To me it happened many times. When RED button becomes non responsive, within minutes the whole phone freezes. I changed my radio (now TMOUS 2.15.xx) and ROM to Kumar's. Now, Red button is not responsive may be only once in weeks. So I believe, it could be ROM also. So worth a try before returning or selling.

Mine was different....all other buttons worked, hit the power button, touch screen went out...if i didnt use power button at all, screen was fine, stock rom also....the buttons should click sorta when [email protected] button didnt and was mushy so to speak....

i loaded an original wm5 rom on it (with radio, ceos and external) and now it's only showing big orange screen with radio version G and D lower...it won't load windows.i still want an original rom because on 6.1 when i access wi-fi manager it has a little error. hope getting better help from you guys than the hp 6915 forum.i was a little dissapointed of that community..
solved. 5 points for me
new problem. i installed tomal's rom and when i press the light buton (so the phone can wake when screen black) it goes into the backlight options, very annoying. in the original wm5 when you press that button it only lights the screen, not goingo into the backlight screen..

[Q] -sigh- g1 'rainbow screen' - EXPERIENCED USER(S) please.

i'm sure this has been done to death, but, through my searching, i haven't found an actual concrete solution.
i purchased a g1, knowing that it was stuck at the rainbow screen. i thought it'd be an easy fix, but, in my case, it seems not. i'm a uk user, so have flashed the rc7 update, and NOT the 29 one. yes, i pressed the camera button, and THEN the power button, whilst the g1 was turned off. once successfully flashed/completed, i press the 'action'/trackball key, take the battery out, and turn the phone on, only to see that the rainbow screen is STILL there.
what you might need to know:
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-1.22.12.29
Sep 2 2008
Serial0
so, if anyone has a full-proof solution that will get my g1 working again, i'll be extremely grateful. if not, i'll put it on e-bay. is it possible that my g1 is permanently bricked?
How about NOT pressing the trackball?
However note that pressing the trackball during bootup SHOULD put the thing into BLUELIGHT mode (debug console).
Typically, if it turns on straight into the bootloader, it means that your CAMERA or BACK button is stuck. Try pressing each of those buttons a few times and then turning it on again. If not, you may need to disassemble.
but, i mean, once the phone says Update Complete
UPDATE SUCCESS,press action (trackball) key, that's when i press the trackball key, as it tells me to. the camera and back buttons certainly don't feel stuck, ...

He is right, if it boots into bootloader (rainbow screen) that means your camera button is stuck, even if it doesn't feel like it.
i just took apart my htc dream... im experience a similar problem.... i measure the ohms on the switch for the camera button, open, it shows about half contiunity on my multimeter(analog), and when the button is pressed, it registers a full short, as it should, on both sides of the switch. I will try unsoldering the camera button at some point tomorrow, and will try to post my results.
does anyone know if those switches are meant to be completely open when not pressed??
EDIT: will be heading out to my job in the next hour to use the hot air station to remove the camera button, and clean up the contacts on the board... if this doesnt work, does anyone else have any other ideas??

ok, so i just unsoldered the camera button off the main board, and it still comes up to the bootloader.... what next?? ive flashed the dreaimg.nbh file, and wiped the phone. i can press the home and pwr button and get the recovery menu, but even there, flashing anything *.zip doesnt make a difference... ideas now??
EDIT:So i just got another g1 with a cracked screen... i switched out the mainboard. with a different mainboard that worked from a different phone, it still came up to the bootloader screen... i then switched the buttons, not the camera button, ironically, the other buttons.. i switched the whole front plate(send, home, back, end, menu buttons/trackball panel). now the original mainboard works fine... just no camera button cuz my hot air station at work killed the button. try that and let us know here. see if that works for you....
EDIT2: Heres a thread that i just opened with that last explaination, as well as a story to how my day preceded with this phone... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=781143 enjoy!

[Q] touchscreen stops working after pressing power button

since yesterday, i have this nasty problem with my touchscreen. when i press the power button to wake the phone, or to get into the power-menu, the touchscreen stops working. this does no happen if i press any other button.
sometimes, i can use the phone again if i wait until the screen turns off and then wake it up by pressing any other button, but most of the time i need to pull out the battery and restart the phone. even when i pull out the battery, the screen won't work sometimes, and i have to restart the phone again.
when i first experienced this problem, i was using the nexushd2 v2.0 rom, i then updated to the v2.1, which didn't help. i tried reinstalling the rom, wiping the /data/ , the cache and the dalvik cache (multiple times) and eventually changed to the typhoon cm7 rom (with repartitioning and reinstalling the magldr), the problem is still there.
the phone did never get wet, fall down, or anything the like. pulling out the sd card makes no difference.
i hope someone can help me there
May be it´s a hardware problem, some HD2 have it.
You can test it, if you go back to windows.
its the good old digitizer its right under the power button press the end button hard and it should work again but if you press it again it will corrupt use softkey or remap your hardware buttons

