Rogers Galaxy Tab? - Galaxy Tab General

So, with Canada being behind and all.... is there a way to root/flash my tab to make and receive calls? Or do I have to follow the att method? Does rooting accomplish this, or is that the first part? Is it the same as rooting, flashing a phone?
thx

The Rogers Tab is the AT&T Tab is the Bell Tab. All SCH-I897 units internally.
But you have much to study, grasshopper, if you don't know the difference between rooting and flashing.
Rooting is simply getting root access to the device, think of it as giving you administrator rights. Does nothing by itself to the functioning of the device.
Flashing is the act of replacing the firmware, which includes the operating system. You don't need to be rooted to flash, and flashing will wipe out any previous rooting (think of it like doing a fresh install of Windows).
A combination of flashing and rooting, however, can lead to wonderful things.

agreed, thx. I ended up doing both 5 minutes later... I was just a little surprised how much different it was then my nexus one and desire hd...
already made some calls on it! My only complaint? Getting the sim in and out is a tight fit...

With so many posts available explaining how to do this, which one is the safest (best) to follow in order to do this on my Bell - unlocked GT?
Thanks

i did this, but I think you start with the oneclick root... which is fast and easy and then do what the post says....

[Q] Noob seeking Root advice

hi,
I want to root my Desire Z as I would like to use Titanium Back Up Pro. I have checked thru the threads here. And, well, I am totally confused.
On TheRomMistress's great sticky there are 27 guides with at least 11 dealing with rooting the phone. Some of these guides refer you to other guides and these refer you to yet more guides for various reasons (updates etc).
I know a lot of the guides were initially worked out before the whole NAND lock was cleared up.
So my question is which guide should a noob follow to get root?
I love the whole android experience, love Sense and think my phone is all shiny, sparkly etc. I may want at a later stage to try out some of the other ROMs but so far I really love stock (heck, my previous phone was a windows 2003 Magician with BigStorage courtesy of XDA!!). I just want to be able to back it up.
Thanks for your help guys.
personally i used this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843014
worked well once i had reset my phone and made sure my sd card was clean. Read up on adb before you attempt though so you know what is happening at each stage, it makes the whole process easier. And if things don't work as expected you'll be able to sort it.
The method listed in the official Wiki is the one recommended by most people nowadays: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision#OTA_Updates.
It is generally considered the "safe" way to attempt root at this point. There were reports of semi-bricks caused by the permroot function in Visionary so general consensus is not to use it. For other guides (such as the one linked to earlier), if you have a typo while flashing the engineering HBOOT, you could cause a semi-brick as well (though if you follow the instructions carefully, it shouldn't be a problem).
A typo with the Wiki method shouldn't lead to a semi-brick though. It also has the added benefits of not only giving you root, but also true radio S-OFF, SuperCID, and subsidy unlock (if your phone was originally locked to a specific carrier).
That being said, as long as you read carefully and follow instructions, you should be fine following most any of the guides.
thanks guys for the answers and sorry for my delay in replying. The wife came home with a new netbook that she "needs". I do get the joy of setting up something I'll never get to use. Yay!! hmmmm
I'll read thru all this and hope to try this out over the weekend.
Again thanks guys.
Just use gfree method, its painless

Rooting and Loading ROMs on Korean Nexus S (SHW-M200K)

Hey guys. First time posting because I couldn't find what I was looking for. I only found one thread asking about this specific phone but the answer didn't really cover the rooting process. I'm in South Korea in the Army and this was the phone I chose before doing a ton of research.
My question is: Which procedures will I follow to root and unlock the bootloader for this phone? Is there an American/European version that I can treat it like? I'm mostly trying to get HD video recording with a custom ROM, but I want to over/underclock as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Bobby
I'm not sure how the Korean versions differ, but from what I read, I think the Nexus S is not capable of recording true HD video due to hardware limitations? Correct me if I'm wrong.
From what I've read it's a ROM restriction, but that's not the only reason I want it rooted.
Bump.
Buuump... Please? Anybody?
I'm really needing to under clock my CPU for battery life.
You can try the GingerBreak method - that is a simple download and click root process.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Or you can try the method for the I9020
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=895545
Good luck...
I tried to root Korean device. It's not different than I9020. You can search in xda to root it

Just got a DX. Want to root. But It's .621.

So I just got this phone and I used to have an EVO. Rooting and flashing was easy. Now im reading that if you have the new update, it's a whole process. I seen the .621 update using ubuntu process. Is that the best way?
I've tried the doroot, and the easy one step root thing. But to no avail.
Probably because I'm on that .621 update.
I really want to get this phone to ICS. So I need root. Also I see alot of worry about data loss or inability to make calls after root process. Does that apply to me since I'm going to flash it to MetroPCS?

You have to do the Ubuntu method. I would recommend reading the first few pages of the topic before proceeding. The op leaves out some key things...

ATT Root_Recovery Help

I am new to the Samsung Phone.
I come form a Droid X which i successfully rooted and returned to stock using SBF files.
I want to root my SG3 but also want a proven method to return to stock if i soft brick the phone.
I see a few methods listed but remain confused as to which one to use. I have become familiar with booting the phone into upload and download modes and with using Odin.
What thread and method would you suggest i use so i will not destroy my 600 dollar phone?
Sorry for the newbie question but a still a bit uneasy about doing this.
Lenny
I personally used the Odin no trip method (although my phone still says
modified ) any ways worked perfect for me. This seems to be the safest method for at&t phones.
Im sure some one else will chime in.
Any ways if were you I would first and foremost check out the stickies here and in the dev section and the "read first " threads.
And for that matter...welcome!

[Q] Galaxy s4 rooting

I am wanting to root my Galaxy S4 and I just wanted some tips on not breaking it after I root it. Any help would be appreciated :cyclops:
Just follow the rooting instructions precisely and you will be fine. As for breaking your phone outside of the rooting process, you need to be more precise.
Sent from my Galaxy S4.
I haven't bought this phone YET. But, being rooted and flashing roms for 3.5 years my advice would be:
Read everything you can and reread it. Then reread it again. I think the S4 is easier to root than my HTC phones were and probably hard to brick in a way you could not recover from.
Make a backup with app like MyBackUp Pro, back up your sdcard also and put both backups on your pc.
As soon as you root, do a nandroid and copy it to pc also. Leaving a copy on sdcard.
Think things thru before you do anything. So, you don't make a dumb mistake like we all have at one time or another.
Enjoy the roms and theming you will have access to--
Nothing should happened ... if you follow every single detail of the whatever guide your looking at ...
