I just ventured into the PDA world with a Sprint Mogul and it's been nothing but disappointing so far. I have been on the phone with Sprint and HTC practically everyday. Can anyone shed any light on these issues??
- Memory, says roughly 49 MB of which over half is taken when no apps are opened.
- Tremendous problems accessing mobile websites, such as my bank, which has a mobile site (I can see it, just can't get into it... well twice I did, then error messages).
- The phone seems to drop my e-mail services for no apparent reason... e-mail works, then all the sudden, asks for my user names and passwords, which when I enter, says it's wrong. Reboot the phone, and back in business.
- It will not download and use many of the sites/programs made for mobile (gmail, AOL instant messaging, youtube - gotta do something sitting in airports).
- Screen useless in sunlight.
- Locks up constantly. If you are performing a function, and something else kicks in (text message, e-mail, phone call, etc) everything locks up, and you have to reboot.
- Locks up constantly. (see above)
- Locks up constantly. (you get the point)
- I have to reboot roughly 6-7 times per day.
- If performing a function, and something else kicks in (phone call, message, etc.)--and it does not lock up completely--the current function is blown out and you have to start over.
- If using Sprint Navigation, basically everything else is is unusable.
- Battery life is somewhat poor. And it appears re-charging in the car is much slower than from AC electric at home.
- Because I do not use Microsoft Outlook (Notes user here), the sync is not possible, since everything Windows Mobile is via Outlook. I found a nifty, free back up program for the phone and back it up to the memory card daily. That works, but I can't "sync."
- The HTC Tilt from AT&T (basically the same as Mogul) has 100 MB of RAM, while the Mogul shows less. Any ideas why?
I love the phone and love the concept, but really feel that it cannot perform as HTC and Sprint say it should. Don't know if it's conflicting software, or RAM, or what, but the overall performance is very substandard for this type of phone.
I only have a few days to return it for a service cancellation or a swap, so not real sure what to do. I am very disappointed, because if it could infact perform, then it would be the answer to my PDA needs. Anyone else having similar issues?

I'm in no way a power user, i just like to **** around with my phone. However i don't experience most of your problems, however i will address some of the issue you presented us with
First of i would suggest running a cooked rom (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385336 this is for dcd 3.0.4 its what i run), however if you don't want to for what ever reason then:
as for your first point (and last point) of memory we all know that it blows on the mogul and the tilt is a newer phone that is why i think that the tilt has more memory
The internet, i personally use pie normally, and i have been able to do banking and such with pie. however pie plus, opera and whenever skyfire comes out (demo video here http://www.skyfire.com/product/index/demo08) are some good alternatives
The email issue i don't know what to tell you, i have two gmail accounts set up on my phone, and one for my school email phone and they always work for me. There is a setting to have your phone remember your password, so maybe that will help
As for things to do in an airport, it is possible to watch youtube vids (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=343397), gmail i already talked about, and if you know the right .coms you will find aim (i use it all the time)
The screen is kinda bad, however with the brightness setting on one of the higher settings i can you my mogul in direct sunlight (true it's kind of a pain but doable)
Your lock up issue, i don't know what to tell you. Mine never locks up. I have my mogul on pretty much twenty for seven and like once or twice a week i reboot, but i don't have a lock up problem.
i found a program that will back up your contacts and such, i haven't used it and can't find the thread about it, but it was on this forum and people really seemed to like it.
sorry that you are having problems with your mogul, i think the mogul is a very good phone and i really like mine. Any issues that you have with your phone is already solved somewhere in this forum (thats how it was for me)

The moguls only has 64MB of RAM, of which some is required for the OS and various other functions. 24MB free is at bootup is a pretty good number for this phone -- and achievable.
Mobile websites don't seem to be a problem for me, maybe it is the version of PIE that you're running, are you using the stock ROM?
E-mail... never had that problem, maybe something is going wrong with your actual servers?
Turn the brightness completely to maximum in sunlight and it will be usable, just not perfect. You need something like SPB Mobile Shell to be able to access the backlight brightness quickly.
Install dcd's 3.0.4 to address the lockup issues.
Use TomTom, iGuidance, Google Maps, or some other navigation. You have to pay for Sprint Navigator monthly anyway.
Get mail2web free pushmail and sync to their online exchange. It's much more convenient that way anyway.
The Mogul is a generation 3 device while the Tilt is a generation 4 device. The comparison is like trying to put the 1993 BMW M3 against the 2008 Mercedes Benz S-Class four door saloon. There is no comparison! You'll have to wait until CDMA carriers have generation 4 or 5 devices and by then GSM providers will probably have generation 5 or 6 devices. Vicious cycle...

best thing you can do is just sit at your pc and read read read, and when your done read some more.
the people in here are truly good people and will help you with your questions and youll get it goin just how you want it. just takes alot of hard work to even half way figure this thing out. to me the mogul is the best phone out there and this site is the best one out there as well.

