I am on the 2.1 8105 o2 build...I am plannin on upgradin to 2.2 but I am a bit unsure about which method to adopt..
I had a few Qs
which is the faster and less cumbersome method...going from 2.1 to djsteve 1.1 and then all the way to 1.4.6.??
or is it shorter and possible to go to the official 2.2 and then go to 1.4.6??
I am a novice in flashing so would prefer the simplest method...
thanks for any help..

Alright, so I updated my phone with the official 2.1 android update from sprint, then rooted it. I hate 2.1 and my phone runs like complete crap. I even tried to re-flash it after doing a hard reset, that didn't help. I am very new to android phones, but learn fast. I downloaded the initial release ruu from sprint which has android 1.5 but can't simply run that to flash back to a 1.5 rom because it gives some type of error about not being able to update the boot loader or something. I gather that I need to get the original 1.5 rom in .zip form somewhere and then flash that rom using the menu at the phones boot up to get back to a 1.5 rom. Can someone tell me what I need to download, and the steps to do so? Also is there any 1.5 roms that are nearly identical to sprints stock rom but that have tethering enabled? Thanks guys!!
- Mike
I would like to know this also as 2.1 runs like garbage I think and 1.5 at least worked for me and wasnt so buggy. I am not happy wih 2.1 at all. Also I really want my tethering back.
Pick a 1.5 ROM like Pancake or Gumbo and install it. The list of 1.5 ROMS can be found in the XDA Hero CDMA Wiki
Which Rom is closest to stock? Know where I could find stock 1.5?
Im going to say Gumbo ROM 1.5c FULL but I could be wrong. I am going to wait and see what some more experienced member/s have to say. For now I deal with this rooted 2.1.
You can not go back to 1.5 after running the 2.1 RUU. The hboot in 2.1 has a higher version and you can not downgrade below the version currently on your phone. The only thing to do is install a 1.5 ROM..
Just look in the Wiki, there are several 1.5 ROMs.
Before I went to 2.1 ROM's I used Gumbo 1.5c Bare. FAST as the wind...but there is the FULL version also, that has all the sprint apps.
Both here.....Flash them and see which you like better.

I am currently running Fresh 2.1.1 and it is amazing, everything works and its FAST! You might want to try this one also:

Good luck.
Hi,
Can I go ahead and flash the Android 2.2 OS from android developers website? Will it work?
Regards,
Mithun.
NOT DEVELOPMENT RELATED MOVED TO GENERAL
we have three 2.2 roms:
fyodor 0.7.2c
SP-froyo 2.0
SPQRom 0.4.1
all are very stable but BE AWARE: CAMERA DOESN'T WORK and there are other little bugs that are being fixed...
I did this earlier this week using the manual root method, RA-recovery & fyodor ROM. As long as you read the instructions several times before starting and have all the tools to hand, fairly straightforward process.
BUT there are some annoying niggles that may make you delay. For me, not having handsfree Bluetooth means that I can't use the 2.2 ROM as I spend a lot of time in the car. Similarily, CoPilot doesn't work on 2.2 an ALK have yet to release a patch.
IMHO the 2.2 ROM is miles better on Tattoo than 1.6 (faster, neater, smaller) but does have some outstanding issues that you need to consider before flashing.

Thanks so much for your quick reply, Albert & Maxi.... Well, my phone is just 2 weeks old. I had played around a lot with my HTC elf, which was out of warranty. I am just concerned weather it will void my tattoo's warranty. Also, could you please brief me what else doesn't work apart from the camera. I called up HTC support today and they were not really helpful in tellin me about the update for my tattoo.
According to you both, which is better, 2.1 or 2.2?
Regards,
Mithun.

I haven't used any 2.1 ROM's so can't comment but when you have rooted & RA-recovery on your phone, you can flash a ROM in a matter of minutes so you can quickly decide which version / variant is best for you.

the last version of copilot works on froyo
anyway in my opinion it's ok to choose between 1.6 or 2.2 but 2.1 is a NONSENSE 'cause camera doesn't work in 2.1 and 2.2 is faster and faster...you can install apps to sd without any patch...

Bro, I also wanted to know whether it will void the warranty since my phone is just 2 weeks old and I have a years warranty. Is there any way I can restore my phone to the original state after flashing a custom rom? I had done that on my elf before.... Where can I download stock rom for my tattoo?
Regards,
Mithun.

Yup. Just do a backup.
As for warranty, HTC might try to use that as an excuse not to fix the phone. But unless the problem is related to the rom...
Only some specific rom (the ones that do overclocking and such), are actually susceptible of causing hardware problems)
And of course, switch back to stock rom, to make sure the issue you might have is not rom related.

