hi,
i have put facebook, twitter, google accnt, friendstream and others apps on manual update. I don't suspect any other apps using data connection. still I see my mobile network/wifi being used.
any idea guys who's using it? is it Sense UI? OS?
i have enabled auto update for firmware updates but than that should not be that much frequent.
thanks.

I am running CM5b4 and have noticed that the backup option even though enabled does not backup any of my settings or apps after a wipe. Is this feature disabled in custom roms? Is there something I'm missing that does not allow a proper sync? Picasa, gmail, calender, etc...all sync properly. Thanks in advance XDA!

It doesn't actually back up your apps...just the record of what apps you had. It does backup your bookmarks and settings to the cloud, however. Upon booting after a wipe, it should automatically sync your settings, bookmarks, and download your apps from the Market if you have a data connection.
Thanks. The market list did show up with both free/paid apps but after a few minutes only the paid apps remained and non downloaded automatically. As to settings and bookmarks they never reappeared. I had a 3g connection the whole time. Would flashing the stock rom before cm5b4 or possibly formatting the SD card be a possible fix for my issue or would it not matter since its only supposed to sync with Google's servers? Any suggestions are welcome.
You're gonna have to wait for someone else to answer that... I'm unrooted.
I'm on cyanogenMod 5.0 b4. I can check. I don't know where that "backup my settings" thing is, though. Where can I find that?
It's located under Settings>Privacy>Bacup Up My Settings...I found that when I flashed back to the shipping rom (stock) ER79 the feature worked fine, but when flashing to cm5b4 it stopped working again.
perhaps you can check:
settings --> Privacy
took me long enough time to figure that out

Yes. You flashed back to stock, and I assume you didn't load any apps, so Google's last record of your system was one without any apps, hence they're off the list.
I really hope someone can tell me how to get that option back, it's not in the MidNIGHT ROM. (I'm on an Epic)
I know its an old thread but I didn't want to open a new one.
Is there a website I can visit to see what's backed up for which devices under my accounts. I have 4 android devices, I'm curious whats up all in there, as seemingly this process does work, but sometimes not 100%

www.google.com/dashboard
that is the most extensive look at your data that I know of. the only thing it shows with regard to Android is your IMEI number for your devices. maybe poke around and see if you can find more stuff.
I want to remove apps like peep, stocks, and news but can't figure out how to.
I cannot get stocks and news to stop syncing no matter what I try.
Sent from my HTC Liberty using XDA App
+1 on that
For a temporary fix I am using the intruder rom. I miss the sense UI but not being able to stop certain apps from syncing was killing my battery (and annoying).
Stocks, news, Peep (which I have never used), and friendstream (also never used) would still update constantly, even after setting all of these apps to manually update and turning sync off.
Hello all,
I have just gotten my DHD, installed leedroid 2.0.0 and I am discovering the device so please be patient if I ask some stupid questions
I have a few questions on the installed apps since I don't really understands which does what.
I have a "localisations" apps which seems to be a GPS app where you can download paying "navigation" but free maps....what's the difference ?
Secondly there is the google map app which does the same, but I assume one ust be "online" to get the maps, when I'm roaming in Europe I don't want to have massive data roaming charges so this is out, right ?
Then what are the HTC HUB and HTC LIKES ? anything vital or can they be unistalled ?
What does friend stream do that the FB app doesn't ?
I have a "news" tabs and a "news and weather" and of course a "weather", isn't that a bit overkill ?
HTC sync is ONLY to sync data with Outlook/ OE ? (I don't use outlook)
That's enough to start with, thanks a lot in advance for the help
Personally I've been using the Locations app because I can preload the maps into the phone before actual use. This way I won't waste battery and data on the go.
Friend Stream actually is a centralized location for Facebook, Twitter etc. feeds. So it allows you a quick overview of your social updates. The Facebook app is more specific.
Removed the rest of the stuff (HTC Likes, Hub, Weather, News etc.) so I can't comment.
The Outlook thing is actually just one of the featuers of Sync. You can actually sync your contacts, documents, videos, pictures, music, etc. as well.
Hi. Has this been going on for others? Timescape was working fine until today and I was getting status updates from my contacts. But now I am only getting status updates from some of my contacts and not from ones I used to be getting from too even though in the Facebook for Android app, I can see the status updates. Does anyone know what is causing this? And what fix there would be for this? I've reset my phone, cleared the cache, removed data, etc. and it is still happening.
I'm running stock GB 2.3, rooted.
As a side note, does Timescape allow you to update from Facebook only a certain list?
Thanks.
I installed CM9 on my Defy+ because I had data abuse from Motorola Apps on original ROM. Now I've installed Onavo data counter and I found out that during 4 hours of using Internet connection Motorola apps used 4 MB. In this time I receive and send a few emails and send a few messages with Whatsapp but these apps have separated counter.
Does anyone know how block motorola apps?
Are you sure that is the motorola apps that are using your mobile data? remember that google also keep collecting data from your device, things like localization and syncing with google acc.
I know that but google maps, google services, Android OS, synchronization, google play, gmail they all have own meter

Try to delete a VPN
same issue here (on my droid pro). what is motorola apps???
I use a firewall to block unwanted data usage in order to not waste any unnecessary mb. I started using Droidwall, and now am using Android Firewall, both of them are equally good, I'm just testing Android Firewall for the moment.
I block everything I do not want using data (including Kernel, due to having had Android OS use up to 143 mb once), and even games (blocks ads ), just don't block Google Play Services, or else background data won't function properly and apps like Whatsapp, for instance, won't receive messages until you open the app, or any other app that you want using a network connection.
Yep just run one of the mentioned firewall.
I also suggest to disable some of these useless apps, you can do it with Bloat Freezer for example.
