hi,
anyone have an idea how i van make a videocall with frontcams between my wife's nokia5800 and my streak using wifi?
Using fring
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
Yup Fring seems to work alot better on 2.2 Froyo. When I tested it on 2.1 it was too laggy.
Any other app to handle frontcam?

are you experiencing low speaker audio on fring? my business partner and I bought two Streaks for our business and are experiencing extremely low audio when using fring.
It is a bit choppy between my streak and my wife nokia, but the audio was not bad.

Toggle between headphone and speaker...Upon connection it defaults to headphone no matter what I have selected...The toggling fixes the problem...

How does it work with the Epic? Can you initiate a video call straight from the dialer? A lot of phones my friends would get unlocked from europe all had front facing cams. Like the e75 i think.
Or is video calling only available with qik? Yuk.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Only works through Qik I think.
Fring works well. You have to initiate within the fring app but since it runs in the background you can always receive. Qik never works for me.

Ugh. So i have to sign upto fring and qik...thays not bad...but will i be able to videocall non-fring/qik users?
Skype, for example? Or msn video chat?

I was not able to video chat with aim or google talk... it said it was not supported..
for those of you that have had issues with qik for the epic, the fix is to goto the app store and download qik for htc evo. This came from there help desk.
Out of the box qik would always force reset on me, sometimes it would work for outgoing vid connect but for the most part it would always crash when accessing the address list or imitating a call.
They suggested the build for the evo since you can not remove the bundled version. Well it worked and it seems much more snappy.
I've searched like mad, and I haven't found any way to video chat with any PC clients, especially Skype. If anyone finds one, let me know, but as far as my knowledge goes there's no way to video chat with users of anything besides Fring and Qik, which makes it nearly useless to me.
Try using Tango
Anyone get the video chat feature working (not a flashed version of Google's 2.3.4 gTalk)?

+1 but have only used calling my wifes SgS2
Well, Skype was just purchased by Microsoft for 8.5 Billion, so lets see what happens to Skype having FFC support for Android... If its on the roadmap, it will still see the light of day but for how long until M$ starts to mess with Skype?
Are you guys calling other SGSII only?

I used qik and called my friend on his iphone 4
And I am sure you looked Crystal Clear while he looked "OK"...
Does anyone know of an Android video chat app that can connect to Live Messenger / Video Kinect? I'd really like to try video chatting with my daughter through the Xbox once I get the SGS2.

YAYY! At last! The waiting is over...
no sound when video
Hi Folks !
Have you tried Skype w/video in your Atrix ?
Works Ok ?
I tried mine this morning, but when I start video, just hear noise and the other party seems to hear a lot of noise too...
The video works Ok, but kills audio...
When I make audio only calls, it works like a charm.
I see an update in the future

I second that. Made a call just now, the other person got feed back and noise.
Also, the video and whole skype interface is really not slick at all. Very laggy all round. I'll be sticking to Google Talk for now. Once they solve rhese issues i'll be happy and so will the other half as I can then Skype video her in the car instead!

how i hate those guys. this app is free...so there is no running version. that is the way of microsoft. it is really fantastic how a company like ms is not able to keep good software running.
so in my opinion there will be no finally. would like to use gtalk but lovly motorola do no want to oupdate the european atrix. great move too. a bit disciminating....the rest of the world has it, but there has to be a reason...because moto is great.
It's the same for me, video works great but audio is very noisy and doesn't work.
Can someone try a videocall with headphones? I can't beacause don't own it.
Skype with ear buds worked better. The person on other end had much less static. Could actually understand me.

I'm very happy with the skype update for Atrix. All I can say is a big **** ya on the video quality! I have been using Google Talk/Qik since I got the phone but with horrible quality over the network and wifi...
I haven't had a issue with the sound on either end of the calls yet but I'll have to try the headphones next time maybe when I'm out somewhere or something.
So go skype... about damn time.

