Hi,
I ordered my HD from handtec about three weeks ago to be delivered to the USA. The day before it was delivered a guy from Fed-Ex rang up and emailed a form that needed to be filled out and faxed back before they could release it from customs. did that and got it fine the next day with just a signature. Yesterday i got a bill from Fed-Ex for $20.71 for "Duties, Tax, Customs, Other Fees" Not a big deal but something to be aware of...did everybody else get this bill as well?
yup.. i got billed that but i didn't know it was from Fed Ex.. it got charged to my credit card and i thought it was just an international currency conversion fee or something..
no bills from FedEx or additional charges on my card (as of today)... could be that I was proactive and called FedEx to supply the single bit of info they had not yet requested: the FCC ID for the HD.
I did not paid anything extra, my HD was held in customs because of FCCID, but seller provided all information. Later I got an envelope from Fedex full of stuff regarded FCCID seller provided for them.
it's now been almost 3 months since the Nexus One was released now.
Buyers in the UK, did you get a VAT bill from DHL, or did you get away with it?
Got VAT bill 2/3 weeks after the phone.

There's no import duty on mobile phones. Just the 17.5% vat.
i have not seen one yet, and its been 3 months, surely i would have received one by now.

That's what the poll is about... if you got a VAT bill...
I got a VAT bill 4 weeks later for £61.48
Mine originally got charged to work. Still awaiting a personal invoice through (assuming it gets sorted properly) still expecting to pay one in the near future though.
So did mine, had to phone up and winge as they tried to charge me the commercial admin fee, fair play they sorted out a credit pretty quick.
business' dont pay vat on phones to avoid fraud. consumers who go over the personal import levy with customs and excise then have to pay vat as its coming from outsde europe.
if you didnt get one say nowt!!

I got one few weeks after purchase for around £60.
Nearly 2 months here and I got mine a few days ago. I'm moving out of this house in a couple weeks, any harm in not paying?
Apart from tax evasion i think you should be fine
The first bill DHL sent me they charged me 5% import duty on top of the VAT, so I called them up to have the bill corrected and send me a revised bill. That was a month ago. I have yet to receive my revised bill. So until my new updated bill arrives I ain't gonna pay DHL a single penny.
If you've had a bill and don't pay, DHL will just pass your details on to a recovery agency who will charge you more, take you to court and damage your credit rating. Not really worth it.
If you are still yet to get one and you had it dispatched to work there is a chance your company will have received the bill as DHL will send it to the "account holder" at that address if one is on file. Now your company may have kindly paid it for you, or the paperwork is moving around in circles as no one has any idea why a VAT bill would have been sent to them.
Got my tax bill 3 weeks after delivery for the N1, sent to work address.
About 2 weeks after delivery for desktop dock 1, sent to work address.
Still waiting on the one for desktop dock 2 (sent to home address, ordered at same time as 1).
You really don't want to try and avoid paying if billed - UK Customs and Excise have an awful long memory and a lot of power (rights of entry to property, opening mail to address, etc etc).
Been 3 months now and not received it yet.
We move on 16th April to anew address so I'm not sure how it will stand if it gets sent to the old address.

You could always inform DHL that you're moving.
I had to pay the VAT before they'd deliver my N1, then the confirmation was going to take so long it would take an extra day to deliver, so I went and collected it from DHL's depot at the airport.

A couple of years back I imported some stuff and DHL charged me VAT for it, which I forgot about. They send you a reminder bill (a red bill) a month later if you don't pay. So it's not like they don't give you a chance before passing it on to the debt/bailiff department.
We’re writing in regards to your recent Nexus One purchase. There was an issue with the way the sales tax was applied to your order. When your order was placed, you paid taxes on the full retail price of the phone. However, you should have only been charged taxes on the sales price of the phone. We apologize for this issue and wanted to let you know that Google will issue a partial refund for the difference in the amount of taxes you were charged.
The refund will be issued to the debit/credit card used to complete the original purchase. To verify which card will receive the refund, please sign in to your Google Checkout account at https://checkout.google.com and click ‘View order’. The payment information for the order will be listed at the bottom of the order receipt.
If the debit/credit card used to complete your purchase has been closed, your card-issuing bank should forward these funds to your new account or mail a check to you for the amount of the refund.
If you have any questions about the refund, or if you need further assistance, please reply to this email and we’ll be happy to help.
Sincerely,

