I am on Ubuntu 10.10 and connected to internet via wifi on a TrendNet usb wifi adapter.
Whenever I connect my Samsung Vibrant in debugging mode, my internet connection drops and I have to restart to get internet back. But I dont know if anyone would be able to help me with that.
But I think that even though the internet goes out, my phone is connected in debugging, and maybe I'll have to do without internet.
What I really need though is any info on how to install Samsung Vibrant Drivers for ubuntu to be recognized in adb?
By the way... I used this tutorial to install adb
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537508
I think I got most of it done but adb does not see my vibrant... please help...
Thank You very much
There are no drivers. You just plug it in with USB debugging turned on, change directory to your AndroidSDK/tools folder and use "./adb" (without the quotes) to do commands.
If you get ???????? Permision Denied, unplug your phone and enter:
sudo ./adb kill-server

Ok followed your directions. Now adb devices gives me
??????????? no permissions.

So unplug the phone, type in "sudo ./adb kill-server" plug it in again, then do "sudo ./adb devices"
Yea did that like 4 times. "List of devices attached"shows nothing... ?
I may try restarting the computer now...
Edit: do I always have to use ./
I think just adb works. Both works. What does ./ do ?

Unfortunately, I cannot be of any further help. That's always worked for me so I never had to take any other steps. I never had to create or edit any configuration files; I usually just kill the server and start it again when I run into that problem. Sorry.
I went through it when I got my phone, except the internet connection drop

ok I may see if this works
There are no drivers.
It worked out of the box for me. I don't know why it doesn't for some other people.
BTW,
./command means execute the commend in the current directory if it is not in your $PATH or before $PATH is looked up
I added
Code:
export PATH=$PATH:/home/myhome/android/tools
to my .bashrc file so I do not have to go into ~/android/tools directory to execute adb

Try different USB port if available.
Before you plug in the phone run
Code:
tail -f /var/log/messages
and plug in the phone, anything comes up in terminal window?

I didn't use lsusb, I was tailing the /var/log/messages when I was setting it up.
In lsusb you should be able to see the vendor ID, 04e8 should be Samsung

Yesss. It worked... tried a different usb port and it worked. I used that code to see if it came up 1 of them worked. I see my device in lsusb now. Let me do the rest and will update.
Internet problem still remains. Maybe its the usb port. Weird though. I'll restart and see if the different usb port fixes the internet issue.

You may need to create a udev rule for your phone to get usb debugging working correctly.
Create a rule /etc/udev/rules.d/50-android.rules
Put this in it:
SUBSYSTEM=="usb", SYSFS{idVendor}=="04e8", MODE="0666"
Or if you're lazy download and run this script I wrote to do it.
Edit: nvm looks like you got it working.

Good to know. The number bit is rather arbitrary, it just specifies priority.

I downloaded and installed the latest mac intel sdk 1.6 to link with my new rogers magic which is running 1.5. I unpacked everything and restarted my computer. I also enabled debugging on my Magic 3g. When I plug my Magic in, I open terminal in su (root) and once inside the folder, i try running the "adb devices" command however it doesnt work. I get "bash adb command not found". Any ideas from the mac users on here?
should I install the 1.5 sdk, not that it will make a difference since I cant even run the command in 1.6?
any ideas?

It's fine, it happens to all of us!
The other options is to add your <android_sdk>/tools folder to your path. That way, you don't need to cd into the folder and use ./adb...you can just use adb from anywhere in the prompt.
Google around but I believe you need to add a line like this:
export PATH=<android_sdk_location>/tools:$PATH
to your .profile file in your home directory.
where <android_sdk_location> is where you extracted the sdk.
Prerequisites have...
A:android-sdk-windows installed
B: (on your phone) go to menu>settings>applications>developement and make sure usb debugging is checked.
C: the file you are pushing must be placed in the tools folder of adb so if you are pushing file "build.prop.txt" this needs to be downloaded/copy and pasted in C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
1: go to run and type cmd (or just open your command prompt)
2: cd C:\android-sdk-windows\tools
3: adb remount
4: adb devices *if everything is set up right this should output a serial number*
5: adb push FFFFFFF.FFF /#####/###### *i hope my notes help here you need to put the file name in for the F(s) and in the pound signs you put the destination on the devices example adb push build.prop.txt /system/bin
6. repeat step 3 for multiple files
7. adb reboot this is how you finish

i had the same issue with something i was trying to push. I think you need to make sure you have exactly the same file name like caps and all. i was trying to push rootexplorer.apk and i got the same message but i then changed it to RootExplorer.apk and it work.(notice the difference in caps)

Make sure your have the drivers for your phone installed first of all.....Then, in your command prompt you have to change directories to the sdk (which you made harder by not installing to C:\
Try: cd Program Files\Android\android-sdk\tools
Then type: adb devices
That should return "xxxxxxdevice" connected....Then you know you have it set up.
Look in kyouko sig he has all the commands for adb