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF WINDOWS MOBILE!
First things first. Read the upgrade forum for instructions on how to ditch the BS ROM that Sprint ships with your phone. Get on DCD's rom. Its screaming fast and doesnt lock up.
As far as your problems accessing websites and downloading things, 99% of your problems can probably be attributed to internet explorer mobile. Ditch that piece of crap. Get opera. Its worth the money or try to find some place to download the new opera 9.5 beta. There should be some cabs somewhere around here...
As far as your navigation slowing down your phone, again its attributed to Sprints crapware ROM that slows down your phone. Get on DCD's.
Make sure your screen brightness is turned all the way up. It could help you see. WinMo auto adjusts this setting sometimes depending on certain conditions. Always check first.
And as far as syncing? Are you just talking about your contacts? ActiveSync (on XP) and Mobile Device Center (Vista) will sync pics and vids and everything without Outlook installed. Or do what I do and get Outlook and just use it for your contacts. you dont have to use it for email.

Yes! I think this sums it up. If you find a user who maybe complained about their phone as their first posts before coming here, then search their user name in the search feature, you will find they changed their tune almost every time. Are you sure this is correct? Opera mini is at 4.1 beta, right? Opera full for windows is 9.5. Please correct me so I don't look for hours.

opera has two flavors for windows mobile, opera mobile which is at 9.whatever, and opera mini, which is at 4.1 beta.
opera mini is the best browser ive used so far on the mogul. i am a beta tester for skyfire, and while the video,java,flash, and sound support is pretty sweet, it doesnt feel refined for a mobile device like opera mini does. i like putting my web pages in mobile mode and scrolling a page at a time by using the directional pad. if skyfire could do this, then it would be my fulltime browser. until then, ill only use it when i want to see flash,java,video,etc...forgot to mention skyfire eats RAM like a slot machine eats my hard earned wages

kmart is right, two different versions. opera mobile is a software that you have to pay for as opposed to opera mini. opera mini is mostly designed to work on java based handheld phones (like razrs) but it works well on ours. The current version of opera that you download off of their site for windows mobile is 8.65, and its good but its a big piece of software and sometimes can eat a lot of ram for our tiny titans. check out this link, i uploaded a mirror on my site of the beta for you.
@kmart, i just got my skyfire invite two days ago. its definitely cool, but still needs some work. I love how fast it is but to be completely honest, i had no idea before i downloaded it that it used server side rendering. It loads everything i ask it to pretty perfect. I am happy with that for sure.
found one thing skyfire wont load though. speedtest sites. No matter which one, or if i have searched for it or typed it manually, it refuses to load a speedtest site. strange, huh?

agreed, the one thing worse than a stock winmo rom from a carrier is the stock windows operating system on your computer. effing norton....
Also, while MS does push outlook (and this is the first Windows Mobile/Pocket PC I've ever seen that doesn't come with a full version of Outlook on the disc... What's up with that?!), its not the ONLY way to sync.
You could get a free exchange server with mail2web which would sync all your stuff over the air to their server in real-time. It may use data (I'm assuming you have unlimited data) and add a little drain to your battery, but you never have to back anything up manually (constantly in sync) and you can access your information by going to live.mail2web.com from any PC browser, and anything you enter will be pushed immediately to your phone.
Problem with this method is that its web-based, so its not was smooth to use and enter info as a localized application (plus you're relying on having a net connection).
There are some open source and free outlook alternatives, such as EMClient ( http://www.emclient.com/screenshots/ ) which claims it will support direct sync with activsync like outlook does in the new version due out soon.
There's also funambol, which like exchange above, uses over the air sync routines so you don't need wires or even be near your PC. Advantage to this is that its fully customizable and can be synced with almost any desktop client since it uses an open source platform and based on the standard SyncML (from linux) protocols.
They have a free server at my.funambol.com you can use, or you can host your own to do some fancy configuring.
As far as locking up... Look, this is a powerful OS, and I've seen far too many people get into it without knowing what they're doing, and be instantly turned away (later going with something simpler and more spoon-fed, like palm or the iPhone). If you don't want to take the time to learn how to use it to its potential, this device is not for you.
If you do have the patience, you'll wonder why you ever considered anything else. Just for reference: I go for weeks without a reboot required, and my battery can last almost 2 full days of moderate use, using a live over-the-air sync (currently on funambol).
I have to second the notion of those that say to upgrade to DCD's 3.04
Been running that for a week now and it really is much more stable than even the stock roms!
As for the memory issues people need to remember that the memory use is dependent on what the device is doing...
You could have very few apps running in the background yet still wind up with very little memory if you have a lot of graphically intensive programs running. Hell you will eat up as much ram running a small launcher with 10 icons as you will by running any full program!
Every thing you see displayed on your screen eats up program memory.
Every today plug you run does too...
Background services like the GPS chip will eat up ram as well even if you have it shut off!
So you really have to be thrifty with what you have run by default and load things as you need them instead.
I also find it useful to reset the phone once in the morning to start off fresh each day.

