I am sorry if this has been posted and answered already. I am trying to get the Droid X keyboard on my Fascinate. I have put the apk file on my SD card. I plug my Fascinate from my Macbook Pro, and go into Astro File Manager. I click on the apk file, open it, and it says "Uninstall" and "Launch". When I click uninstall, it begins to do so then it says "Uninstall was not successful." When I click launch, it says "Activity was not found." It doesn't give me a choice to install the apk file. Then I try with Apps Installer, when I click it it says "Application Not Installed."
So basically I can install apk files on my Samsung Fascinate. I have also made sure to download the apk file that is for Android phones running 2.1 Eclair. I also tried this with the Samsung Keypad that is the standard keypad that is on all the Galaxy S phones (go to Youtube and search "Samsung Captivate keyboard options"...it is the keyboard shown 0:20 to 0:53) but for some reason it isn't on the Fascinate. I love that keyboard so I am trying to get it on the Fascinate but that is also not working.
Can someone help please?
Basically same results here I'm getting:
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS]
when trying to install using adb. I'm assuming the current keyboard on the phone is using the same name as the DroidX one wants to use..
Being a recent Better Keyboard convert, I would recommend installing that. It appears to be well worth the $2.99, when compared to the stock Fascinate keyboard (blech).

I'm starting to like Swype quite a lot, but it does take a bit getting used to.
Has anyoen figured this out?
Not sure if it's possible. Mainly because they are different resolutions. The D2 and DX are 854x480, while the Fascinate is 800x480. Plus, it sounds like they are the same name, and I have no idea how or what you would need to re-name.
I have it installed and am using it right now, you need to use root explorer and put it in system/apps, click it and install.
I'm liking the HTC IME keyboard on my fascinate. The hi res version works really well.

Ditto. I've been using Swype, Better Keyboard, Swiftkey, And Ultra KB. HTC is free and customizable as it gets.
I am using the Multi Touch keyboard NoW ThaNKs. I love it.

Anyone else getting force closes? I installed properly, but once you reboot and if your using the DX keyboard you will get force closes, any known fixes?

I have the same issue
I have this issue as well. What I did to stop that is really a temp fix. Just change the input method to another keyboard before you reboot it. When it boots back into the OS and you have that keyboard active the processes call for things that are specific to the Droid X that the Fascinate doesnt have. Until someone codes it correctly for the Fascinate you will get those force closes.
Actually, nobody is installing the DX keyboard properly.

Try that. Installs via clockwork.

Will this stop the force closes?
That stinks. I hate clockwork, had it on my eris and meh.
I remember using the HTC keyboard for my OG Droid. Can you use the HTC keyboard, say from the Incredible on the DX? I can't remember where to d/l it from, I think it was on XDA. Is anyone using the HTC_IME keyboard on the DX?
I tried getting it from here: http://www.droid-life.com/2010/07/22/download-htc-ime-keyboard-for-droid-x/
The htc_ime keyboard installs but wont open, I get FC errors? Anyone know how to properly install it? I just used astro to install the apk, and went into the my phones settings and clicked on this keyboard. When I go to write a text or enter a url in the browser, etc. I get a keyboard FC?
Same here... I don't think it's been further developed

is it possible to change the sound of the keyboard?
If possible. Is there a way to pull the sound from words with friends?
If not. Is there a way to pull it anyway. And use it for a ringtone?
Thanks

First you would have to find the default keyboard sound. If I am right, I think you might have to modify the system files to default to new sound rather than the original one. I dont believe you can simply swap the sounds. Second, you would have to know what the specific words with friends sound file name is to locate it and copy it.
I am not saying what your asking to do is impossible, but probably too invloved.
Under the the android forums, apps and development section, someone posted an app that they made that can change the system sounds. I haven't tried it out, but pretty sure you could do the keyboard with that app.
Hey,
does anybody know how I can turn off that annoying volumebeep?
Where is that sound stored?
Thank you

Look under system/media/audio, most system sounds are there.
I can't find the system media audio file!
Need a rooted device and something like root explorer.
Rename /system/media/audio/ui/TW_Volume_control.ogg to something else.
Reboot.

Ive seen so many posts that are old enough to be dropped but i would still love the keyboard sounds from the iphone for my phone, would anyone be able to get ahold of some or have any? i found one but the sounds were from an ipad and did not work correctly
try these
im guessing these are sound files in text format?, and thankyou! ill give them a shot
Yes, rename them as ogg, xda won't let me upload ogg format.
I'm sorry to sound like a n00b but how would I go about changing the keyboard clicking sound??
Which directory do I put the sounds in?
TIA
Edit: I found the directory and there is various sound for keyboard clicking.
Which one do I change?

You can rename it "KeypressStandard.ogg" and put it "/system/media/audio/ui/", remember to fix the permission to rw-r-r.
