Dropped Streak...gone over to the dark side - Streak 5 General

so yea, i dropped my streak a little while back and the glass and lcd completely decimated its self, i thought id be p1ssed but tbh i was sort of expecting it to happen on account of how big the streak is.
as soon as i dropped it i felt a weight life of my shoulders, like i was free. i could sit down without being completely aware of where my streak was and was it under any physical stress.
i loved my streak but im glad its dead, i dont have to treat it like a new born baby now. in my mind its a fantastic device but to use it as a every day device for me just isnt feasible. so ive now got a iphone 4 and im loving it, its strong, fits in my pocket and is super fast.
some time down the line i hope parts become available for the streak so i can fix the poor thing, but right now ive got a fantastic phone which suits me and ive still got my x10 for android coding/messing about. its the best of both worlds.
goodbye my lovely streak, you big beautiful [email protected]

Lol... what apple store do you work for?.. did you get paid for this post?

I really do like the iphone4s display. Its crisp and clean. but i've had all the iphones. And ive broke every one ive had. I guess i am hard on my phones. I had my first iphone fixed 4 times!!!
But i never use cases 24/7. They are a lifesaver but they add to much bulk. If i am going out at night i rock my phones casesless. at work i try to keep a case on my phone because its usually in a harsh enviroment. Funny enough all my phones have broken when i never had a case on it.

my wive dropped it straightly face down from our bed, and it survived without any scratch .
only the plastic cover of the earpiece/frontcamera went slightly misaligned because the led had shifted position, i just have to peel the cover entirely, put the led back in its position and push back the cover to align with the overall body.
now i know this thing (the front plastic cover) is only being held by DOUBLETAPE, no screw whatsoever. but a good doubletape, fortunately, it never show any sign of the glue losing strengths afterward

You wouldn't believe how may phone calls these guys get for replacing iphone and ipod battery's now the 2nd and 3rd generation are getting old, there's a waiting list

Those flash videos sure look wonderful on that Iphone 4 retina screen, Swype runs like a dream, and I love all those widgets they have that speed up switching functions. And you can tweak your Iphone any way Steve wants you to -- imagine you can even put additional apps on your home screens! Isn't that exciting, especially on that gigantic 3.5" monster screen. Perhaps one day Steve will even announce Iphone 5, the revolutionary device that makes calls without a case.

Glad to Hear that Flumps Missed your input on the forum

Got a streak on the way. Today my otterbox defender case came in the mail i was a little taken back by the size of the case and the size of the phone itself, im in canada so i never got to touch one but im starting to have second thoughts re the size of it. Does anyone actually use the belt clip? Its massive lol. I think through the winter having large pockets migt be ok but summer might be a challenge.
Still cant wait for it to show up and load dj steves right away!!! ill be switching from a nexus one.

Onnia 7 QC issues?

(why is there no omnia 7 forum?)
I've just been told by t-mobile that the Omnia 7 has QC issues and their deliveries yesterday were returned to their suppliers, anyone know what these might be?
I just picked one up today from Orange!.. I wonder if mine is affected
I heard from vodafone store that their delivery of LG Optimus (Win7) came in and had to be recalled immediately without sale due to a bluetooth issue.
The build quality of the Omnia is one of the things that worries me after reports like this and the issues with the Galaxy series.
Evilanglic, since you now have your hands on one, what are your impressions of the device? Does it seem solid?
Much more solid than I was expecting. I thought it would feel like a light plastic shell like the Samsung Galaxy S.
It really is very nice, no creaks, just a solid slab of deep black technology! Good times.
The back is actually wrapped in metal to the edge of the screen on the sides, it is only the top and bottom of the device which are solid plastic sort-of-cap/ends of the device.
You definitely can't call it a unibody (or can you?..) but as I say... sort of mostly 'wrapped' in a sheet of metal.
It was a close call between the (SAMOLED) Omnia and the (very nice crisp LCD) HTC Mozart, the latter fits the hand better of course due to size, but in the end the slick all black face of the Omnia, adorned with its high contrast SAMOLED screen, just made it worth it despite the low actual PPI!
It would have been nice if the rockers and camera buttons where more metallic or... metal, but instead they are old school black plastic. They work well nonetheless.
The home button is also not the most premium of push switches (compared to iPhone of course) but it is nice to have a soild key!
I would urge you to get both of these devices side by side in the store if you can, but be careful because it took me at least 20 minutes to tell the man which one I wanted to take out lol...
Here are a few pics of the construction as links:
I'm jealous. I have about 2 weeks before WP7 comes out in the US. That and you guys got the better selection of phones (minus Micro SD expansion). I am definitely getting the Focus though. Best choice out of the options available in my opinion.