can't stress enough how much better your winmo experience will be if you shut it down once in a while. And check your task manager too. you might be running a lot more apps than you are expecting.
Eh, that shouldn't be required.
Unfortunately, Windows Mobile cache files don't always let go of the memory when u need it most, and this effect varies from rom to rom.
DCD and no2chem's are both better at this than the stock rom.
But either way, if you run a tight ship, properly closing apps and running a strategically placed hibernate command every now and then, you should be able to go for weeks without needing a reboot.
Personally, I end up rebooting a couple of times a week, but not on purpose.
Usually because I actually have to turn the phone for a moment to either save battery or going someplace they don't allow phones. I rarely reboot "just because" anymore.
im running quite a bit of software full time on my titan and sometimes that software crashed (read: wisbar and wisbar desktop). this forces me to restart. but you are right, on my base config (running a custom compiled version of DCD's 3.0.4 currently) i never have to really restart. Windows mobile is great, if you just give it some RAM breathing room and dont turn the processor into a puddle of mush inside your phone trying to play crysis... it just doesnt work well...
IF the unit had the 128 ram the unit would avoid most of the problems people have with it...
WM has always been a system that you had to stay on top of the Ram. But that has always been because Ram was so limited...
Using HTC X Button set to close apps on X Press greatly decreases the problem of running low on memory.
Using the DCD ROM and the PPCG Kitchen, I was able to find a setup thats leaves plenty of RAM available.
The key was not to install too many Apps that need to run in the background on boot.
SPB Phone suite took the place of about 4 or 5 different apps so I could leave them out of the ROM.
I have found however that some graphic and data intensive apps work better if you do a reset first...GarminXT comes to mind.
If the unit had 128 Megs of Ram it wouldn't be an issue...
I also save a lot of problems by having an 8Gb SDHD card to install all the apps that don't require installation on the device...
my phone pissess me off from time to time but I am a power user. I use my phone for navigation, mp3, watching tv (slingbox, not that bootleg sprint tv), and your standard features. Everything is installed on my 8 gb memory card to avoid any weakness in memory, yet my phone freezes from time to time, screen doesnt work (rarely) and i get memory low messages when attempting to do certain things. Its the only phone that really fits my needs and i'm kind of overloading it with applications but as a power user, these are the issues I face. Some of your issues...seems like phone may not be setup properly? I would take it to a sprint store, let them look at it. Much easier to deal with someone face to face rather than over the phone.
That was a helluva 1st post. Welcome to the board.
Like others have said, use a custom rom; it's much cleaner. The stock rom out of box probably needs a few things added to make it stable. I've used the stock rom just fine (don't prefer to, but it works).
Sounds to me like a you may be doing a poor job managing your program memory. Simple things like the X-Button, help a lot.

