You really should try to get download mode working, as it will make your life MUCH easier, but if all you need download-mode for is flashing some stock images which Odin, you can force your phone into download mode using ADB.
You said you've installed the SDK, so I'll take your word for it. What you need to do is the following:
1. Locate adb.exe. Open windows explorer, point it to C: and search for adb.exe.
2. Connect your phone with USB Debugging enabled. This setting needs to be enabled before you connect it to your PC (Settings/Applications/Development)
3. If this is the first time you are using USB debugging, you might have to wait for drivers to install.
4. Open a command prompt
5. Change the directory to the one where adb was found in step 1.
6. Type "adb devices" and press enter in your command prompt.
7. Verify that adb actually runs and that your device is listed.
8. Type "adb reboot download".
Your phone should now be in download mode and you can flash things trough Odin.
Beware though: Without the 3-button download mode accessible, you will have much fewer options for recovering your phone later should you mess anything up in the flashing process.
Hope this helps.
Try out the home made JIG
As explaind in thread 819551 if you have a soldering iron, you can put together a micro usb jig to force the phone into download mode.
Yuotube has some clips to show you how to make it. Looks simple, though I haven't tried it personally.
So I have bought a L7 and when I have it the phone is not working, the seller doesnt want to take my money back so I need help with this :S!
No appears to do anything when connected to charger
No led
No vibrates
No emergency mode
When I connect it to my PC it recognizes it as QHSUSB_DLOAD, but neither KDZ or LG update program recognize it :S!!
Someone know how to reinstall OS I think is software issue but I dont know how fix it
Thanks!
Try following the instruction I got from a website.
What is 'qhsusb_dolad' ?It is the situation when you can't boot into your phone, recovery mode and any other visible interface. When you connected your phone to the PC, the LED will flash and your PC will show that they were searching for the drivers needed(win7/8) but they couldn't find .......If it is commom for you to remove the battery when the phone did not shutdown completely or when you ran into 'No-Response' , as time goes by ,it will be inevitable that you come across the 'QHSUSB_DLOAD' situation .
But from now on ,you needn't worry about that for I have found a way out.
Tools needed:
Hardware: A PC running XP and higher (win7/8 recommended) and your usb cable
Software : MIflash and MIAssistent and a certain mi update rom(It is a *.exe file---fastboot file)
Steps :
1. Install the first two softwares described above(Run as administrator) in your PC (You need to disable the enforcement of digital signature while on win8 in the advanced startup (press 7 or F7)
2.Boot into fastboot mode(you just need to do with your two buttons and usually you cann't see the interface for your screen just won't show in this situation) before connecting to PC
3.Connect you MI2/S to your PC via the usb cable and the pc will recongnise it in the device manager panel(if not, update its driver in the unknown device---qhsusb_dload)
4.Open the miflash and click fresh to load your phone's serial number
5.Flash the update rom(the self-extracted-to folder) into your phone and reboot .
Explanations:
Miassistant contains the 'qhsusb_dload' driver for any phone and it enables the PC(Miflash) to recongnise your CPU serial which is the key part of updating by wire.
Tips:
Try this with your other phone, I believe it will work ,too.
I'm supposed to just copy/paste the link.. but the protocol won't let me since I still don't have more than 10 posts. I just want to help. Try this

Pull the battery and reboot to download and start odin
press *#7284# on dialpad and select UART as Modem and USB as PDA. press save and reset.
PC&Odin not able to detect phone via USB after flashing custom ROM: tried dif pc too
Hi all,
I've recently flashed this awesome ROM: [GearCM][i9500][4.4.4] Optimized CyanogenMod 11 for Samsung Galaxy S4 [20140912] in my device. ROM works great, very stable, fast performance, however since install, I am not able to detect my phone via USB. Not even ODIN sees the device connected.
Was doing my research before posting, so I will let you know what I've tried which was recommended in other posts and google:
1. Re-installed Samsung USB Drivers: No Go
2. Used different USB Cables (using stock one that came w/ phone right now): No Go
3. Tried different USB Ports: No Go
4. Tried a different PC: No Go
5. Yes, I am testing with my screen unlocked
Anything else I can try? Maybe a setting in my Phone?
Thanks!
Odin should always see your phone in download mode. No rom will change that.
If Odin doesn't detect your phone in download mode then it's either a:
- Driver problem
- Cable/port problem
- Faulty usb port
By the way, the device charges normally when connected to my computer USB.

Good call. Odin is not detecting the phone in download mode-- so I guess we can eliminate problem in the device configuration.
I'm going to try again in another PC and different cables. Maybe my Cable went bad, sucks because it's pretty new? Going to copy Odin to a pen drive so I can try in friends computer. On other PCs I only tried connecting in Windows-- no download mode & odin.
Ok, so I was able to get working back.
I enabled developer options by going in about and clicking the build 7 times. Proceeded to go to Debugging options and selected Android Debugging marked. Reinstalled Drivers again, then it showed PC connected as Media Device on notifications. I clicked there and changed to Camera PTP and then back to MTP.
Now I'm able to see the Device again!
No idea why I was not able to see it in Odin while on download mode, however, I can see it now even when not download mode.
Thread can be closed, thanks!
Hi to everyone, I'm having bad time finding a solution to my problem, but for now nothing helped me.
I've CM 12.1 installed on my Note 3. Since I installed it to my phone, I've never be able to connect my phone to the computer.
When I click on settings-->storage-->usb computer connection, it says:
"USB is now disconnected".
This doesn't allow me to set the usb connection, and so my pc doesn't recognize my phone.
On my pc, it says: "Unknown device, code 43" (looks like it doesn't have drivers).
I've tried everything:
1) different cable, pc, usb connected directly to main board;
2) reboot phone;
3) all the steps about enabling and disabling developer option:
**********************************************************************************************
To see the USB computer connection options:
1. Developer>Disable USB debugging.
2. Reboot.
3. Connect to PC.
4. Settings>Storage, press the overflow button (three dots).
If that does not do it, then:
1. Disable developer options.
2. Reboot.
3. Connect to PC.
4. Settings>Storage, press the overflow button (three dots).
5. Re enable developer options. (About Phone>Build Number-6x)
**********************************************************************************************
But, apparently, nothing changed.
I want to solve this situation becasue I need to install stock firmware now.
Another problem is that I've tryed to install twrp recovery (using flashify), but this made my phone go in recovery bootloop, and so now, It seems I can't access no custom recovery.
If there is no solution to the problem above, at least help me to install the right twrp recovery (if compatible with cyanogen mod 12.1), so I can try a stock firmware flashing using it.
Thanks for answering, hope someone can help me.
Note: I've installed 12.1-20151120-NIGHTLY-hlte version, and, if I search update it says that there are some updates, but I cannot upgrade my system.
Have you installed the drivers on the PC ??
Usb cable is damaged or lack of driver on PC.
