Hey all. I have searched but I was unable to find a thread pertaining this issue.
Phone: Android Dev Phone 1
Running: JFv1.50 ADP1.5
What has happened is that today SU/Root seemingly stopped working. I discovered it when I bought Kosh's Screenshot app and started it up. The app requires SU permission, and therefore the "SU Request" window popped up. But it's blank. A blank black screen which eventually will run low on memory and then force close.
I then tried to open the Superuser Permission app, same result. Opened Task Manager for Root Users, same deal. Opened the Terminal Emulator and typed "su", which actually worked! I still had SU privs there. Closed the TE and decided to reboot the phone, and now I don't have SU privs in TE anymore. Everything that's non root related is still working fine.
Does anyone have an idea what's happening here? I suspect that maybe the Market Enabler app or the AdsFree apps could have something to do with it, because they're the only root related apps I have installed the last few weeks, before this problem occurred.
I'm sure a wipe would fix this glitch, but I'd prefer not to do that unless it's necessary. Plus, it would be nice to know what's causing this, so I can avoid it in the future.
Same thing has happened to me. It worked fine for Term Emu, task manager, and ad block. But I tried using an OC app and when super user popped up blank. All my previous apps still work but any new root apps I install do not work. Not sure why though and the only way I found to fix it is to wipe. Do you have your apps on the sd card? I'm using the old method haven't gotten around to trying the new method. Not sure if that is the issue or not, the old version of super user never gave me any issues.
I did a wipe, and it sorted the problem out, for some root apps. Now I'm back to the same crap again though, the SU Request window pops up but it's all black and eventually it force closes.
According JF's blog he included "a much better Superuser app, courtesy of zinx" in the 1.50 release. It's obviously what's causeing our problems, I never had an issue with the old one, but I don't know what to do about it. I don't want to go back to 1.1 or Haykuro's builds. I guess I'm stuck with a semi-crippled JFv1.50 ADP1.5 until someone with more brains than me finds and posts a proper solution.
Yeah Ive been noticing the same thing. Also the superuser list GUI is horrible. I liked how in the last one you can choose what programs you'd want to remove su access from.

Exactly. I'm not sure what he means by "a much better Superuser app", because for a layman like myself it seems a lot worse than the old one
This is just going from bad to worse. Now I discovered I have no positioning via wifi/3G anymore. I have to start the GPS and go outside and wait for a signal to get a lock on my position, which sucks. What the hell is going on? If not even a wipe is enough I guess I'm looking at a complete reinstall, but if all this has happened once it can/will happen again. I would much prefer to find the cause of all this crap.
Ok, so I found the cause for the Assisted GPS issue at least. My Micro SD card needed repairs. I put it in a SD card adapter and plugged it in to my laptop and let Vista repair the file system (apparently there were close to 100 errors on the damn thing) and now it seems to be working again.
Edit: This might actually have fixed my issues with the superuser permissions too. Knock on wood. I'll have to get back to you on this.
I'm having this Exact issue
I am having this exact same issue on dudes build. I have tried everything from scanning to formatting the SD i have flashed back and forth from Jf1.42 to jf1.50 and then to all different dude builds and i have no clue what to do next.
I do a wipe every time i flash and the only way to get any su access is to have jf1.42 or haykuro build. Anyone Else having an issue? I have been working on this for 3 days straight now...
For me it was an SD card issue. If you have a spare card, try that instead, or if you can borrow a card from a friend, just to see if it resolves your problems.
I realize that you have repaired/formatted your SD card, but it could be something wrong with it that screws things up. Worth a try, right?
Absolutely I'm looking for one right now thanks for the quick response. I'll let you know if it works. I have a 2gb sandisk in there now, so i still have my 1gb and my girlfriends 1gb too. Her phone has no su problems at all.
I also ran across the same problem reported here, only a wipe solved it. I believe it had something to do with the Market Enabler (non-signed) app, which was the only one I installed that first showed me the dreadful empty SU screen...
Fixed It
My Problem has been fixed by formatting the sd card with the phone itself.
I copied off all my info, unmounted it from the computer, unmounted it from the phone, this gave the option to format the sd card.
Once that was done i copied all my data back and when i installed programs from my sd i have not had a single su problem since.
I was having all these same problems in JF's 1.5 build, and none of the wiping/formatting SD/trying a different SD card combinations did the trick. Then, I went into JF's blog post where he released 1.5, and someone posted there that enabling USB debugging would fix the issue. I did this, and what do you know, now my superuser permissions app works again in everything, even in unsigned apps! Maybe this is why a wipe fixed it for some people, and not for others?