Did the sound test call without headphones and couldn't understand a word. With headphones the sound great.
I, honestly notice almost the same call quality as I have on my laptop, if not better? Same for the video, truth is I've only used it over wifi.

Can we use the speaker phone while using the front facing camera? It doesn't make sense to talk with the handset by the ear while using the front facing camera. Am I missing something here? I wasn't getting the speakerphone option.
I have two 7.7 tabs with the same version of Skype installed. Can somebody please explain why the video display is so small on one and large on the other, see pics below. I really don't understand and can't get any answers..makes no sense.

I have the P6810 but ran into the same problem in Skype. I have the Skype version downloaded from Market.
It varies, when I make a Skype video call it opens full screen, sometimes during the call the screen goes into a smaller screen overlayed on top of the full screen.
I can only guess its a Skype software issue.
Its bugging me so I may have to do a hard reset to see if it sorts it out as I can't get any answers from Skype

I noticed that if I change to the rear camera the video then goes full screen..

I did a hard reset, no difference. Still a small video screen.

Finally solved it. If I install an old version first and then update it with the market I get full screen video

Skype voice and video quality
I hope to pick a WIFI tab version soon. Just wondering how is the skype quality especially the speaker voice quality especially the WIFI version. I have a Nexus and the Skype speaker voice quality is terrible.
Thx in advance

I use my tab for skype fairly often. It is definitely louder than my GS2, but the speakers are still mediocre. I can't compare to a Nexus but I wouldn't go in with high expectations. Audio quality over bluetooth is better, so you can always hook it up to a decent bluetooth speaker if it's a concern.

I'm interested in knowing this too. I tried this workaround and it doesn't seem to have worked for me. However, it was a bit hit and miss in terms of finding an "old" version of skype.
My video calls go as follows:
1- Fullscreen on connection for about 5-10 seconds
2- Image shrinks to half size leaving a "border" which flickers with whatever was on-screen when the picture chaged - annoying
3- Today after about 10 minutes the border went away. This is the first time it has gone. The image remains a small window, now with a black border.
So, if anyone has any bright ideas...
Google skype version 2.1.0.46 and install. Run it and try video. Should be full screen. Then goto market and update Skype.

Most phones blow out the sound when recording stuff that's super loud, but apparently not the HTC One. Sounds flippin' fantastic. Here's some nightclub videos I took last night:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8QdbQe--3k
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jVW9B_tfri4
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4Ac02Qb_qU
The videos quality itself is also fairly commendable considering the poor lighting there.
Very good indeed. I'll give it a shot myself...
I'm really pleased with the audio. I was in Disney world, recorded tons of videos of the rides and while really loud, sound is great and not distorted at all.

Don't forget only people who got their Ones early got the awesome HDR dual membrane microphone that makes this possible. Due to a court ruling HTC must begin shipping phones with a different microphone once they use up their existing stock of phones with the old microphone.

The Serial number will show when the phone was manufactured. So far, there has been no news of HTC running out of their stock yet, so we can safely assume anything made up til Mid-May will have the HDR mic.

Kind of right I think..I believe they are allowed to use the rest of the stock the bought from ST Microelectronics..Even if they weren't in new phones yet..
Sorry, yes I think that is more accurate.
Either way we don't know how good the replacement part will be. Might be very good, but hard to imagine being as good as the originally spec'ed part .. .

What a difference 1.5 years of phone technology makes...
Does anyone know if apps than the video camera can use the HDR audio capabilities? I tried to record our band rehearsing last Friday and it was just as distorted as on any other phone.
We play really loud, probably louder than the music in that club (we use earplugs) so maybe it was simply more than the HDR microphone could handle.
However, I used a 3rd party audio app (J4T), and now I'm wondering if it would have been better if I had shot a video using the stock camera instead.

I believe the mic is rated to record up to 140db with no distortion.

Thanks! Well, maybe we were just over 140db, I don't know -- although that is pretty loud. I'll experiment with different audio apps and the video camera next rehearsal.