Lol, I was about to do that
@OP, in future please use the search button before posting. There are far too many threads in this forum with exactly the same issue as Kamerius has just proved, so why couldn't you save both us and yourself some time and search first? Anyway, what you have is a digitizer issue, but a quick temporary solution is to simply press as hard as you physically can on the end call/power button. The screen should work after that. Use a button remapper or some sort of widget to enable you to use the phone without ever touching the end call button, and make sure to use other buttons to wake the screen.

i have the same problem with the endkey but with the rom in my sig
it actually has a softkey button that can be setup with a power softkey ..longpress on the softkey and it pulls up the power menu
just like it would do if you used the hardware power button
Yeah I thought there were softkey power buttons but I wasn't sure and I'm on my phone so couldn't be arsed to search

I am facing the same issue except no matter how hard I press the red button....LCD doesn't works. I have even replaced the thin metal strip which rests under hardware buttons.
Anyone?
Exactly, the same issue started to happen yesterday!!!

[Q] Touchscreen not working on lock and reset screens

In the last couple of weeks, when the pattern lock screen is displayed, it intermittently doesn't accept touch input. If I power off and on the screen quickly, it then accepts touch input fine.
Similarly, if I press and hold the power button (with the phone on), it brings up a "Phone Options" screen, with options for Silent, Airplane, Profile, Reboot and Power Off. Touch input does not work at all on this screen. I'm working around this by using the Quick Boot app.
Otherwise, touch input works fine, so I don't think it's a hardware problem.
I've seen something similar when Google Nav gets in front of the lock screen. Touch doesn't work until I power off and on the screen, and enter the lock pattern. Could something invisible be getting in front of the lock and power screens?
Using Pongster's HyperDroid-GBX-v12 (2.3.3).
Hey there,
Maybe the ROM h doesnt function properly on your device. Try shifting to another rom. All are equally amazing. If you do not want to shift, try running task29 and start the process all over again

Have you read the thread about the unresponsive touchscreen, where pressing hard on the end call button fixes the screen touch? I assume your problem is in essence the same; once you press it hard enough to actually unlock the screen the touch works fine.

That probably is what the problem is. Btw to everyone, I haven't noticed a difference in pressing it really hard, I noticed that pressing it a lot of times does the trick

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think it's the ROM, been using GBX-v12 since it was released, and previous versions before that.
The symptoms do seem similar to the other thread, but others report it on many screens. I only get it on the lock and reset/power screen. Otherwise, it works fine. However, those screen are brought up after pressing the power key ...
I suppose if it is hardware, then it's likely that cable issue. If it's software, then a reset should clear it, so I might try an ICS ROM from scratch first.

I guess i shoulda commented that how my digitizer began acting, it only did it while in the power menu but after a couple days it started doing it while just hitting the power button to put it to sleep, so i remapped my green phone key to be the power button

Thanks for the tip. You're right about the symptoms getting worse, it now occasionally stops working on other screen
I'm using any button but power to turn on the phone. To turn it off I've added "Go to sleep" to the notification widget bar, which I assume is the same as pressing power??
Not quite as user friendly and sometimes I forget not to use power off, but it'll do for now!

Yes that will work! I used it cause I got lazy and didn't feel like changing the key file but it's much easier to use the green call key instead of the notification power widget

Try this:
Lock the screen normally, screen turns off.
To turn it on again by pressing any other screen buttons other than the power button.
I found that if I do it this way, the screen runs normal.

Back button doesn't work.

Hello everyone! I have few problems with my phone.
First one is that sometime the back button doesn't work. In the recovery in the option which alllows to test button all buttons works fine.
And also when the back button doesn't work it's like the screen calibration is not good. For example in the dialer if i press the number 1 button it doesn't work but if i press the number 3 button it works but it's recognized as the button number 1 by the phone.
I'm actually on stock 2.1 rom before my last rom was SDSL 2.0
If somebody can help me thanks!

try to wipe data/factory reset. after this you go to settings and calibrate it (2.1 can do it, can't it ? )
Ok I'll try this. And yes stock version have screen calibrration but already tried this few time but it doesn't work.
Thanks for helping!
Edit: Tried this but still not working.
Could be hardware issue like mine. Screen calibration is very off and back button is not working when I press it it does not respond then when I press any part of the bottom half of my screen it opens the menu option? ??!?!?!?!?

Our problem is quiet similar. If it's a hardware issue I think we can't do anything
yeah lg??
lg?
Send to LG service
No I don't think I'll send it to LG Service because I think it will take a month to get it back. Otherwise I'll change my phone in few month so I'll do with it.
Thanks for helping!
Yep just like me hold on a few more weeks ..then change phone
Similar issue with BRAND NEW P-880
Back button works, but no LED behind it. Never lights up. Home and Menu light up, but not the back. Had the exact same problem with one I bought in Taiwan, also brand new. I think there's a batch of these that are bad and being sold. This one I just got off Amazon.
One obscure thread I found says it's a bad USB port/cable for the light issue.