Not to Jesus resurrect this thread, but I had the same issue and same fix as n17ikh here on the ION build. Enabled USB debugging and su/superuser permissions started working Too bad I have to disable USB debugging in order for my car stereo to mount my G1 as a USB device, but at least I have a solution
Hope this helps anyone else who may stumble upon this.
Hey I have the Fat32/EXT2 setup on my memory card, so if I wanted to upgrade, will it still work fine and also this new 1.51 I would grab the US version wouldnt I? Then would it be a smooth upgrade or what? I swear I hate when so many different firmwares come out, then cupcake etc. Not even sure if JF has cupcake or what that was all about, cause I thought things still had issues?
Anyways do I just upgrade or is there more I would have to do? And is JF cupcake in anyway?
when you flash the new firmware you will delete the files, so most likely all you'll need to do after you flash is to copy the files back to flash0 and reboot. you may have to reinstall your apk's but they should still be on your sdcard, so just run linda's file manager to access them.
So if I do upgrade, I am going to have to copy what back to flash0? I hate being confused, been sitting here the past hour reading threads and not sure what exactly I am supposed to be doing. >.< Thing about me is I always research before playing with my toys... Never wanna make a mistake. So many mods one can do on a G1 not sure when someone upgrades what has to be done again >.< Got too many apps to reinstall one by one.
goto the thread about appstosd program.
Looking at the comparison chart right now. Seems JF ADP is better now since I guess it has built in apps to sd already? Should I just convert from the Tmobile version to the ADP one? If so would I have to "wipe" to do that?
Edit: Ok I just learned of JF Rom update app on the market, If I use that and update, I take it update radio 1st then the to 1.51? Also after I would do that, to relink my apps, Do I need to use the script or would it auto do that? Which steps am I using here?
Well ok I see if I wanted to change build types I would wanna wipe then start up. So I would assume then If I wanted to change builds, I need to go back and install 1 by one again? Or whats the deal with that? Not sure what nandroid would do for that.
All jf builds now support a2sd, but it does not link for you. After you install them, you'll hav e to manually link say /data/app to the folder in sd. Read the various a2sd posts and you'll know how.
Also, perform a nandroid backup before you upgrade. You could choose not to wipe and see if the phone works. (But you're strongly advised to delete dalvik-cache after loading a new build.) If it doesn't, you can always go back to recovery mode and do a wipe. (Wiping will not clear the system you've just updated.)
Ok update. Here is what I have done, In the past I used Lucids for the app to sd and then the data and cache move. That was for RC33.
Now I used JF Rom Upgrader to download and install the new cupcake radio. I installed that one 1st, installed fine.
I then uploaded the update.zip from Lucids post with 1.51 Tmobile build, USA. The update went through fine.
G1 reboots, Im happily surprised, my apps are still there! And work! (In otherwords my apps were still reading off the SD card and cache too I am assuming)
Now the glitch part. Anything requesting root access is glitching up on me, You know the screen that comes up and says "Grant root access" Well the top part shows "SU Request" but the screen is blank, cant pick anything, I can hit home and go back to the main page. Not sure what that is about, or if thats implying I need to do a wipe and start over or if there is something missing. But so far least things are still working and so. Just the SU glitch, cant use SU in terminal either since that page popping up will be blank. =/ Ideas anyone? Thanks.
i am facing sever internal memory problem. A month ago while facing the same issue. It was around 400MB a month ago but it started going down on daily basis. Couple of days ago, it was 113MB and today i am hovering around 100MB.
Did not install any software, instead i am constantly uninstalling them. Checked via settings--->applications--->Manage applications and the largest application i have is "calendar storage" that is taking 46.55MB... facebook takes around 28MB and the if i count all the apps till the size of 1 MB, they are not more than 300MB. i don't think so that the remaining apps having a size of less than a MB will accumulate to 600MB.
Don't know what to do... please suggest...
I think any tries to answer would fail without having more details:
What ROM do you have? What have you tried so far? Can you try a factory reset?
A different ROM, maybe?

using HTC sense... did not root it... factory reset is an option but i am not sure whether it would help... also, anybody with any possible reasons so it can be avoided?
Froyo or Gingerbread?
Could be an app/service with a memory leak.
Maybe there is something corrupted in the system partition.
Did you experience any phone reboots/application crashes?
Do you have the latest over the air software update?
Is the phone up-to-date?
I'm no expert, I'm just trying to help.

Sense 2.1
Android 2.3.3
Since it's a UK based phone, HTC says 2.3.5 and sense 2.3 will be sent in couple of days.
I did not experience any unexpected reboots/application crash....
All of my software is bought from android market and i keep them updated.
Last night after posting this topic, i deleted couple of apps and the memory was increased to 123MB from 103... just checked now... (after 12hours), its already 116MB with the annoying memory notification on top bar....
I downloaded an app called "diskusage" that shows the following breakdown:
Applications: 296 MB
System Data: 753 MB
Free: 112 MB
As per my understanding, system data is the culprit... is it normal? and any suggestions to fix it?

