Dell Streak unlocked from Best Buy? - Streak 5 General

Is the Dell Streak unlocked from Best Buy or tied down to AT&T if I get it for full price? Contemplating this route for sure but not if it is locked to AT&T.

I doubt they're selling them unlocked, but people have been reporting the unlocking procedure to be pretty painless as of late (call ATT, tell them you're travelling abroad and want to use local sim cards, unlocked in less than five minutes).

Awesome. I will try that method. Of course, I feel that this flagship should have been unlocked in the first place.
Thanks.

I think you have to wait for 30 days or so because accordingly to dell you will not be able to return your phone if you unlock it within 30 day period

Sim Unlock the Tmobile Wing...

Ive got an extra Wing I want to use on Cingular. Anyway to sim unlock this thing easily?
You can just call TMobile Customer service (611) and request the unlocking code and procedure. They will send it to you as long as you have been with them for awhile. Just tell th e CS you need to travel overseas.
http://cgi.ebay.com/UNLOCK-T-MOBILE...ryZ43312QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
here is a $25 unlock offer
actually you dont have to be a tmobile customer. all you have to do is buy the phone. its stated under the DRMA(digital rights millenium act) that they have to unlock the phone at the customers request.
So how can they enforce a 90 day minimum wait after start of contract?
Or can they?
T-Mobile unlocked
I called T-Mobile yesterday, asked them to unlock my Wing. They took my phone info (IMEI) and today I got an email with the unlock code. Just put in a Cingular Sim put the code and ready to go. the best way to do it. I also have a T-mobile MDA and because I was willing to do testing with this device I used the steps to unlocked in Wizards forums. It worked excellent...
Just call T-mobile...The best way to go.
AT&T gives subsidy codes over the phone.. T-Mobile has a 24 turn around time.. That's what I'm trying to figure out why
My relative was told to wait 90 days, no exceptions...
An alternative is :
www.imei-check.co.uk
I've heard mixed reviews about that site ... so use at your own risk.
The link from ebay is flaunting a much lower price.
Anyone try them yet? Any info? Would really be a pain to wait 3 month...

I'm sorry but that is completely wrong.
Have you used this item on Ebay? Did it well ?
Wind didn't allow an unlock, a 30 dollar service was used...
Not sure which one...
I just sim unlocked my wing. I called about it on Sunday and I got the unlock code on Wednesday (I got the confirmation email on Monday, but it said they had to wait for HTC).

Price @ T-Mobile! Really want to buy! Your opinion please...

Hey everyone, I hope this is useful for anyone else looking for the HD2 and are currently in a long term contract.
On T-mobile's tariff list, there is the HTC HD2 on a 18 month contract @ £13.50 (plus the phone cost of £195.73)
£13.50 x 18 = £243
£243 + £195.73 = £438.73
Currently that is cheaper than buying it SIM Free, and I can pay a good half of it, over 18 months. Does this sound good, or am I missing something here?
I am currently on a 24 month Orange Contract with a HTC Touch HD (Blackstone), it only started in January and it is my main contract with 800 Minutes, Internet, etc, etc, So i won't be using the T-Mobile SIM.
1. Is this worth doing? Or is it too much hassle and I am better of getting it SIM free?
2. Will the Phone from T-Mobile be Unlocked? (Apparently O2's HD2 are), if not, Can it be unlocked?
3. Will I enjoy this phone? I use a Touch HD, with a custom ROM, can't fault it, love the phone, love the keyboard, I am a long time WinMo user.
Thanks very much.
Any assistance will be much appreciated!
T-Mobile phones are nearly always locked and various reports here from people who've got one directly from T-Mobile have said that the HD2 from them is locked.
The ones supplied by O2 are also locked.
Both are very lightly branded by software. Externally there is no operator branding.
So you must factor in the price of unlocking the handset (around €22) as well as the fact that you'll have a HD2 with a CID of a branded phone.
I'm sure it's possible to buy one sim-free and unbranded from various places for around the same price of £460 (price of T-Mobile inc. contract + unlock fee), but I suppose the 'interest-free' way of doing it may appeal to you.
I've also heard that the o2 ones are locked but o2 will happily unlock it for you, they even have a link on their site for doing so apparently..
I really appreciate your comments, its been really helpful.
I will keep looking around for a HD2 SIM Free.
Any unlocking solutions? Like the one you have referred to as being 22 euros?
I had a look at o2's website, I can't seem to find the HD2 on their website, even then, they are not tariffs which look like they will be cheaper in the long run, oh well.
Thanks very much again.

