[Q] android boot short cut disappeared - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Don't know how or why but my HD2 was running fine prior to reboot. Now my little Android logo that I would normally select has disappeared. I can easily choose to start Haret without an Icon in file manager. It starts the boot process. I even get the flash and the crazy lines. Rather than boot Android though it restarts and gives me "sh.tdows".Here is what is on my sd card now when I look in file manager. I also cannot get my windows xp computer service pack 2 to read the hd2 when I plug it in so I can access the sd card like a drive? Obviously I've read the tutorials but I can't find what I'm missing.

Mounting SD card's FAT32 partition from console.

First of all, I am running Cyanogen Mod 4.2.15.1, with RA recovery v1.52R and I have a properly partitioned SD card for apps2sd.
My question/problem is this:
I have 2 SD cards, the first one I have setup to use regularly with my phone, and is partitioned properly for apps2sd. The second one I have formatted and setup as a ubuntu USB boot disk.
My intention is this, whenever I need to use a random computer, at work or friends house, etc, it would be super if I could shut my phone down, switch to my boot SD card, boot into recovery, enable the USB-Mass Storage option, and boot the computer from USB into Ubuntu. I have the SD card set up with a persistence file so I can even save stuff in my linux environment. This is all fine and dandy, and works well. It's actually really cool to have a bootable linux environment right in my pocket with me everywhere I go...
To take it to the next level, I would like to be able to actually boot my phone, so it doesn't have to sit in recovery while I'm using the computer. This way I can even turn on "Wireless Tether for Root Users" and have Ubuntu with network on the go. I've tried partitioning my SD card, putting my apps on it, and using the FAT32 partition for the Ubuntu boot disk, The only problem with this is, I can't make the FAT32 partition available to the computer before it is plugged in. (I have to mount it when the notification pops up, which is usually too late) So I figured I will enable USB-MS from RA Recovery, let it boot to Ubuntu, and once it's loaded, I'll reboot my phone, and mount again in android, then continue using the computer, but I think because the card is partitioned, BIOS isn't recognizing it as a boot drive.
So how do I mount the FAT32 partition from inside Cyanogen's 4.2.15.1 Mod? (or even from recovery?) before the computer is even connected? I need it to be available right when the computer turns on.
Any suggestions would be super, I love the idea that I can carry around a linux distro with me everywhere I go, especially coupled with a wireless connection.
Thank you!

[Q] Android map problem, and usb drive.

I have 2 questions I've searched... but couldn't find anything.
1) Every time i load up android froyostone sense, it works like a charm. But after shutting down, rebooting android. It makes the Android map on my SD card, when i look in windows file manager. So i have to delete it every time in windows mobile to boot android. It pisses me off, what can i do about it ?
2) When i connect my HD2 with usb on my pc with android. I hear the beep beep that it connects, but the drive isn't appearing. I've read some post about unmount but it didn't do anything.
Would be really appreciated if someone can answer me. This are my only 2 problems i couldn't solve my self. I will donate the devs. If i get everything working of course.
Thanks!
1. Put Android in the Android map?
2. The USB Drive doesn't work in the current Android versions for the HD2. If you have read the first topics, it says it doesn't work. It only works if you use a program which uses the debug mode. Like Droid Explorer.
I don't know what you mean by Android map...
My mount USB is working for some reason, I just used it again, don't know why it works now.
Android folder he is talking about. That is because the build of froyo you are using requires you to install it on the phone in the android folder. When you extract the froyo build it is in an android folder. Copy that folder and the contents onto the root of the storage card. If you just copy the files you will get a rootfs error on your second boot of android.
Not all android builds have working USB for mass storage.
It is definitely helpful when you post a question to mention what android build you have installed. Otherwise you will get different answers because of the many builds.
my usb storage works but then it doesnt. when i connect my phone it gives me the option for a disk drive. when i transfer files to the phone via this disk drive they dissapear.
once rebooted they turn into fsck001.rec files.
right now the best way to transfer files is to reboot into wm.
ok, moved you guys over to general. and also you may want to run you're question in the thread you got the rom in.

