Walked into RadioShack and asked to see a dummy unit just to look at the size and everything. A Sprint rep just so happened to be there and came out with a fully working unit, handed it to me, and said "have at it"! It was so awesome I made this very small video review (not covering everything, but we pretty much know everything about it). Hope you enjoy.
Hi Tyson
did it feel a bunch bigger than your hero? I have a hero and wish it was a tiny bit bigger, but not huge. Guess I'll find out on the 4th! Pretty excited to get my hands on one. Thanks for posting it up.
Sean
Well I have to say that I love the size of the evo. It dwarfs the hero's screen, and in a good way. I am very excited for this device, especially after playing with it for around a half hour or more. It actually made my wife want to change to it, which she will in September when her contract is up. She is unbelievably jealous that I'm getting it next week, so I guess I'd better hide it when I'm home.
Thanks for this. I've been wanting to see someone just play the phone (camera, market place, browser, etc...) and it's great to see that it lives up to my expectations.
thanks for the impromptu vid.....can wait to get my grubby paws on one, i actually almost bit on a HD2 from T Mobile.

Hi guys, I started this thread with the intent that the new users of our forum could first stop in and introduce their selves. They are the new blood around here and may very well have something useful to share with us! Use this thread as you see fit as long as you keep it clean and follow all the XDA rules
Enjoy!!!
Here I'll start us off:
Hi my name is Josh. I'm 27, married to the best woman in the world. We have a beautiful 5yo daughter who is now in school. I have one dog, one wolf mix, a cat, a hamster and a tank full of minnows(my daughter said we are not allowed to use them as bait, lol) I am U.S. Army Medically Retired. I was a 91B(mechanic)(originally a 63W for you old heads) in the Army until I hurt my back. I've been to Iraq twice, Egypt once, and did maint support operations on the Port of Beaumont, Texas and the Port of Olympia in Washington. I was there while the riots where going on. I did enjoy serving my country and am very proud to have been given this special opportunity. Now that I am out of the mil I can focus more on my family, living life and of course my geeky addiction.
Its been a fun road to now. I started out with my first Android phone the HTC Droid Eris. I enjoyed the works of many great devs and learned so much while using there Rom's. workshed, Tazzpatriot, condemned soul, conap, gnarlic man the list goes on... These guys are really who got me interested in developing and everything else. With there help a did a little theming for the Eris. It was mostly just minor stuff for Cm. As time past I eventually moved on to the HTC Droid Incredible. I've been here since March. I started out again doing some theming then I moved up to my DTR's (BUNKER BUSTER DTR and yes since I'm retired U.S Army thats why it is named something militaryish). Its a fun little project and its also my way of sticking it to the man, lol. Now most of my focus goes to my Roms. I have Pure Speed which is my first and my baby. I'm so proud of that rom. I also have Hybrid Speed, Sub Sonic and my latest my first ever 3.0 rom Pure Shooter.
All in all this Inc community has taught me so much and showed me a whole new world I never knew existed. We have good support, good people and great devs here. My time spent here is now just keeping my work updated and trying to help out as much as I can.
Anyways, enough with me blabbering on... Lets hear about you!
You know the phone is awesome when the introduce yourself thread is created a year and a half after release.

Well its just that here recently we've had a mass of new users show for whatever reason so guess now is better than never.
Seriously, I got mine in march of this year with phones surrounding the dinc that supposedly had better tech and have not looked back since. When my contract is up in two years, there will be some serious advancements in phone tech.

Yea that's me too. I got mine in March as well so I'm still in for the long haul. Just trying to help mold our forums into something fun and enjoyable for all of us alike.
Well i actually just recently got my incredible last month because i smashed my iphone 4(walls and apples don't mix). In the last 2 months I've done more on my phone than development wise than ever thought possible now I'm hooked.

Hi Don me too, lol. BTW what are you doing in here old timer? Just kidding.
New Guy
Retired Navy with 30 years in Subs. (Missile Technician)
I used this forum to root the other day.
This site seems to be used as a reference for others so I went to the source.
I rooted to the CM7 and the new radio that came out with gingerbread.
After going through the rooting process I am ready not to go through the setup again. TB kept force closing after each app install(took a long time) I'll wait for awhile and let the guru's play with the new GB and see what develops.
I am Ryan, been here since day 1. The root process was crazy involved then... Memories! But I got it, after three days of trying after work! I try to help here from my experiences I've had with my Inc. I've rooted my girl's Desire, my Xoom, and this week my buddy's Inc is getting the business!
I've done some minor tweaking of existing code, but haven't done any ROM creating/modding. I've made themes for myself, so I understand how to replace/edit/create draw 9 PNG's and replacing other files in APKs. I've become pretty good with GIMP, but have never created images from scratch.
Other than that, I'm a smart ass, like to golf, and am currently moving in with my girl. I've met really cool people in these forums, who I continue to talk with via Twitter or Gtalk.
Looking forward to helping anyone out, and meeting new/existing DInc owners.