The problem is no one has actually had their HD2 unlocked by O2 for free so far. There's been no report of it happening on this forum at all. Someone from here said that they rang O2 and they said that they would unlock, but they'd have to wait 28 days and pay £15. Until it's been verified by a member on here that O2 will unlock via that link (and maybe even for free) it's just hearsay.
The link to get a HD2 unlocked for €22 is:

Some members here have used this service so should be good/safe to use.

that is exactly my story too lol, had mine delivered from mobiles.co.uk on monday on a voda contract, 30 quid a month and half price for 6 months, but using my orange sim as got 8 months left on the contract!
I had this thought the other day about buying with a contract, if it was about the same price, as a way of cheap financing (no interest!). But, I am in the U.S. I'm thinking they would probably flag this somehow when the billing address shows up as being in the U.S.? ... What do y'all think?

You can only get a contract with a carrier in your country of residence! They'd have a hard time recovering debt if you decided not to pay 3000 miles away lol

I work for O2 and we had an internal announcement saying that they would unlock contract phones for free, although as everyone has been told it can take 28 days to receive the instructions. They should only be charging you £15 if you want to unlock a pay as you go phone. If you don't mind the wait then it's probably worth doing it through the link. That said it's a service they only launched a few weeks ago, so i wouldn't be surprised if there are a few issues initially.
Getting back on topic i'd say you would be better off getting it from T-Mobile rather than O2 if you are looking for the cheapest deal.
I Got mine from www.onestopphoneshop.co.uk It is sim unlocked and a choice of networks. Best of all they pick up the phone when you try to contact them! unlike mobiles.co.uk and mobile phone direct. I Dont like 18 month contracts as new phones are released to often. My 12 month contract with vodafone cost £540 total.

Generally O2 phones purchased on contract are unlocked from the off. The only exception to this was the iPhone (until recently anyway).
I know some people on the O2 Simplicity (sim only rolling contract) tarriff who managed to buy the HD2 'outright' but they came locked to O2. How does that work for unlocking purposes - will O2 still unlock for free? I mean it's entirely possible that they can leave almost immediately after obtaining the unlock code.
you're correct pretty much all o2 phones on contract are unlocked apart from the iphone and palm pre. Not sure about those who got the HD2 outright from O2, i'd assume they would still unlock it for free as these people have paid to get the phone outright.
Ah this has been most helpful!
I can't wait to order now, I am about to soon put my Touch HD on ebay, shove my Orange SIM card in an old 8310 lol until the T-mobile HD2 arrives! Can't wait!
Thanks a lot everyone for your input! I hope I can get it unlocked soon after it arrives too.

Nexus One less than 14 days old return - rooted

Hello all...this is my first post to this amazing forum. I am a current T-Mobile N1 owner and I have been for 8 days now. I came to the N1 from an iPhone 3GS and I must say, I am very very impressed. However, due to my impatience to wait for this device, I purchased the T-Mobile Unlocked version 8 days ago and started a t-mobile flex no contract plan because I still have a contract with AT&T under a family plan (dropped the data plan by giving them some oldass flip phone IMEI but still have the line active). Much to my dismay, Google released the AT&T version of the N1....so my question...since my phone is less than 14 days old, do u think i would b good to return and trade for the AT&T version, i realize there is the $45 dollar restock fee which i am willing to part with BUUUT....my T-Mo N1 is rooted....so am i pretty much out of luck? any input will be greatly appreciated
Sadly, you are more than likely SOL. Once you unlocked the boot loader you voided all warranties and return policies... HTC has thus far been pretty good about honoring hardware warranties on unlocked bootloader phones, but I don't see anyway Google would do a return.

[Q] want to buy streak

i wanted to buy the dell streak today nline. I am from chile and wanted to order it from dell.com. it ask for a USA shipping address which i don´t have, i entered my mothers address from tennessee and tried paying with paypal and again i couldn´t because the paypal account is from chile. How can i Buyt the phone?!
I am no looking at dell streaks in ebay but i´m not sure if they will be ok.
What should i do?
I was in the same predicament. I live in Canada and didn't have a credit card with an american address, so I went the Ebay route. I was trying to avoid it at all costs but it worked out in the end, and I'm enjoying my Streak.
good to hear that, i just ordered one from ebay also, it said its unopened, sealed box. Although it´s not unlocked, i´ll try to get the unlock code from at&t and if that doesn´t work i´ll get a rebel sim
was gunna say i bet you could pay somebody else to order it for you and ship it to Tennessee but i see youve already ordered one...
I'm about to order one online too, I'm in the US so dell.com is ok, especially since they have a "Get a $100 gift card with the purchase of a Streak" (you can't use it right away though so it's not very convenient for the car/home dock)...
What I don't like is the "For use on AT&T network only" - makes no sense they should sell a locked version with no plan for $549.99! Has anyone bought one like that and they got an unlock code from AT&T ?
the one i got from ebay was locked to at&t aslo, as soon as i got it i called at&t and told them i had a dell dtreak and needed the unlock code, the rep asked for my imei and 30 seconds laer gave my unlock code. the whole call didn´t last more than 5 minutes.
That's nice, are you an AT&T customer? Someone said you had to have an account with them "in good standing".
If anyone knows about the restocking fees from Dell on a Streak I'd be interested, in case I order it and don't like it ;-)
no, im not an AT6T customer. I live in Chile and told them that also when i called.