sooo google charged extra for sales tax;; who else got this email?
I do, can't wait cause i'm broke!!!
Apple would never do something like this, thanks for being so honest Google
well i just calculated it
these are my numbers
8.875% = NYC Sales Tax
529.00 = RETAIL Price
-250.00 = Discount
8.875% of (529.00 - 250.00) = $24.76125
not much of a refund i guess but its good they are being honest...
I got the same email today too
Do you guys live in states with a sales tax?
I got mine forwarded to AUS via oregon, which i don't believe has sales tax. I did not pay any import tax, So i am assuming that at no point did i pay tax for the phone, would that be right? or do they put tax on at the time of purchase?
I paid full price...529 + 46 nys tax.
Im assuming i dont apply.
A friend of mine and I both got that email today as well.
i presume this is for US only? not UK?
thanks
so, this doesn't apply to the people that bought it at full price or does it? i didn't get an email yet...
Got that email yesterday as well. I guess we were too excited to actually check the sales tax we paid?
I looked at the sales tax I paid through google checkout, and then cross referenced that through my bank account, and I paid the correct ammount. Hmmmmm, maybe a global refund of the 20+ dollars?

It wouldn't apply because you paid the correct sales tax. Google was taxing for the full price when people were buying at the subsidized price.
Not in California ???
YES! 14 dollar refund?!?!?! Thats fine by me
Hmm.. I wonder why I haven't received this email. I just checked my google checkout receipt and it looks like I paid full tax amount on subsidized price too lol. I wondered why tax was so much but I was too excited to think more of it haha.
I get my Google phones for free, so nope! *sticks out tongue*

Nope, even buying subsidized from a retail store (in california) they still charge you sales tax on the full price of the phone.. So no refund..

Aww dammit. That's not cool. I was juiced about a reimbursement too. Guess I can kiss that goodbye
They should refund me the price difference between the touchscreen they used and a legitimate touch screen.
It sounds like that $164.99 upgrade pricing that was offered yesterday online to T-mobile customers might have been a mistake.
I was able to order the phone, and it shows that it's still processing in the order status.
Who else took advantage of the deal, and if so, has your order cleared?
I'm curious to see if T-mobile will honor this pricing if it really was a mistake.
Yep
I got mine for $164.99 and it says pending shipping, ETA Jul. 22nd (UPS Ground). The $75 downpayment is pending in my bank account.
If they try to renege on it, I'm done. As soon as my contract is up in 4 months, I'll be gone.
Yeah, I see the payment pending in my bank account as well. It does seem odd, since I technically wasn't eligible for fully discounted upgrade pricing for another few weeks.
I've been with T-mobile for 7 years with no issues so I'm on the fence about leaving if they don't honor the pricing. I'm sure they would offer the discounted rate of $199 - which is still very reasonable - if that $164 really is a mistake.
You can get the same phone on other carriers, but in the end you will pay the same $199 (or more with activation fees with a new provider).

Mine shipped. I already have tracking number. I can't see how they can charge more than confirmed. I have a printed order page. Actually, I went through Bing so I intend to insist on an additional 35% Bing cash back.
walmart has it for $99. including car adaptor.
Mine has shipped as well... I did the pay $64 up front and then add $33 to my bill for 3 months... They better not try to charge me more... thats actually why I bought it.. I didn't think i was eligable for an upgrade, but I decided to check anyways to see if Im able to get it for $199, then when I saw $164 I instantly purchased... maybe that was their plan!
went to a tmobile store and told them about the costco ad, they pricematched it for 99.99, no rebates, came out to 106 with tax
Rather upset, I didnt order online for the 164, I went into the store and it was 269. I'm only 2 months from the 199 upgrade price. They did the same **** when I bought the G1, overpriced me in the store.
I'm looking at filing some complaints against them with the BB and DA for price switching.
I have the print out of 169 to give to the Seattle DA for price switching.

You understand that you can still return the phone for a full refund. Right?
IW, I'm not supposed to call out people on these forums.. but re-read everything you are saying and use logic.
I dont see how this is any different if I go online and see 39.99 for an oil change, I go in and they charge me 59.99 because their computer says its 59.99. Thats wrong, and some states illegal.
No, its completely different. Maybe if you actually ordered online, you could draw that comparison. But the fact that they didn't give you full upgrade pricing when you aren't even eligible isn't dishonest at all.
The 165 pricing is still on their site? If it was a mistake I assume they would of fixed by now.

