Omnia 7 in Boston Area? - Omnia 7 General

Does anyone have the Omnia 7 in the Boston area? I'd like to hear how the 3G coverage is. Thanks!

Got my Omnia 7 today and using it in Boston. No problems getting a 3G signal and actually getting 3G+ notification next to my signal bar! I've noticed it's a bit faster than my Focus browsing the web.

Is this so?
I've been hearing reports that you can't get 3G in the US with the Omnia 7.
Can you please confirm? Thanks.

Nexus still has this issue I gave my wife my nexus and got the Hd2 for this reason
I'm in the San Jose Area and I don't have that problem.
same problem here in Olympia. went to the store to see what was up and the awesome clerks were more confused then i was
I'm not experiencing any issues like that here in Virginia Beach, VA. Sorry to hear about that, I know it would frustrate me!
Same city, Constant 3G at home but there are some areas of San Jose that I notice no signal or very weak signal. T-Mobile Store on Curtner for example.
same problems in Denver.
lost my tethering connection a few times due to this. I forced it to just the GSM/EDGE band, it's more reliable, but is SLOOOW.

nope. and no word as to if the 2.09.51.03 radio works on the stock rom.

I'm wandering if the other 3g mobile devices of tmobile have this..
Seems like Nexus One issue
I have the same issue, fluctuating from 3 bar 3G to 3-4 bar edge.
From what I read on other forums Nexus one seems to have had the same issue on TMo network. I am not sure if it is resolved yet.
I am kinda having the problem but I was told because they are about to launch HSDPA in my area so they have been turning it on and off alto so its messing with my reception and going from E to 3G to H and back and forth

(POLL) HD2+T-Mobile OR TouchPro+ATT

Which would you choose in my situation? Keep the TP w/ATT or keep HD2+T-Mobile? I live in Hawaii if that helps.
Main problem...
ATT= Better coverage with 3G. Almost every place I go, it stays at 3G 95% of the time, but either it's the small Touch Pro 1, or the 3G is slow.
Touch Pro= Small screen(hate to say this but my eyes have gotten worse in the last year. Very hard to read), GPS takes minutes to get a lock, and my GPS programs always lags at least 3-5 seconds of where I really am. Bluetooth doesn't work well with Microsoft Voice Command.
AND
T-Mobile= 3G is weird. I have signal 60% of the time. But if I walk indoors, I could be at 50% signal, but it might switch to Edge (not sure if it's the HD2 fault). When I have a 3G signal, I swear it seems faster than the same bars for the ATT 3G.
HD2= LARGE SCREEN! I LOVE IT! GPS signal locks in 10-30 seconds at most. And the GPS has maybe at most a second lag of where I really am. Bluetooth and Microsoft Voice has issue. And my Igo8 doesn't play well with TTS on the HD2, when it works on my Touch Pro.
SO which choice should I go with? It seems I should stick with the HD2, but T-Mobile signal bothers me. Its weird to see 3G go away and E pops up. And once in a while no phone signal, but if I dial when that happens, it gets a signal and dials. So as a PHONE, it works. But using the Internet on Edge is not so good. BUT the phone is awsome compaired to the Touch Pro I have.
I'm running out of time, so I thought I would ask your view.
On a side note, I vacation once a year to CA to take kids Disneyland and Legoland etc, how good is the coverage for 3G in your experience for ATT and T-Mobile?
T-Mobile is upgrading HSPA+ so for a few months in major cities it will be the fastest and strongest network until verizon rolls out LTE. So you should see some increase in the coming months. I care more about the device than the network speed but thats my personal preference. I used EDGE on my iPhone 3G instead of 3G better battery life, edge was actually faster lol. Any who I hated the Touch Pro or FUZE w/e and swapped it out after 3 months of use. Had the iPhone until last sunday when I bought myself a HD2. This phone blows everything out the water right now. I would never switch back.
Also A 3rd option would be buy a HD2 full price and unlock it. Thats what I did.
I chose to go with the HD2 on AT&T's network.
Is Hawaii 1900 or 850 for AT&T?
3G on AT&T has been a lot better lately, they're finally getting enough capacity in to deal with all the iPhone tards here in the Bay Area.

