Betterest Battery Life! - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Try this out guys and post your results. Install the Advanced Configuration Tool in WM and enable all sd/nand Power Management features (all disabled by default I think) and then run your Android. I did this and after 24 hours moderate use I still have 40% battery left! GPS, WiFi, Sync and data all enabled and I average 3-5 mA in standby using mdeejay's 6.1 kernel and JDMS 1.5!
EDIT - I meant enable not disable sorry.
EDIT 2 - Not sure about hastarin's kernel as I was having battery drain issue with it. He is aware of it and is working to correct it though.

I'm trying it right now. I have everything under Power Management from disabled to enabled. Soft reset now and boot to Android. I will post my test results tomorrow.

Just enable all the power management options, nand is in there somewhere.

Hi, may be you could remind us your WinMo/Android configuration, this might be some good informations.

ok either its late or i've become blind but where on earth is the download link on the touchexperience website? because the direct download link brings up an error
edit: ok scratch that, found it.. google is our friend

Anyone got test results yet? (Current widget stats for standby & low/med/heavy usage would be great!)

I've downloaded and installed it, but everything already enabled. So no option for me. I have about 5mA standby anyway
But I've recognized that A-GPS was disabled?! Could you guys please have a look if it is the same for you?

MDJ 2,4 clean still 5 ma on stand by ( I don't belive in miracles )

Improve Battery life with automated tasking!

I have struggled with horrible battery life. I tried everything from roms, radios, setcpu, registry tweaks, all builds on this site and still couldnt pull much more out of my battery.
I ran across an app yesterday while digging through some articles looking for a battery miracle and found an app on the market called tasker. It is an automated tasking app that allows you to set different variations for anything you could imagine on your phone.
I have only scratched the surface with what it can do. The link below has a simple GPS setup to get started.
It enables you to turn on a certain function (WIFI, GPS, Bluetooth) when you open an app and then allows you to close it once the app closes. No more forgetting to use the power control widget!
Hopefully this thread can evolve with suggestions and other setups to help save more battery!
Today I was able to get 13 heavy usage hours out of my phone. Before this I was in the neighborhood of 8-10 depending on usage.
Any suggestions or new scenarios appreciated.
Hope this helps!

Does Tasker support turning on/off 3G? I.E. could I set it to turn off 3G ad drop to EDGE when the screen is off, thus saving battery?
yeah.. it works awesome.. so many settings to config up.. endless combinations lol..
good stuff dude!
3g
Fmstrat
Yes, you can set it to turn off everything when you turn the sreen off.
To do this go into tasker
Add new
Click Event
Click Display
Click Display off
Click Done
Click Plus sign in bottom left corner
Tap Net
Tap Mobile Data with the gear beside it
So the same thing but in reverse for Display on!
Along with this you can set a time profile to check turn on data every X minutes to grab your emails
New Time
00:00 to 23:59
repeat every x mins
add task mobile data on
It dues shut off APN completely however, I dont think there is a way, yet, to just shut off 3g. If anyone know a way please add it.
Hope this Help!
Looking for help with a profile
Need some help from the community.
I am trying to set up a profile that will work as follows:
Screen off > Kill all tasks using ATK
If I choose it as an app it loads the app but doesn't kill anything. This would be a great battery saver.
Anyone?
This looks like an excellent app.
Just a quick question (I've only ever installed free apps from the market )
If I pay for this app and validate/register it online using a Desire based android build, but then subsequently load a different build (maybe a nexus based one) will the app still install and work correctly?
Or will the app be seen as being transferred to another phone and refuse to work?
Thanks for any advice
Guys,
Please don't post warez or links to warez (see XDA rules).
Thanks

[Q] Is there an app to disable data for only when needed?