I have g1 with rc30 and jf (i dont remember the version). I installed on my phone netmeter and after 12h of sleeping my g1 downloaded 100mb by it self.
Is there any app that will show which program download so much stuff?
tuen off Auto-Sync in your settings Home>Menu>Settings>Data syncronization>tuen off different things to use less data
I don't thing it's Auto-Sync ... I haven't turned off my G1 for about 2 Weeks now and its alway online and my Netmeter just says something about 100MB ...
so, I think it must be one special program, but which one it is ... sry, don't now ...
I use app that os caled APNdroid
It cuts of GPRS UMTS 3G/2G conection when you press it and do not allow you G1 to go to internet via carrier of you SIM.
You press it agin and it goes back to normal.
It's good becase U can still have SYNC activate3d all the time.
Yeap, it will disconnect you, but when you go back online then it resume downloads .. so this just delay download a bit but not solve the issuse.
Do you have root access, and terminal? Then you can use the 'dh' and 'du' commando to view wich dirs/files are the biggest. maybe you can find a dir that grows larger every hour, then you have to find out wich program uses that dir (or maybe it's just the dirname ).

So I guess the question is... is it unreasonable for your G1 to download about 2.5kb a second? This phone has been very problamatic for users going over seas because they would return home to find a several hundred dollar bill in the mail for roaming data fees Example. I can see how. I must say that I'm a bit curious myself now. I think I'll install the program on my phone to see what I get.
I admit that it does sound like a lot but when you break it down you can't really be too surprised. Especially when you consider that even while your phone is sleeping you could be receiving pings which is 32 bytes each. I'm not sure how many times the G1 sends a ping but I suppose it could add up during 12 hours. Also, it doesn't help if you have IM and other apps in the background. Some of which you don't (or may not) even realize. Latitude is not something that you use very often but if you set it up then it sends updates to Google of your location. If you receive an e-mail in the 12 hours of inactivity. The market is frequently checking for updates to some of the apps that you have stored. Then just a few apps that I personally have installed but not running actively are the JF Updater beta, Locale, Loopt, a RSS app, weatherbug, an android tracking app, IM, caller id app, Earthquake!, just to name a few. Would it be unreasonable for my phone to use 2.5kb a second?
I'll install it myself and let you know tomorrow morning. I'm not in a 3G area right now but I'm curious to see how much I use myself. If it's less then you then I think you might have a problem because I'm a heavy user.
UPDATE
So in just 4 hours with my phone doing absolutely nothing and with Netmeter installed my phone has downloaded exactly 200kb. However this is on an Edge network.
I'm starting to think that you may have a problem. Because obviously at this rate I would have only downloaded 600kb during 12 hours which is no where near what you have experienced. I am not running anything at all in the background except the normal RC33 apps, Craigslist, Where's My Android, Netmeeter, Quick Calender, Missed Call, Weatherbug (all of this came from Task Manager). On Netmeeter it reads that locale is also running but only contributes to .2% of network traffic. 32.8% is from "system_server" and 16.5% is from com.google.android.netmeter.
Bottom line... something is not right with your phone. Perhaps it is downloading an update of some kind?
its end of the day and i have 200 downloaded.
the problem is only with 3g network. when my wifi is turned on it doesnt downloading so much stuff.
I deleted all apps that i installed only netmeter is on the phone now.
we will see
apndroid works changing the apn settings of the phone making it impossible to the phone to establish any new conection through 3g/2g until you let it. So you will be ok with it.

I just had the same problem in the last two days, with RC8-JF. Downloaded 300MB for no apparent reason.
I found out that gapps is constantly downloading a 20MB update from google. It tried to apply it after downloading, fails due to missing otrcerts (because JF has removed it to prevent the update), and retries the whole download.
I suggest you run tcpdump on the phone and see if that's the case with your phone too. If yes, updating to the latest JF version should stop it. Otherwise it's hard to block these downloads. The gapps process does a lot of other things with google's servers so you can't just filter it through iptables.
I had the samme problem, my phone would not stop downloading, every couble of hours it would download about 20mb.
The solution was to update to the new JF 1.43 RC9, I used JF 1.41 RC8 before.
I updated my g1 to rc33 and all is ok
Is there an alternative to 3g watchdog it is definitely not calculating my usage correctly and this could potantially be very costly for me, unfortunately an unlimited data plan in this recession hit country is like everything else way too expensive so i just pay 69 cents a day for 50MB and if i go over then (which i have done before) they charge you a fortune which is why i use 3g watchdog which incidentally used to run fine on my old HD2 but since ive got the GS2 it's been constanly wrong if i send a text to check my balance which ive just done i can see ive used 41.69MB so far today yet 3g watchdog tells me ive only used 20.69 that is over half so imagine i forgot to send a text to get my balance and just keep surfing the net,suddendly i discover all my credit is eaten up, Meteor don't care they aint in the business of warning people who go over their 50MB daily limit which is why it's imperative i have the correct usuage.

