium backup again. CMSTLIST, I'll most likely end up perm-rooting my phone with the info you posted earlier, but for now, I'm good to go.
Cheers, folks.