Hi guys,
I'm running a very stable Android build at the moment:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=957652
and everything seems to be working almost flawlessly. I think the last thing I'm really looking for is something like this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478519
It was the first app I always installed when updating my Windows 6.5 roms and basically what it allowed you to do was set parameters for when your data (3G connection) would remain active i.e you could set it to turn off 3G when the screen turned off or set it to only turn on 3G when apps were syncing etc.... Is there anything similar on Android? All I seem to find are apps that allow you to turn 3G on or off manually. Is there anything that can automate the process like WMLonglife did?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

APNdroid. Sense ROMs should have a toggle built in for you to turn on/off the data.
If your rom is based on CM7, you should use the power widget thats in there.

Hi,
Thanks but, as I said in my OP, I was wondering if there is an app that will do it automatically when needed rather than you having to click data on/off every time you want to disconnect. I beleive UltimateJuice does something like this but I don't beleive it is compatible with Gingerbread yet. Any other ideas anyone?
Thanks
maybe timeout 3g? it disables 3g when screen is off. you can manually set time after 3g is disabled.
If you don't have Gingerbread, try DCSwitch app...
I think it's better than APNDroid.

Android Revolution HD 5.x.x Niewbie <10 Posts Place

Hi Folks,
sorry to post in here, but I've less then 10.
Great thanks and detonation to Mike for his rom.
I flashed from Android Revolution HD 5.1.17 up to 5.2.1.
VPN with module tun.ko in 5.1.17 was ok and working.
But can't in install tun.ko in 5.2.1
" insmod: init_module '/system/lib/modules/tun.ko' failed "
As workaround , I flashed instead of original kernel this [KERNEL][June24]-=UNITY V3=-[2.6.35.13] and Android Revolution HD 5.1.17 is fine and doing VPN again.
Looking forward in Mike's Rom
Geetings from Becks Beer Town Bremen

5.2.1 - issues
I enqueue.. less then 10 posts.
Hi everyone.
First, I'd like to thank everyone in the scene for developing great software!
I wanted to share my a few issues i experienced with 5.2.1 and the recommended radio Radio_12.54.60.25_26.09.04.11_M2:
Issues:
Revolution HD 5.2.1
In "settings/Date & time/" I set "Automatic".
If I lost service, the phone changes the time zone automatically to a wrong value (GMT -06:00) instead of GMT -02:00. After the service returned, the time zone remains wrong. I have to enable/disable "Automatic" in settings, to refresh to the correct timezone value.
FYIM:
Currently I'm running a lot "out of service" (heavy weather destroyed some antennas, I guess) other non modified phones are also out of service.
Revolution HD 5.2.1
htc sense "Mail" android default "Battery use" tells me that it requires 20%. I use K-9 and HTC Mail for Exchange ActiveSync. I cannot confirm if it requires more guice than before, perhaps it's just a misleading information from Battery use.
2.3.3 stock rom and Revolution HD 5.1.9 - 5.2.1
After a short phone call htc Dialer uses 40% in "Android Battery use" , only a reboot will fix this issue. Again, I cannot confirm if it requires more guice, perhaps it's also just a misleading information from Battery use. But it's suspicious if a reboot solves it.
Revolution HD 5.1. - 5.2.1
Zooming in camera/video recording is very laggy compared to stock rom.
klquicksall: I need someone who uses tun.ko or cifs to test this kernel ....

Now tun.ko with VPN is working fine.

Well, I guess there aren't many places in 2011 were you could running out of service. Perhaps this issue wasn't discovered by now. Could you post this issue in the main thread, please? Maybe someone else could confirm it might be just an easy fix in the code.

EDIT : Now full wiping to install 5.2.3.