It's still there,164.99 .i just ordered another one for my wife.
Also, were only halfway through our 2 year contract.I don't get it,but hey thanks tmo!
Putting fairness and legality aside, it's pretty amazing how the story changes from customer to customer, as well as CSR to CSR. Whether or not it's right, it certainly has a car dealership feel to it.
I did, though, just get a text message saying my order will ship within the next seven days, so I guess I'm safe.
where do you people get this ? it was 199 yesterday and its 199 now.....
Funny thing is that for my family plan and another friend of mine it was $ 499 on the site. My friend hasn't upgraded in 4 years.

same on my 2nd tmo account, just checked.......$199 on one and $499 on another........dont see anywhere 164
Well I just recieved a text message with a tracking number and checking the tracking number USP says they've had it since 8:30 last night and will Already moved it to Nashville and will deliever it on Monday...
So I can't see in any way how T-Mobile would change the price on me now...
I got mine from tmobiles website for $164.99 as well and I'm only at 18 months out of 24. I went to a local store to play with the phone and told the sales person about the online price. She told me to go home and order it online since the best she could do for me in the store was $289. I got a text this morning with a tracking number.
I had read a rumor somewhere that the additional $35 discount was for original G1 owners. I have no idea if there is any truth to that, but my wife has a G1 and I had a G1 and have a MT3G and we both got the $164.99 upgrade price.
Hi, I pre ordered a note 3 from america via ebay but I changed my mind a few hours after I paid. I asked the seller for a refund and he said that there is a restocking fee of 20% so he'll only refund me $600 of $750. I found this appalling because the item has NOT been dispatched and it is a pre-order therefore it is impossible for him to charge $150 restocking fee!!!! I chatted to an ebay live agent and they agreed with me. I opened a dispute via paypal but it is saying I need to wait until 29th September to escalate to a claim. Also, it is my birthday tommorow so this has made me a bit sad
Should I just call paypal on monday and ask them to escalate it to a claim? Also, do you think I will get my money back?
Thank You.
anyone?????
A few hours ago you were looking at buying one from clove, now it seems you'd already ordered one from eBay. Stop wasting our time with your BS.

One was for me and one is for my mum.
Even if you get the phone from eBay it may be a knockoff - highly probable. Fight to get all your money back and go through official channels to get the real deal dude

I have purchased a few PDAs (years ago) & smartphones off of eBay, try not unless it's a good deal. Whenever buying expensive toys ANYWHERE, common sense and asking questions is a must. Do ask about refunds, shipping, condition of item, refurbished or new, warranty if any, seller's reputation...then rely on common sense...if something is real cheap-dirt cheap- shipped from another country... I have only got burned once from ebay from buying over 198 items to date...then again PayPal reimbursed my loss...every penny.
Good luck.

Just contact PayPal and contact your bank and stop all charges. Cancel your debit card and order a new one. Its really that simple, don't get played.

Well, first of all, for it to be a "re-stocking fee" there has to be an actual item to RE-STOCK! Second, ebay sellers are not allowed to charge you a restocking fee, some do it, but it easy to get it back, just threaten him with a claim. A true restocking fee is, as an example, when you bring back an item bought from, lets say, best buy. You opened the box, bestbuy cannot sell the item full price and you got your money back - restocking fee to compensate for their lost money. Third, just open a paypal claim and you'll get your money back
Thanks to everyone for the help ive opened a paypal dispute but need to wait 7 days to open claim. I will call paypal tomorrow.

you dont have to wait, just go in dispute details and hit "escalate to claim"
Nothing I hate worse then people buying on eBay and then don't want it.
Don't bid or buy it if you don't want it.
The seller then has to repost it and fight off the charges for everything. It's a huge pain.
did you use your credit card to pay via paypal? or debit/bank account? - if cc was used, just dispute it with credit card company, simple and effective.
you went about this all wrong.. Now you have to go through this whole process. For future reference, your order of action should have been:
1) Apologize profusely for screwing up the seller's day.
2) Ask very nicely for a refund
3) if he gives you some bull**** line like restocking fees on an item that he couldn't have possibly shipped or isn't even in his possession yet, then you should politely tell him why you shouldn't be charged. Mention that there is no restocking fee on ebay and the above stuff about how restocking fees work.
4) wait at least 24-48 hours for a response
5) 95% of the time they will then issue a complete refund. For the other 5% of the time, it is now time to escalate with paypal and ebay and call your bank and etc.
If you follow these steps you will get your money back MUCH faster. If you just go effing rambo on claims you'll be locked into dispute for a drawn out period of time and neither party is really happy in the end. Kinda a lose-lose scenario whereas by doing the above in the correct order will most of the time end up in win win situation.
If he refunds give him a stale review mentioning his shoddy business practice of charging restocking fees on prerelease goods. (reviews are everything on ebay)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! You grow some, you learn some. CHEERS!
Refund your money through paypal.