I used two software's which are/were precise.
1- Data Counter Widget
2- Traffic Counter
If there are any other precise counter apps out there, please let us know.
Thanks for the recommendations, ive no idea why 3g watchdog is calculating the usage incorrectly as with my old HD2 it was always spot on, anymore recommendations/tips appreciated.
give a look into droidwall also. it'll let you block off apps that you don't want using data over 3g
I have been using 3G watchdog on android for 2 years now, and its always been perfect for me, so long as you set it up correctly (and so long as your not forcing it to close...) it will calculate for you.

the funny thing is it worked perfectly with my HD2 it was always spot on but has not worked properly with the GS2, i have even reset it a few times and cleared the counters but it's still wrong, i have it set to 50MB a day to warn me @ 95% quota and to auto disable 3G via juice defender at 98% quota,when im in the UK i use Giff Gaff and no problems with unlimited data but here i cannot go over 50MB or will be charged a fortune.
I suppose ill try some more recommended apps and see hopw i go from there.
ZDBox is a good app and also breaks down usage per app so you can quickly figure out any rogue apps that are using too much data.
Does your wireless provder offer an app or at least a way to check your usage through the web? My carrier does which helps get an idea of where my usage is and could help if yours does too

ZDBox is a good app and also breaks down usage per app so you can quickly figure out any rogue apps that are using too much data.
Does your wireless provder offer an app or at least a way to check your usage through the web? My carrier does which helps get an idea of where my usage is and could help if yours does too

Yeah Meteor has an app but it only lets you see how many calls and texts you've made nothing for data unfortunately , i just send a text to 50104 with "balance data" and it sends me a text back with my balance,sometimes straight away other times it takes up to an hour

Have you ever had a problem with it keeping the phone awake when screen is off? Not totally sure its the culprit as uninstalled/froze a lot of apps before this problem disappeared.

The title is saying it all - please post your experience with IM/voice apps regarding general quality and power (and cellular data) consumption - this should include IM-only stuff like Whatsapp or more complete programs like Skype.
Right now I am on a very well optimized configuration that (together with a 4200 mAh battery) and a modest usage pattern results in only needing a recharge every 5 days or so - however during the last days I have done more specific testing with Skype (and some other apps) - and here are my problems:
- Skype does not seem to be able to always get usable voice over my 3G connection - lag and packet loss makes that unusable most of the time - in your personal experience is there any other voice app that does better with non-stellar 3G connections?
- I decided to test for a day the power consumption if I leave 3G data and Skype always on - so that I can use it as an alternative (free) messaging platform with some of my friends - however it seems that the power consumption is quite serious (and checked with BetterBattryStats the CPU only goes to deep sleep in 80% of the time it should); in your personal experience is there any other messaging app that is much better in regard to power consumption?
- also the 'background data usage' bothers me a little with Skype - it seems that there are constant packets sent over the data connection and this can be a problem with people having more limited cellular-data plans - any other app that is better in this regard?
I use IMO. This one can have multiple accounts connected: Skype, Facebook, ICQ etc. I have data on all the time so it will stay connected. The consumption is usually from 0.9 to 2 % per hour. The only problem with IMO is that you can not make calls with Skype unless other user is also connected to Skype using this app.

I tried IMO in the past and i had abandoned it back then, but now after reading this I have installed the latest beta and I must say I am impressed - good battery consumption and very decent sound with acceptable bandwidth - I will make a more detailed post in a few days when I will finish testing with it!
I am using imo too. I always felt Skype was eating too much of battery while active.
[Q] "Google Services" app suddenly started using unusually high background data
Please see the attached screenshots of data usage for the past three weeks. Two weeks ago I noticed a steep increase in the amount of background data used by Google Services, from the usual 1 ~ 2MB per week to something as high as 16MB per week. From what I can tell using 3G Watchdog, the majority is outbound traffic. I'm a light data user, only turning on 3G when I'm in transit for 2 hours a day to check email and chat on Hangouts. I don't recall changing anything significant on my phone in that period, aside from app updates and upgrading to 4.3 on the 24th. I'm on a light data plan, with only 100MB monthly quota, so this increase is very significant for me. Right now I have the restrict background data option enabled for Google Services to try to curb this new problem, but I'd still like to know what's going on.
to be honest, that usage is very normal, and still considered not much. anything can cause it to go up this little, yes it only went up a tiny bit. your usage, syncing, background notification checks.. id suggest more that 100mb for any smartphone as 100mb isnt really realistic for a smartphone.