SalsaSense Support Thread

Please post any issues or problems you have with the ROM here and me or someone else will try to help out. Any development related questions or ideas please post in original ROM thread.
I've been using this rom for four days, but the battery in one day became empty
i love the rom, but i need the battery for at least three days.
with the rom elelinux my battery takes three days to be empty.
sorry my bad english, im portuguese
I have the same problem with battery, i find salsasense is the most usable and graphically pleasing rom available, but the battery life for me (with overclock and full brightness) will only last from 7 in the morning till 4 in the afternoon. (9 hours)
Elelinux will go for around 30 hours, so I am back to a cyanogen based rom, i really miss sense :/
Also the browser would crash constantly, whenever trying to view a non-mobile webpage. (when i say crash, i mean it would close and return to the home screen without my say so, not that it would FC)
I have heard a froyo rom would be better, any recommendations? what exactly am I losing by downgrading to 2.2?

By the way, Is there some sort of battery calibrating procedure I should do after the restoration of salsasense? I have been using the app from the market for this as it always seemed to work wonders on my GT540.

My issues with this cool ROM are
1. WhatsApp notification often not working, possibly due to memory issue
2. Disk drive USB connection. Can't get my phone to mount the SD card to my home PC or office Mac.
I have no problem having to charge three times a day with this ROM as long as those two problems are solved
Thanks in advance, and you did a great job with this ROM. Kudos.

You can use any USB mount app from the market, all of them work like a charm...The built-in USB-Mount is a bit buggy.
Also, if anybody wants to have the zoom feature in their camera (notice it doesn't work in the Default Camera App) you can try the Market App "Camera360" it's a pretty cool app

Haven't noticed that issue before.. I will look into it.
I had enjoyed the many features that this GB Sense ROM brought and really like to use this ROM.
However, I also need Text To Speech to work in this ROM as I use audio feedback for my GPS tracking running apps as well as Google Navigation.
It does not look like a simple solution example, replacing a working TTS from another ROM.
Any one any clues? Will we ever have a working TTS for this ROM? Thanks.
i've flashed my g2 touch with salsasense. it works great and fast WITHOUT my simcard in. But as soon as i put my simcard in it, it boots in fine but when i write in my simcode it freezes, and the system forcecloses and it asks for pincode again. Any ideas why this is happening? I've tried 3.0 , 3.5 and 4.0 too but all of them makes this problem. Maybe my flashing method isnt good? (i do it from clockworkmod: wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, and from mounts and storage i format: boot system data and cache, and then i select the zip from sd card) please help i really want to use this nice rom!

I think it was to do with a kernel issue, I can't remember what version of LV I included in this ROM. Try flashing a newer version of LV or one of erasmux's experimental LVx kernels. Found in post 2 of the Las Venturas thread.

2. Screen Brightness @ 35%
3. Data connection on only when i needed it
4. Widgets only on the first panel

CM9 ICS battery life saving's tips with Advanced CMSettings.apk

I know that there are some similar threads in this forum, but no one is strictly related to the CM9 alpha IML74K.
I know as well that this could be part of the CM9 user discussion thread, but I'd like to share the best settings to get a good battery life with our S2 in a clean thread.
So, please:
no trolls, no dumb questions.
Just share your own experience (with a battery screenshot should be better).
Thanks a lot.

With Titanium Backup:
Frozen all live wallpapers, tts services and uninstalled Gtalk and mail.
P.S. Be careful, you need debug usb on when using Titanium Backup
Data on all the day. I turn it off when I go to bed.
Wireless on when I'm home and need to use dropbox or download a big file from my Gmail account.
I'm using CM9 01062012 (I know, there's a new one, but I've reached a very stable daily rom, no FC, no random reboots, fast and smooth).
Modem XXKL1
Now my battery lasts two days.
Well, when my girlfriend tells me stories about her life, it lasts one day and a half.
Important:
I've uninstalled Facebook app which was causing a battery drain. I'm using the mobile web page instead and I've to tell that it is faster.
Other apps installed:
Twitter, Maps, Sygic, Whattsapp, Beatiful widgets (with manual weather update), Xda premium, ...
2012-01-14 Added CyanogenMod Settings Apk v1.0 (from SGS forums)
How to install:
Download it to your internal SD card
Enter into Recovery mode;
Wipe cache;
Advanced settings, wipe dalvik cache;
Flash zip from Sdcard,
Choose CMSettings.zip and flash it.
Reboot system
2011-01-18 Update:
I've been trying few modems and I've found the best one for me: (Vodafone Spain, data on almost all the time, good signal quality, great battery life)
NEKD5 Modem Zip package.
Flash from recovery. Follow cmsettings instructions.
Nice post. Going to try some your suggestions.
I'm sure loads of other xdaers are going find this useful too.
So many posts in the cm9 discussion thread about battery life and how to achieve optimum performance good to have a thread about it.
Big props