How to sim unlock galaxy s5?

How to....
BUMP.... Same question?
NOTE: this is a legal and legitimate question
I travel A LOT and have a box of 20 different (ACTIVE) sim cards, most places don't support AT&T (my US carrier) plus I want to keep the same foreign number that I had for the past 5 years. Anyway, I have a legitimate need and as such the carrier will unlock but their rules have apparently gotten really strict. [I flew to Canada when I bought my iPhone4 so as not to deal with this.]
T-Mobile requires 40 days of service or will unlock for military after the grace period (14 days) is over
AT&T requires 5 months of service
It just not right! Especially when I paid $720 for my phone -- the no contract price from TMobile ($660) plus 10% California tax.
I even paid this service (http://www.unlock-code-world.com) to unlock my phone and they came back after 2 days and said they couldn't do it. So, don't go to them for S5 although their price was REALLY good ($5.99).
So, what's a guy to do?
My plan is to return my phone to TMobile today and rebuy an AT&T one and try their customer service because I got no where with TMobile, even after requesting a supervisor.
I'd actually like to know this myself.
I don't want to root or flash any firmware, which is why I'd like to buy from the UK (as I've always had their firmware previously)
Happy to pay for an unlock code if that's the way to go, but are they reputable?
If you buy the phone from a online store (not a service provider) it will be unlocked. If you buy it under contract then it will be locked to the Network, at least Vodafone is.
I have tried to get an unlock code but the IMEI numbers are not in the databases yet. Most places online selling these are reputable and you get the code pretty quickly via e-mail, well if they can provide it that is.
For my phone, even Vodafone did not have the unlock code so have had to go back to Samsung for it.

If you paid full price call customer care and tell them that you need a sim unlock code for your phone I had my note 3 for a week not paid in full but on the EIP and I've been a long time customer I told them what I needed and they took my IMEI and emailed me back with an unlock code within 24 hours, they will do it for you easily since your phone is paid for trust me.

Not TMobile -- I called multiple times and even waited for a supervisor. PLUS multiple visits to the store.
I bought another one from AT&T yesterday and can hopefully get my money back from T-Mobile without a restocking fee (which I just learned about).
My whole S5 purchase has been quite a nightmare but the phone is cool.
Recapping...
Pre-ordered from Radio Shack to save $50 but their price was $100 more than AT&T so that was not good -- also forced to buy a $50 nonrefundable gift card in order to get the coupon. Then, they tell me later that the $50 coupon was only for people who bought plans but I clearly said that I wanted to pay full price and have no contract. [ Going back to talk to manager there to try and get them to give me my $50 deposit back. ]
Bought a phone from TMo for $720 (with tax) and they salesman told me it was unlocked. Multiple calls to TMobile, etc. no luck. [Going back to return that phone today.]
Bought the phone from AT&T yesterday only to find that I can't root it -- yes, they have a $35 restocking fee. Unlocking from them requires all these things but I'm hopeful that I can at least have that part.
TMo version (G900T) could be rooted -- and mine was so I'm hoping they miss that when I return it. AT&T version (G900A) has a locked bootloader so my understanding is that it will not ever be unlocked by the simple Chainfire method.

They said they'd unlock but I had to be a customer for 40 days -- no, I wasn't previously a customer. 40 days won't work for me because I have an AT&T GoPhone plan while in the US and I'm leaving this weekend. Besides, I didn't want to subscribe to the TMobile one which is waaaaay more expensive.
I spent $40 for two phones for 5 months while in the US. My wife and I don't talk/text a lot and I use Skype out for all my voice calls. It also seems that I always have Wifi in SoCal -- especially since I get my home internet from Time Warner and they give free wifi coverage.
$0.10 per minute and $0.20 per SMS and only when you use it. :good:

I think they are afraid that if they give you an unlock code and you unlock the phone then you will sell it, I think that was included in my conversation with customer support when I requested my unlock code but I assured them that was not my intentions, also being a customer for at least 40 days would makes sense, because I believe that I did read that in the support section for unlocking prerequisites, I wish I could help you but it seems the only method would be to buy an unlock code which I hear is a fast process and I've seen them advertized pretty cheap under $30.00 US, wich is not bad because if you ever decide to sell it, unlocked device's are always worth more.

Either all IMEI unlock codes have now been released to all databases or these are the only guys that have them at the moment. I tried a couple of online places last week and they did not have the unlock codes.

Should do! Try it, if they cannot provide an unlock code they will refund you straight away.
I usually use this site: http://unlockphonenetwork.com/
They always when i had a phone to unlock they did it flawlessly.
I had a AT&T phone and needed to get it unlocked, found it cheaper then anywhere else.
Cellunlocker.net sells it for 29.99$
Unlockthaphone.com 34.99$
and they sell it for 24.99$ which is awesome!
