Temperature Problem - Vibrant General

I've seen in several different threads people concerned about how hot their phones feel when running different roms, using the phone while charging, or during other activities. I experienced this myself on different occasions. I think i may have found the culprit. I remembered from my college years (long, long ago) that sometimes contacts oxidize. This oxidation increases resistance which results in heat generation. So I decided to do a simple experiment. I shut down my vibrant, pulled the battery and cleaned the contacts on the battery and the contacts on the phone with a pencil eraser. So far, no more temperature spikes. I haven't fully tested this but the few activities I've tried that use to generate temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit are now barely topping 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Something to consider.

What are the operating temperatures for the phone?

I was trying to turn on my phone yesterday while I was skiing and noticed that it couldn't go past the boot logo. Later, I turned on the phone when I was in the car about half an hour later. I did some research and I wasn't the only one that this was happening to: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/...t-is-the-operating-temperature-of-op2.421117/
But I tried looking online for any reference of operating temperatures and couldn't find any.
I live in Canada so I do experience some cold, not a lot just some. Room temperature is 23degrees therefore battery is around 23-26degrees idle.
CPU and GPU temps are around 33-36degrees. When I go outside usually the phone is in my pocket. The battery temperature can drop to 15 or sometimes even 10 (playing Pokemon go in the snow!) but never below 10. Lithium-ion batteries can go down 0degrees but I guess at that point the phone would stop working.
Its always good to keep a spare cover with you. Lithium-ion chemistry works best in room temperature when charged/discharged
(read here for more information http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/discharging_at_high_and_low_temperatures).
To keep/mimic this room temperature keep your phone in a case preferably a rubber case so that there is some heat (not too much just some) when you are skiing.
I hope that answers your question. The phone has about 5 (or more idk?) temperature sensors or thermisistors (bascially electrical resistors that change resistance with change in temperature). Your phone turned off as a security measure to make sure your battery is protected. As the article suggests operating a lower temperature can cause permanent battery degradation. Its the same reason Tesla owners see a slight decrease in mileage when operating the car in sub-zero ontario, canada weather. I guess thats a topic for another day
Wow. That is the most detailed post I've ever seen in a help thread. But I should note that I do that a case on my phone (Tudia) and it still happens. My relatives have a OPO and they seem to be okay in the cold temps

Anyone heard of a heat issue with this phone?

Making this out of curiosity sake. YMMV obviously individually, but was reading LG's Facebook (it came up as a sponsored link) and there's some people mentioning the phone getting so hot it burns. There is also mentions of glass cracking (presumably from heat?) and there's a picture of charger cable nuked on Imgur...
I almost never read FB but I need it for business. I only saw the comments when reading the LG sponsored links. I really only read XDA/reddit but seeing the amount of comments spread across several posts. I was more surprised to have not seen it here with the complaints of the camera lens cracking...
Anyway, here is the imgur post if you're curious:

The only thing I've noticed is when charging my phone gets massively hot. I thought my S5 was hot... but this one has been noticeable to the point it's almost a bit concerning. So it was weird I'd been noticing this lately and then to read the posts, I'm like... well, there might be something to that. But more curious if others had noticed anything peculiar than concerned atm... My laptop charger gets stupid hot too, but it hasn't melted yet so I guess it just depends on different variables.
It's only when charging though. It is too hot to hold when it's at it's worst so I have to "fan" it out. Anyway, they make these things so temperamental (literally) now...
Edit: Restructured my post
Multi-year lurker, first time posting.
I saw this photo yesterday and it's certainly a concern. I mean, it was so hot the plastic melted onto his skin However, the imgur's OP doesn't show what charger was being used.
I've only had the phone for a couple of days, but so far I've charged two of these LG G6 phones with a variety of chargers and cables. I've used the original charger, computers, car chargers, multi-port chargers, and a wireless charging pad (with both the original cable and 3rd party cables) and not once it's gotten anywhere near hot.
Just one thought - the only thing I can think of that would contribute to the crazy heat is the fast charging capabilities. That is one thing I have not done - use the included charger to charge the phone directly. The one thing I use it for is to power the wireless charging pad. So that might account for the fact that I haven't experienced this crazy heat you're experiencing. Charged my phone with the fast charger and it remained cool as a cucumber, even inside a full cover case. YMMV
I have left the fast charger supplied with the phone plugged in for hours. Never got hot. Software controls it. It will get warm as any processor does during use so any software using the processor can heat up the phone. I have not experienced any abnormal heat issues. I known the old Samsung wojkd darn near give me 3rd degree burns it would get so hot, but the G6 is the coolest running phone I've had in a long time. YMMV