This sounds like an android support group ha
anyway..
Hi!
My name is Paul I've had my phone since November of last year, but only later decided I wanted to try this rooting shenanigans in January. I was again slow to switch from sense over to AOSP, but now since I've done all that I really love my phone and even now I just figured out there's a whole mess more you can do with widgetlocker and other theming apps.

I've recently found a really cool site for android theming:
http://mycolorscreen.com/category/android/
Some of the stuff on there I had no idea you could even do, it's amazing.
I think there'll probably be more user who've had their Dinc for a while rather than newer users BUT ANYWAYS.... Well my name's Antonio and I'm 17. I'm hoping to go to either Princeton or Boston University and become an Anesthesiologist. The Dinc is my first smartphone and I got it in September 2010, but didn't root until sometime around December. I had no idea what root was, I found out more about it when Gingerbread first came out and builds started coming out for the Dinc. I began to do some research and I found Xda, but I didn't become a member until March of this year. I have since then become a flashaholic and the longest continous time I've had a ROM has been Pure Shooter for two weeks so far.... Do we get a gold star for this? Lol

Well I'm not new, but I figured I'd chime in a bit!
Hi all! I'm Bob and I'm a college student with a major in Computer Science and minor in Information Systems. The HTC Incredible is my first smartphone, and since I got it on launch week, I've been hooked! I was pretty active on Android Forums, helping people out and whatnot but I finally decided to make XDA my permanent home.
I've recently begun developing apps for Android just as a fun side project. I have not made a ROM yet, but I have been heavily debating it. I think I'll give it a try when the real Gingerbread OTA comes out, but we'll see since I'll be busy with school starting back up AND work in a few days...
I try to help people out because this is a community. I try to give feedback as much as possible and like to point people in the right direction if ever needed. I am a bit of a ROM flashing addict and even the ROMs that I don't try, I at least read about and get familiarized with! The Inc community is seriously awesome, and we've only gotten better as a whole. Thanks to the devs and to all the members for making my hobby even more enjoyable!
cool idea; you know, i've always wondered about a lot of us here..we always talk phones and whatnot, but we dunno anything about eachother lol
well i'm jay (clearly lol) and i'm from the shore of NJ, born and raised (not to be affiliated with that dirtbag trash on that bull**** TV show, sigh.) i'm 24, i've got my bachelors from rutgers university and my masters from monmouth..unfortunately, since our wonderful government is utter **** right now, the fact that my degrees deal with getting a job in the state/federal government realm isn't helping whatsoever, as I can't land a gov job for the life of me...so i currently work for a small family-owned Verizon store that sells vzw phones, accessories and FiOS. besides that, i'm a musician of 11 years (bass, guitar, drums) and i play bass in a band.
as for my wonderful android journey, it only began in may of 2010 when my buddy sold me his htc eris for 20 bucks when he got his dinc on release day in the mail in april. he told me it'd be fine for me since it was my first smartphone, but he was sick of it already (had it for like 4 months lol) and that it was super laggy to him, so he got the dinc. well, the eris lasted me barely 3 months..even after rooting it and upping my processor speed with setcpu, the thing was still super laggy and the typing lag was atrocious..
so i was one of the people who ordered the Dinc during the Great Amoled Shortage of '10 hahah...ordered it early July, and got it on July 29th...kept it stock for a while, thought the phone was AMAZXING bc there was no typing lag etc...and then that damn Froyo OTA hit, and my phone just started crapping out. typing lag was about as bad as it was on the eris after that OTA, and i almost threw this phone so many times. so finally, in january of '11 i rooted...put on lou's redemptive revolution, still had keyboard lag, and was just super angry.
then i saw Z roms come about, and my lag was finally gone, and i've been playing with new roms ever since. so yeah, safe to say i've easily had this phone for a year and have no intentions on upgrading anytime soon! haha
whoa, that was a book! but whatever. i love my inc, and after just installing synergy again and the Warm theme for the first time, it's bringing me back to my early days of rooting when my first Z rom was warm z two.point.two!! ahh nostalgia.
I'm somewhat new here, due to my recent activity. But I recently got hold of an Incredible after my Droid A855 had growing digitizer issues. I haven't looked back because I really grew to like the device because it's extremely light (sometimes a little too light for comfort), and it's been smooth as melted butter. I'm currently running gingerbread inc deck 1.2b beta on my rooted Incredible. For what I consider(ed) a stop gap device, I'll be hard pressed to find a 4G phone I'll like enough to use my upgrade from VZW..
Another march guy. My name is cameron. I'm 17, currently jobless, have way too much on my plate for a 17 year old, and have the best girlfriend and family I could ask for.
The job field I want to get into its automotive. I've been tearing apart 350 small blocks, 429 big blocks, honda engines, and everything in between since I could walk.
I'm an admitted crackflasher (flashed every rom in the dev section at least once) I was introduced to android when I got a motorola defy for christmas (it blew)
One day I eventually wanna have a family of my own with this girl right here.

