Thanks JD, grat job ...first thing I'll do as soon as I get mine!
Just one question...if I set VISIONary to run on boot, and SetCPU as well, will the overclock be set automatically?
After I rooted with VISIONary, Rootexplorer says I dont have root, is this normal?

I don't use root explorer mate so i wouldn't know;(
If you follow my steps to the ticket you will not go far wrong
just adb push vision_oc.ko /data/local/

OK adb worked, but insmod says (operation not permitted). I think I don't root properly. Nobody says if I need to connect usb cable to PC before VISIONary runs. It says device is rooted, but no other applications can get root.
EDIT: I had Superuser Permissions application installed. Removing, restarting, rerooting helped, I now get prompt to allow root!
Now insmod says (file exists). Maybe because SetCPU is already installed. But when launched it shows 1017MHz, which I guess is still nice ;-) Will google how to change this to higher.
Edit: solution for (file already exists" message is to do this first:
rmmod vision_oc.ko
then:
insmod /data/local/vision_oc.ko pll2_l_val=70

its because you have not put in the var=70 yet
insmod /data/local/vision_oc.ko pll2_l_var=70
this will give you 1.34ghz
dont forget to put the setcpu autodetect on, or your overclock will revert back to 806mhz;(

After you follow the procedure for the first time, if you set both apps (visionary and setcpu) to set on boot will it work correctly at reboot?
What are the disadvantages of overclocking? I presume lower battery life?

G2 forums are reporting that the impact on battery life is unnoticeable (in fact, with the usual methods of underclocking the CPU when the screen is off and such, battery life is actually longer)

Wont make that big a difference.
With SetCPU you can set the settings to lower your speed when screen off so it's not always running at 1.3 or 1.4 or whatever GHz.
I added the following settings to my SetCPU:
- If screen off MAX speed 700 Mhz/Min Speed 300 Mhz
- If CPU reaches 37 Degrees Celcius Max Speed 700 Mhz/Min Speed 300 Mhz
Phone is definetly faster. At 1.4 GHz quadrant scored 2236 last night up from 1600ish before OC.

You have to start again after boot
with the reverting to 800mhz you need to set autodetect speeds in set cpu, follow the step by step to the letter mate

Can anyone provide some info on how the CPU clock speed is configured in CM 5.07?
I currently have a MT3G and it's my understanding the CPU is designed for a max speed of 528mhz. Does the CPU always run at 528mhz or does it throttle up to 528 when needed and throttle back down when idle? Is there a max and min cpu speed in the latest CM build? I know I can use apps such as Overclock and SetCPU to adjust the throttling of the CPU and to overclock beyond 528mhz, I'm just wondering how it works by default in CM 5.07 before I decide to mess around with overclocking.
Thanks!
You need to get Set Cpu then if you pm me I can give you a link for zip you flash in after you have set cpu installed...it's universal and will let you clock your speed up around 800, though I recommend something around 614...

Oh and by universal I mean it will work on any rom, for the 1.2...maybe it will work with any other phone but Ive only tested it on my-touches running different roms, therefore different kernels. Correct me if I'm wrong...And I didn't make it so I can't take the credit, I happen to find it but forget the site...

i'm not sure about an actual temperature range, but i would say anything that doesn't burn your hand when you hold it is acceptable. what build of cm7 are you using? i've been running set cpu set at 806 with nightly builds from a week ago up to today (13-19) with no issues.
Running build 18. 806 has always locked my phone up, even on CM6

But afaik, the temp the phone gives you is the battery temp, not the cpu temp, so it could be much higher than the reported number...
Anyway, 42° is moreless the line temp for me.

Well, if it's just charging you can create a setcpu profile that it lowers the mhz when doing so, so it doesnt heat up too much. At any rate, supposedly every good device should work fine under 50°C, if it's charging without overclock and you still get 46° then it should be safe.
If you can't measure it, you can't manage it. Try loading the "Perfect System Monitor" app from the Market. It will give you CPU temp data. I wouldn't worry about anything under ~50* C.