Yeah. I wont touch a single Samsung phone after the trouble the Vibrant gave my stepmom. It's not fun trying to give tech support to someone 1500 miles away, over the phone with the issues, to a lady with no clue about technology.
EDIT: It reminded me of the time I had to help someone with Windows ME. They didn't know where the "desktop" was! As you can imagine, that was a loooooong phone call.

I've owned a few samsungs in the past (years ago lol), and they didn't give me any trouble. I suppose it was before the major smartphone race of the the last few years though haha.
I only went for the Omnia after holding it myself, there was no way I was going to order a Samsung phone without getting into a store and exploring it - but it was more solid than expected.
Hopefully if there are any support problems in the future, I will just take it to the high street store I got it from and play super dumb and demand a replacement or different phone lol... no harm done.
It seems like a negative thing to say but keep in mind that the phone really is good right now, no problems at all, everything works perfectly so far.
Note for those not in the know: the location based issues of Android Samsungs are not present here! On maps it focuses down with GSM triangulation and GPS pinpoint kicks in a couple of seconds later, super speedy!
Well that's a relief. I suppose the biggest factor that makes it feel so much better is that it's got some metal, right?
Mine's just arrived.
First impressions are very good. It feels very sturdy with no creaks and the metal casing is nice. It feels much more solid than my HTC Blackstone, although I am worried about such a large screen getting damaged!
It's going to have to stay off whilst the sim card registers. Annoying wait ahead!

I was reading conflicting reviews on the Mozart's camera and since I mainly use my mobile for web browsing the extra screen acres sold it for me.
The screen quality is awsome by the way. The device also looks way better in the flesh. It seems it may also have Cornings gorilla glass which would be a welcome addition!

For web browsing I might have thought it possibly more comfortable to use the Mozart's SLCD with RGB pixels (higher subpixel count) if you have good eyes that is lol.
I just cant get over how amazing the 4" SAMOLED looks though...
Because of the all black screen surround, and the nature of the WP7 text laid out to the edge of the screen, it sort of looks like your phone is just one massive display, which a lot of it is... lol
The blacks of the SAMOLED just merge with the black surround! So cool.
Where does the screen end?! lol

I am a happy omnia 7 owner. Just like what the other said, solid construction, beautiful screen.
But the build in app is sub-par (vs lg optimus) and I hope I don't regret choosing a device with 8GB of storage.
Cheers
A user over on MoDaCo forums is reporting that their T-Mobile account manager has told them that the Omnia 7 has been temporarily pulled due to software issues.
I've been waiting on one of these for some time as well, and was told today that their most recent update for handset stocks (issued internally today) did not include a new batch of Omnia 7s. The CSR I spoke to wouldn't be drawn on any specific problems with the handset, except to say that "there have been a few issues" with the ones we've received, and that I would be receiving a call in due course to let me know when mine would be delivered.
Does anyone else know anything about this?
gcaw - apparently they have dispatched Omnia 7's now on T-mobile, so I'd get on the phone ASAP.
risq - many thanks for letting me know about that. As it happens, fifteen hours after I'd made my previous post, I received a call from T-Mobile to let me know that they had stock and confirming delivery later today, but I'm grateful that you informed me of that - and hopefully others will have taken note of that information and successfully placed orders themselves.
I was also pleased to hear from the CSR (the same one I spoke to yesterday) that T-Mobile is extending the same deal to new Omnia 7 owners as it offers to Android buyers, giving 3GB of monthly data usage at no additional cost, rather than the standard 1GB offered under the fair usage policy for other handsets.
Compared with the rather pitiful 500MB offered on O2's contracts, that's a pretty awesome deal.
QC seems top notch!
Posted this on another forum. I'm happy about the build:
Well it had to happen sooner or later, in under a week I've dropped the Omnia 7 while lazily trying to hit snooze just moments ago (typing this message with my phone now lol). Dropped from about table height, and while it was dark, sounded like it landed on a corner first... Picked it up in the dark and dropped it again, this time hitting face flat on the ground.. My floors got a wood finish on top of a normal concrete slab so its pretty solid. Shocked and not feeling so lazy anymore, turned lights on, inspected phone, and absolutely no scratches to be seen...i think this is due to the matte looking polycarbonate plastic they use, plus the color looking like its been amalgamated with the actual plastic, I say this because I remember on my htc touch HD the bezel would scratch/chip so easily because all it was was some cheap paint over plastic/metal? As for glass, i read it's gorilla glass, whether or not it is, I'm glad it isn't scratched... My screen protector can't come soon enough,
Either way, I'm glad to know the Omnia7 is a solid beast . Though in truth, after dropping it, my excitement and feelings of it being a new toy has slightly washed off... My feeling now is 'it might be damaged somewhere'

