Changing roms - Droid X General

Do I need to wipe my phone before installing a new rom after I have installed a different rom that I dont like? Or can I just use rom manager to install over the top of the old one

Generally no, but fission suggests you sbf before installing theirs.

Cool, thanks!

Welcome!

Most people that release ROMs will have installation instructions on their post or somewhere. I personally SBF just to have a clean slate before I install a new ROM but following their instructions will usually sufice.

+1 I don't SBF unless I have to, as /wipe data and cache cleans stuff up, but I know others go with the sbf route like you do. Respected rooters.

AOSP-Like Gingerbread Rom (D2/DX?)

Is there anything like Fission for the Droid 2 or Droid X available that's based on 2.3.3? AngDroid has disappeared and I haven't heard anything from Team Defuse regarding updates. Makes me regret donating. I'm seeing a few new Gingerbread roms popping up for both the Droid 2 and the Droid X but they've all got Blur included. Any suggestions?

Take a look at some of his roms. You can flash one then flash the d2todx converter found on droidforums. I've been running the broodcomb rom with no issues.

Are they compatible with the GB leak?
Or do I have to .sbf?
Im kinda getting bored of stock GB and wanna try something new with out having to .sbf (lazy lol)
And since there hasn't been any word from the devs here id figured some one can point me in the right direction ...

if you look at the website they have three that are GB based. those three should work when flashed after the gb leak.

EDIT: This PC I have has to go tonight--so i'm going to have to work on this later tonight. Time to go drop off a previously b0rked Windows box. $$ though . I'll get back on this as soon as I get home! Also, I am no dev. I'm simply trying these out and reporting my findings, to help the dev's out hopefully. I might throw a quick tutorial together even though i'm sure someone else will beat me to it
If anything, i'll ask what it would take to get this stuff working on the D2. Sort of be the guinea pig of getting his DX GB ROM's to work on the D2.

This is not working very well at all. The phone has rebooted on me several times. I'm having issues with the market, and Droid 2 Bootstrapper. It seems to reboot when I go to install apps...SBF'ing, then trying again. Maybe clearing data after flashing DXtoD2GB.zip, but before the first boot will help?
You should wipe everything before flashing and mount system just in case
Try that

I'm running brrodcomb on a D2. It works great. The only two things I've notice are apparently the charge light and you cant add shortcuts to the home screen by long pressing on them in the app drawer. you have to go though the home screen.

Gapps in Mytouch with CM7

I'm lookin, and looking and looking, ans as many newbies have to ask something that might sound stupid...
How do I install GAPPS in a mytouch4g that I just flashed with Cyanogen 7.0.2???
I just downloaded it 3 times and everytime I want to flash it, it says bad and aborted. I need this to finish installing things in my phone!!!!
Are you using ROM manager and clockworkmod?
Either you downloaded the wrong gapps version or the one you downloaded is currupt. Just redownload and make sure you're downloading the 20110307 gapps and reflash.
Sent from my HTC Glacier using XDA Premium App
well, there is only one to download from cyanogen site. I know that there are even 4 different versions for cm6 but for cm7 there is only one, and I have downloaded 3 times from there and one from another site. There should be something else.

Yes to both.
Open rom manager. Click download rom. Click Google. Click the newest one. When its done let it restart and install.
If you want to do it manually... it will be on your SD card under
/sdcard/clockworkmod/download/goo-inside.me
To do it manually just flash the zip from recovery.

no, it should be fine from any rom. in terms of perfomance this rom is lightning fast. its barebones so its not got anything slowing it down. but thats at the expences of features, no youtube, spare parts and stuff like that. just really basic. music, gallery, mms, browser and things like that are included. all standard phone apps, but no extras. its a base to build on but works fine as a day to day rom.
just a question, is there google talk? Without it android market doesn't work isn't it?
umm .. wont not having tweaks slow the phone down ..?

Not sure how people are making this work for KF. Tried several times through twrp and it didn't install. Did the manual push, which lead to my device getting bricked. I think I'm gonna stay away for now till the kinks get ironed out unless anyone with a KF can help me successfully install.

Yes. I believe the thread said it was for Gingerbread only, but some ICS folks had luck. I do not think there was any talk of the stock KF firmware, nor was it designed to install correctly on that firmware.
On a side note, it does not really install correctly on anything, must people just thought they heard a difference unless they went through the manual installation process.

Yeah when I read the original thread, it just listed GB ROMs as compatible and so it installed fine on my infuse 4G. Since I already was running voodoo sound on my infuse, couldn't be sure on whether the sound is really all the way different, but some songs and their bass sound a little clearer than before.

Best Custom ROM for Nexus One?

Ok, I am a complete noob to this. I am getting a HTC Nexus One and would like to install a custom ROMon it, preferably CyanogenMod, but I'll see what you guys suggest first.
I need a version that will run fast and still use all (or close to all) the phones features easily and with out a hitch. I am not a programmer and have little patience when it comes to debugging issues.
I am aware of the process to install ROM's and need no introductory to the process, just a point in the right direction in terms of with ROM or CM version runs the fastest on a Nexus One and with as few bugs.

Yes you still able to use gapps, just flash it like you flash the ROM. If you're new to flashing custom ROMs, you might want to do some reading before playing with your phone.

I'm asking a question about that ROM... I created a partion EXT4 with 4ext 1gb large, the rest of the space is for another partition with FAT32.
After i've installed the ROM, i launched the command "a2sd install"; everything went fine but after the installation of some apps, the market said it needed more space, even if there's plenty of space.