Try installing an overstock kernel, like Eugene373's Deadhorse Kernel, then you can download One Click Lag Fix from the market.
Just install a kernel that has oc capabilities and use set CPU to adjust the frequencies

after you have the oc kernel installed go into set cpu and set an audible alarm and for when your temp goes above 115 Fahrenheit, in that profile have it drop your clock speed down to 1000 or 800 to help your phone cool off before reactivating the full oc. Ive never had any problems with the cpu getting to hot oc'd to 1.2 thats not to say you wont.
Cheers
I don't think that overclocking and not destroying can be done at the same time.

All you need is a kernel that supports OC ie. (DoW, Tigersblood, Overstock, Dragon) you should be golden but double check compatibility with whatever ROM ur running.
I use "set cpu" to torque it up to 1.2(or whatever the kernel OC's to) Then i use "SystemPanel Lite" to check and make sure its actually OCing. In the system app it has a CPU Clock in the top right corner which monitors ur current cpu. When the system app opens it has a list of active applications i simply move the list up and down repeatedly really fast and watch the "CPU Clock" if it maxes out at 1.2 or whatever its good to go. I remember one time(cant remember what kernel)but set cpu showed 1.2 or 1.4 and even in system CPU info it showed OCed but if you did like i just described the CPU Clock never went above 1000Mhz. Like it was just showing as OC even tho it really wasn't it was really weird the clock would max out at 1000Mhz with dead space above it like it could go over but never would.

i never knew you could set audible alarms(guess i never really looked into it) thanks for that! running DoW221 OC to 1.4 i used to see my temps hit 120-130 it would freak me out! but never had any problems except for batt life avg 6-7hrs.
Personally my best OC ROM/kernel setup to this date has been MALICE[EDT]+Tigersblood(any release) everything works and great batt life for a OC kernel

Just make sure you backup before trying. Some Vibrants cannot handle overclocking (and there's no real way to know until you try). Mine is one of those, and if it can't handle it, an Odin to stock will be in your immediate future.
Yeah. Even when disabling the perflock, it won't let me chance the minimum frequency. ive tried setcpu, cpumaster, cputuner and a bunch of other apps. is there anybody here who's had the same problemo?
my kernel is 2.6.32
before rc1, just two hours ago, i had nightly version 173. i flashed rc1, because obviously i misread that it had a different kernel, 2.6.35. yeah right. im gonna rage soon. the battery drainage is horrible.
plz helps!??!?1one
edit: oh, what would you recon as the best rom for legend? thanks!
Maybe overclock is only on stable version, rc and nightly made for testing other stuff.
I use some mod of blayo rom, no overclock. Works awesome. More then 90 days without flashing or even reboot. Well only feature i need from custom rom is root and wake up on trackboll.

Thanks for replying! actually, the in-built cpumanager works like a charm, and i have been using it clocked to 825mhz. And cyanogen all in all works great, suprisingly nightly version 173 works better than 7.1.0 rc1.
But still, i cant UNDERclock the dang cpu. someone had his legend run with minimum freq at 19 mhz - and had a large impact on the battery life with the setup.
And it worked ok with incoming call?
There is no way to clock this kernel below 245 MHz unless you alter its frequency table and recompile it yourself. May I ask you why do you want to go below 245 MHz?

Bummer. Got no skills for that. I do alot of reading, and the system does not need 245mhz to run a screen with some text on it, i suppose. oh well...
so, your rom can be clocked below 245mhz? would you recommend it for everyday use? thanks!
Yeah, but when you are reading, you have to slide a lot I guess?
My conclusion was (after an extensive testing) that lowering the speed below 245 MHz didn't add much to battery life so I'm actually using just two profiles... one for screen on 245 - 768 MHz and one for screen off 122 - 480 MHz. Scaling governor is interactive in both cases.
If I can recommend my ROM? Dunno. I'm using it since I started it and I'm satisfied with it. I don't need anything else

Just a thread to see what people are setting their CPU speeds/governors at.
When I first opened the app stock seems to be
Min: 1026
Max: 1512
Gov: On Demand
All I have done so far is lower min to 594 because I felt 1026 is too high.

On the left it is saying my min and max freq is 1.5ghz, so I don't think that is right. When I check the report of the last 5 seconds it says its on 486mhz 90% of the time (486 is my set min freq).