on my 7th g2

Mod Edit: There are tons of threads regarding the "hindge issue" - SEARCH next time.~TheRomMistress
I have had nothing but bum g2's since the beginning.
the original one i bought had the loosest hinges ever. i couldnt lay on my back and slide my keyboard open while i had it facing me. the screen would just over lap due to the hinges.
i called tmobile and they sent me a replacement.
that replacement had scratches all over the place and came with a dirty glove with the initials AJ on them.
called tmobile,
2nd device had a dent in the speaker grill
called tmobile
3rd device was perfect, but wouldnt even power on no matter what i did
called tmobile
4th device was missing that sd card tray thinggy, it just wasnt there
called tmobile
5th device lasted a week before i noticed that one of the hinges was incredibly loose and the other was tight
called tmobile
6th device liked to turn off on its own and vibrate till i pulled the battery out. i wiped everything via recovery and it still did it. i unrooted and it still did it.
called tmobile
after one month on this 7nth device my hinges are incredibly loose again. and i dont want to follow a how to on how to remedy or fix this. although i understand that wear n tear can be a MOFO i dont think htc should be making devices with questionable hinges or build quality issues.
im calling tmobile now, been on hold for almost 50 minutes and i just dont want the g2 anymore. i love this phone, i really do. but if my hinges r gonna keep fking up on me then its just not worh it.
do u think tmobile will take back my g2 and give me something else? i dont mind paying a little extra if i have to. any advice?
When I worked for them they have an alternative handset replacement program and also gave out new handsets instead of refurbs after a few exchanges. Tell them you want a NEW device sent out as their refurbs suck. Ask for a manager if need be.

Do you even use your keyboard? i dont have the hinge problem but since i dont use the keyboard i use double sidded tape to keep mine shut and for it not to get loose from wear and tear. dont use the industrial kind just the one thats sticky enough to hold it shut but weak enough to come off easy when ever you really need to use the keyboard.
Mod Edit: Removed Quote ~TheRomMistress
1st ones hinges were so loose i couldnt hold the phone upside down with out the screens half completely separating from the keyboard half.
i had the first one for hardly a month, i want a nice clean refurb... not one with a dent in the speaker grill! thats unacceptable.
how can i fix with parts?! after i got a replacement i had to send in the previous device! besides, as a consumer i shouldnt have to fiddle with the oems device just to get it to work.
5th one was not fine. when held upside down, the top half had a larger separation than the bottom half. every time i pull the keyboard open, it had a wobble to it. thats not fine.
the 7nth one is not fine, screen literally opens in my pocket! how is that fine?!
i complain because i dropped my hard earned $ on a device that i really wanted and i expect it to work no matter what for atleast a year. i do all my typing on the physical qwerty, all of it. and if htc didnt think about people like my that prefer a physical qwerty over an on screen qwerty while they were designing their g2. then thats on them.
i guess i just have higher standards.....
tmobile is sending me a mytouch4g, didnt have to pay a dime. not even for express shipping. although its evident that the squeeky wheel always gets the grease, i didnt want to go this route.
i really love the g2, didnt want to swap out for another model. but i know if i accept another g2 the hinges will eventually get weak on me again...

im about 10% onscreen qwerty and 90% physical qwerty
my wife has had her g2 since day one and never ever used the physical qwerty. her hinges feel brand new everytime
This hinge issue is getting out of hand. It has been said many times that there is (practically) no way the hidge should be able to fall on its own if you hold it normally just like everyone else. If you hold the phone from the keyboard side upside down with the screen facing the floor, of course the phone is going to open up. You're forcing the phone to open that way.
I understand that $500 is a lot to shell out on a phone, but, the way I see it you're looking for the perfect device
You're not going to get it.

