I just got my streak today and its been happening to me, mostly wen its in my pocket or wen I bang it on something... The streak has a little sensor on the back, wen the cover is taken off the power is disconnected.. If u bend the fone a bit it will vibrate and if u do if more it will restart, same if u bang it.. So wat im trying to say is, I think this sensor is the reason y it restarts... The gotta be a way to disable it

This feature is disabled with dj Steves 1.46

Check out Streaksmart, they have described a way to physically disable that switch (or you can change to Steve's ROM as noted in the post above). But it happened to me, too, and I am pretty sure it wasn't cover related since the phone was lying flat on it's back at the time. So you might consider a rogue app you recently installed.

you guys need to put a shim in between the battery and battery cover I had same problem look on some forms and its a design flaw there is a small gap that lets the battery move just a little and makes the phone shut down....

cut a piece of a bicycle playing card and slide it between you battery and the cover before you place it on and see if this works for you guys

xperia gets hot 45°C...barebecue on my hand!

hey,
I read on here that some of us had pb about hot temperature while using the phone.
mine goes up to 45°C(yes I checked with BATTI 2.4) any software solution?
it gets hot when I call, surfing the web on opera, mp3 player...and even when it's charging.
I think it comes from the battery but maybe someone noticed something else?
I think it's normal when you use wi-fi or multitask.
normal ? i don't think its normal haha 45c how you can say its normal for a telephone?.. explaine me
mine only get hot when I use gps
also temp measure programs don't measure
what temp your device is on the surface it's
the batt temp
and batts get hot when much juice is drawn
it's weird because I had many HTC before and it got hot but never like that! maybe it's normal to get hot but so much seems bad to me!
my thesis is that the pb comes from the battery, would it be possible? by replacing by a new one, it would change for sure?
It's normal, its just that the battery cover of the x1 is from metal so it feels much hotter then an plastic battery cover of other htc phones
smart answer, didn't think about it.
I'll check on my old htc3600, finally htc is not so idiot by making cells 100%plastic.
I'm thinking, if you're right, is this pb of battery is known on the Iphone 1generation?(since the xperia and iphone have metal cover)

don't feel anything... I use the plastic case
which plastic case?
dd you take off the metal cover from the cell?
I suspect he mean a case

wowow I just realized about the case: even if you use a plastic case/cover, the phone gets hot everywhere(back ANDFRONT)! so the case doesn't change a lot???
my gets hot when plugged to car charger, less hot when using wi-fi
Dont use batti that causes overheating problem.I was using batti and i got same problem as you.Use wm battery.Cheers.
I have this experience for example with skype. Launch skype (even without WIFI), pres 'power off' and the display will go down .. but skype will still be active and it will even send some data, all the time.
In few minutes you can warm your hands with Xperia.
Anyway it does not seem to harm the battery, it just drains it.

you r right, it's worth it to try.
which case do you have?
you should try this
look in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=514647 it should help with your overheat problem, i installed it myself and had a drop in temperature very quickly.

Phone power shuts off when tapped or bumped.

I just noticed a moment ago that when I tap my phone hard enough it turns off. For example sliding the kb open or setting it down on a table hard enough. I have to be real gentle with it now. And I have never been very rough with it its in great condition. I dropped it once on carpet a few months ago. But that's it. I have 2 batteries and I switch them out every other day. Could that have something to do with it? I really do not want to goto the sprint store and have the look at it because ill have to flash back to stock and deal with their lines and annoying staff. Anyone know what I can do to fix this issue?

Is it possible that you thumped it hard enough to knock it unconscious? Just kidding, sounds like you have a short somewhere.

screw that. flash it back to stock and take it in. i wouldnt be able to deal with that.
^^ I agree
However, take a look at your battery contacts. One of my 3 is noticeably bent "differently" but not necessarily broken than the other 2 (although it's NEVER lost contact even in a fall). Maybe it's not maintaining the tension it needs to keep the connection.

Happens to me when I close the keyboard too hard so I put a piece of thin cardboard between the cover and battery to secure it even more and no more problem.

doesnt paper heat up the battery more? and i think the OP should place a claim on the phone (you should too). you people paid a lot for your phone and it should work (without putting cardboard)

your right I did pay alot for this phone and it should work properly without ghetto rigging it. It actually stopped for now idk what did it, I tried a number of things including pressing the battery in harder and that may of solved it, but I bet it does it again one day. plus I wouldnt mind having a brand new one if thats what they would do to fix it lol
That happened to me a couple times, but it was the extended batteries and thus generic cover that doesn't fit well to begin with.

Then don't cover the whole battery. Use a small strip runnin diagionaly and fasten it to back cover is it don't move around when u drop your phone again.
Try a little peice of paper in between the batt and the wall of batt hole.
Epoxy your battery in place.
Or u can stop abusing your phone.
Tell your phone your sorry..

Not anymore than sitting on my hip. Paper is an insulator so actually would help in Florida sun. But my issue is a $21 extended battery and extended back, not stock. So a small piece of cardboard helps to keep it really tight. Also probably because I have dropped my phone a few times.