The only time I notice it get warm on the back side of the phone while charging is while I'm using it at the same time. Not burn your hands warm, but toasty. I do leave it plugged in and turned on as a bedside clock but I haven't noticed it get hot just from that. It's only when I'm multitasking or watching YouTube or Netflix. But these fast chargers do concern me a bit. My Nexus 6 had micro usb fast charging and I noticed the battery life degraded horribly just after about 2 years of using the phone. That was the one thing I liked about the S7 I traded in for the G6 was that you were able to go into the system settings and turn off fast charge. That should be an option on all phones equipped with fast charge capabilities.

I charged my rooted phone in the cold and it went to 97% in the warmth

I went skiing yesterday and charged my phone in the cold with a battery bank to 80% cap since its rooted. I went to go warm up and checked my phone after it warmed up from the cold and it was at 97%. I wish i had the thought to screenshot, i thought it was something that i would have found a post on the internet by now and never bothered, nothing about it on the internet.
I have a gopro i ski with also and lithium ion batteries suck in the cold, they dont produce a strong charge and can seem dead if temps get too low. warm them up a bit and then they are alive again producing charge since the internals are at optimal temps. I frequently rotate a couple of batteries after they freeze. My theory is that my phone was cold, the battery was producing charge but a weak one in the cold so when the phone thought it was at 80% it really was a weak 100 charge but when the phone warmed up, since it wasnt charging and whatever stops it from charging beyond 80 couldnt stop it because there was no current to stop and it reported its true percentage. I'm positive I saw it at 97 and i've never done any fixes or mods to change the 80 problem so Im going to try and reproduce it again.

Battery temperature 0°C>

I have left my phone outside (-12°C/10°F) for 15 minutes and when I took it back, screen was "lagging" and it showed battery temperature = 0°C/32°F. I've turned out off for 5 minutes and warmed up to 8°C - screen was fine. In next 10 minutes battery reached 19°C.
Tell me, could I damage anything?

You should be safe, li-ion batteries can handle below zero temperatures, they just have trouble charging when too cold. Heat is generally a bigger issue than cold, as it degrades the batteries by speeding up the chemical process inside. The cold slows it down, basically preserving the battery.
As for other components, they should be fine too.

Leeco pro 727 won't start , no charging indicator

Running my Le pro 3 x727 on stock 21S ROM. The battery had been acting up since last couple of weeks , draining very fast in the day , going from 20% to 0% , randomly turning off and the phone was very sluggish.
Yesterday i charged it around 10% and it just died after. The charging indicator was on for a little while yesterday after i connected to my laptop and it was vibrating every 30 seconds. Can't get into recovery or fastboot and there is no more charging indicator as well. Tried several chargers and charging from laptop
Read through the other posts with others having similar issues. Is replacing the battery the only option ? would need to buy a heat gun as well I suppose.
Any other options to revive it ?
Its the battery and you need to buy a heat gun because Leeco used alot of glue.
So don't use a hair dryer or you will end up having to buy an LCD too.
Trust me on this, I have removed the lcd panel off many different phones using a hair dryer. Although I had experience with carefully using the hairdryer technique I still damaged the LCD!
You can find a heat gun at harbor freight for $8 the battery is $8.
Take pictures when you remove the heat shield, so you will know where the varied sized screws go.
Welcome to the bricked family. I have the same problem alongside with ALOT of users nowadays, and only like 1-2 fixed his phone from 8(i know at least 8).
I wish you the best, but low chances that you can fix it IF you try a new battery and it worked, that would be perfect.