You got me there. But AT&T while, it didn't seem fast, I seem to always have a 3G signal. More often than I care, I notice the "E" showing up on the HD2. Even when it tells me it had 3 bars on 3G before changing to E with 3-5 bars.
I have T-Mobile HTC HD2 service and I work in orange county near Disneyland (within 3 miles). The signal strength is very good and I rarely see an EDGE signal popping out.
San Diego also has good signal strength similar to Orange County. My girlfriend lives in San Diego so I go down once in a while.
I would get T-Mobile HD2 and you can always use Wi-Fi from home if you do not have very good 3G coverage there.
I use Wi-Fi at home even I have 3G anyway! My home is at LA county and it is still got pretty good 3G speed.
I have yet tried my 3G coverage in northern California but will get to try it in a few weeks since I am attending my friend's wedding up in the north close to San Jose.
Hope this helps and you really cannot go wrong with the HD2~!
Just came out of ATT to buy this awesome device... no question HD2 & T-Mo. Ofcourse, 3G coverage is less, but in the SF city I have full coverage (better) & most importantly, no more freaking dropped calls!
I have both, HD2 all the way. So far in OC, signal quality is about the same (2G/3G) except T-Mobile doesn't drop my calls, and call sound quality is slightly better.

I can't comment on ATT's 3G coverage in HI but just to throw another option in here, if you wanted to go with the ATT network (I used to have Tmobile and wasn't crazy about it), then look for an HD2 T9193 on Ebay or elsewhere and you're good to go. It has the 850mhz hardware to support the ATT 3G network. I'm thrilled with mine so far. You'll be spending more on the hardware but you don't get forced into a higher priced data plan - you can opt for their 'MEdia Net' for $20/month (rather than $30+/month) and no no contract, which IMO is an 'upgrade' in and of itself.
Just go to t-mobile give it a shot, you have 30 days to cancel your contract so you can always go back to att.

hspa plus south florida

Ok, my hspa+ does not work, my top speeds have been 3.2 ....I was wondering if anyone else here in south florida is picking up quicker speeds, I'm using the quick speeds app to see what network speed I'm running also, If you guys know any other one I can use please let me know.
Its been really random for me. I dont think hspa+ is active in all of south florida.
However the other night I was getting 7-9 Mbps constantly. I use speedtest.net app.

Miami or Ft Lauderdale? I know West Palm wont be active until the end of the year i think
I drove around today between Hollywood and boca - no H+ indicator at all. The best speed test I've seen was 7mbps on Hollywood Blvd. Thing is, my Nexus One supports HSDPA, so not a huge difference between the two devices in that regard.
I'm sick of T-Mo's bull**** on this, their coverage map is retarded and we can't get a clear idea of wtf service we are supposed to be getting.
That, among many other reasons (especially MMC write protection), is why my G2 goes back to T-Mo this week.

Hey everyone,
Just to add, Im also in South FLA, miami to be exact and I too have been experiencing pretty odd signals on my G2. Sometimes my speeds are blazing fast then all of a sudden I'm running on edge with super low speeds.
It seems to me as the phone has trouble staying connected to one network and is constantly switching.
(I'm on my 2nd G2 btw since I thought it was a hardware related issue)

Go into settings / about phone / status - you will see exactly what network type you are connected to (UMTS, HSDPA, etc) I'm not sure how + would show up, or if the indicator at the top changes, but you should be able to tell from that screen or the "Phone Information" screen (dial *#*#4636#*#*)

It's crazy, in westchester I get pretty nice 3G speeds, but I go to kendall and I'm on edge. And it seems like its the most random switchoff too, because 5 steps in one direction I'm back on 3G, so I don't know if it's the phone or tmo's network. I expect edge in the middle of BFE, not in the middle of a pretty densely populated area.
add.: I've never seen my phone connect to the HSPA network, ever. The UMTS 3G has been enough to get me by I guess, it's just the random edge switching thats confusing me.
i live in miami, near the miami international airport. on average my nexus one would run about 1.5-2.5mb per second. with an occasional spike around the 4mb realm.
in contrast, my g2 is getting me 2-4.2 on average with spikes as high as 9mb per second.
Here in Boca the fastest i have gotten is around 3 Mbps in East Boca. In West Boca i only get edge at my house , i have to use wifi at home.
Side note: wow there are alot of South Floridians here, lol.

You all need to understand the difference from 3G to HSPA+.
HSPA+ is not 4G network like sprint it is simply a boost to the 3G network. On 3G you would never ever achieve a download speed of 4mb down constantly there for H+ is working how it should. I am getting anywhere from 3mb to 7mb down in NYC and evryone should know that in the city the service kinda blows.
What we should be upset about is the fact they stated we will achieve up to 20mb down. Still I also believe that its too soon for H+ to get these speeds as these "towers" are fairly new and not everywhere yet.
Give it time people and figure out how far you are from your H+ towers. I reach what I do only from 4+ miles away. I still think it isn't bad as it is faster then regular 3G

HSDPA is HSPA and HSPA+ - both appear as "H" in the signal indicator.
UMTS appears as "3G" in the signal indicator.
There is no distinction between HSPA and HSPA+ according to T-Mobile - the phone will display H/HSDPA for either.