I also agree on removing the Facebook app ATM its killing of battery life.
We have similar settings besides using Facebook let me see if things improve tmr

Apparently its a bug. It makes the OS look like its working over time but actually it won't be. Its somewhere in the cm discussion thread if you want to see the posts about it. As far as aware its not fixed yet with any of the builds.

The same here. But I've noticed that using Fastreboot app, it seems to kill/restart stuck apps/processes.
Anyway, rebooting the system before the night helps a lot.
Unless you're not a modern vampire...
Agree with others - excellent thread. There seem to be so many battery challenges with CM9 that a separate thread will lessen clutter in the discussion thread.
I've tried a number of your settings and have also flashed the KL1 modem. I had high hopes for KP4 at first, but it seems to have slipped back into old habits!
Has anyone looked into the FB-app? Why its causing battery problems?

The app and the process are still running after you close them.
I have tried to logout, but it's still there. I think the process keeps going for notifications and photo uploading.
I've tried to kill it, but it comes back after few seconds.
Finally I gave up and used the mobile web page.

But that isn't related to CM9, i had the same issues on gingerbread.
Yes, sir.
I knew it.
But it seems to me that Facebook app is eating more battery on ICS.
Checked my battery info and found out FB app percentage was 15% in 6 hours and I've used it just to read few messages. Then I've logged out.
I could be wrong, but I think it needs an update to control battery drain.
Indeed. I'll bet there are a host of apps that will need subtle tweaks and optimisations for ICS. Another reason not to expect too much from CM9 in terms of performance as yet...although access to kernal sources is obviously the big one!
CM settings
Trying right now CyanogenMod Settings app.
Flashable zip from recovery. The apk goes to /system.
It comes from GTi9000 forum and as I can see, it works perfectly on my S2.
It doesn't have so many options, but few are very important.
Let's have a look...
I'd be very interested on your feedback on this app.
On a different subject, I seem to have my battery back behaving reasonably well again with KP1 modem. In my tons of testing it seems like Nova Launcher - as much as I like it - is a significant contributor to my battery drain issues.
This could be because I have installed a bunch more stuff on Nova than I have with Trebuchet, so my next tactic is to gradually reintroduce some of my favourite widgets to Trebuchet to see if one of them suddenly starts killing my battery.
On the down side it may mean that I can't use one of my widgets for a while but on the plus side it may eliminate Nova as a battery drain meaning that I can go back to using it.
Have you tried FBM for facebook?
Basically the same look as the facebook app. But supposedly a lot cleaner!

As I said before, don't expect a very useful app. It's the 1.0 version, and hopefully it will be a great app. But for now I've tried only some settings in the automatic backlight and modified the notification power widget.
At the moment, that's all we have. Anyway, give it a try, if you'd like.
Screenshots added in the first post.
Anyone able to disable button's backlight? Its still on even though i set it to "0" in the custom settings..
Another thing,is it possible to the haptic feedback tweaks like in cm7 settings?
Back from some modem testings, I'd like to say that NEKD5 has surprised me.
Never loosing data at all, best battery life and no problem with sms and sync.
Here you've got it.

+1
Not working
But I think had the same problem under gingerbread till the devs optimized the kernel...
What can be the cause of not having cm settings working correctly? I only have tabs like these:
Thanks in advance!