Flashing fresh ROM via ADB in Linux
Hello there.
M volumeUp and VolumeDown buttons are broken on my rooted Desire HD, so I cannot go through CWM any longer.
With regard to this post, I would ask the followings:
1) can this method be used to flash a new ROM (i.e. Coredroid, Leedroid..) without the need of those 2 buttons ?
2) My PC runs Linux. How does it work with this O.S. ?
Thanks

There is a thread somewhere on how to flash without a SD card and flashed using adb I believe, but don't take my word for it. Adb works fine with Linux, just have to set it up differently. Look in my sig and select the compile aosp on Ubuntu one and follow instructions on getting the USB set up.

not sure which one did the trick but I'll list the one's I tried
so \update.zip /sdcard/
.... /sdcard/update.zip
(note I put "/update.zip" thinking maybe it needed to be reallocated to the same file/destination

cd C:\wherever\your\sdk\is\located\
Lets start off with a simple question: do you have the sdk installed?
If you wish to use ADB first you have to run it from the directory that it is via the command prompt (start -> run -> type cmd). The easiest way to get it to work by just typing adb at the command prompt it by putting adb.exe in c:\windows.
Sorry if anything is slightly off, I use the Linux version of ADB.

I am sure this has been asked and answered, but I am not finding the answer. Anyone have a good method for backing up CWM backups to MAC? I know the CWM backups are stored at /data/media/clockworkmod which is not accessible to the MAC. I guess I could copy them to /data/media/0 and then access them from my mac. I guess I could also use ADB, but am looking for something simpler and less data manipulation. If this has been answered, please link me.
1. open terminal
2. ./adb pull /data/media{0, clockworkmod, twrp}
3. popcorn

Could you please write it in a more specific way? I'm a noob
I explain what I did:
I opened the terminal and I went in the folder were I keep the fastboot and adb etc..
I tried first with "./adb pull.." but nothing happened (aka: -bash: ./adb: No such file or directory)
Then I tried "./adb-mac pull.." and it didn't work either but I got the following long message:
"Android Debug Bridge version 1.0.31
-d - directs command to the only connected USB device
returns an error if more than one USB device is present.
-e - directs command to the only running emulator.
returns an error if more than one emulator is running.
-s <specific device> - directs command to the device or emulator with the given
serial number or qualifier. Overrides ANDROID_SERIAL
environment variable.
etc..."
I tried both commands at first with the mobile on, then I reset it and I went in recovery mode with the same results..
I'm going insane, I even tried to copy the whole folder of clockworkmod with my backup to another folder, but I couldn't see it with my computer.
I'm running mac OS X, I could eventually try also to my PC windows 7.. I just need to copy my backup to a safe place :crying:

the {0, clockworkmod, twrp} was to indicate that you can pull ONE of those folders at a time, or pull /data/media and get ALL of them at once
Does anyone here have any tools or guides on how I can achieve root on my Verizon LG G2 on my mac in terminal or via a tool like this one which seems to only be windows based: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
I don't have access to a windows machine at home that I can use to get root on my LG G2. I would really appreciate it if someone could make a guide (Text or Youtube even better) or a root tool like the one I linked to above. I'm not trying to be a mac snob which I'm not...I just do a lot of design work and photo editing and have used Mac's since I find that most of the studios I deal with all use them and I need to be able to exchange files that are compatible. I would really appreciate some help with regards to doing this on my MAC. Thanks for listening and I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
Thanks again.
I'm also looking for a Mac solution. I'm a long time Android user but have a Macbook. Hoping someone comes up with Mac version.
I used the method by thecubed in the development section. I unzipped it and followed the adb commands in the .bat file (right click that file, open with text editor). Don't forget the part about unplugging the USB cable and disabling and then enabling debugging.

Yes, all through terminal.

That would be great if you could post the specifics. Would really love to see how you did it.
WARNING! This is just what worked for me, and it's just the adb commands from thecubed's program. All credit goes to him, I didn't do any of this, just took the info from it.

You are not actually using his program, just the files and commands. Everything is done using Terminal and the Finder. You must have ADB working, look elsewhere for instructions on setting that up.
The files used here are the Verizon versions of the files, which I used for my phone. They are also specific to the OTA'd Verizon software, "11A" so there are different files if you haven't installed the OTA. These commands are correct, but the files being pushed aren't all the same between different carrier models and do not work with any other carrier. All the right stuff for other carriers is contained in thecubed's program.
The bold sections are files you need to send over adb, you can manually enter the file pathway or drag the files from finder into terminal after the adb commands (and before you type the destinations).
One more warning; if this is your first time using adb or terminal, I don't recommend this as your first try. It's super easy to screw something up in terminal.
Your phone must have developer options enabled and usb debugging on. plug in your phone via usb and select "Internet" and then "Ethernet."
adb push ytiruces_1a_vzw /sdcard/ytiruces_1a
Unplug usb, disable USB debugging and then re-enable it. Plug USB back in.
adb shell "mount -o remount,rw /system"
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell "chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su;chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su;sync;mount -o remount,ro /system"
adb install superuser.apk

You could only copy and paste if you have a Verizon g2 with the ota update, if it's any other version you'll be using different files than the ones I have used.