Have u ever complained to tmobile on there twitter page? I did that twice for similar issues and got the best results that way. I did that recently and not only was I shipped a brand new replacement not a refurb which I'm sure phones 2 through 7 were. I also got credited the original cost for my phone making the new replacement free. Not only that my contract was also reset so that I could get a full upgrade on any new phone coming out. It truly is all about who and how you speak to someone at tmobile. The twitter page has worked twice for me with the same results. The complaints are answered by corporate from twitter.

my wife had her g2 since it was first released. i just slid the keyboard open and held it upside down. the screen didnt close, at all. if you carefully and slowly flip it upside down it shouldnt close at all.
i wasnt looking for the perfect device. im ok with the crappy battery life. im also ok with that yellowish tint on the screen. but when your g2 is actually sliding open in your pocket while u run after your kid....
then theres a problem.

No need to get so personal.
Like I said bro, u can tip my wifes g2 upside down and the screen will not seperate from its position. Her hinges are new. Probably because she uses her on screen qwerty 90% of the time.
I think I've had enough g2's to know that these hinges do loosen up. Which is expected, but not so damn soon.
My friend across the street has a g2. His hinges r solid as hell. But he never ever uses the keyboard because he loves swype. 2 of my classmates have g2's. One is about as loose as mines and the other not so much. And the list of people I know that own g2s go on and on.
These hinges do wear out. there's a few here who do claim to still have perfect hinges n consider themselves power users. Although I havnt seen it with my own eyes I do believe them. I had a friend who had a 1 year old sidekick lx that had a solid screen hinge. No wobble what so ever.
So plz dhkr123, gratz on having such strong n sturdy hinges.
I think what is going on is htc is making phones they know will all be gone in 2 years.. why make a smartphone last forever if is the slowest think on the block before it brakes?. I agree we should demand a quality product but I don't think we should hold our breath for a re-enforced carbon steel hinge.
G2 CM6.1.1 (free)
I think the hinges being "loose" or not is all down to personal preference, I was trying a friends sony ericssion xperia x10 mini pro, and the you have to put a bit of force to slide the keyboard out and i just don't think it feels nice. I like taking my phone out of my pocket with one hand and just being able to slide out the keyboard with my thumb, but thats me on the other hand i'm pretty sure the cable connecting the phone to the screen is fried on mine.. must send it back for repair... at least I like my hinges

I agree. I'm not sure if it can be called a design flaw or what. But my old n97 never ever loosened up on me. Same thing with my n900. My g1 got a bit loose but u could hardly notice it. My gsm pre plus got super loose on me. My mytouch 3g slide actually stayed very firm. It would make sense to design something that can atleast last a year. I understand wear and tear, that's a given and should be expected. But not to the point to where my screen actually wobbles a bit too much when in the closed position.

Saying goodbye to my HD2

There comes a time where one must say goodbye to a dear friend.
Today, I'm saying goodbye to my HD2.
After being on the phone with T-mobile because the digitizer in my HD2 had died. T-Mobile had offered me a chance to get another device. So I said yes wondering what horrible phone they were going to offer me.
They gave me the option of either getting another HD2, or replacing it for free (no new contract) with an LG G2x. That news sat in the pit of my stomach while he explained to me what the LG G2x had over the HD2.
I told the man to make a note on the account and that I was going to call back later to inform them of my decision. So I did a little soul searching by going over to the G2x forums and found that the development community for the G2x is sparse, but I could get CM7 and MIUI.
Here I am just thinking it over, and I finally decide to call to replace the phone. I called and asked for it to be replaced for a G2x...
After I hung up the phone I asked myself what have I done, It was like I had abandoned my best friend, And I felt miserable for the rest of the day.
The next morning I heard the doorbell ring, so I got up and got my package from the UPS man. Opened it up and the G2x wasn't even in a retail package. I felt as though this was an insult to me but I opened up the box that the phone was in and I saw the slab of glass behind the plastic of the package it came in.
The phone was just like the HD2 beside it. Similar in size, weight, and feel. I transferred my SD and sim card over from the HD2 to the G2x and tuned it on. The G2x responded in excitement, Finally awaking from its sleep. I played with the G2x trying to accustom to the smaller screen and the narrow feel of the phone.
When I finished playing with it I turned to my HD2 and went to the task of putting my friend into his box. It felt like as if I was lowering a casket into its grave. I didn't want to bear with the feeling anymore so I closed up the box and tried to forget about it, But I couldn't. And here I am Writing this Quasi-Eulogy thinking to myself, if what I did was the right choice.
For those of you who got up to reading here I thank you, I needed to write this and somehow express my feeling. I loved the HD2 it was my pride and joy, the source of so much happiness and anger at times. Think what you will but the hd2 was a brother to me, and thats how I would like to remember it as.