Thanks so much, Eowyn!!!
Hi,
I have been playing around with my Telstra Wildfire quite a bit and now I'd like to revert it back to 100% stock (I might need to bring it in for warranty if the stock ROM doesn't fix the problems).
Unfortunately, I never ran a backup. I remember that it came with 2.1 upgrade 1 and I'm not sure what radio or boot.
Would this do the trick? Or would i end up stuck with an unrootable 2.2? RUU_Buzz_Telstra_WWE_1.21.841.3_Radio_13.45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_138758_signed.exe
If that's not good enough, if there anybody who have a backup of the stock ROM and would be so kind to email it to me?
Thanks a lot!!

thanks for your reply. http: // shipped-roms. com/shipped/Buzz/ is where I found:
RUU_Buzz_Telstra_WWE_1.21.841.3_Radio_13.45.55.24_ 3.35.15.31_release_138758_signed.exe
All I want to know is whether that's the original 2.1 upgrade 1 ROM that Telstra has been using on their Wildfires. I want to make sure that it's NOT the 2.2 telstra Froyo ROM that's been going around.
Thanks again!
All Froyo updates start their version with 2.xx. So, 1.21.841.3 is the 2.1 Eclair RUU.
Hi guys,
bit of a noob here, have came from iphone to android, was quite clued up on iOS dev but not a clue for android, have bought a new dell streak with the stock version of android on.
was just wondering if it would be easier to not upgrade to the dell 2.2 android before rooting. is that correct??
also which is the best root software for the streak.
Thanks for any advice,
Sanders
Considering that the carrier branded and unlocked Streaks upgraded to 2.2.2 some time ago, it's very likely you already have 2.2.2 on the Streak, unless you got one used that still had 1.6 or 2.2 on it. It's worthwhile to do a ROM update if you have anything other than 2.2.2 on the Streak already.
Best way to root is the manual way, since it always works when one-click root solutions can fail. You can find out how to root by reading the links in the reference stickied at the top of the forum.
cheers for the info,
yer it is running 1.6 but unused, just confriming the easiest way around rooting, will have a look at that thread.
thanks again,
Hello there guys,
I am a newbie android user and i just got HTC Magic at my hands. I had HTC Click before and had rooted & flashed it to CM7 but it was clear and straight with auto-root one click and flashing rom. Now i need help 'cause I have no idea what to do to speed up my HTC magic 'cause it's waaaaay too slow!
Here are it's specs and my questions:
HTC Magic 32B (from Germany, The Vodafone one)
Android Version: 2.2.1 official
Baseband Version 65.50SJ.20.17U_2.22.28.25
ALSO
Sapphire PVT 32B Ship S-On G
Hboot-1.33.0013 (SAPP10000)
CPLD-10
RADIO - 2.22.28.25
if needed!
These are things I know about my phone.
So my questions are:
1) Is there a way to root & flash a custom rom so i can speed up my cell without the danger of bricking it (i read some things over the forum for such problems in my version 32B)
2) Is the cracked rom (CM for example) version faster than the official one?
3) If it's not safe can i downgrade to 1.6 official rom so it's faster?
Considering i'm a new user please answer accordingly.
Thanks in advance for your time and your answers,
M.
Use superoneclick or gingerbreak to root.
Flash a custom recovery with rom manager.
Cm dropped support and the last official version for the magic is 6.1. It slows down over time.
Ezgingerbread is the fastest gb rom for d/s.
Dreamteam froyo is a quite fast froyo rom. I recommend it over cm (and I am not biased at all /sarcasm). I am currently running a web site on it with great uptime and good performance.

i did rooted my cell with gingerbreak and did the 'recovery AMON-RA' thing
but now how can i flash a rom? is there any tut on how to flash SPLs and
Radios and ROMs? 'cause i'm a bit dizzy with all these new infos over here
Thanks again,
M.
btw i want this ROM to be installed:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932118
You are already on the latest radio/spl so flashing that is a bad idea
To flash a rom just reboot into recovery and follow the menu to flash it.
Why Ginger yoshi? If you want fast, any gingerbread is a bad idea
i've put this ROM now and it's quite fast but not enough as i wanted. no serious improvement and it's lack of android's 'navigation' :/
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=882356
i think i'm gonna try this one, what do you think of?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576893
If you want fast, gingerbread and sense ate the wrong way to go.
Ezgingerbread is the best gb rom we have.
Try my dreamteam froyo rom (should be in my sig). Its quite fast.
I finally flashed the DreamTeam froyo ROM and it's WAY faster than the previous. I love this ROM, thanks a lot for your help m8!