Actually your'e wrong on a couple of points here...
First off, the G2 (and MyTouch HD) have only been advertised to do 14mbps. The 21mbps upgrade does not happen until next year.
Second, just because you have a certain connection, that doesn't mean you can pull that much bandwidth from the internet. There are many obstacles: Traffic on your local cell, insufficient backhaul bandwidth to the tower, any connectivity issues between your tower and the other end of the connection, etc.
This applies to any sort of service, cable, dsl, mobile, etc: Just because you have X mbps connection does not mean that you will see X mbps to every site on the web.
On DSL, for example, you are less limited by others in your area, you have a 1:1 connection that terminates at your local central office. But on Cable or Wireless, you are sharing the available bandwidth X:1 with all others in your "neighborhood" (cable) or cell (wireless).
So your actual speed depends on many factors. Take speed tests with a grain of salt, the bigger issue for mobile is latency, not bandwidth. All the bandwidth in the world still makes a 300ms round-trip time "feel" slow.

Same here, I seem to get the best reception around 137th Ave and Coral way actually. (A go there alot to eat at some place)
And the speeds there are almost at 1MB/sec (Yes i'm saying 1MegaByte not megabit)
But a few hundred feet west of that spot and I'm already running on Edge. O_O

Actually, there is no real 4G network yet. Sprint, like T-Mobile, have used the term 4G for marketing purposes.
Here's a good read on Sprint's forums:
http://community.sprint.com/baw/message/141144
With the HSPA+ infrastructure upgrades, T-Mobile also gained the ability for HSDPA to cap at 7.2mbps. So in reality, you might see 6+mbps.
As for the coverage in urban areas, Verizon's frequency is better suited to penetrate buildings and urban environments. This is why they have been so successful in cities like NYC, while GSM-based providers have trouble with weak spots around any given corner.

Mine drops signal at when im at work in a steel warehouse. I had no problems on orange with my old phone.
Im also on Vodafone.
I have a friend at work with the Desire HD. He is on Vodafone and we always get the same poor signal in the same spots.
I thought it was the phone at first, but it is Vodafone. They just have a weaker signal it seems.
T-Mobile/Orange will have the strongest signals because they use each other for boosts.
I do notice though, that when the phone displays 2 bars and i turn data on, the signal sometimes cuts off completely. (at work only, i have full signal outside wherever i go).
It does make me believe that some sneaky designer has programmed the software to make the signal look stronger than it actually is. Turning 3g on forces the phone to display its true signal is my guess.
I also noticed if you slide the pad out and hold the phone as you would normally hold the pad, that you get a stronger data signal. It gets even stronger if you slide the pad out and then place it on a table without holding it.
I'm on Three UK and besides in my house I normally get between 3 - 5 bars HSDPA anywhere in Manchester. My house has bad signal on any phone / network combo for some reason... Thank god for Wi-Fi!

I get a full 5 bars at work (up on 7th floor in an old building in Iowa). However I get 0-2 bars when at home.
I notice that this device consistently has lower bar counts than my other devices, even when sporting similar -Db levels for signal strength. I think it is a combination of poor antenna engineering and slight shifts in what the bars mean for strengths.

[REF]/[POLL] Who has EE in the UK (Not T-Mobile or Orange Variants)

Hey all, im trying to gather some information aroung EE's great 4G network in the UK.
We all know the "Coverage Checker's" on these Carriers websites arent accurate, so im trying to get a more accurate locations of were 4G is enable.
I Know its Enables in Southampton, i dont know postcodes as i was only driving through on M3 - M27 and 4G came up. To be precise when it came up i was passing one of the Dock slip roads and i had 2-3 bars.
I live in Basingstoke. RG21 5JR postcode, and i dont have a 4G coverage, if i go up the road a little bit (Literally half a mile) i get a 3bar 4G signal.
Can all of you that are on EE let us know if you have a 4G signal? How strong? And what postal code area?
Thanks all. . .

Care to vote in the Poll mate?
ws13 (lichfield) is supposedly a 4g area, I only pick it up in the doctors and closer to the center of lichfield. Equally where I work is a "low" 4g area but I constantly have 1-2 bars of 4g which is seriously fast.
Overall I would say I'm happy with it, shame I get through data even quicker than before :S
Im on EE, home is in London but I study in Birmingham
London: averages between 10 to 20mb usually 2 or 3 bars. but in places with stronger signal, 4 of full, ive got up to 50mb which was amazing
Birmingham: the area I'm in has weaker 4g, one bar usually, on occasion I get 2. Here I seem to get around 10mb constantly