wdave im with you on this one. My TMOUS HD2 digitizer died also, so i was offer a new HTC HD7, that i received yesturday. That was my only option or keep the phone and fix it myself. My contract ends in 3 months. So i decided to get the HD7 then will sell it and buy another new HD2. In my opinion you did a wrong choice and letting your best friend go and not getting another HD2.

What would make you say that, The G2x in use is much faster in use then the Hd2 when I had CM7 installed.
The build quality isn't HTC solid, but it is better put together then I imagined.
The quasi curved screen at the edge makes for an interesting feel to it. But I do miss the HD2 and being able to flash Sense if I got bored of standard android.
At Wdave, I feel you all the way man. I have moved on to my next device the HTC Sensation and my HD2 still works fine and I could sell it for a nice little profit if I wanted to. But my HD2 is something I hold very close to me. It as you said has giioven me moments of great joy and pain. It was my first smart phone and the whole reason I found XDA. I will never ever ever get rid of my HD2. I will probably will it to a device museum when I die .

Respect
My feelings with you brother! i gave my HD2 to a friend to fix a problem but he couldnt(im out of warranty) now im thinking to get something like the HD2 maybe HD7s or Titan (im without my HD2 over 2 weeks and it feels so empty)
Aww, nice story
you are aware that the HD2 Digitizer had this habbit of popping out?
Bottom right corner of the device i believe, apparrently the glue has a habbit of seperating and that can lead to the phone not applying as much preasure on the cable inside, which can mean it pops out. (one of the reasons the power button can feel less responsive too)
Course it could equally be buggered as happens sometimes
If my HD2 ever died, i think id set it on top of a rocket and have it blown to pieces high in the sky, kind of a fair well bang, anything less would be a bit of a let down to a device thats already a legend.

Thats my belief aswell, except I had to place my HD2 in a cardboard coffin
I'm now looking on ebay and craigslist for an HD2 I just want one again for some reason.
God, I am not quite sure if the phone is really what we are talking about right now. The life is about something totally different. I kinda feel bad for you. Not because your phone has been replaced but because your life values are just sad.
i love mine... i hope they have something much better for tmobile before it dies...

oh come on, thats a bit harsh, most folk are now very reliant on phones for all sorts, when they die it can be a royal pain in the arse, some of us have had the HD2 from the get go, many of us have helped contribute to what it is now, there is a lot of history there, so slap all that together and its quite reasonable to expect people to "like" their HD2, would i actually launch my phone up on a rocket, no, although it might be quite fun for the kids with a education point of view!
I happen to quite like my HD2... Took it to a party on Saturday, showed my friends Mango and Android running on it and they regretted ever buying an Iphone. I had an Iphone to play with for a week, couldn't wait to get back to my HD2. So overall it is a great device and I don't regret having it, nor am I looking to replace it at the moment.
In fact, I have parts for another HD2 that are waiting for the main board. So if any of you with broken digitizers, LCDs or broken anything are replacing their phones and would like to part with one CHEAPLY - PM me, it will be greatly appreciated. Doesn't have to be a whole device, even just the main board will do. If T-Mobile - even better, but not too fussed.
If the phone is under a year old and is fairly good condition ship it back to HTC for warranty. Warranty doesn't necessarily have to be through T-Mobile. Just make sure you restore it to it's original state before sending it and the only cost you'll have will be the shipping cost to HTC somewhere in Texas.
The HD2 was definitely one of the most underappreciated phones of all time. I don't plan to ever give mine up, it's the best phone I've ever had. I'll be getting a Hercules when it comes out but I'll never say goodbye to my baby, lol... More like smell ya later The Hercules/GSII is the only worthy upgrade to this phone that I've seen so far. I had a sensation for a couple of months but it really wasn't much of an upgrade to be honest. Smaller screen, craptastic bluetooth, bad battery life, etc. I ended up selling it & going back to my HD2.