Seriously...when is this going to happen? Has anyone gotten the email to send their Xoom back yet?
Last I heard, all verizon employees who has one and a few selected non-verzion employees gotten it done and came back with no issues so the full wide upgrade should be taking place sometime this month.
Thanks for the reply. I have been hearing it should be this month...but we're fairly far along into 'this' month to still not know anything imho.
Ok...I ask again...anyone have any news? real news?

Seriously man, at the risk of sounding as someone put it, all gangster, if someone gets a notification, we will know. No one is sitting at home just waiting for your post, so they can share the news.
The guy who flips the switch is probably off in the Bahamas somewhere, sucking on a drink with an umbrella in it. Or, he's somewhere else doing who knows what. Either way, there will be new headlines when someone does get box.
Chill....this is not worth turning gray over.
I tried to get a petition going months ago but got bashed out of the forum because people thought it was coming in a couple weeks. Its now been months since.
I was extreme in point out the fact that especially us early adopters who paid a premium price got ripped off dramatically by both companies. Still no 4g half working SD. Etc etc.
We are way past the deadline and it honestly makes me feel good that I was right and all the ones bashing me back then should be very very apologetic. But that's asking way to much for these forums I know.
Moto needs legal action. And a major petition etc etc. We as the consumers should be heard.
Good luck