LMAO!!!! Nice...think I will download a flowers jpg for my phone now.
My first epic did this. It's a manufacturing problem. I took it back and sprint replaced it. (I returned it the day after I bought it, though).
I have had this happen to me and all I did was flash a different rom. It seemed to be a had flash or the rom I was using. That is assuming you are rooted and running a custom rom. Give it a try. Flash something else and see if the problem goes away. Mine did.
I was on my way into the sprint store as I was restoring a different rom and after restoring i could not reproduce the power down when bumping or sliding keyboard. That's how I figured out it had to be the rom. I have not had it happen since, that was 5 months ago.
desire s turns off
Ive had my desire s for less than 2 months and ive had to leave it back for this reason. The slightest of taps to the bottom right corner and off it goes.
Estimated return time from the car phone warehouse is 1 month. whahahahah....
Mine does the same thing, bougt mine off ebay, esy fix I just took a very small piece of electrical tape, made it so its sticky on both sides and stuc it behind the battery

I had this problem also. Mine was one of the three contacta on the phone broke. The brass contacts that touch the battery.

Same here! With the stock battery it works fine, but with the extended to hard of a jolt will reset it.

Is my Streak a Dead Streak Walking

Trying to be funny but seriously the last couple days my streak will reboot for no reason shut down if bumped right. Im running 351 bb 2.2 stock and using launcherpro and sometimes Stage. Been working fine for a few weeks. So logically battery cover but I checked it took battery sim sd card out and reseeted everything. I have an otterbox commuter on it but took it off today thinking overheating. It takes forever to boot up when it does. Swapped batteries as well. No new programs downloaded. Kind of worried.

Mines has been randomly rebooting as well. It never does when I carry it in my belt case, but it does when I just carry it in its microfiber slip case and put it in my pants pocket.
Is it due to its battery cover being bumped or is it due to the whole device being shaken when it's inside my pants pocket?
Not really sure but this isn't good.
the bump reboot is a stock rom problem. i had the same thing when i bought my streak. also when u bend the unit it would vibrate and then after a while reboot aswel. ever since ive been on streakdroid or simplestreak, the random reboots are gone. i would only get a random reboot if i hit it really hard by accident, but even wen i drop it on the floor it doesnt reboot.. well thats my experience anyway
Well ive been on Dj Steves roms and loved 1.6.1 and 1.9.1 and just went back to stock to have things working normal again. I will go back to DJS and hopefully that works. Battery cover seems fins. Thanks for the advice.

My device is actually on Simple Streak 1.2. So, I suppose it's a battery cover issue.

Wierd shutdowns

My phone shuts down when i open the battery cover, it started happening a few days ago. Sometimes it turns off without opening the battery cover, but it is probably related to the problem, since it started occuring approximately at the same time. The battery doesn't move when i open the battery cover, It doesn't happen every time i open the battery cover, but it is really anoying when it happens, especially when it shuts down by itself.
EDIT: while writing this i opened and closed the back a few times, phone turned off two times
Try this.
keep Ur phone screen downward. Maintaining this scrictly open the battery cover. See if the phn is off..
Do several times. & tell me d results.

Think this is because the screw of the back plastic, i.e. the screw which holds back the battery to the casing, check it or the wire has been broken, and in contact because of other grippers or wires from welding.
Check it out.
OR just it may be a sensor problem.
Dont know, can you upload pictures or video?
Try putting a thick piece of rolled up paper between the battery and back cover

It's probably the sensor, i reflashed back to 2.2 jps and there was no problem so far. So far. There is nothing wierd about the hardware of the phone, so pics and vid are useless, i compared mine with friends G3 and they look identical under the hood, probably the sensors got a bit messed up. We will see if the problem presists, but i doubt it will.
EDIT: The phone was on my desk for like 20 mins, i didn't even touch it, it turned it self off with no sign or reason or warning. I will flash stock firmware and go to SamFu*kingSuck service, i hate this phone, it always dies on me when i need it. I will never ever buy a product from samsuck again. My next phone will be HTC and i will try to get it as soon as possible. Thank you all for making this piece of junk phone better and better every day for us that got screwed by samsuck. Really, a big thanks to all developers that even bother with this junk. Sry for ranting BTW

u8800 is a very sturdy phone :D

I dropped my phone to ****ty water where it stayed for 5 hours... after that it went to police station where it was 2 days wet in a minigrip bag. After that i washed my phone, blowed it dry with hair dryer. For few weeks my vibration did not work but starded working. Second problem was GPS that did not work. But today it started working. Just wanted to share this info with you. Great phone.
Lucky man my luck it would all be stuff
I can't really agree:
I got in a really terrible rain with my X5 in my trouser pocket, I got soaked. Back in the car I took the battery out of the phone and dried it as best as I could.
At home I removed the SIM card and the SD card and let the phone dry for a week.
It's been two weeks now, the phone starts up, but you can't slide the unlock slider all the way to the right - it looks like the touchscreen isn't working in the rightmost 1 or 1,5 cm of the screen.
Also you can still see a few faint stains under the touchscreen.
I hope I will not have to test it but it is nice to know that a few drops will not harm it..
By the way (excuse me if I'm hijacking the thread) are those screen protectors that use a liquid "solution" in order to apply safe (enter the phone throught the speaker mic etc)?