Yes, it went up a tiny bit in absolute terms, but relatively this is huge. We're talking about 1000% of what was normal for that app, without change in my usage pattern. I hear you though. 100MB a month is crazy low these days, but for what I use my phone for, it had been more than enough for the past 7 months that I've had the phone. I usually end up with 20 ~ 30MB to spare every month.

yea, in relative terms, it is a huge difference. i average about 250-350mb per day, id never servive with only 100mb.

Haha, yeah, my friends on unlimited data couldn't believe it either when I told them I survived on 100mb. They use that up streaming a short youtube video. I'm in wifi range for most of the day. When I'm not, I keep it to emails, text chats, and the occasional live transit locator. On the rare occasion when I do browse the web on the go, I use Opera Mini to compress the traffic. It's definitely doable :silly:

On checking data usage, I found the culprit to be Google Services, under which I see Play Services, Services Framework, Account Manager, Contacts Sync, Network Location and Bookmarks Sync. Is there anyway I can find out which of these 6 caused the data download?
My location access is disabled, and so is my App update over mobile data. My gmail and contacts sync are enabled, but I doubt if that would take 450Mb.
I have now restricted background data, but I sure would like to know the reason for this sudden spurt in data usage.

Can it be the cause? Maybe the OTA is being downloading again and again but it can't finish the installation process due some reason, possibly related with custom ROMs / Kernels / whatever.

I am using Carbon ROM, but I don't have any notification for any update...besides I thought OTA update will be a foreground process?

I don't know, but probably yes according to these people wasting data since OTA was released.

I'm on stock everything, although I did manually flash 4.3. If it's downloading the OTA repeatedly, then it's doing it really slowly for me (like 2MB/hour). That's an interesting theory though.

my case appears to be the worst among the bunch: Google Services used 4.4 GBs of data since the 27th
I'm on a cm10.1 nightly on a galaxy nexus and over the last 2 days google services has eaten 300+mb of data (approx 180 the first day then 120 the second until I hit my limit). The 4.3 OTA may very well be causing this problem.
Is this a widespread problem? How can we fix it?

Carbon rom here. Same issue. Massive google services data usage in last few days. Like 600mb + a day.

******* I'm having the exact same problem! my phone has used almost 500mb in the past day and now I only realised when my data provider sent me a warning message!
just lost 735MB in 3 days! nexus 4 CM 10.1.0-RC2

Just an update on my phone's situation:
Yesterday I flashed the phone back to stock 4.2.2 (including userdata, so everything was wiped), then upgraded to stock 4.3 again using the Google update service this time (I manually flashed 4.3 last time). I then did a factory reset and wiped cache. Initially the "Android OS" app ate up 6MB of 3G data in an hour without me using the phone at all, but all data usage is now back to normal after I turned off wifi network location service. I'm not entirely sure what did the trick, but I backed up and restored all my apps after the wipe using Titanium, so it's unlikely that a third party app was the culprit. I'll keep an eye out to see if the problem does come back, but for now it seems to be fixed. Not sure how this would help those of you running CM rom.
System Update Issue
I've noticed this same issue since i updated all my Google Play applications last 07/30. Before the update, I did not have this high bandwidth consumption.
Anyways, i've been researching in my phone and tried the following solutions:
First, I restricted Google Services background data, this did not work, it was still consuming my data. So I kept researching and found something interesting, i went to About Phone - System Update, and noticed my phone was consistently trying to update to 4.3 JB (which is 183 MB), and after the download was complete, then a "verification failed" error message was displayed.
At this point, i thought, This is probably the cause i've been losing all of my data. I am running ParanAndroid along with franco kernel for some time, maybe this is the reason the update is failing.
So, a rough solution i did to this meanwhile: Go to Settings -> Apps -> All and disable Google Services Framework, this will ensure that the update is not constantly being downloaded, however, many Google applications will have issues.
Try switching off Wifi and Mobile network location in the settings.

I just checked the system updates tab in my settings and it keeps redownloading 4.3 due to it not being able to install correctly. It is redownloading the rom again and again. Does anyone know how to disable the OTA?