Nexus 4 son of iPhone 4

So I was looking at the LG nexus 4 design and I liked it until I saw the back it looks too much like the iPhone 4/4s, I would be ashamed to pull this out of my pocket infront of a crowd. When people see it they are not going to say "hey thats the new nexus" their going to say "look LG copied the iPhone". So many android fans criticised iPhone for easily breaking but when a nexus phone COPIES it then it becomes okay, talking about being biased.
I mean I'm no head of design for apple but it's just an absolute copy if their where lots of phones with glass backs then it would be just another phone with a glass back, but the only phone that has that and has had that for 2 years is the iPhone I just can't understand. I was watching a video made by verge in google hq about the nexus 10, 7 and they said they choose the design to their liking then they obviously are a fan of the iPhone. I like the nexus 4 design but its been taken by another company I want apple to sue LG this is absolutely wrong companies like samsung and LG don't end up in court for no reason.
Another thing I noticed was the camera was underneath the glass panel but the camera flash light had a black ring around it which looked awful. if your going to copy someone atleast do it properly. It just goes to show that this is LG where talking about. I've heard a saying a person who copies another cannot do it better then the original because they intend to also inherit the same mistakes as the original. I've come to conclusion that all the mistakes to iphones made by shattering easily LG just did. I don't care if LG copies but this is a nexus android flagship, it is this device which will be compared to the iPhone /4s/5. How do you feel about the design I think they should have gone for the same back casing as nexus 10.

I'm all for public appearances, but don't you think that not getting a phone because of what "people will think" when you pull it out of your pocket is a bit... well, selling what the device is a little short?
If you don't like the design, that's one thing, but not buying a phone because of what you think other people will think is convoluted to even type. xD I'd just a soon take the opportunity to tell them, "Heck no this isn't an iThing! It's the Nexus 4 and waaaaay better. Check out what Android can do." If even by your own admission it's a nice design, why let the fact that an iThing has it degrade it? If anything, it's a time to claim look who did it best!

To say the Nexus 4 looks like a iPhone just because of a glass back is insane. It looks NOTHING like the iPhone. It has a pattern on the glass and it is rounded more than that Brick.
So iPhone users should be ashamed to use the pull down notification in the crowd according to your logic?
Sent from my Nexus 7
When I said I didn't like the nexus 4 back design it wasn't because I care what people think that was just an example of what it reminds people of. I know that the nexus 4 does'nt look anything like an iPhone but the back does. Yes I know it has some sort of crystals but it still looks like an iPhone because only the iphone has a glass back, if more then the iPhone had a glass back then it would be okay but only the iPhone has a glass back.
Their was no need for the crystal effect that they used, only because without that it really would look like the back panel of an iPhone. Those crystals or what ever they are called are usually used on girly products handbags, jewellery etc I'm not saying men can't have diamonds and crystals on their clothes and products but they do say diamonds are a girl's best friend and they do attract the female audience more. If a girl sees the phone they will say how pretty because believe me it will attract them its true.
Another thing why hasn't anyone criticised it for being easily shattered like the iPhone or slippery. One more thing the nexus 4 does share a lot in common with the iPhone 4 double sided glass, metal or aluminium around it. I know the nexus is more rounded and it is absolutely identical to the galaxy nexus but the back panel is just wrong. One of the comments said that if anyone thinks the nexus 4 looks like the iPhone 4/4s because of the glass back panel are crazy then you are seriously insane for think it doesn't, why could they have not used polycarbonate or aluminium. Believe me because of this design the nexus 4 will probably be ban in some countries by the ITC, Apple already attempted to ban the nexus but dut to it having a battery hump and camera humo they failed but not this time especially with the use of a micro-sim and sealed battery.

Because we don't have any real REVIEWS and there is no indication that it's any more slippery than other devices? Have you held this device yet?
I don't really know why I am responding... you basically just said you think it's a girly device because of a pattern on the back. Feeling a bit insecure about sequins?

Meaning it wouldn't shatter just as easy? naaaaaaah glass will break period.
Gorilla Glass is just a brand name hell it might even be worse than some other third party and the glass is just efficient for minor scratches by like your nail not drops
I'm not a spokesperson for gg but if you see my other post about how my phone has been used and abused i think you'll understand why I'm pretty confident in it.... granted it doesn't stand much chance against sand and stuff but I'm pretty confident about it not shattering too easily...