Man, I for one am glad you feel vindicated. It must feel great to be that single voice of reason in the 500k or so Xoom owners.
We all know the problems, there is no way to avoid it. This is not a case where some guy can get it working, while another cannot. We are all in the same boat.
I knew within 15 minutes of purchase that something was not right, when what the agent told me did not match up with what Verizon and Motorola were posting online. The situation immediately became, am I happy with what I got, or does it go back. I made my decision and have not looked back.
This is a good tablet for me. I have been extremely happy with it. The point that it can be so much more is an after thought...I don't use this thing to its full potential as it is.
I think more people are upset over principle, you told me this...but it didn't happen. I think holding Verizon accountable for not following through as expected, should be done. At question is how. Petitions in a hacker forum is not the way. Did Verizon lie or cheat? Can you prove it?
How do you hold them accountable? There is only 1 way. With your wallet. Do not purchase from them again. The only thing important here is money. They will listen to money. If you are not willing to back this up with your wallet, your petition will mean nothing.
Verizon is a big bad, mean company, fighting a war with att. Their lawyers are aggressive, mean and rugged. You will not win. But you can spend your $200 a month at tmobile or sprint. Enough people do that, then you win....for now.
Otherwise, I still like my Xoom as it is. It could be better with 4g....but I bought what was in my hands. When it comes to my next purchase, I'll look elsewhere first. Went to look at the Bionic the other day. Rep asked "Get one for you?". I replied, " Sure, as soon as you finish with my Xoom. Until then, I'm spending my $200 at T-Mobile." Then I walked out slowly.
That's my petition.
I wanted to know if I should buy the unit unlocked now or wait till it comes out in America with AT&T?
If I wait for the AT&T version, though, it will likely come barraged with bloatware and features will be locked like tethering. I believe that rooting the Note will allow tethering and removal of the bloatware but I'm not sure. I am eligible for the 2 year discount if I get the Note with AT&T but how long will I have to wait?
I currently have the Dell Streak with a 5" screen and Rooted with a Streak-Droid custom ROM and all the bells and whistles included but this new G-Note is making me very happy! I gotta have one!
What do I do? $700 now with no Bloatware and tether ready or wait for AT&T to put there crap in it and pay $300 or so and then root it?
This is a video (a long a$$ video) of the Galaxy Note and Nexus World Tour in Europe. This should help you understand why this phone will be sought after sooooo much.
i have the same confusion.. but who knows when AT&T will get the phone.. 2 months or more wait i guess.. wait will kill me... on the other hand 700$ seems too much...
I have been battling this same debate.
Here's the pros to waiting:
1. Save at least $400.
2. Gives time to see what bugs may come out by first buyers.
3. Easier warranty replacement through local att store.
4. Better layout of buttons as ours will likely come with a search button.
5. Possibly an NFC enabled American version.
6. During your wait you fin out about another device right around the corner that blows this one away...samsung it notorious for announcing a new device that blows away their current devices. Who knows..super amoled plus hd 5 inch screen?
The negatives:
1. They get it first. You have to watch everyone enjoy their awesome device as you remain sleepless at night refreshes pages for an announcement of release here.
2. The wait could be anywhere from 2-6 months for a release here.
3. The international version will get updated first while we wait forever for ATT to approve the update here.
4. Missing the cool look of the one main button vs a stupid search button.
5. Lose interest...convert to being an Amish and start making your own jams.
I'm leaning more towards waiting, but my upgrade isn't up until Jan 1st anyway. I also don't see the benefit in buying an unsubsidized phone since we don't get lower monthly rates for it. I could maybe accept paying $400 if I could save $20 a month on rate plans over the next two years.
From my experiences, it's ALWAYS better to wait in these particular situations, where new technology is evolving so quickly. Let samsung work out the kinks on the 1st batch of notes. (i.e. 1st batch of ps2's were not as good)
I really wanted the samsung galaxy s2, but waited and now I'd rather have the note. Save money, and more better options will open up.

Live is short. Enjoy its pleasures while you can. I got my sg2 when it was lunch in Europe 6 months ago and I've enjoyed it. I feel like it's time for me to move on to a device like the Note. I want a super amoled HD screen bigger than 4.3" so bad that I will pay full price if I have to. I just wish it had NFC.

For me I just can't see spending that much on a phone so I will wait for AT$T to get it. I am also worried about the warranty.
I am glad that I am a physician.
Study hard and work hard and you get to enjoy the fun toys in life.
I just ordered the unlocked Galaxy Note. I will be enjoying it a few months and then sell it at a loss and buy another high end phone. $700 for a phone is a lot but then it only take me about half a day to make $700. I could never wait for 2 months to get a new phone that I want. Time is money.
Life is short, so enjoy the fruit of your labor. I encountered dead and sick people often so I get to appreciate life a lot.

I have another question to ask...
Is the UK version of...let's say... the SGS2 the same as the American version. At least as far as Hardware is concerned.
I'm curious if it is common for Samsung to have Hardware differences in the same phones for different countries.
Anybody know?
This would make a huge difference in my decission to wait or not.

I pre-order one also the 26 but still no ETA
If it makes any difference to anyone sitting on the fence: I just read an article that said the FCC passed an AT&T version of the Note today. At first I thought "who cares," because I'm debating pre-ordering too, and as anyone else considering pre-ordering knows, the european model has support for at&t's radio frequencies anyway. BUT, the article pointed out the support for HSPA+, which I didn't consider before. I don't really care, as it's never made much of a difference for me, but if you do care, there ya have it.
The wait could still be a long, long time, but I like to hope that FCC approval means it will be here soon. Then again, maybe Sammy is just being diligent with paperwork... does anyone know when the AT&T GS2 passed through the FCC?
AT&T announced two new phones today, if the note was going to be on their network in less than a few weeks, I think they would have announced the Note too
Hey, Earthbrain: I don't mean to start a fight or get off topic, but I have to address the comment you made earlier. My father was a physician too, and I know it takes a lot of work to get there, it involves long hours, and you deserve to make a great salary. Not debating that. And I applaud your advice to study hard and work hard. But I don't like the implication that studying hard and working hard = good income. Not because that's a bad idea (it's a GREAT idea!), but because it's extremely untrue. I'm a teacher, and I work damn hard. As hard as a doctor? I can't say, I'm not a doctor, but I doubt it's a significant difference.
I know you didn't mean to be a jerk - you meant to give good advice - but it just feels like a slap in the face when you're busting your ass all the time for completely thankless work that pays less than 30K. You work hard and deserve a good salary, I just wish the state/school could afford to pay me 1/4 of your salary. Hell, 1/8 would be a miracle. My advice to any youngster/grade school student reading these forums: Work hard, study hard, be kind, and if you want a good salary (which is a good thing to have), choose your career accordingly.