[Q] Files i transferred to SDCard only show after reboot

Hey there,
after hours of searching through several threads and forums, im finally trying to post a question concerning my problem ^^. Is it a common problem that i need to restart / reboot my phone, when i want files i transferred to show up in the file manager ? Also when im trying to delete files, my file manager (ES File Manager) still shows them being existent on my phone.
Before i installed my Android Build i completely cleared up my SD Card, and reformated it (Sandisk 16GB).
I already tried different datatypes and different file managers (ASTRO and ES FM)
Im Using ChuckyRom 23134 Lite
with shubCraft 1.5
OS on my PC is Win 7 64bit.
im connecting my HD2 with a standard usb cable
Hope you can help me out... totally annoying that i need to get a restart before i can use my copied .apk's
update: now that last time i transferred and rebooted it got even more weird. all the changes i made had no effect. the sd card completely restored itself. my files are gone, and even one delete i did (for test purposes) has been undone
I have tried to upload file on both windows xp and 7. I even tried Linux. All exhibit the problem of files available only after reboot.
UPDATE: If you can upload items via bluetooth the system sees the file instantly (even in Astro).

This is a common problem everyone having now...USB transfer is not stable now...even,you can find the file in your SD card.that might show 0byte(corrupted)...if you are lucky, you can open that file(maybe0.000001%)
So,the best way to transfer files from PC to android phone is use android explorer...which supports drag and drop, and no need to unmount your SD...
download it here...
hey mate, dont open a new thread because of one question next time...and try to read the comment by users or instruction by rom chefs...DARKSTONE already emntioned this case few times before...because we boot android from SD card, and if you try to copy file to SD card again...it'll corrupt...
Cheers...

Android works only after first boot?

I have installed many different android versions , all are working good but when i reboot and go back to android command line says "/bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off" and and under that text "/# [52.9114021 ACR=3107 FL1256 RAAC=60" what that means ? how i can boot android many times without allways installing android again... before /bin/sh: can't access tty; job control turned off it says mount: mounting/dev/block/loop0 on /data failed: invalid argument Failed failed to mount /data
When you start Android from SD card with Haret it creates an Android folder for cache and etc. When you reboot your phone and want to start Android again delete the Android folder from the SD card before you do it and it works fine again.
i just have one android folder and it has haret.exe and other files inside
One solution (not sure if it will work in your case - has been working perfectly for me) don't copy the files in the root - instead make a folder e.g AndroidTest and copy everything inside this folder. You have to change your startup.txt to reflect this change as followings:
set cmdline "rel_path=AndroidTest"
Now start your clrcad and haret.exe from within this folder.
OK , i found the problem ... i think , i have 32GB memory card (Sandisk) and it did not work , then i tried small 2GB (nokia) card and its working good ! 32GB has really slow writing speed but i dont know is that the problem...
i've noticed i can NEVER reboot. i'm gonna try deleting the android folder but that is kind of retarded... this seriously keeps me from playing with it.
in my experience if i try to reboot it will fsck forever on the sd card
is there a preferred method to restart the phone without corrupting the sd card ?
hi!
hi friend,
after you first reboot. if your back in winmo use your file explorer and explore your sd card. look for the folder name android and just delete.its a bug.
you are entirely correct. i tried it but didnt post back. that was the problem. i can successfully reboot android now! thank you
I tried this. I also have the gen y dualboot installed on my device. After I deleted the android folder and tried to reboot android, some where in the command line it says "cannot create android folder" then scrolls down and says rebooting in...5, 4, 3, etc. and it just restarts my phone, and doesnt load android. can someone help me?

[Q] write protected

I am att i337 S4 MDL w/ TWRP 2.5.0.2 running GoldenEye with no add ons.
Happy.
Now I'm curious where this "write protected" originates. The desktop computer runs Windows 7.
When I plug my phone into the computer I can view files in the phone and the SD card in the phone, using windows explorer. I can also copy files from the handset to the computer.
But it won't let me copy anything from the computer to the phone. It says it's "write protected". I'm not sure if it's a setting on the computer or a setting on the phone.
And "search" for this forum is temporarily disabled.
Anyone know of this particular calamity?
fixed thanks to Scott14719
I powered down and then removed the Micro SD, and when I powered back up, it showed that cool padlock icon with the label "Custom" screen during boot up. I hadn't seen that screen on boot up since I used Casual to get a TWRP recovery.
I tethered the handset to the Desktop and opened the windows explorer. Obviously it just showed phone this time, instead of phone and card. I tested copying files and it worked fine, the "write protected" error was gone.
I unhooked, powered down, put the micro SD card back in, powered up and noted the boot up screen was back to normal. Tethered up again and voila! Files can be written to the phone and or the card and no more "write protected" error.
Funny little fluke. Problem solved. Curiosity remains.