If you would have had root, it would be simple: do a full backup, wipe the device and see if it happens again. If it does, restore from backup, you're back and didn't lose and info. In your case it's quite hard to find the cause.
Not sure you'll be able to find the cause without wiping out.
Maybe uninstalling apps one by one might work? It'll take time.
I have one question because I see you write "memory" but from the discussions it's not clear if you're talking of free RAM of storage space.
Memory normally means RAM but now I think you might be speaking of the storage space.
There is a big difference between the two.
The increase of data is due to apps that save a lot of things and almost never clean
Even when you uninstall
The good behaviour to have is the remove apps through the settings doing first : force stop app (if running) then remove data (which is causing your trouble) then uninstall app and only then
Because if you don't you have to parse manually your data and find what was kleft behind and remove it (requires root)
Download this app and see if it's able to clear a lot of data.

If nothing works, do a factory reset. Just make sure you've ticked both options under Settings>Privacy, so that you'll get back your apps when you sign in with your Google account. Also check that you've saved your contacts as Google contacts. Your SD card won't be erased unless you choose it.
That should clear any redundant files or whatever is hogging your space. It'll be a bit of work to set your phone up again, but it'll be as good as new.
nothing worked, i did the factory reset and memory is back to normal - showing 60MB of system data and 200 MB of application data... mybackup was pretty useful!
thanks all for your suggestions but i believe there was a leakage.
I wanted to bypass the kitkat restrictions and be able to upload directly to the external SD card with AirDroid, but this seriously backfired on me lol. Ever since editing the platform.xml file in /system/etc/permissions/ and rebooting the phone I've been stuck in a continuous force close loop. I've wiped the cache but this didn't improve anything. I was able to turn all data connections off which actually prevents the force closing from happening, but that seriously diminishes how smart my smartphone is so staying like that is not an option
Now that I've stopped the messages from happening, I've noticed that my internal SD isn't being recognized anymore. Camera doesn't work, the file manager shows zero files and my gallery doesn't show any pictures either. Same for the MP3 player. Most apps are broken now, but some who don't require an internet connection still work.
At this point I'm thinking that I've probably corrupted my internal SD? I think my system partition is fine as I can still run apps and use the system as it should, but I can no longer create files, maps or do anything that requires my internal SD.
Are there any suggestions as to what I should do next? Formatting/factory resets are a last resort so I'm hoping anything can be done to recover my phone! Thanks in advance!

Your SD card is recognized by the PC or laptop? I think you wrote some fault in the platform.xml file... can't correct it?

My PC is able to recognize the internal memory and that there is only 2,7GB of free space (which seems about right). However, when I enter the drive it appears empty. Windows isn't able to see anything. So in that regard Windows is acting the same as my phone.
As for platform.xml, I added <group gid=”media_rw” /> to “WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE“ and didn't do anything else besides that. It's really weird how this happened in the first place.
Any suggestions how to go from here? =)
edit;
I also removed the added permission but this didn't change a thing.

Should have probably tried this. Instead I became frustrated with the device and did a factory reset (which didn't solve a thing) so the problem is somewhere in the system which is causing the errors. Going to flash the latest stock rom in a bit and HOPEFULLY the phone will work again.

A factory reset will only wipe the /data part. Because you did something in /system that part is untouched. A reflash should fix it.

Yeah I noticed, my bad.
However, I flashed the latest stock rom and did another factory reset but the problem is still present. I keep getting a force close loop. What am I forgetting? What can I still do to fix this problem? I'm at a loss here xd

hi,
As you were "playing around " with your externalSD why you don't copy everything you have on it , format it and see if it works ..before restoring anything onto it
Hi all,
I have a OnePlus 6T, rooted with Magisk and have TWRP installed.
After the latest Oxygen OS update (currently 9.0.15), I rerooted as normal and got everything going again. When I launched AdAway and tried to sync its list, it failed saying there was insufficient root storage. Lo and behold, when I checked with Solid Explorer, my root folder has 0 bytes remaining of its 2.71GB capacity.
Since I figured it would be inadvisable to start deleting things from the root storage, I wanted to check and see if anyone else has run into this, or if anyone has a solution.
I also have Titanium Backup if it's possible that that is part of the problem.
Thanks!

Vert well known issue, many threads and posts about that. Use a debloater or erase some system apps like YouTube (and install them again from play store they will be installed in user space not system) with a file explorer

Thanks, I searched (for root storage full and some variants of that) but only found one thread that didn't have a clear solution. Erasing and reinstalling a few system apps did, but I installed Tomatot debloater from here that solved my issue: https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ol-tomatot-debloater-basic-script-to-t3869427

Yeah I use that great little tool
Is there anyway we can increase that space or have it redirect to SD card once it's full?