You want Apple to sue LG because it also have a phone with glass back? That is pretty ridiculous. Since when am I a consumer who is not allowed to buy any product made of glass unless it has an Apple logo?
Just don't buy the phone if you're ashamed of others seeing you with it. Personally, I do not buy phones to make status or fashion statements, I'm going to be doing more fun stuff on the actual device, it'll probably be in a case anyway.

This entire thread is pretty amusing, especially the OP.
I'm not going to argue for or against it looking like an iPhone or whatever.
However, I was under the impression that Apple picked glass for functional reasons and not purely for aesthetics. I believe it allows wireless signals through more easily than most metals and is tougher than most plastics.
So LG may have chosen it for the same reasons?

Defect - Plastic around the screen cracking with light use.

I was cleaning my 9 months old Galaxy Note today, and noticed micro fine cracks, (THREE OF THEM!!) around the plastic that is surrounding the screen. I never dropped it or handled it rough. It was always in a protective case, with a screen protector.

There is a similar post for the AT&T model.
Since I got the unlocked international version through Amazon, I have no warranty support at all here in U.S. This sucks.
If I had known about this problem, I would have never bought this phone. I am really pissed, and will not buy any Samsung phones designed this way.
I've read that Galaxy S3 also has this problem. I imagine that Note 2 will probably be the same.
3 MICRO cracks after 9 months and you say 'do not buy' Seems totally over the top to me.

Maybe it is acceptable for some people... I would definitely not accept anything like this happen to my gadgets. Heck, there shouldn't be any micro cracks even after 2 years. All my gadgets looks new after years. That's how much I'm careful with these things.

Wow, so offensive here. No I'm not drunk. Yes I know it's just a device, albeit a poor quality one. it's not a scratch, it's a real crack. A plastic piece separated into two or more pieces. Big difference there. Third, I'm not trolling so please stop trolling.
I paid $600 for a high end device, and I expect a certain level of quality with that price tag. I'm not as rich as you guys so I take care of my gadgets and use it for at least two years. I found mine having this crack after 9 months of careful use, most likely developed over time. It's just now that I found this while cleaning it.
This is not an isolated issue as I can easily find people with same issues. Here are some of the "0.001% of people" complaining about the cracks because the bad build quality/material.

I don't understand why you guys are so defensive about this.
I bought my black note in Feb 2012. I just looked at mine with a magnifying glass, no micro cracks in mine. Little rough on one corner where my Macbook Air fell on it, what a heart attack that was. It just ripped my screen protector. I say just throw a tpu cover on it and forget about it.
White historically has issues. The HTC One X had issues with white and I remember the White HTC Vouge for Verizon had a slight cracking issue. I wonder in order to make it white they have to add too much TiO2 in and less plasticizer making it more brittle. I usually try to avoid white phones.
Just checked my black Note, purchased in November 2011. No cracks at all, and I've dropped it a couple of times including one time when I dropped it face down onto a wet concrete floor (the rough type you find outdoors).

You pretty much have to expect rudeness when posting here. Report them or ignore them.
As for the warranty -- are you sure you don't have one? Check with Amazon. I thought anyone selling in the US has to provide the manufacturer warranty.
Of course they might not cover cracks anyway since it would be hard to prove it wasnt dropped.

I dropped my Note couple of times and i've got at least 20 scratches and guess what?
I don't give a f**k
I buyed a damn phone, he didn't buy me for me to be his slave
Im also proud of the little dents and scratches as long as I caused them and I can get the phone up and working again.
But i can never defend the build quality which is less than satisfactory.
Well, Samsung uses "cheap plastic" but then again look at Apple - most expensive anodized aluminum and 1/3 of iphones 5 came scratched out of box.
What i'm trying to say... im just like you, i treat my gadgets like eggs, but we're talking about things we use all day every day - they will get damaged no matter how you try so its best to get over it. Anyway i think your case is not very common.
about this micro cracking, don't wast your time to send your phone to sammy, i try it ( because me too i don't think sutch craking are normale on a 600€ phone ) and sammy don't take that in warenty, they sad it my fault... crap plastic and crap warenty... it was clear that sammy don't wan't to eard about that lol
I got some cracks and spots on my note to but it is better to have crack in ur phone then have phone in ur crack.
My name is luxor and i am a flash-o-holic and xda is my pusherman.
I checked mine too. I got it in August 2012. Im pretty careful with it also. Got a case for it too. I found one of those cracks on the right side. To be honest..its covered with my case..and its not on my screen...Its not a big deal.