That article is a month old.
FCC approval was a long time ago and unfortunately it does not mean that ATT is going to get it soon
You have to ask yourself if you can wait that long before AT&T releases it. It took nearly 6 months for AT&T to get the SGS2 from the time I bought my SGS2 from Expansys-USA.

Sorry for being a little off topic but I have to clarify after reading this post.
When I said "study hard and work hard" I implied that you will have better chance of having a good income. I did not make it absolute like you stated as "study hard and work hard = good income"
Nothing is absolute in life except for DEATH.
Doctors work very hard, but of course there are exceptions and there will also be "some" teachers who work harder than "some" doctors. However, to put it in some perspective, imagine that you are a "certain" doctor that have to go to the hospital at 6:30 am to do rounds and go home at 7 p.m after admitting all the patients and then there are days when you are on call in which you are constantly being awaken by the nurses or that your heart is beating more rapidly trying to revive a patient from a code blue.
Oh, and speaking of salary differences. An orthodontist who does braces normally make about 5X the salary of a general doctor and normally does not work as hard and has less responsibility. They both "have to study hard and work hard" .... so why is there such a big gap in salary?
Guys? Let's take this personal discussion of careers and salaries offline to Private Message.

What that guy said!
Meeting this guy, a now friend, Munir has really altered my perception of "Success", "Happiness", & "Failure". I honestly don't think it was chance that I met him either. A strange god damn cosmic alignment of life stories. HAHA
I always enjoy meeting new and interesting people, and striking up conversations with them about their life experiences. Tonight, by chance, I happened to run into Munir; someone so unorthodox and untethered from society's conventions and norms. We all know how judgmental the so called "Community" can be when you choose to do something unconventional with your life. Munir is from Vancouver, Canada who last year decided that there's more to life than his daily regimen and lifestyle. He's had to fight through a lot and become independent at an early age. He asked himself that "what if" question that many philosophical thinkers do, "If I were to die tomorrow did I take in and experience everything the world has to offer, and did I leave an everlasting impact on this world?" He moved out of his apartment, sold all of his belongings (furniture, car, etc.), chose to work remote for a while. He then invested in a minivan and completely gutted the interior to build a living/work/sleep area. For the last 10 months he's been on a "Soul Searching" road trip traveling from Vancouver, through the West Coast (Mountain/Pacific Area), Rockies/Canyons, West South Central, South Atlantic, and now working his way through the Northeast and Midwest, before heading back to Vancouver. He soon plans to work on setting up his amazing "Startup" idea that will one day revolutionize how small/micro businesses work, and publishing a few books, and wants to further travel other continents. I know a lot of people, myself included, that always say they want to do something out of the box and amazing before they die. Very few of us will actually live up to those words. This post does not do justice to how unique, and awesome this man is.
My life.
When i went to to the bathroom without any toilet paper...
Ive been working at the same job in the same position for 5 years now, and i have been aiming to be a trainer for new employees. Ive been working hard at it for the past 4 years or so and have finally heard today that i am in the running to potentially snag the position. Well, right before i left work they let the cat out of the bag. They let me know that i have gotten the position and will be starting that job Sept. 15th. The reason this is life changing is because i am a diabetic and have been having a tough time keeping up with bills and having to pay for the expensive meds. With the new position comes better benefits that would cover most of the bills and a hand some raise. This is the reason i can finally move into a new phone. Currently i have an old SGS2 that needs replacing. This would definetly be the icing on the cake. Thanks!
I just quit my 6 figure job of 15yrs because it was boring as hell. It's the first time I've been unemployed in 18yrs and I'm actually enjoying it. Currently on extended vacation before I continue training for a different though similar job.
Many people think I was crazy to quit but the truth is I was miserable and it was time for a change. There just wasn't anything challenging left in my old job.

I guess just giving someone an invite is too easy but I won't knock how you're choosing to do it though.
Please continue the OPO invite story time on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/general/wishing-invite-soon-t2825090.
